Des Tours de Wordsworth: The Prelude as the Translation of Wordsworth's Proper Name and Its Sur-vival

Chang, Yu Ping Unknown Date (has links)
首先,寫作《序曲》是華茲華斯的譯者天職 (the task of the translator)。 再者,華茲華斯的詩人身份仰賴華茲華斯之名的翻譯 (the translation of Wordsworth's proper name)。 / The Prelude has long been regarded as William Wordsworth's autobiographical poem in which he celebrates an autonomous and consistent self nourished from the interaction between his mind and Nature. However, the textual plurality and a sense of incompleteness of The Prelude contradicts the unique and unitary self-identity proposed by Wordsworth in this poem. On the basis of Derrida's theory of translation, this thesis intends to investigate the establishment of Wordsworth's identity as a poet in The Prelude in three aspects. First, the writing and completion of The Prelude is Wordsworth's task of the translator, the necessary and impossible task in search of an identity as a poet. Second, the constitution of Wordsworth's identity as a poet depends on the translation of Wordsworth's proper name which calls for and against translation at the same time. The translatability and untranslatability of Wordsworth's proper name leads to the textual plurality and incompleteness of The Prelude as the result of Wordsworth's endless translation of his name. Last but not least, The Prelude is not so much Wordsworth's autobiographical poem as Wordsworth's otobiography which calls for the ear of the other to constitute his self-identity by hearing and signing with him. This thesis endeavors to prove that Wordsworth, in the position of an indebted translator committed to an insolvent debt and non-dischargeable duty by a translation contract with Nature and Coleridge, is obliged to translate his proper name in search of the sur-vival of his name as a poet and his poetry by writing The Prelude as his otobiography which is always open to and demands the ear of the other to recognize and affirm Wordsworth's name as a great poet.

O estilo musical em Les guitares bien tempérées OP.199 de Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco / The Musical Style in Les Guitares Bien Tempérées Op. 199, by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco

Abdalla, Thiago Vasconcelos 28 September 2011 (has links)
The aim of this work is to understand the compositional techniques employed by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) in his Op. 199, Les Guitares bien Tempérés. This cycle of 24 Preludes and Fugues for two guitars is known as the largest original work for guitar duo and, coming from a non-guitarist composer, elucidates various aspects of his background and the performance of his works. Some of the most important questions addressed include: Who is Castelnuovo-Tedesco? What were the highlights of his musical training? Why is this work so important to the guitar duo ensemble? What kind of bibliographic references are available on this work? And, most importantly, how can the style of this work be described? This work in based on theoretical-methodological references (STEBLIN, 1982; LARUE, 1992; OTERO, 1999; among others), it begins with a discussion of the composer\'s approach to the traditional definitions of Prelude and Fugue. The results of this research highlight the musical guidelines that permeate the work both as a whole (macrostructure) and in parts (middle and microstructure), crossing contributing elements (sound, harmony, melody and rhythm), and other details (keys, textures, dynamics, harmonies, tempos, expressions and affections/humor). Thus, this research has led to the understanding of multiple compositional processes contained in the work.

Pianoimprovisation enligt Czerny och Liszt : 1800-talets preludierings- och pianoimprovisationspraxis i analys och exempel / Piano Improvisation according to Czerny and Liszt : Nineteenth Century Preluding and Piano Improvisation Practice: Analysis and Examples

Edin, Martin January 2008 (has links)

This essay in musicology is combined with a CD-recording of piano improvisations. Its purpose is, on the one hand, to examine some of the ideas permeating piano improvisation during the first part of the nineteenth century, and, on the other, to find ways to apply these nineteenth century ideas of improvising to modern piano playing. The artistic part of the work is as important as the theoretical, and the two strands are supporting and reinforcing each other.

The first section of the text focuses on preluding – that is, a genre of improvisation. The second section investigates some aspects of the improvising of Franz Liszt – that is, different types of improvisation as practised by an important nineteenth century musician. The instructional music literature written by Carl Czerny is the basic source of reference in both portions.

The text and the recordings of my piano improvisations aim to show that monothematic strategies are simple and useful tools for improvising, regardless of tonal language used.

Half of the recordings consist of improvisations of separate pieces in a contemporary musical language. Rebecca Clarke: A Viola Duo Transcription of the Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale

Stevens, Daniel Brent 08 1900 (has links)
Throughout centuries of great classical music, many viola compositions have been crafted from a wealth of literature for instruments of similar range. Clarinet, violin, and cello concerti and ensemble literature often adapt into challenging literature for the viola. In November 2009, Oxford Music Publishing gave me permission to transcribe and perform the Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale by Rebecca Clarke in New York's famed Carnegie Hall - Weill Recital Hall. This dissertation explains the process by which I transcribed the Prelude, Allegro, and Pastorale from an original Bb-clarinet/viola duo, to a new arrangement for two violas (approved by Oxford Music Press arrangement license #7007940), and discusses challenges faced throughout the transcription process.

Preludes, Opp, 15, 35, and 74 of Alexander Scriabin

Buckingham, Wilna Faye 01 1900 (has links)
The five Preludes, Op. 15 were composed in the year 1897 while Scriabin was occupied in concert tours with his friend and publisher, Beliaef. This year brought no less than forty-seven short preludes written at various times and collected in five sets: Opp. 11, 13, 15, 16, and 17. These preludes, though clever and original in melody, show the great influence of Chopin on Scriabin.
