The purpose of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the lived experiences of adolescents with disabilities who identify as a sexual or gender minority within four ecological domains of self, school, family, and community and of how those experiences shape identity, sense of self, and beliefs about the future. Using in-depth semi-structured interviews, this research was conducted with an intersectionality framework that examined how the intersection of markers of difference inform individual reality and lived experiences for young adults with disabilities who identify as a sexual or gender minority. The sample included eight adolescents in high school across the state of Oregon who had a 504 plan or an Individualized Education Program and identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or queer. A multiple-phase data analysis led to in-depth descriptions of each individual's experiences as well as consistent cross-case themes. Key themes in the individual context included: identity development, positive beliefs about identity, navigation of identity labels, strategies for facing discrimination, and relationships. Experiences in the home context that shaped identity focused on the key areas of support, rejection, and religion. Concerning the school social context, the themes that emerged were the overlap of queerness and disability in the schools, Gay Straight Alliances and extracurricular clubs, and desired staff characteristics for an adult ally in school. No consistent themes were identified in the community domain. These findings contributed to the participants' descriptions of their beliefs about the future, focusing on independent living, postsecondary education, and employment. Analysis extends the limited research available for this subgroup, shedding a light on the importance of inclusive research. In addition, findings support implications for changes in how we work with students with disabilities who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, questioning, queer, transgender, or intersex as well as how we train and support our teachers to work with all students and engage in anti-discriminatory practices.

My main theoretical framework is film, representation, gender, feminist and queer theories (Butler, 1990, 1993; Clover, 1989; Dika, 1985, Halberstam, 1995; Hall 1973, 1997; Mulvey, 1975, 1981; 2006; Rockoff, 2006; Weedon, 1995). My hypothesis is that the figure of the final girl, in the two films selected for analysis, is not progressive as suggested by the author Carol Clover in her work Men, Women and Chainsaws (1989). On the contrary, the two female characters are represented, in the narrative, as subjugated by the patriarchal system that has been conventionalized in the slasher subgenre. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, baseada na netnografia ou etnografia online, com observação das interações em salas de bate-papo e análise de 172 perfis de usuários dos sites de relacionamentos. Com a análise de narrativas em diálogo com os estudos queer e suas principais influências, os objetivos são o de discutir os sistemas que norteiam as concepções sexuais no Brasil, em especial, as concepções de gênero e suas influências sobre a sexualidade; analisar o impacto da internet e dos sites de relacionamentos na constituição subjetiva desses homens; investigar as modalidades de relações afetivossexuais demandadas, entre elas a amizade, as relações afetivas, sérias e duradouras, e as relações sexuais sem vínculo afetivo; debater a respeito das práticas sexuais narradas nos sites, que descentralizam a ligação pênis-vagina e em especial, as práticas anais que restituem ao cu o status de zona erógena e que possibilita pensar na possibilidade do ânus se constituir enquanto uma política que questiona a construção social do corpo, um modo de enfrentar as concepções lineares de sexo/gênero. Através dessas discussões, é realizada uma análise das subversões e reiterações que esses homens fazem das normas sociais que constroem os sexos, os gêneros e instituem discursos moralizantes e patológicos sobre as práticas sexuais.

Assim, fez-se um levantamento bibliográfico sobre as pesquisas internacionais e nacionais que envolveriam e relacionariam o estudo da homossexualidade masculina com o mundo do trabalho e uma análise das diferenças existentes entre a abordagem tradicional que envolve os estudos de gênero para uma análise pós-estruturalista da sexualidade. Em relação aos aspectos metodológicos, o tipo de pesquisa é qualitativa, utilizando-se de um roteiro de entrevista semi-estruturado para coleta de dados. Foram entrevistados dez bancários, trabalhadores de dois bancos públicos federais e de um banco privado com capital inteiramente nacional. Para a análise de dados utilizou-se a análise de discurso desenvolvida por Michel Foucault. Conclui-se que os entrevistados são alvos de discriminação direta e indireta em razão de sua sexualidade. A discriminação direta manifesta-se na deficiência dos normativos dos bancos públicos estudados em garantir e esclarecer os reais direitos dos trabalhadores, bem como na completa falta de regras que estabeleçam direitos no banco privado analisado. Contudo, o que mais causa incômodo aos entrevistados são as expressões de discriminação indireta por meio de: (a) piadas que falam pejorativamente de forma generalizada sobre homossexuais, (b) isolamento para que não tenham contato com clientes e até mesmo com demais funcionários, (c) condições de trabalho inferiores as ofertadas para os demais empregados, (d) exclusão de participação nos grupos informais e atividades destes grupos ocorridas fora da empresa, (e) brincadeiras, fofocas e ironias sobre as formas de andarem, falarem e gesticularem quando não estão presentes no recinto, (f) xingamento relacionado a evidenciação de uma suposta feminilidade pertencente a homossexuais (mocinha, veadinho), (g) dificuldades de crescimento na carreira e (h) dificuldade de contratação de homossexuais, principalmente afeminados, por gerentes de bancos privados. This thesis seeks to trace the representations of male homosexuality in Taiwanese society since the 1970s, with a specific focus on the legacies and representations of Pai Hsien-yung’s novel Niezi (Crystal Boys, published in 1983), widely regarded as the first full-length novel themed on homosexuality in Taiwan’s literary history. Set in 1970s Taiwan during the Martial Law period, the novel’s portrayal of the underground homosexual community and male prostitution culture based in Taipei’s New Park (now 228 Park) did not capture critical attention or gain commercial success when published, owing to the then conservative social atmosphere. Nonetheless, after the lifting of Martial Law, as Taiwan became a democratised nation with mature elective democracy and participation in globalised cultural circuits, Niezi became canonised and politicised as the iconic text for a sequence of social activism regarding homosexual human rights in academia and related cultural activities in the 1990s and 2000s. Even today, Niezi is still considered the most debatable representative homosexual literary text in Taiwan’s homosexual community. While Niezi’s iconic status has stood the test of time over the past three decades, the changing interpretations of the text offer a great resource through which to examine the representations of male homosexuality in Taiwan during this period. Taiwanese society transformed from an authoritarian regime in the 1970s and 1980s, to quasi-democracy in the early 1990s, then full elective democracy in the mid-1990s, and now Taiwan has fully joined the globalised circuits of the capitalist economy, with free markets, cross-cultural communication and rapid flows of information. This social transformation brought about changing interpretations of Niezi, in which male homosexuality was no longer a social taboo, and activist cultural critics started to demand equal rights for homosexuals inspired by Euro-American theoretical discourse and social reform. The social transformation also saw two visual adaptations of the novel through the forms of film and television, which I shall examine in this thesis. I will also demonstrate not just how male homosexuality has been represented in different social contexts, but also what has contributed to the endurance of Niezi’s legacies in the past three decades. In addition, while there was a great amount of homosexual literature produced after the lifting of Martial Law owing to social liberalisation, the thesis will also consider Niezi’s continuing iconic status.

Por outro lado, construo o percurso teórico do modelo social da deficiência como uma vertente oposta ao modelo biomédico hegemônico, inserindo as contribuições da epistemologia feminista e, posteriormente, da teoria queer e a noção de identidades performáticas e compulsórias. Feito isso, invisto nas proximidades dos dois campos, buscando uma relação que me permita pensar uma abordagem antropológica da criança deficiente, no sentido de construir um projeto futuro. / This dissertation is the result of a theoretical investment in Anthropology of Childhood and Children and in disability studies that emerged in the United States and the United Kingdom between the 1960s and 1970s. I try to reflect on several conceptions of childhood that are possible from ethnographic works and to think about the discourses of power inherent to the relationships between adults and children, on the one hand. On the other hand, I construct the theoretical course of the social model of disability as an opposing strand to the hegemonic biomedical model, inserting the contributions of feminist epistemology and, later, queer theory and the notion of performative and compulsory identities. Having done this, I invest in the proximity of the two fields, seeking a relation that allows me to think of an anthropological approach of the disabled child, in the sense of building a future project.

Translúcidas de Teatro. Procuramos no método da cartografia caminhos para acompanhar as linhas de subjetivação que atravessavam xs participantes e que indicavam problematizações sobre temas suscitados. Estes temas se transversalizaram e encontraram no termo “vivências trans” diferentes sentidos que foram explorados teoricamente: expressões de travestilidades e transexualidades; formas mais potentes de abordar tais expressões, como as perspectivas queer; experimentações artísticas através da prática teatral, e experiências coletivas que permitiram o exercício do teatro e da pesquisa, colocando o próprio sentido de experiência em questão. Esta pesquisa acompanhou a montagem de uma peça teatral realizada junto com xs participantes do coletivo e elaborada como um dispositivo de luta política e emancipatória, que se inscreve no cenário de violências contra expressões de gêneros dissidentes. Este dispositivo interessou-se por das condições de “ver” e “falar” que estavam entre os desejos das pessoas envoltas ao projeto que confluíram na necessidade ética de garantir às pessoas trans e travestis, o direito fundamental à existência. / The purpose of this research was to accompany the ElityTrans Collective, a group formed by transvestites and transsexuals from Londrina (PR), in the processes of theatrical experimentation lived through workshops realized with participants of the collective and researcher. We found in the method of cartography ways to follow the lines of subjectivation that crossed participants and indicated problematizations on issues raised. These themes were transversalized and found in the term "trans experiences" different meanings that were explored theoretically: expressions of travestilities and transsexualities; more potent ways of addressing such expressions, such as queer perspectives; artistic experiments through theatrical practice, and collective experiences that allowed the exercise of theater and research, putting the very meaning of experience in question. This research followed the construction of a theatrical play performed together with participants from the collective and elaborated as a device of political and emancipatory struggle, which is part of the scenario of violence against expressions of dissenting genres. This device was interested in the conditions of "seeing" and "talking" that were among the wishes of the people involved in the project that came together in the ethical need to guarantee trans people and transvestites the fundamental right to existence.
