Die Motivik und Struktur der Quest in Doris D??rries Geschichte und Film ParadiesAddala, Michael January 2006 (has links)
In the thesis at hand I will analyze to what extent Doris D??rrie constructed her story and film Paradies according to the structure of the quest. First of all, some background information will be provided concerning D??rrie's career. After that, a short summary of the important contributions that have been made in the area of the hero's journey and D??rrie's Paradies will be given. Following a depiction of the quest's mythological roots, the Jungian concept of the collective unconscious and its archetypes will be introduced. After that, Joseph Campbell's Monomyth will be explained step by step, for the structural analysis of the action will follow that pattern. The theoretical part will close with a description of the archetypal and mythological method that will be applied to the primary texts. In the practical analysis the theoretical foundation will be utilized to prove that D??rrie's texts are arranged according to the Monomyth. With the help of quotations from the primary works, it will be shown that the plot-device of the quest underlies the relevant story and its adaptation to the screen.

Furthermore, Jung's findings concerning the archetypes will be consulted to find out whether the characters the quester meets correspond to the archetypal roles that the classic seeker encounters. That is why the title includes the word Motivik. Besides that, a connection will be made between the seemingly inappropriate title Paradies and the quest-structure. First of all, the probable reason for D??rrie's choice concerning the title will be ascertained. Highly esteemed philosophers and authors have equated the fall of man with the birth of reason and curiosity. Eve's sin can be interpreted as the start of a quest. The aim of the latter is to return to the Garden of Eden. Furthermore, it will be shown that the hero meets the key archetypes of the shadow, anima and mother, which leads to the finding that the hero's external voyage is above all an internal one. Jakob or Viktor, respectively, is desperately searching for psychological equilibrium ? the archetypal self represented by Lotte.

The major outcome of this thesis will be that both versions of Paradies can be described as modern anti-quests. The reason for that lies in D??rrie's first following the classic pattern only to leave it prematurely in order to manoeuvre her characters into nemesis. Not only the male quest, which is analyzed in detail, but also the two searches of Lotte and Angelika end tragically. The only exception is Lotte's journey in the prose version, which D??rrie only provides incompletely.

Characterization and Applications for A Polymerized DiaCEST Contrast AgentBontrager, Jordan G. January 2015 (has links)
MRI can benefit from an increase in the sensitivity of contrast agents. The CEST MRI technique in particular suffers from very poor sensitivity when using diamagnetic contrast agents. Polymerized CEST MRI contrast agents could increase the sensitivity per macromolecule over monomer contrast agents. The increase in sensitivity is related to the increase in number of contrast agents per polymer. A contrast agent with increased sensitivity can be used to image on the molecular level in vivo, where the concentration of targets is very low. A polymerized diaCEST contrast agent was synthesized by coupling a salicylic acid analogue to a poly (acrylic acid) backbone. The CEST effect of the coupled analogue was compared to its uncoupled form for different concentrations and pH values. A RL-QUEST method was used to calculate the exchange rate of the analogue for different pH values before and after coupling. The polymerized diaCEST agent was attempted to be loaded into DOPC and bis-SorbPC liposomes, and was also attempted to be targeted to folate receptors in a KB cell culture. These studies establish the foundation for translation of polymerized diaCEST contrast agents to additional in vitro and in vivo investigations.

Žmogiškoji paieška Saul Bellow romanuose "Hercogas" ir "Hendersonas Lietaus Karalius" / Human quest in Saul Bellow's novels "Herzog" and "Henderson The Rain King"Blaškevičienė, Olga 27 May 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to prove that Saul Bellow‘s characters are questing heroes and to show how human quest is reflected in Bellow‘s novels „Herzog“ and „Henderson the Rain King“. Different forms of human quest in literature have been investigated referring to Ihab Hassan‘s „Selves at Risk. Patterns of Quest in Contemporary American Letters“. The method of textual analysis has been chosen for the study. The research demonstrated that both Herzog and Henderson are questing heroes searching for identity, social assertion, communication, love, understanding, self-worth and the meaning of life. The main heroes undergo a series of difficulties, loss and recovery, and finally they create identity and learn to be humanto tolerate and accept human behaviour, to live here and now.

The quest of happiness in Julien Green’s novelsHammoud, Fida 03 July 2013 (has links)
Epicurus, Aristotle, Pascal, Nietzsche, Dalaï Lama, and many others, have interpreted the notion of happiness, each one in his own way, which explains the existence of a multitude of definitions. For some, happiness is the result of satisfying physical desires, for others, it’s the result of harmony between man and the world. Modern thinkers accuse technical progress of harming human happiness. In this context, what does the term “happiness” then mean? And how can we be happy? Julien Green, a twentieth century novelist, hasn’t given a direct answer to these queries. His novels only deal with suffering. Solitude, existential spleen, devastating passion, splitting of the ego, everything conspires to color all his novels in black. Loss of identity exacerbates the confusion. Neither dreams for dreamers nor memories of childhood relieve the unfortunate who operate in this world which is like a great prison. Happiness is the object of a quest which begins with the search of purity embodied in children who are the symbol of a lost paradise in which it is impossible to return. Although death is scary, it seems to be a way out of grief. Dying as a believer insures happiness in another world. The quest of happiness becomes spiritual. Green suggests that faith can certainly bring happiness. Writing not only brings happiness, but also allows the characters to say the unsayable and relieve the dismantled ego. The quest of happiness shows that happiness is possible, and that it can overcome the anxiety of existence.

La quête du bonheur spirituel dans l'oeuvre de Michel Tournier / The quest of the spiritual happiness in works of Michel TournierLiao, Min 01 June 2015 (has links)
Michel Tournier is one of the great figures of contemporary french novel. His work is remarkable both for its philosophical dimension and its mythic dimension. We find that the philosophical and mythic themes as the ogre, the double, the inversion are thoroughly analyzed in France. So our research will develop a philosophy of happiness about the life and the human existence, by exploring the recurring themes as the journey, the solitude, the happiness, etc. In most novels of Tournier, the image of the departure is the root of thoughts and the journey seems like the logic and dynamic result of the history and the theme. And in this journey the search of happiness seems essential. Thus, our research will be devoted to a reading of the texts by using the thematic approachs of Gaston Bachelard, an analysis of the motive of the journey and the evolution of the minds of characters in the initiatory journey. In the First Part, we try to analyze three levels of initiation : through the travelling, the images, the writing. The spiritual dimension of writing can reveal the meaning of true happiness, based on the respect for nature, the eternity and the serenity, which is similar to the concept of happiness in eastern philosophy. And especially, it expresses the consciousness of the writer on the beauty of nature and life. In the Second Part, we will study how the protagonists react, overcome the solitary fate of man and gain the happiness. The quest of the characters appears at the beginning to a search for the physical happiness ; in the end it leads to a reconstruction of the world and a spiritual quest. The happiness is finally fulfilled in a quest for the sacredness, by the resacralization of the world and the celestial phenomena. In the Third Part, we will explore the fantasies and the happiness of the writer through the haunting aspect of writing. The narcissism of the writer is first revealed in the recovery of the dream of his characters, the repetition of the same themes and expressions in different novels and essays. Then his fantasies resident in praise of childlike innocence. The writer's narcissism is still apparent in the association between the creative vocation and the divinity.

The Relationship between the Hunter and the Hunted: Moby Dick, The Old Man and the Sea, and The BearEgner, Ruth Ann 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to point out explicitly the rather startling fact that each of these three writers in a novel which is representative of his own art and world view had developed the hunt-quest theme in a pattern and manner which are almost identical.
