No. of bitstreams: 0 / O uso acentuado de fármacos e de produtos de higiene e cuidados pessoais por grande parcela da população e a conseqüente e contínua entrada dos mesmos no ambiente gera uma necessidade cada vez maior de se investigar a presença, o comportamento e os efeitos causados à biota aquática, bem como novas formas de tratamento para efluentes contendo tais substâncias. O cloridrato de fluoxetina é um princípio ativo utilizado em tratamentos de distúrbios depressivos e de ansiedade. Enquanto o surfactante dodecilsulfato de sódio está presente em diversos produtos de limpeza e de cuidados pessoais. O presente estudo teve como enfoque avaliar a toxicidade aguda do cloridrato de fluoxetina, dodecil sulfato de sódio bem como a mistura de ambos frente aos organismos aquáticos Hyalella azteca, Daphnia similis e Vibrio ficheri. A redução da toxicidade do cloridrato de fluoxetina e da mistura após tratamento com radiação ionizante, proveniente de acelerador industrial de elétrons, também foi objeto de estudo. Para Daphnia similis os valores médios de CE5048h encontrados para o fármaco, o surfactante e a mistura não irradiados foram de 14,4 %, 9,62% e 13,8%, respectivamente. Após irradiação das substâncias, a dose de 5 kGy se mostrou a mais efetiva, resultando em valores médios de CE5048h de 84,60% e >90 %, para o fármaco e para a mistura respectivamente. Para Hyalella azteca foram realizados ensaios de toxicidade aguda para coluna d\'água com duração de 96 horas, cujas médias dos valores de CE5096h encontradas para o fármaco, o surfactante e a mistura não irradiados foram de 5,63 %, 19,29 %, 6,27 %, respectivamente. Para o fármaco e mistura irradiados com a dose de 5 kGy, foram de 69,57% e 77,7 %, respectivamente. Para Vibrio ficheri os ensaios de toxicidade aguda para o fármaco não tratado e para o fármaco irradiado com 5 kGy geraram valores de CE5015min de 6,9 % e 32,88 %, respectivamente. Techniques of beta- and gamma-ray scintillation spectroscopy have been applied to a study of the decay radiations from 92.6-min La142. Several new gamma-ray transitions have been discovered and a gamma-gamma coincidence matrix has been established. Nine beta groups have been identified and evidence is presented substantiating the assignment of a first-forbidden unique character to the ground-state beta transition. Angular correlation studies have been performed on some of the gamma cascades. A decay-scheme based on the experimental results is discussed and some spin assignments are made. Incidence des leucémies de l'enfant en fonction de la proximité et des caractéristiques générales de diverses sources d'expositions environnementales / Incidence of childhood leukemia in relation to proximity and general characteristics of different environmental exposure sources

Le rôle de l'environnement dans l'étiologie des leucémies aigües de l’enfant (LA) fait aujourd'hui l'objet de recherches intenses. Dans ce contexte, le présent travail a pour objectif d’étudier la relation entre l’incidence de LA et la proximité des centrales nucléaires de production d’électricité (CNPE) et des lignes à haute tension (LHT). Avant cette analyse fine, un premier travail a consisté à étudier les variations départementales de l'incidence de LA.Les cas inclus dans ces études sont toutes les LA du Registre National des Hémopathies malignes de l’Enfant sur la période étudiée : 1990-2004 pour l’étude de l’incidence départementale et 2002-2007 pour les études de l’association avec les facteurs d’exposition environnementale. Dans l’approche cas-témoins principalement utilisée pour ces dernières, les 30 000 sujets témoins constitue un échantillon représentatif de la population pédiatrique française sur la période d’’intérêt. D’autre part, la géolocalisation des adresses des sujets et des sources d'exposition permet de définir des critères de proximité en relation avec la probabilité et/ou l'intensité d'exposition aux facteurs d'intérêt. • L’étude des LA par département n’a pas mis en évidence de tendance ni de structure spatiale dans l’incidence à ce niveau géographique : que ce soit globalement, par classe d’âge, par sexe ou par sous-type de leucémie. • Sur la période 2002-2007 contrairement aux périodes précédentes, un quasi-doublement de l’incidence des LA à moins de 5 km des CNPE a été mis en évidence, avec une approche cas-témoin comme avec l’étude d’incidence. Ce résultat n’était pas spécifique d’une CNPE ou d’un type de CNPE et non lié à la cartographie des émissions aériennes de radioactivité par les CNPE. • L’association trouvée entre l’incidence de LA et la proximité aux LHT de plus de 225 kV (<50 m) semble restreinte aux enfants de moins de 5 ans ou n’habitant en milieu urbain ; aucune association n’a été trouvée avec la proximité aux LHT de moins de 150 kV. / The role of the environment in the etiology of childhood acute leukemia (AL) is currently investigated. In this context, the aim of the present work is to study the association between the incidence of AL and the proximity no nuclear power plants (NPP) and to high voltage overhead power lines (HV OLs). At first, the geographical variations of AL have been studied at the Département level.The cases included in the studies are all cases of AL of the French National Registry of Childhood Haemopatopoietic Malignancies on the studied periods: 1990-2004 for the study of incidence on Départements and 2002-2007 for the studies of association between incidence of AL and environmental exposure factors. Concerning those latter studies, a case-control approach has been used. The control sample, representative of the French pediatric population, contains 30,000 subjects and has been drawn by the INSEE. The precise localization of addresses of subjects and of exposure sources in relation with the type of sources is essential to build indicators of exposure reflecting the probability and intensity of exposure. • The study of AL by Département has highlighted neither trend nor spatial structure in the incidence at this geographical level globally as well as by age, gender and subtype of leukemia.• On 2002-2007, on the contrary of on previous periods, the incidence of AL at less than 5 km from a NPP was nearly twice higher than expected, with the case-control study as well as with the incidence approach. This result was not specific to any age group, NPP, a type of NPP and was not associated with the geographic zoning of gaseous discharges of NPPs. • The study of the proximity to HV OLs highlighted an association between the incidence of AL and the close proximity (< 50 m) of lines of more than 225 kV, association which was restricted to children of less than 5 y.o. or living in non-urban areas; but not with the proximity to lines of less than 150 kV.

High Frequency Ultrasonic Device development for Non-Destructive Post-Irradiation Examination of the RHF Fuel Element / Développement d'un dispositif ultrasonore hautes fréquences pour la caractérisation post-irradiation de l'élément combustible du RHF

Les prochaines plaques combustibles faiblement enrichies des réacteurs HPRR devront résister à de hautes radiations et dévoileront probablement un gonflement. Ce dernier modifie la structure et influence la distance inter-plaque nominale. La mesure de cette distance à l'ordre micrométrique constitue l'objectif du projet PERSEUS via le développement d'un dispositif ultrasonore non-destructif. Réduit à 1 mm pour s'insérer dans l'interstice inter-plaque de 1.8 mm du Réacteur à Haut Flux (RHF), le dispositif comprend deux transducteurs ultrasonores reliés à un système électronique. Il permet les mesures de temps de vol et de vitesse ultrasonore. La faisabilité de mesure précédemment prouvée, des optimisations de la chaîne de mesure et du traitement du signal ont été intégrées, induisant une nouvelle génération de dispositif. Un banc motorisé a été développé et a permis des mesures de reproductibilité précises à 500 nm. La reproductibilité de résistance aux radiations, expérimentée à l'Institut Arc-Nucléart, a démontré la stabilité des dispositifs sous 3500 kGray. De plus, une expérience de mesure de distance inter-plaque sur l'élément combustible du RHF a permis les mesures de position verticale, de distance inter-plaque et de température avec 1 µm de précision d'épaisseur du canal d'eau. Une étude de faisabilité de focalisation des ondes est prévue pour analyser les plaques en profondeur. / The future HPRR LEU fuel plates will have to withstand aggressive irradiations leading to a swelling phenomenon. This latter induces structure modifications and impacts the initial inter-plate distance. This distance is investigated, under the access and microscopic resolution constraints, within the PERSEUS Project aiming the development of a non-destructive ultrasonic device. With a thickness of 1 mm to be inserted into the 1.8 mm water channel width of the High flux Reactor (RHF), the device relies upon two ultrasonic transducers connected to an electronic system. It allows time of flight and ultrasonic velocity estimations. The feasibility being already proved, optimizations on components of the measurement chain and signal processing have led to a new device. A developed motorized bench has allowed reproducibility measurements with a 500 nm resolution. Then, a reproducibility devices' radiation resistance experiment, carried out in the Arc-nucleart Institute, demonstrated their parameters stability under 3500 kGray. Experiments were also realized on the RHF fuel element where vertical position, distance and temperature were evaluated, with a 1 µm precision on channel gap thickness. Future works will explore waves ability to be focused in the depth of the plates.

Modélisation de la réponse moléculaire et cellulaire aux radiations ionisantes : impact du transit cyto-nucléaire de la protéine d'ATM / Modeling of the molecular and cellular response to ionizing radiations : impact of the nucleo-shuttling of the ATM protein

Depuis plus d'un siècle que les rayons X ont été découverts, les effets biologiques des radiations ionisantes ne sont pas encore entièrement expliqués. Pourtant, une description précise et la modélisation mathématique des événements physico-chimiques, moléculaires et cellulaires contribueraient significativement à l'effet des risques liés à une irradiation. Le groupe de Radiobiologie de l'UMR1052 Inserm (Lyon) a accumulé un nombre considérable de données sur la radiosensibilité individuelle et la réparation des dommages radioinduits de l'ADN qui nous permettent aujourd'hui de valider des modèles nouveaux qui sont souvent en contradiction avec les paradigmes actuels. En particulier, alors que les cassures double-brin de l'ADN semblent être les dommages clés de la létalité cellulaire, aucun protocole ni biomarqueur n'est considéré comme prédictif de la radiosensibilité. Le but de la thèse a donc été de déterminer les paramètres précis qui peuvent prédire la réponse aux radiations. Un grand nombre de protéines se relocalisent sous forme de foci nucléaire autour des sites de CDB. Dans une première étape, nous avons pu proposer une formule générale qui lie induction, reconnaissance et réparation des CDB, valable pour toutes les protéines relocalisantes après irradiation. Cette formule a été appelée « Formule de Bodgi ». La validité de cette formule a pu être vérifiée sur différents biomarqueurs et sur différents types de cellules de patients montrant des radiosensibilités différentes. Dans une deuxième étape, nous avons pu modéliser le processus de transit cytonucléaire de la protéine ATM. Nous avons pu alors apporter une interprétation nouvelle et cohérente des paramètres α et β du modèle linéaire-quadratique qui décrit la relation entre la dose de radiation et la survie cellulaire. Notre théorie s'est avérée également utile pour expliquer certaines autres énigmes de la radiobiologie, notamment le phénomène d'hypersensibilité aux faibles doses / More than a century after the discovery of X-rays, the biological effects of ionizing radiation are still not entirely explained. Nevertheless, a relevant description and a mathematical model of the physico-chemical, molecular and cellular events would significantly contribute to the evaluation of the related risks. The Radiobiology Group of the UMR1052 Inserm Unit (Lyon) has collected a considerable number of data concerning individual radiosensitivity and DNA damage repair, which allows us today to validate actual modeling approaches that are often contradicting actual paradigms. Particularly, while the DNA double-strand breaks (DSB) appear to be the key-damages of cell lethality, there is still no experimental protocol or biomarker that is considered to be predictive for radiosensitivity. The purpose of this thesis was to determine the precise parameters that can predict the response to radiation. An important number of proteins relocalize as nuclear foci in the DSB sites. As a first step, we proposed a general formula that links the DSB induction, recognition and repair, valid for all the relocalized proteins after irradiation. We called this formula the ‘’Bodgi’s formula’’. The validity of this model was verified with different biomarkers, but also on different cell types from patients showing different radiosensitivity. In a second step, we proposed a model for the whole process of the nucleo-shuttling of the ATM protein that occurs after irradiation. We provided a novel and coherent interpretation of the α and β parameters of the linear-quadratic model that describes the relation between radiation dose and cell survival. Our theory was also shown to be useful in explaining some other enigmas of radiobiology, including the hypersensitivity to lowdose phenomena

Total ionizing dose monitoring for mixed field environments / Mesure de dose ionisante en champs de rayonnement mixte

La mesure de la dose ionisante est aujourd'hui une tâche cruciale pour une large gamme d'applications fonctionnant dans des environnements de rayonnement sévères. Dans le contexte de l'amélioration de la luminosité du grand collisionneur de hadrons (LHC), la mesure des niveaux de rayonnement le long du complexe d'accélérateurs du CERN va devenir encore plus difficile. A cet effet, une connaissance plus détaillée du champ de rayonnement dans le tunnel de l'accélérateur et ses zones adjacentes devient nécessaire pour définir les exigences d'installation, de déplacement ou de blindage de l'électronique sensible au rayonnement. Dans l’objectif d’améliorer la mesure de la dose absorbée par les systèmes exposés au champ de rayonnement mixte généré par l’accélérateur, des investigations sur des nouveaux dosimètres ont été menées.Dans le cadre de cette recherche, deux dispositifs ont été étudiés et caractérisés pour être utilisés comme dosimètres et éventuellement pour compléter l'utilisation du dosimètre au silicium actuellement utilisé au CERN, à savoir le RADFET (RADiation-sensitive Field Effect Transistor) : un NMOS commercial et un ASIC (Application-specific Integrated Circuit) nommé FGDOS. Les dispositifs ont été sélectionnés selon deux approches opposées : d'une part, la réduction des coûts permettrait d'augmenter la densité des capteurs déployés. En conséquence directe, une carte des doses plus détaillée serait obtenue pour les grands systèmes distribués comme le LHC. D'autre part, la dosimétrie peut être améliorée en déployant des détecteurs plus sensibles, ce qui permettrait de mesurer la dose lorsque les niveaux sont trop faibles pour le RADFET. De plus, des capteurs à plus haute résolution permettraient de caractériser le champ de rayonnement dans un temps plus court, c'est-à-dire avec une luminosité intégrée plus faible.La première approche a été réalisée en recherchant des solutions alternatives basées sur des dispositifs COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf), qui réduiraient considérablement les coûts et garantiraient une disponibilité illimitée sur le marché. À cette fin, des recherches ont été menées sur un transistor NMOS discret commercial, qui s'est révélé très sensible au rayonnement.La nécessité d'améliorer la résolution de la mesure de dose a conduit à étudier le FGDOS, un dosimètre en silicium innovant à très haute sensibilité qui permet de détecter des doses extrêmement faibles.La calibration du transistor NMOS et du FGDOS a été effectuées en exposant les dosimètres à des rayons gamma. Leur réponse au rayonnement a été caractérisée en termes de linéarité, de variabilité d'un lot à l'autre et d'effet du débit de dose. L'influence de la température a été étudiée et une méthode pour compenser l'effet de la température a été développée et mise en œuvre.Le FGDOS étant un système sur puce (SoC) avec plusieurs caractéristiques qui font du dosimètre un système extrêmement flexible, la caractérisation de ses différents modes de fonctionnement (actif, passif et autonome) a été effectuée. Suite à la première caractérisation, des questions se sont posées concernant les mécanismes de dégradation de la sensibilité affectant le dosimètre. Pour étudier ce phénomène, des campagnes d’irradiations ont été effectuées avec une puce d'essai incorporant seulement le circuit sensible au rayonnement du FGDOS. L'analyse des expériences a permis de comprendre les processus responsables de la dégradation de la sensibilité, en séparant la contribution du transistor de lecture de celle du condensateur à grille flottante. Les résultats de cette étude nous ont amenés à envisager de nouvelles solutions de conception et des méthodes de compensation.L’aptitude du transistor NMOS et du FGDOS à mesurer la dose ionisante dans les champs de rayonnement mixtes produits par le complexe d’accélérateurs du CERN a été vérifiée à l’aide de test radiatifs accélérés effectués dans le centre de tests en champs mixte à haute énergie du CERN (CHARM). / The Total Ionizing Dose (TID) monitoring is nowadays a crucial task for a wide range of applications running in harsh radiation environments. In view of the High-Luminosity upgrade for the Large Hadron Collider, the monitoring of radiation levels along the CERN’s accelerator complex will become even more challenging. To this extent, a more detailed knowledge of the radiation field in the accelerator tunnel and its adjacent areas becomes necessary to design installation, relocation or shielding requirements of electronics sensitive to radiation. Aiming to improve the monitoring of the TID delivered by the mixed radiation field generated within the accelerator system, investigations on new suitable dosimeters have been carried out.With this research, two devices have been studied and characterized to be employed as dosimeter and possibly to complete the use of the silicon sensor currently employed at CERN for TID monitoring, i.e. the RADiation-sensitive Field Effect Transistor (RADFET): a commercial NMOS, and an ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) named FGDOS. The devices have been selected following two opposite approaches: on the one hand, reducing the costs would allow the density of the deployed sensors to increase. As a direct consequence, a more detailed dose map would be obtained for large distributed systems like the LHC. On the other hand, the radiation monitoring can be further improved by deploying more sensitive detectors, which would allow to measure the dose where the levels are too low for the RADFET. Moreover, sensors with higher resolution would permit the characterization of the radiation field in a shorter time, which means within a lower integrated luminosity.The first approach has been accomplished by searching for alternative solutions based on COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) devices, which would significantly reduce the costs and guarantee unlimited availability on the market. For this aim, investigations on a commercial discrete NMOS transistor, which was found to be very sensitive to the radiation, has been carried out.The need for improving the resolution of TID monitoring led to investigate the FGDOS, which is an innovative silicon dosimeter with a very high sensitivity that permits to detect extremely low doses.The calibration of the NMOS and the FGDOS have been performed by exposing the dosimeters to γ-ray. Their radiation response has been characterized in terms of linearity, batch-to-batch variability, and dose rate effect. The influence of the temperature has been studied and a method to compensate the temperature effect has been developed and implemented.Being the FGDOS is a System-On-Chip with several features that make the dosimeter an extremely flexible system, the characterization of its operational modes (Active, Passive and Autonomous) have been performed. Following the first characterization, some questions arose concerning the sensitivity degradation mechanisms affecting the dosimeter. To investigate this phenomenon, radiation experiments were performed with a test chip embedding only the radiation sensitive circuit of the FGDOS. The analysis of the experiments allowed the understating of the processes responsible for the sensitivity degradation, by separating the contribution of the reading transistor and the floating gate capacitor. The results of this investigation led us to considerer new design solution and compensation methods.The suitability of the NMOS and the FGDOS for TID measurement in the mixed radiation field produced by the CERN’s accelerator complex has been verified by performing accelerated radiation tests at the Cern High energy AcceleRator Mixed field facility (CHARM). The consistency of both sensors with the RADFET measurement has been demonstrated. The high sensitivity of the FGDOS leads to a significant improvement in terms of TID measurement in mixed radiation fields with respect to the RadFET, especially for low radiation intensities.

Neste trabalho foram estudados os efeitos da radiação ionizante (gama) em mangas para exportação, simulando a etapa de acondicionamento da fruta durante o seu transporte, através da refrigeração em câmara fria. Em uma primeira etapa foram analisadas perda de peso, pH, acidez titulável, teor de sólidos solúveis, textura e decomposição. Posteriormente, realizaram-se análises sensoriais (alterações de cor, odor, sabor, textura). Os ensaios foram realizados em dois estádios de maturação das frutas, ou seja, 2 e 3, com o propósito de se estudar o melhor ponto de colheita para a melhor dosagem de irradiação. Os resultados revelam que o tratamento da manga Tommy Atkins na dose de 0,75 kGy foi significativo, juntamente com a fruta no estádio 2, para o retardo do amadurecimento e consequente ganho de tempo para a exportação. / It had been studied the effect of the ionizing radiation (gamma) in mangoes for exportation, simulating the stage of preservation of the fruit during its transport, through the refrigeration in cold chamber. In a first stage they had been analyzed through loss of weight, pH, treatable acidity, soluble solid, texture and decomposition. Later, sensorial analyses had been become fulfilled (alterations of color, odor, flavor, texture). The assays had been carried through in two stadiums of maturation of the fruits, that is, 2 and 3, with the intention of studying optimum point of harvest for the best dosage of irradiation. The results disclose together that the treatment of the mangoes Tommy Atkins in the dose of 0,75 kGy was significant, with the fruit in stadium 2, for the retardation of the matureness and consequent profit of time for the exportation.

Estudo do uso da radiação ionizante como ferramenta de seleção de formas promastigotas metacíclicas de Leishmania amazonensis e a indução de resposta imunológica em modelos experimentais / The study of ionizing radiation as a tool for select promastigotes forms of Leishmania amazonensis, and the immunological response in experimental models

Atualmente, milhões de pessoas, por todo o globo, estão sob risco de serem infectados por um protozoário transmitido vetorialmente por pequenos insetos flebotomíneos. Este parasita é a Leishmania spp., causadora de uma patologia de amplo espectro, que varia desde a moléstia cutânea (tegumentar) até a visceral (kala-azar). A leishmaniose cutânea é a manifestação clínica de maior ocorrência (mais de 90% dos casos). A radiação ionizante, gerada em fonte de 60Co, tem sido utilizada com sucesso para promover alterações físico-químicas em diferentes protozoários, incluindo a Leishmania spp. Em trabalhos anteriores determinou-se que formas promastigotas de Leishmania amazonensis, irradiadas com diferentes doses de radiação gama, perdem sua viabilidade mantendo, porém, sua imunogenicidade. No presente trabalho, estudouse a utilização da radiação ionizante como ferramenta na seleção de formas metacíclicas do parasita em cultura axênica para a possível produção de imunógenos irradiados mais eficientes. Os resultados demonstram que culturas irradiadas com 400 Gy de radiação gama, possuem uma concentração de aproximadamente 75% de parasitas metacíclicos, capazes de produzir, in vitro, uma infecção que mimetiza a ocorrida naturalmente. Estes parasitas irradiados têm sua estrutura celular interna modificada mantendo, entretanto, seu arcabouço externo intacto. Camundongos de uma linhagem suscetível imunizados com leishmanias irradiadas com diferentes doses tiveram sua produção de imunoglobulinas aumentada, e mantiveram os títulos elevados após o desafio com parasitas não irradiados. Em outras linhagens pesquisadas este padrão se manteve, porém em títulos menores, sendo que camundongos imunodeficientes não responderam à imunização nem ao desafio. / Actually, millions of people around the globe are under the risk of infection by a protozoan transmitted by a bit of a sand fly. This parasite is a Leishmania spp. This causes a wide spectrum disease, since a coetaneous disease to a visceral one. The coetaneous form is the major clinical manifestation (above 90%). The ionizing radiation, produced in a 60Co font, had being successes used to promote physical-chemical transformations on different protozoans, including Leishmania spp. In previous work was determined that promastigotes forms of Leishmania amazonensis, irradiated with different doses of radiation, lost their viability maintaining, however, their immunogenicity. In this work, was studied the use of ionizing radiation as a tool for selection of metaciclic forms of the parasite in axenic culture, for a possible efficient irradiated immunogen production. Our results shown that cultures irradiated with 400 Gy of gamma irradiation, has 75% of metaciclic form, which are capable to produce, in vitro, an infection that is similar the natural occurrence. These irradiated parasites have their internal cellular structure modified, maintaining their external structure intact. Susceptible strain of mice immunized with leishmania irradiated with different doses had high immunoglobulin production, and maintained this production after the challenge with naive parasites. In other strains this default was similar, however in lower titles. Immunodeficient mice didnt produce immunoglobulin nor on the immunization or on the challenge.

Estudos microdosimétricos usando um sistema de irradiação de nêutrons rápidos filtrados de reator de pesquisa para aplicação de radiobiologia / Microdosimetric studies using a filtered fast neutron irradiation system of research reactor to application in radiation biology

Neste trabalho, medidas microdosimétricas foram realizadas usando um contador proporcional equivalente à tecido - TEPC. com uma cavidade esférica de diâmetro de 1.27 cm. O TEPC foi preenchido com gás propane puro, C3HS, à pressão de 5,6 kPa (42 Torr), que é equivalente a 1,3 &mu;m em diâmetro de unidade de densidade do tecido. O instrumento de medida microdosimétrica foi irradiado com radiação de nêutrons rápidos do reator de pequisa do Nuclear Science Center da Texas A&M University, em College Station,-Texas. Os feixes de nêutrons rápidos foram emitidos com três diferentes valores de potência. 0,5, 1,0, e 2,0 kVV, durante 1 hora para alto ganho e o mesmo tempo para baixo ganho, totalizando 2 horas para cada potência, com 0,0083 Gy/min de taxa de dose. O neutron foi filtrado usando o sistema de irradiação de néutrons rápidos fortemente nitrados (FNIS). do Nuclear Science Center, para obter uma redução da contaminação da radiação de neutron por radiação gama e assim obter espectros microdosimetricos de neutrons como, distribuição de freqüência de energia lineal e distribuição de dose de energia lineal, com boa precisão, e outras grandezas como, freqüência média de energia lineal, dose média de energia lineal, dose absorvida, dose equivalente e fator de qualidade médio de neutron rápido. Os resultados obtidos foram satisfatórios, com os espectros microdosimetricos de nêutrons mostrando uma contaminação de radiação gama abaixo de 5 %, especialmente para distribuição de dose de energia lineal. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho foram comparados com outros da literatura científica, que usaram outros procedimentos para a redução da contaminação do neutron por radiação gama. estando em concordância com eles. / In this work, microdosimetric measurements were performed using a Wall-less Tissue Equivalent Proportional Counter - TEPC was filled with spherical cavity with an inner diameter of 1.27 cm. The TEPC was tilled with pure propane gas, C3H8 at 5.6 kPa (42 Torr) pressure, which is equi\\alent to 1.3&mu;m in diameter of unit density tissue. The microdosimetric measurement device was irradiated with fast neutron radiation from Texas A&M University Nuclear Science Center research reactor, in College Station, Texas. The fast neutron beams were emitted with three different power values, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 kW. during Ih for both high gain and low gain, totalizing two hours for each power with 0.0083 Gy/min of dose rate. The neutron was filtered using the heavily filtered fast neutron irradiation s\\stem (FNIS). from Nuclear Science Center, to obtain a decrease of neutron radiation contamination by gamma ray and so, to gain the neutron microdosimetric spectra as. frequency distribution of lineal energy, dose distribution of lineal energy with good precision, and another quantities as frequency-mean of lineal energy, dose- mean of lineal energy, absorbed dose, equivalent dose and average quality factor of fast neutron. The obtained results were satisfactory, with the neutron microdosimetric spectra showing a gamma ray contamination under 5 %, especially to dose distribution of lineal energy. The results obtained in this work were in agreement when compared with another results from scientific literature, which used another procedure to reduce the neutron contamination by gamma ray.

Percepção de estudantes do ensino médio sobre o tema radiação e tecnologias relacionadas: ideias informais e categorias conceituais

Nenhuma / A radiação e suas tecnologias geram reações de medo e ansiedade em diferentes comunidades, pois é comum que esses temas estejam relacionados aos seus efeitos negativos como os acidentes, as bombas atômicas e o câncer. Apesar disso, os avanços tecnológicos e as discussões envolvendo a utilização das radiações têm se tornado cada vez mais importantes a despeito da percepção pública permanecer suportada pelo senso comum. As ideias sobre radiação estão inseridas na discussão de riscos, como um problema de preocupação pública, pois como não é compreendida, gera somatização dos medos, preconceitos e insegurança na população. Os tópicos mais recorrentes na literatura envolvem a saúde dos seres humanos: radiação solar, acidentes radiológicos, energia nuclear e campos eletromagnéticos da tecnologia de telefonia móvel. A OMS (Organização Mundial de Saúde) demonstra preocupações em estudar e esclarecer à população quanto a esse último tema, pois ele tem se firmado como ponto de discussão de saúde pública internacional. Partindo dessas discussões, é interessante que a abordagem sobre os temas seja dialógica, isto é, as ideias informais do leitor inseridas na comunicação. Assim, é preciso conhecer o pensamento da população, no caso deste trabalho, dos estudantes de ensino médio, sobre o tema e como se relacionam com as situações abordadas. A partir do questionário elaborado foram levantadas as ideias apresentadas e a forma como elas influenciam suas decisões nas situações propostas. Esse trabalho, então, investigou como se pensa o conceito de radiação, a forma que se lida com tecnologias e situações relacionadas e, também, organizou e analisou essas ideias para formar as bases para uma abordagem dialógica sobre radiação e assuntos relacionados. A partir dos resultados, foi possível perceber que os estudantes associam a ideia de radiação à ondas eletromagnéticas e raios como os do sol. Contudo, essa visão não foi utilizada por eles na avaliação das situações-problema propostas, ou seja, eles não recorreram a esses conceitos para julgar as situações. Nas afirmações dos alunos é possível perceber que a apresentação de informações sobre os assuntos foi positivamente aceita, pois eles se embasaram nelas para responder ou contestar as questões.
