Rituals and repetitions : the displacement of context in Marina Abramovic's Seven Easy Pieces

Tomic, Milena 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis considers Seven Easy Pieces, Marina Abramović’s 2005 cycle of re-performances at the Guggenheim Museum, as part of a broader effort to recuperate the art of the 1960s and 1970s. In re-creating canonical pieces known to her solely through fragmentary documentation, Abramović helped to bring into focus how performances by Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman, Gina Pane, Vito Acconci, Valie Export, and herself were being re-coded by the mediating institutions. Stressing the production of difference, my analysis revolves around two of the pieces in detail. First, the Deleuzian insight that repetition produces difference sheds light on the artist’s embellishment of her own Lips of Thomas (1975) with a series of Yugoslav partisan symbols. What follows is an examination of the enduring role of this iconography, exploring the 1970s Yugoslav context as well as the more recent phenomenon of “Balkan Art,” an exhibition trend drawing upon orientalizing discourse. While the very presence of these works in Tito’s Yugoslavia complicates the situation, I show how the transplanted vocabulary of body art may be read against the complex interweaving of official rhetoric and dissident activity. I focus on two distinct interpretations of Marxism: first, the official emphasis on discipline and the body as material producer, and second, the critique of the cult of personality as well as dissident notions about the role of practice in social transformation. It is in this sense that a distinctly spiritualist vocabulary also acquires a political dimension in drawing upon movements such as Fluxus and Neo-Dada, and underscoring the value of the immaterial and the non-productive. Finally, I explain how a reversal of Slavoj Žižek’s tripartite structure of ideology can help to articulate how a repetition of Beuys’s actions in this context actually displaces their cosmological aspect by virtue of the re-enactment setting alone. / Arts, Faculty of / Art History, Visual Art and Theory, Department of / Graduate

Re-evaluation of older antibiotics in the area of resistant mycobacteria / Mycobacterium tuberculosis, resistance, antibiotiques, re-evaluation, Mycobacteries

Muhammed Ameen, Sirwan 26 November 2013 (has links)
Firstly, we measured the serum concentration of Sulfamethoxazole (SMX)-Trimethoprim (TMP) in patients treated with high dosage regimen. The mean values and standard deviation for SMX concentration was 161.01± 69.154 mg/L and of 5.788 ± 2.74 mg/L for TMP. Susceptibility testing yielded a minimum inhibitory concentration 90% (MIC90) of 10 mg/L for cotrimoxazole and sulfadiazine. All M. tuberculosis complex mycobacteria (MTC) were inhibited by 20 mg/L cotrimoxazole and sulfadiazine. Also, the MICs of ivermectin varied between 10 and 40 mg/L, against 13 MTC mycobacteria. Moreover, all M. tuberculosis isolate were resistant to squalamine with MIC > 100 mg/L. Also, all Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) isolates were resistant to trimethoprim with MIC > 200 mg/L. Cotrimoxazole, sulfamethoxazole and sulfadiazine exhibited MIC of 10 mg/L, 25 mg/L and 20 mg/L, respectively against all tested MAC isolates except for Mycobacterium chimaera which exhibited MICs of 10 mg/L for these molecules. Comparing the DHPS gene sequence in M. intracellulare and M. chimaera type strains and clinical isolates yielded only four amino acid changes.

Transtextuality, (Re)sources and Transmission of the Celtic Culture Trough the Shakespearean Repertory / Transtextualité, (re)sources et transmission de la culture celtique par le biais du répertoire shakespearien

Savatier-Lahondès, Céline 08 November 2019 (has links)
This dissertation explores the resurgence of motifs related to Celtic cultures in Shakespeare’s plays, that is to say the way the pre-Christian and pre-Roman cultures of the British Isles permeate the dramatic works of William Shakespeare. Such motifs do not always evidently appear on the surface of the text. They sometimes do, but most often, they require a thorough in depth exploration. This issue has thus far remained relatively unexplored; in this sense we can talk of a ‘construction’ of meaning. However, the cultures in question belong to an Ancient time, therefore, we may accept the idea of a ‘reconstruction’ of a forgotten past. Providing a rigorous definition of the term ‘Celtic’ this study offers to examine in detail the presence of motifs, first in the Chronicles that Shakespeare could have access to, and takes into account the notions of orality and discourse, inherent to the study of a primarily oral culture. The figure of King Arthur and the matter of Britain, seen as the entrance doors to the subject, are studied in relation to the plays, and in the Histories, the analysis of characters from the ‘margins’, i.e. Wales, Ireland and Scotland provides an Early Modern vision of ‘borderers’. Only two plays from the Shakespearean corpus are set in a Celtic historical context – Cymbeline and King Lear – but motifs surge in numerous other works, such as Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, The Winter’s Tale and others. This research reveals a substrate that produces a new enriching reading of the plays

Villkor under garantitid i entreprenadförsäkring, en jämförande studie.

Sefastsson, Anna-Klara January 2014 (has links)
In Sweden there is no legal regulation for the obligations and responsibilities between the contracting parties within the construction, civil engineering and installation sector. To clarify uncertainties regarding the liability, actors from theses sectors have agreed upon a voluntary regulation, called the General Conditions of Contract. When insurance companies want to enter the Swedish construction insurance market, they face a regulatory framework that not only regulates the construction market, it also imposes requirements on terms and conditions that must be included in the construction insurance. These terms are perceived as ambiguities and create difficulties and inhibit the ability for these insurance companies to offer competitive insurances. One of the terms that create these difficulties is the guarantee period, which is period of time starting from handing over the construction project to the employer, during this period the contractor still has the responsibility for the construction project. The guarantee period regulated by the General Condition of Contracts differs from the international use of the term both in length and in content. The purpose of this thesis is to expose the differences and similarities between the term "guarantee" in comprehensive all risk insurance regulated by the General Conditions of Contract; AB 04 and ABT 06 with two international used insurance policies from reinsurance companies Munich Re and Swiss Re and defect exclusions LEG and DE. The problem discussed in this thesis is whether the exposure of risk for the insurance companies during the guarantee period is comparable or if they deviate? The results presented in this thesis indicates that the guarantee period regulated by AB 04 represents a lower risk exposure than the guarantee period regulated by ABT 06 and that the guarantee period regulated by ABT 06 is most comparable to guarantee period compared in this thesis. The result presented partially confirms simultaneously partially refutes the apprehension insurance companies have regarding the guarantee period according to the General Conditions of Contract, this knowledge about the guarantee period can be used so that more insurance companies can establish on the Swedish construction insurance market.

Reidentifikace objektů ve video streamu pomocí metod data analytics / Re-identification of Objects in Video Stream using Data Analytics

Smrž, Dominik January 2021 (has links)
The wide usage of surveillance cameras provides data that can be used in various areas, such as security and urban planning. An important stepping stone for useful information extraction is matching the seen object across different points in time or different cameras. In this work, we focus specifically on this part of the video processing, usually referred to as re-identification. We split our work into two stages. In the first part, we focus on the spatial and temporal information regarding the detected objects. In the second part, we combine this metadata with the visual information. For the extraction of useful descriptors from the images, we use methods based on the color distribution as well as state-of-the-art deep neural networks. We also annotate a dataset to provide a comprehensive evaluation of our approaches. Additionally, we provide a custom tool we used to annotate the dataset. 1

Stakeholders' Social Interaction in Requirements Engineering of Open Source Software

Bhowmik, Tanmay 09 May 2015 (has links)
Requirements engineering (RE) involves human-centric activities that require interaction among different stakeholders. Traditionally, RE has been considered as a centralized, collocated, and phase-specific process. However, in open source software (OSS) development environments, the core RE activities are iterative and dynamic and follow a rather decentralized software engineering paradigm. This crosscutting characteristic of open source RE can be conceptualized using the “Twin Peaks” model that weaves RE together with software architecture. Although many weaving mechanisms have been proposed in recent years, the lack of theoretical underpinning limits a mechanism’s applicability and usefulness in different scenarios. In this research, we hypothesize stakeholders’ social interaction as an ecologically valid weaving mechanism of the “Twin Peaks” in open source RE. In this work, we use the phrase “stakeholders’ social interaction” to indicate interaction among stakeholders regarding the software system that takes place through some communication means, such as posting comments and artifacts over the issue tracking system. We investigate the influence of stakeholders’ social interaction in different RE activities, in particular, requirements identification, creativity in RE, and requirements implementation of OSS systems. This research enables us to gain valuable insights to generate guidelines for enhancing software engineering practice in relevant areas.

Improving snow removal plans through task reassignment

Thomas, Erik January 2022 (has links)
The planning of snow removal routes is complicated by the fact that the amount it snows, and thus the amount of resources, that is, vehicles, needed to clear it, varies from year to year. This variation has created a demand for a way to quickly generate efficient snow removal plans that take the resources that are available into account. In this report we describe the development of an ad hoc heuristic algorithm that improves already existing feasible solutions to the snow removal problem. It accomplishes this by reassigning tasks from the vehicles with the longest tours to those with the shortest tours, followed by reordering their tasks to ensure that the solution remains feasible. This algorithm is meant to be implemented in a larger piece of software and it is tested on a set of pre-generated solutions for a given network and number of vehicles, including the best known ones. Over half of the previously best known solutions were improved by this algorithm.

Poliquin, Myriam January 2014 (has links)
Process Support for Requirements Engineering : A Requirements Engineering Tool Evaluation Approach

Matulevičius, Raimundas January 2005 (has links)

Requirements engineering (RE) tools are software tools which provide automated assistance during the RE process. However, the RE practice relies on office tools rather than RE-tools provided by various companies. Reasons for not using the RE-tools include financial causes. The part of the problem also lies in the difficulty to evaluate such tools before acquisition to support the RE process. Hence, to support the completeness and effectiveness of RE-tool evaluation, a sound framework providing methodological guidelines is needed.

This work proposes an RE-tool evaluation approach (R-TEA), which provides a systematic way of the RE-tool assessment using two evaluation frameworks. The framework for the functional RE-tool requirements consists of three dimensions: representation, agreement, and specification. The representation dimension deals with the degree of formality, where requirements are described using informal, semiformal and formal languages. The agreement dimension deals with the degree of agreement among project participants through communication means. The specification dimension deals with the degree of requirements understanding and completeness at a given time moment. The second framework categorises the non-functional RE-tool features to process, product, and external requirements. Process requirements characterise constraints placed upon the user’s work practice. Product requirements specify the desired qualitative characteristics of RE-tools. External requirements are derived from the user’s internal and external environment.

Both frameworks are applied to a specification exemplar which application initiates preparation of the requirements specification for the RE-tool selection. Assessment of the RE-tools’ compatibility to the specified RE-tool requirements is performed using different evaluation techniques. Decision about RE-tool selection is made after summarising all the assessment results.

A prototype tool is developed supporting the frameworks and R-TEA. The R-TEA method is tested in a number of case studies. The findings report on positive trends of the frameworks, prototype and the R-TEA method.
