O transnacional e o local nas revistas Reader\'s Digest e Seleções: relações de gênero nos Estados Unidos e no Brasil (1939-1971) / The transnational and the local on Reader\'s Digest and Seleções: gender relations in The United States and in Brazil

Fonseca, Renan Reis 08 February 2019 (has links)
This thesis analyzes two variety magazines, the North American Reader\'s Digest and the Brazilian Seleções do Reader\'s Digest, among the years of 1939 and 1971. Both magazines were based on the selection and condensed reproduction of articles published in other printed periodicals. The publications make up important sources of research for the perception of transnational elements between the two countries, that is, what was chosen as possible to be reproduced in each of the nations, circulating themes in different ways, depending mainly on local contexts. The purpose of the analysis focuses on the gender relations and representations that circulated between the United States and Brazil, focusing on the way women are presented and mobilized in different situations, paying attention to the way in which the magazines, taking into account local perspectives, were able to dialogue and propose specific roles in different social and political contexts. The research also seeks to understand the diffusion of a discourse based on the understanding of a \"universal middle class\", considering the way these magazines presented topics for instance family, birth control and political participation as guiding elements to achieve such propagation. Finally, it intends to point out how subalternized groups and of contestation, such as the movements for Civil Rights and women, were negatively presented in the pages of the periodicals, while they reinforced types considered behavioral by their editors.

Frames: a Script and Solo Performance of Selected Writings of Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Latham-Jones, Angela 08 1900 (has links)
this thesis explores the writings of Anne Morrow Lindbergh and their potential for oral performance. Lindbergh's life and works are examined, theories of interpretation are explored, and a solo performance script is compiled from various writings of Anne Morrow Lingbergh. The script was rehearsed and presented so that its effectiveness in oral performance could be evaluated. Both the performer and the audience members attest to the appeal of Lindbergh's writings as literature to be performed orally.

Medvedev, Yevgeny 15 September 2011 (has links)
The abstract of the dissertation « La théorie de la lecture chez Marcel Proust », submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for PhD to be awarded in June 2010.

Engaging Preservice Teachers in Reader's Theatre: Promoting Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching

Scott, William Paul 23 July 2021 (has links)
The demographic landscape of the elementary classroom continues to grow more diverse. Due to this increasing diversity, it is important that all educators, no matter the level of experience, are prepared to support all students, especially those from unique or under represented backgrounds. One way to assist educators in meeting these needs is to provide them with educational resources and effective teaching strategies that are culturally and linguistically responsive. A possible resource and teaching strategy is the literacy tool, Reader's Theatre. Considering this, the two studies contained in this dissertation provide readers with a glimpse of how Reader's Theatre may be used as a valuable resource to foster culturally and linguistically responsive classrooms. A content analysis (Berelson, 1952; Northrop et al., 2019; White and Marsh, 2006) of 141 Reader's Theatre scripts contained in the Best Class Collection (Young, 2019) was conducted to assess the cultural and linguistic authenticity of those resources. A thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke, 2006) was carried out accessing preservice teachers' perceptions and understandings of Reader's Theatre as a culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategy gauging the value of combining the two teaching strategies. Overall, the findings from these two studies may serve as starting points for future research in respect to the value of implementing Reader's Theatre as a culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategy as discussions about culturally and linguistically responsive teaching remain prevalent in today's elementary school classrooms. / Doctor of Education / Students in today's elementary classrooms come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. Due to this increasing diversity, teachers must be prepared to support these students in a variety of ways. One of the best ways to support these unique students is to use teaching strategies that are engaging and allow students to connect with what is being taught in the classroom. Reader's Theatre, normally used as a literacy strategy, could be used as a tool to address the different cultures and languages of students. In this dissertation, two research studies were conducted about the connection of Reader's Theatre and culturally and linguistically responsive teaching. The first study looked at a group of Reader's Theatre scripts to see if they were appropriate to use in the classroom to support students from multicultural backgrounds. In the second study, preservice teachers, or student teachers, were interviewed to get their thoughts as to any possible value using Reader's Theatre as a culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategy. The preservice teachers expressed that there is value in combining the two strategies, but only when teachers plan carefully and use Reader's Theatre in a meaningful way. As elementary classroom populations continue to grow in the number of students from diverse backgrounds, the information from these two studies can provide teachers with an idea of what may be possible to support all students in being successful.

Tempo, aspecto e modo verbais e o gênero textual carta do leitor: análise de tarefas do Celpe-Bras / Time, aspect and verbal modes and the readers letter genre: task analysis of Celpe-Bras

Orra, Samira Ahmad 13 December 2013 (has links)
This thesis aims to determine the uses of verbs in the genre Reader´s letter through the analysis of textual productions of foreigners in the Brazilian Official Examination of the Proficiency of Portuguese Language for foreigners (CELPE-Bras). Our corpus consists of the redactions of the students of Portuguese Language, made from two tasks of CELPE- Celpe that required the writing of a reader`s letter. The tasks were applied to students of Portuguese as a Foreign Language in São Paulo. We go to the analysis with the hypothesis that the verb plays a key role in the discursive construction of the text (Travaglia, 1991 and Castilho, 2012), and we used the methodology of Vargas (2011) that demonstrates that by textual analysis how the use of verb participates in the production of the sense. We also developed reflections on the relationship between argumentation and the verbal categories like mode (indicative or subjunctive), time (past, present or future), and aspect (perfective vs. imperfective).
