Variable acoustics in multi-functional stadiums / Variabel akustik i multi-funktionsarenor

Vernersson, Felix January 2022 (has links)
This paper handles the background theory, methods and results of the master thesis project titled "Variable acoustics in multi-functional stadiums". \\ The purpose of the project was to investigate whether variable room acoustics could be applicable to large multi-functional stadiums to improve their ability to adapt the soundscape in the stadium for different types of events. The two events which were analyzed during the project was electrically amplified concerts and ice hockey matches. \\ The paper starts by going over relevant acoustical and psycho-acoustical parameters and concepts as well as giving a few examples on already existing multi-functional stadiums including their acoustical strengths and weaknesses towards the two types of events. The report concludes that reflections are of the utmost importance for both types of events, especially early-arriving reflection with great magnitudes. At concerts, these are wished to be repressed while at hockey-matches, the early reflections should be amplified and increased in quantity to give the crowd a better feedback from the stadium increasing the supporters ability to create a loud and intense atmosphere. \\ Gallon fabric, aluminum and plexi-glass was tested in the MWL-laboratory in order to assess the materials reflective capabilities as the idea was to use these materials as reflectors during the hockey-matches. The results showed close to full reflection across the entire spectrum for aluminum and plexi-glass while the gallon fabric showed great reflective capabilities for the higher frequencies while letting the lower frequencies pass through the material. \\ The effects off the reflectors on the soundscape was simulated in a fictional stadium which was built in the modelling software SketchUp using the simulation software ODEON. The results showed great promise as the reflectors gave a great increase in the early reflections. As for the concerts, rolling-curtains which can easily be mounted and removed was added around the walls of the stadium while the reflectors was removed. This solution also showed great results during the simulations as the early reflections was now suppressed instead of magnified.

Bezuidenhout, Suzanne-Louise 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (Afrikaans and Dutch))—University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / When reading Henning J. Pieterse’s work the reader is confronted by a sombre central theme, that of loss. Loss manifests itself in different ways in his oeuvre, but the most notable forms of loss are as result of the ending of a love affair or death. A second noticeable theme in Pieterse’s work is art and artistry, specifically the creative writing process. In my opinion these themes are most evident in his 1998 collection of short stories Omdat ons alles is (Because we are everything). The main premise in this collection of short stories is the suicide of the beloved wife and the accompanying feelings of loss and grief. The male characters in these stories struggle with processing and accepting loss - loss due the suicide of a beloved wife or due to the ending of a relationship. Various attempts are made to forget the loss and to numb the pain. The characters turn to alcohol, drugs and sex as ways of trying to work through or process the loss, but these methods only bring temporary relief. These self-destructive methods op escapism are contrasted with the constructive act of writing. At the same time the journey to psychic recovery and the processing of trauma becomes a creative journey. By expressing trauma through writing about wounding experiences there is striven to process it. The processing of trauma by means of literary narratives is often extremely exhausting and distressing. In the act of writing about trauma, painful memories that are repressed in the psyche are brought to the surface. In this thesis Omdat ons alles is is viewed from a therapeutic perspective to establish whether the act of writing plays a part in the processing of trauma. Narrative therapy is concerned with the finding of words and language to communicate trauma by creating a story in which the meaning and coherence that trauma destroys, can be recaptured. Trauma destroys the meaning and coherence of a life story and leaves the individual powerless and confused, but by finding words to communicate trauma, there is a positive movement in the direction of dealing with and accepting loss. In Omdat ons alles is Pieterse maps the journey of working through loss and trauma, but in these stories it is also emphasised that this journey is by no means a joyride. In the end it seems that the act of writing does play a part in the processing of trauma, but to which extent, remains an open question.

Vybraná témata ze vzdělávací oblasti člověk a jeho svět zpracována s použitím metod a technik dramatické výchovy / Selected Topics From the Educational Theme a Human and his World; explored employing the Methods and Techniques of Drama in Education

Rusiňáková, Nikola January 2012 (has links)
1 Abstract: This thesis is entitled "Selected topics from the educational theme A human and his world; explored employing the methods and techniques of Drama In Education." The first section explores the theory. It not only deals with Drama In Education; its content, principles, form, methods, and planning; but also what a teacher of drama should be; the characteristics of children in the early years of education; the assessment of drama; and of course the theme - A human and his world. The practical section describes the elements of a range of methods and contains individual lesson script. Each lesson is underpinned by a particular method. This section goes on to deal with assigned goals; their verification in practice; and finally, conclusions drawn from the implementation of the planned lessons. In designed lessons I used selected methods and techniques of structured drama and preparatoried games and exercises. I found out that very different topics from this educational theme A Human and his world can be worked up by methods and techniques of drama education because I suggested different topics from this educational theme and I verified them in practice.

Escámez Jiménez, Óscar 04 October 2010 (has links)
Homosexuality was articulated around two ideas during the first part of the Cold War: heroic assumptions of masculinity -subordinators of alternative masculinities- and the frontier as place and myth. The heroic masculinity -long ago hegemonic- and the homosexuality of the fictional characters analysed go hand in hand in a time when medical, legal, political and mass-media discourses meant to separate them. We can see that union in one of the most man-dominated places in American tradition: the frontier, be it real, symbolic or imaginary. These characters cannot get away from the patriarchal positions which oppress them as homosexuals. Therefore, that masculinity they long to hold onto does not guarantee their integrity as human beings, except in the categorical frontier with reality itself. For these fictions, written at the threshold of postmodernity, appeal to its disintegrating and liberating processes.
