Lorenzini, Charles January 2015 (has links)
This work presents a study of repetitive and resonant-repetitive controllers applied to Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs). First, the performance of repetitive controllers is analyzed in terms of requirements and test procedures defined in the IEC 62040-3 standard. From these results the main causes of the reference tracking error are discussed and the impact of correction methodologies applied to repetitive controller transfer function is evaluated. In the context of the resonant-repetitive controllers two topologies are analyzed: the first is composed of a resonant controller tuned to the fundamental frequency of the signal to be followed in parallel with a repetitive controller tuned to the same frequency; the second topology is composed of the same parallel connection between the resonant and the repetitive controllers but a complementary filter is added in series with the repetitive controller aiming to restrict each controller action to different frequency bands. Then a variation of the resonant-repetitive controller with a filter is proposed, in which the filter is used to correct the phase of the repetitive controller loop and consequently increase the magnitude at the frequencies of interest. From this proposed structure, a state space model representing the closed loop system is obtained and the controller design is carried out by the solution of an optimization problem based on LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) constraints. Simulation results in Matlab/PSIM are presented to demonstrate the improvement on system performance with the proposed controller.

Mecanismos processuais de gestão das demandas repetitivas pelo poder judiciário / Procedural mechanisms to manage repetitive litigation by the judiciary

Oliveira, Thaís Hirata de 04 March 2015 (has links)
The instant dissertation aims to present a brief diagnosis of repetitive litigation, and of how the civil procedure system proposed alternatives to contain it. At first, it was possible to verify that a change to paradigm in order to make the access to justice collective decisively contributed to an increase in litigation, which made the distinction between individual and collective claims necessary, once they coexisted with repetitive claims and shared the same procedural instruments, adapting them in view of the absence of an own procedural micro system. Hence, this study was intended to analyze the main aspects of collective lawsuits, emphasizing the ones presented as obstacles to its efficiency to solve mass conflicts, and highlighting the absence of lis pendens among collective and individual lawsuits, the optional suspension of the individual lawsuit, the ope legis legitimacy to file collective lawsuits, the res judicata erga omnes secundum eventum probationis or res judicata secundum eventum litis and the reasons which led to the prohibition to use collective lawsuits concerning matters naturally prone to repetitive litigation. In addition to collective lawsuits, it was possible to verify that the system also sought to manage repetitive claims through procedural mechanisms, while providing techniques for judgment, which could have effects on multiple individual claims concerning the same legal or factual controversy, with the aim of consolidating precedents, in addition to expediting the decisions, in order to attain equality, effectiveness and legal certainty. Furthermore, this work sought to contextualize the issue within a comparative law perspective, presenting the new procedural techniques which have also arisen as alternatives to collective lawsuits, specifically the German institute Musterverfahren - which inspired the Incidental Motion to Settle Repetitive Litigation (Incidente de Resolução de Demandas Repetitivas) in the Project for the New Brazilian Civil Procedure Code, as well as other paradigms in the North American (Class Actions), British (Group Litigation Order), Italian (Azione Collettiva Risarcitoria ) and Portuguese (Regime Processual Experimental) systems. Finally, this work sought to present the main aspects of the Incidental Motion to Settle Repetitive Litigation (Incidente de Resolução de Demandas Repetitivas), as a new procedural instrument arising as an additional attempt to contain the increase of the mass litigation that burdens the Judiciary.

Incidente de Resolução de Demandas Repetitivas: contexto, teoria e aplicação / Incident of Resolution of Repetitive Demands: context, theory and application

Oliveira, Fernando Antônio 21 September 2018 (has links)
The Incident of Resolution of Repetitive Demands was created by the Civil Procedure Code of 2015, with the expectation of respecting the principles of legal certainty, isonomy and celerity of procedure, impacting on the improvement of justice access. Therefore, this study aims to examine whether the IRDR is actually compatible with the constitutional mentioned procedural principles and if, on the other hand, it does not affront other equally constitutional principles, verifying if this instrument is able to function as a real tool capable of contributing to development in the Democratic State of Law, considering the need to expand individual freedoms, here aligned with access to an integral, stable and coherent legal order, but respecting the guarantees indispensable to due process. In this context, it is proposed to systematize the incident, based on the provisions of the Civil Procedure Code, in conjunction with the theory developed about the institute, as well as with the analysis of empirical data collected in the process, decisions, reports and other informations related of incidents already tried by various courts. Thus, discussing theory and practice, it is proposed to better understand the context and systematics of the IRDR, seeking to establish a critical reading, but that contributes to the discussions and to the improvement of the application of the incident.

Fumal, Arnaud 25 April 2007 (has links)

Weber, Beatrice 10 February 2008 (has links) (PDF)

Repetitive member factor study for cold-formed steel framing systems

Clayton, Scott January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science / Sutton F. Stephens / Cold-formed steel has become a preferred building material for structural farming in many different types of structures, commonly for repetitive members such as floor joists, roof rafters, roof trusses and wall studs. For wood framed structures with repetitive members, a repetitive member factor increases the allowable bending stress from 1.00 to 1.50 times the reference design value, depending on both the type of material and the type of load. Currently, however, the bending strength of cold-formed steel repetitive members is not permitted to be increased, even though the method of framing is quite similar to that of wood except for the material properties. Typical light-frame wood construction consists of floor, roof, and wall systems, each with repetitive members connected by sheathing. A repetitive system is one of at least three members that are spaced not farther apart than 24-inches. These members must also be joined by a load distributing element adequate to support the design load. The behavior of the individual members, then, is affected by inclusion into this system. Additionally, the connected sheathing increases the bending capacity of bending members due to both composite action and load sharing. Composite action is a result of T-beam-like action between the repetitive member and connected sheathing, but is limited by nail slippage in the connection. Secondly, due to differential deflection between the members, sheathing is also able to distribute loads from weaker, more flexible members to the more rigid and stronger members. This effect is known as load-sharing. The same general principles of repetitive use should apply to cold-formed steel due to its similarity to wood construction. Accordingly, this paper conducts a preliminary study of the effects of both composite action and load-sharing in cold-formed steel assemblies and subsequently recommends using a repetitive member factor for cold-formed steel members.

Repetitive negative thought and anhedonia : a systematic review (literature review) ; Repetitive negative thought and reward sensitivity (empirical paper)

Burrows-Kerr, Ruth January 2015 (has links)
Literature Review: Anhedonia, the loss of interest or pleasure in usually pleasurable activities, is a core symptom of depression and is associated with a reduction in positive affect (PA). Repetitive negative thought (RNT) is implicated in the development and maintenance of psychiatric disorders. It has been hypothesised that RNT causally contributes to anhedonia. The aim of this review was to explore this relationship to answer two questions: Is there a relationship between RNT and anhedonia? Does RNT causally contribute to anhedonia? Review inclusion criteria were: studies using standardised measures to report a relationship between RNT and anhedonia or reduced PA. Results suggest that cross-sectional and longitudinal studies identify a relationship between RNT and anhedonia. Preliminary evidence from experimental studies shows that RNT causally contributes to anhedonia. Limitations within the field are that anhedonia is rarely measured directly or behaviourally. Future research is warranted to explore the relationship between RNT and anhedonia with a particular focus on direct and behavioural measures of anhedonia. Empirical Paper: It is hypothesised that repetitive negative thought (RNT) causally contributes to anhedonia. There is cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence of this relationship, but it has not previously been investigated directly using experimental methods. In the present study, student participants were randomly assigned to an unresolved goal (RNT) manipulation (n = 43) or resolved goal (control) manipulation (n =41) prior to completing a reward sensitivity task. This task has been reliably found to train a response bias towards the stimuli that is differentially positively reinforced, with both depression and self-reported anhedonia associated with a reduced response bias. The unresolved goal versus resolved goal manipulation was effective, with the unresolved condition producing significantly higher levels of RNT during the reward sensitivity task relative to the resolved condition. Inconsistent with study predictions, there was no significant difference between the conditions on response bias, although there were trend findings, which tentatively suggest that RNT may influence anhedonia. Potential accounts for the null findings and future research are discussed.

Parent-Reported Behavioural Symptoms of Anxiety in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders across Levels of Functioning

Dault, LAUREL 30 October 2013 (has links)
The current study examined anxiety and its observable correlates in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) across a broad range of levels of cognitive functioning that in the past have not been accurately explored. I sought to challenge the assumption that there is a positive linear relationship between anxiety and level of cognitive functioning by including individuals across a broad range of cognitive functioning in my analyses, and by developing a measure (The Somatic Anxiety Scale) appropriate for assessing anxiety symptoms in children with little to no communicative functioning. Sixty-seven parents of children with ASD aged 5 to 12 completed a battery of measures in an online study assessing their child’s anxiety, repetitive behaviours, sensory processing issues, and adaptive functioning. The Somatic Anxiety Scale was significantly correlated with an existing measure of anxiety designed for verbal children (when only highly verbal children were assessed), suggesting that it may provide a foundation to develop a measure of anxiety symptoms in non-verbal individuals. No clear predictive relationship was observed between level of cognitive functioning and anxiety. Both lower and higher-order repetitive behaviours predicted anxiety, although higher-order behaviours were more predictive. Finally, a cluster analysis indicated three patterns of anxious behaviour divided across three categorizations of level of functioning. I suggest that previous assumptions about the relationship between level of cognitive functioning and anxiety may be underestimating the complexity of the relationship and suggest future research to study this relationship further. / Thesis (Master, Psychology) -- Queen's University, 2013-10-30 10:25:56.049
