Die interpersoonlikestylrepertoire van middelvlakbestuurdersKoortzen, Pieter, 1966- 06 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The goal with the research is firstly is to study and theoretically describe the interpersonal style
repertoire of middle level managers according to the interpersonal approach and more specifically
the 1982 Interpersonal Circle. Secondly the interpersonal development interventions and the
development process for middle level managers were discussed from this approach. The third
theoretical goal involved compiling a interpersonal development programme for middle level
managers.
The empirical goals of the research involved the evaluation of the interpersonal style repertoires
of middle level managers by means of self and fellow manager evaluations in an attempt to get
an indication of the most prominent interpersonal styles of middle level managers. Furthermore
the empirical investigation involved an analysis of the influence of the interpersonal development
programme in expanding the interpersonal style repertoires of middle level managers.
The results of the self evaluations suggest that the warm-friendly, deferent-trusting, assureddominant
and sociable-exhibitionistic styles are the primary styles of the 263 middle managers
in the sample. Their evaluations by the 82 fellow managers seem to indicate that the warmfriendly,
assured-dominant, deferent-trusting, and sociable-exhibitionistic styles are the most
prominent interpersonal styles of middle level managers. Although these results seem to
correspond to the teoretically applicable style repertoires of middle level managers the scores
were all below average.
XIV
With the interpersonal development programme an attempt was made to make the group of 32
managers aware of their own interpersonal style repertoires and to provide them with the
opportunity to study the way in which these are used in interpersonal transactions during a
experiential learning experience. The development interventions, process and the influence of
the development programme are also discussed.
benadering beskryf.
XVI

Exploring bullying, cyberbullying and the authoritarian parenting style among grade six and seven learners in BenoniYoung, Kelly Anne 11 1900 (has links)
This study aimed to gain insight into the nature and extent of traditional and cyberbullying
among Grade Six and Seven learners in four public primary schools in Benoni. Using the Social
Learning Theory as a basis for understanding bullying as a learned behaviour (socially learned
through the observation of authoritarian parents), a quantitative research method was applied which
utilised an online self-report questionnaire to examine the relationship between bullying and the
Authoritarian parenting style. Results indicate that 50.4% of learners had been victimised, while
31.6% and 8.8% had engaged in perpetrating traditional and cyberbullying, respectively at least
once (N = 279). Further results revealed that the Authoritarian parenting style is significantly
related to the perpetration of both types of bullying. These results bring to the fore the
reciprocal relationship between both types of bullying, and indicate a need for systemic
intervention at the primary school level (involving parents/caregivers). Interventions should
therefore not seek to separate types of bullying into discreet problems, but rather focus on their
common underlying aspects, including parenting behaviours / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

Implementation of the curriculum and assessment policy statements : challenges and implications for teaching and learningMoodley, Grace 11 1900 (has links)
South African educators have experienced problems understanding and implementing various previous curriculum policies such as Curriculum 2005 and the Revised National Curriculum Statement. These problems have made it necessary for the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to introduce the national Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) in 2012. CAPS was intended to improve teaching and learning, but as with the implementation of any new curriculum it implies the following: The need for educator training; Need for new resources; Change in policy;
An increased workload.
This qualitative study which was conducted at a primary school in the Imfolozi Circuit aimed to determine how CAPS is implemented and its implications on teaching and learning. Data collected from focus group interviews and document analysis revealed that while educators welcomed the introduction of CAPS for its clarity, structure, clear guidelines and time frames however they experienced challenges related to the quality and the amount of training, inadequate resources, increased workload and the impact of rapid pace of the curriculum on teaching and learning. Based on these results recommendations are made for the improvement of the implementation of CAPS. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / M. Ed. (Curriculum Studies)

The fears expressed and coping mechanisms of a selected group of middle childhood South African children living in a children's homeBurkhardt, Kathe-Erla 04 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc)--University of Stellenbosch, 2003. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The primary aim of this study was to establish normative data regarding the fears expressed by and
coping mechanisms in a selected group of middle childhood children living in a children's home with
respect to content, number, level and pattern of fears and the coping mechanisms as well as their
perceived efficacy. Children living in a children's home were referred to as children who were
removed from family care as a result of lawful intervention and were thus seen as a special
population.
The secondary aim was to ascertain whether any differences in the fears expressed were found with
respect to the independent variables of a special population and gender. The three measuring
instruments were the Free-Option Method (FOM), the Fear Survey Schedule for Children Revised
(FSSC-R) and the Coping Strategy (CS). The FOM was used to determine the content and number
of fears, the structured FSSC-R to establish the content, number, level and pattern of fears and the
CS to obtain the coping mechanisms used and their perceived effectiveness.
A predominantly quantitative method of data collection was used. This was also true for the data
analysis. In all three questionnaires were completed by 141 children living in a children's home (70
boys and 71 girls) in the Western Cape between the ages of 8 and 13. The three questionnaires
comprised of the FOM, FSSC-R and the CS and were administered in the above-mentioned order.
The content of fears based on the results of the FOM yielded only a few similarities upon comparison
to the findings of a recent study by. More similarities were apparent upon comparison of the results
of the FSSC-R implying that the structuredness of the measuring instrument plays a role in how
universal childhood fears really are. The number as well as level of fear was higher for the children
living in a children's home in comparison to the results of normative populations. This also holds
true for the level of fear on all of the fear factors of the FSSC-R Gender differences that were
apparent, were consistent with previous research with girls expressing a higher number and level of
fears than boys. The girls in comparison to the boys also displayed a higher level of fear on all the
five factors.
The coping strategy most often used as well as perceived effective was the secondary coping
strategy. This was followed by the primary coping strategy and finally the relinquished control coping strategy. Specific coping strategies, which were utilised, were support seeking and avoidance
and these are associated with a higher level of intemalising symptoms. Overall, the coping strategies
utilised were found to be effective in reducing the fear experienced.
Only a few similarities were apparent upon companson of the results of the two measunng
instruments, the FOM and the FSSC-R, emphasising the need for the development of an South
African Fear Schedule.
Lastly, recommendations for future studies are provided.

A programme for developing South African adolescents' social and emotional well-beingVan der Westhuizen, Leanne 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2002. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This assignment provides a description of the cognitive, social and emotional developmental tasks
of adolescence. In addition a summary of the most prevalent social, emotional and behavioural
problems reported during this developmental phase is provided. With this information as a context,
a school-based, curricula-integrated prevention programme is then introduced as a possible tool to
facilitate the development of positive mental health among adolescents. The programme discussed,
namely Programme Achieve (2nd ed.) by Dr. M.E. Bernard of California State University, is unique
in its aim to both enhance academic achievement and social-emotional well-being. Programme
Achieve (2nd ed.) is based on Bloom's school learning theory, rational-emotive therapy and rationalemotive
education and various cognitive-behavioural and socialleaming research findings. With its
sound theoretical and research base Programme Achieve (2nd ed.) offers students the opportunity to
learn a mindset that will help them develop their full academic, emotional and interpersonal
potential. Within the South African "Draft Revised National Curriculum Statement" (2001),
provision is made for lessons pertaining to the students' personal development. In response to this,
the author explores the suitability of Programme Achieve (2nd ed.) as a means to attain the specific
Learner Outcomes and Assessment Standards as specified in the "Draft Revised National
Curriculum Statement" (2001).

Exploring students’ patterns of reasoningMatloob Haghanikar, Mojgan January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Physics / Dean Zollman / As part of a collaborative study of the science preparation of elementary school teachers, we investigated the quality of students’ reasoning and explored the relationship between sophistication of reasoning and the degree to which the courses were considered inquiry oriented.
To probe students’ reasoning, we developed open-ended written content questions with the distinguishing feature of applying recently learned concepts in a new context. We devised a protocol for developing written content questions that provided a common structure for probing and classifying students’ sophistication level of reasoning. In designing our protocol, we considered several distinct criteria, and classified students’ responses based on their performance for each criterion.
First, we classified concepts into three types: Descriptive, Hypothetical, and Theoretical and categorized the abstraction levels of the responses in terms of the types of concepts and the inter-relationship between the concepts. Second, we devised a rubric based on Bloom’s revised taxonomy with seven traits (both knowledge types and cognitive processes) and a defined set of criteria to evaluate each trait.
Along with analyzing students’ reasoning, we visited universities and observed the courses in which the students were enrolled. We used the Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP) to rank the courses with respect to characteristics that are valued for the inquiry courses. We conducted logistic regression for a sample of 18 courses with about 900 students and reported the results for performing logistic regression to estimate the relationship between traits of reasoning and RTOP score.
In addition, we analyzed conceptual structure of students’ responses, based on conceptual classification schemes, and clustered students’ responses into six categories. We derived regression model, to estimate the relationship between the sophistication of the categories of conceptual structure and RTOP scores. However, the outcome variable with six categories required a more complicated regression model, known as multinomial logistic regression, generalized from binary logistic regression.
With the large amount of collected data, we found that the likelihood of the higher cognitive processes were in favor of classes with higher measures on inquiry. However, the usage of more abstract concepts with higher order conceptual structures was less prevalent in higher RTOP courses.

Efeitos da renda sobre atributos da alimentação no Brasil: Uma análise da influência de medidas associadas ao salário mínimo sobre dimensões da segurança alimentar e nutricional / Effects of income on food attributes in Brazil: An analysis of the influence of measures associated to the minimum wage on food and nutritional security dimensionsSantana, André Bento Chaves 21 September 2018 (has links)
The objective of the study was to assess the adequacy of the use of minimum wage in the investigation of aspects related to food and nutrition security in Brazil, in comparison to other income measures; especially referring to its characteristics in representing purchase power, nutritional quality of food consumption patterns at population level and alternatives for solution of food insecurity situations. Using data from the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Brazilian Interunion Department for Statistics and Economic Studies (DIEESE), a set of analysis was performed in relation to: (1) evolution of purchase power of the Brazilian minimum wage from its inception until nowadays, in comparison to the monetary value required to acquisition of the food items originally proposed in the basic food basket used for its calculation; (2) nutritional adequacy of the Brazilian basic food basket in comparison to recent nutritional recommendations; (3) nutritional quality of the food consumption patterns from the Brazilian population in comparison to a diet based on items of the basic food basket, using the Healthy Eating Index Revised adapted for Brazil; (4) characterization of Brazilian households under food insecurity in order to map attitudes adopted to deal with food scarcity. The results showed deterioration of the relevance of the Brazilian minimum wage in the food and nutrition context, due to the absence of updates in its monetary value during periods of high inflation in Brazil, and due to changes in nutritional recommendations derived from advances in knowledge without revision of the composition of the basic food basket originally proposed for estimation of the minimum wage. The Brazilian population dietary pattern nowadays and the diet based on the basic food basket were marked by low proportion of fruits, vegetables and cereals; and excess of calories from fats, oils and sugar. In relation to food insecurity, results pointed to preference for adoption of attitudes related to intra-household food redistribution and support of social networks in order to deal with lack of food. Government programs were rarely mentioned as potential solutions for reducing the impacts of food scarcity in the household context. The evidences analyzed in the study indicated that policies for adjustment of the minimum wage and programs for income distribution in Brazil had low effectiveness for promotion of improvements in food consumption patterns among the Brazilian population. Certain government programs directed towards promotion of food security probably present insufficient coverage or low dissemination among low income segments of the population, compromising the assurance of adequate access to food in Brazil.

雙語使用之認知處理--概念與詞彙連結之不對稱性研究 / Cognitive processing in bilingual: the asymmetry of links between concept and lexicon劉効樺, Liu, Shiau-Hua Unknown Date (has links)

Personality assessment and ethnicity : a New Zealand study : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Psychology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand. EMBARGOED till 25 October 2010Cox, Simon Unknown Date (has links)
Ethnic status is one of the most protected demographic groups in terms of test bias and discrimination in personnel selection, as such bias breaches many laws, morals, and ethical procedures. To date there has only been two published studies that have used New Zealand relevant ethnic groups when analysing whether personality measures used in pre-employment settings exhibit different mean scores. The present thesis performed a systematic evaluation on the impact of ethnicity on personality traits. The study examined the impact of ethnicity on NZ Army Officer applicant personality assessment scores measured by the EPQ-R and GPP-I. Four ethnic groups (NZ Europeans, Mâori, Pasifika, and Asian) were analysed for mean trait score differences among ethnic groups, the stability of these differences across different personality inventories and models, the variance of personality traits, the impact of ethnicity on age and gender relationships with personality traits, and how these differences were related to employment selection outcomes. The analyses revealed that ethnicity did have some impact on mean personality assessment scores used in the study. However, these were mostly small differences among ethnic groups. In addition, most of these differences found on the EPQ-R and the GPP-I were not consistent across inventories and models. There were no significant variance differences found on personality traits among ethnic groups. While initial analysis suggested that ethnicity did not influence the relationship between age and gender on personality assessment, further examination suggested that the relationship between gender and personality was impacted on by ethnicity. There were reassuring results found for New Zealand psychologists and HR specialists, as only two of the twelve traits analysed showed moderate differences on traits that were related to selection outcomes. However, for the NZ Army OSB selection process the findings in the present study indicate that the Lie scale on the EPQ-R and the Vigor trait on the GPP-I may need to be interpreted with caution for Asian and Pasifika groups. These results are discussed in terms of implications for personality theory, measurement, and the direction of future research.
