L'intégration sociale des immigrés roumains en France / Social Integration of Romanian Immigrants in France

Matichescu, Lupsa-Marius 06 June 2011 (has links)
In order to present the specificity of social integration process of the immigrants in the host country, our research propose to analyze the case of Romanian immigrants in France. We consider social integration as a process that has its own characteristics and dimensions and, in the same time, as part in a complex system where more interdependent process are involved. In consequence we construct our research project based on this perspective. We analyze firstly the social integration process according with its own dimensions and secondly in relation with the migration and the rule transgression processes. Social integration and these two others social processes that could influence the first one, are each analyzed at macro, meso and micro-social level. The intensive study on social integration, the main study of our research project, is oriented on the analyses of its dimensions: structural, cultural, relational, identity, satisfaction and future plans. This study is based on field research realized in France, more exactly in the towns of Paris, Nice, Montpellier, Strasbourg and Bordeaux. Then, in order to identify the relation between migration and social integration, another study on emigration was run in Romania. Observing the important relation between social integration process and the negative image of Romanian immigrants, we introduce in our project a new research oriented in analyses the forms of transgression of rules.

Policies of cultural assimilation in Transylvania : Magyarization and Romanianization

Burcea, Horatiu L. January 2009 (has links)
This paper examines the issue of cultural assimilation in terms of Romanianization and Magyarization from the angle of a historical ethnography conducted in the Transylvanian village of Ghimeş-Făget, Bacău. These two concepts are readings of social change based on the assumption that the deep social transformations that Transylvania experienced during the changes of rule in the region between Hungary and Romania were parallel to the implementation of deliberate strategies of assimilation. More than simple reforms, these social changes are considered to have created shifts in the population's language, religion, sense of historical heritage and national identity. According to this perspective, Transylvania thus became Magyarized during Hungarian rule, and Romanianized after 1920. Focusing on the evolution of the educational system as a key factor in the execution of these policies, this paper attempts to demonstrate how these two processes can be related to each other and become, in a sense, complementary; it also develops an interpretation of the phenomenon of reassimilation through the concept of “national therapy.” / Introduction : Transylvania's multiculturalism -- Literature and theory -- Research methods -- Historical ethnography of Ghimeş-Făget -- Conclusions. / Department of Anthropology

Romanian Transnationalism, Mobility and Integration in Sweden : Social Media Manifestations and Its Uses Among Migrants

Mihai, Tudor Petrut January 2020 (has links)
With the research aim to analyze how the Romanian migrants residing in Sweden use social media for transnational, mobility and integration purposes, this thesis builds on previous transnationalism and social media literature to reach its key findings. Its theoretical field uses Vertovec’s takes on transnationalism along with Wolpert’s place utility theory in order to analyze the observational results. These results were acquired by doing observations of four Facebook groups over a one-month period to which representative discussions from a few group posts were added. Thus, on one hand, the results show that the observed Romanian Facebook groups serve as avenues for socializing, networking and help-seeking between the Romanian migrants in Sweden. Strong potential for the formation of personal connections based on the discussions had by the migrants is also found. On the other hand, this thesis finds that the groups also function as major pathways for the reproduction of Romanian political and cultural aspects within the migrant community, a process which is not obvious and not directly intended for these groups.

The right of free movement: A story of securitisation and control in the UK or the story of Ion Popescu

Mitropoulos, Konstantinos January 2015 (has links)
Recently in Britain there has been an on-going discussion on the right of European citizens to move to, work and reside freely in any European Union member-state. British politicians and media, stepping on the significant number of Eastern Europeans who moved to the United Kingdom, articulated a securitising discourse representing them as ‘benefit tourists’ and criminals who threaten the integrity of the welfare system and social cohesion. However, this is only part of the securitisation story. This paper argues that the securitisation of mobile European citizens and, consequently of the right of free movement itself, is used as governmentality in order to allow in the country only those who are needed and keep the rest out, and at the same time to raise support for a renegotiation of the relationship between Britain and the European Union. It will be demonstrated that the securitisation process takes place through policies and everyday practices on the one hand, and through the securitising discourse articulated by politicians and media on the other. Moreover, the possibility of securitisation having a long-lasting effect by creating a security rationale in which all future policies would be embedded is assessed.
