Experimental multiuser secure quantum communicationsBogdanski, Jan January 2009 (has links)
We are currently experiencing a rapid development of quantum information, a new branch of science, being an interdisciplinary of quantum physics, information theory, telecommunications, computer science, and many others. This new science branch was born in the middle of the eighties, developed rapidly during the nineties, and in the current decade has brought a technological breakthrough in creating secure quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum secret sharing, and exciting promises in diverse technological fields. Recent QKD experiments have achieved high rate QKD at 200 km distance in optical fiber. Significant QKD results have also been achieved in free-space. Due to the rapid broadband access deployment in many industrialized countries and the standing increasing transmission security treats, the natural development awaiting quantum communications, being a part of quantum information, is its migration into commercial switched telecom networks. Such a migration concerns both multiuser quantum key distribution and multiparty quantum secret sharing that have been the main goal of my PhD studies. They are also the main concern of the thesis. Our research efforts in multiuser QKD has led to a development of the five-user setup for transmissions over switched fiber networks in a star and in a tree configuration. We have achieved longer secure quantum information distances and implemented more nodes than other multi-user QKD experiments. The measurements have shown feasibility of multiuser QKD over switched fiber networks, using standard fiber telecom components. Since circular architecture networks are important parts of both intranets and the Internet, Sagnac QKD has also been a subject of our research efforts. The published experiments in this area have been very few and results were not encouraging, mainly due to the single mode fiber (SMF) birefringence. Our research has led to a development of a computer controlled birefringence compensation in Sagnac that open the door to both classical and quantum Sagnac applications. On the quantum secret sharing side, we have achieved the first quantum secret sharing experiment over telecom fiber in a five-party implementation using the "plug & play" setup and in a four-party implementation using Sagnac configuration. The setup measurements have shown feasibility and scalability of multiparty quantum communication over commercial telecom fiber networks.

Previous issue date: 2009-08-06 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / We start this work studying the appearance of geometric quantum phases as in the relativistic
as in the non-relativistic quantum dynamics of a neutral particle with permanent
magnetic and electric dipole moment which interacts with external electric and magnetic
fields in the presence of linear topological defects. We describe the linear topological
defects using the approach proposed by Katanaev and Volovich, where the topological
defects in solids are described by line elements which are solutions of the Einstein's equations
in the context of general relativity. We also analyze the in
uence of non-inertial
effects in the quantum dynamics of a neutral particle using two distinct reference frames
for the observers: one is the Fermi-Walker reference frame and another is a rotating frame.
As a result, we shall see that the difference between these two reference frames is in the
presence/absence of dragging effects of the spacetime which makes its in
uence on the
phase shift of the wave function of the neutral particle. In the following, we shall use our
study of geometric quantum phases to make an application on the Holonomic Quantum
Computation, where we shall show a new approach to implement the Holonomic Quantum
Computation via the interaction between the dipole moments of the neutral particle
and external fields and the presence of linear topological defects. Another applications for
the Holonomic Quantum Computation is based in the structure of the topological defects
in graphene layers. In the presence of topological defects, a graphene layer shows two
distinct phase shifts: one comes from the mix of Fermi points while the other phase shift
comes from the topology of the defect. To provide a geometric description for each phase
shift in the graphene layer, we use the Kaluza-Klein theory where we establish that the
extra dimension describes the Fermi points in the graphene layer. Hence, we can implement
the Holonomic Quantum Computation through the possibility to build cones and
anticones of graphite in such way we can control the quantum
uxes in graphene layers.
In the last part of this work, we study the Landau quantization for neutral particles as in
the relativistic dynamics and non-relativistic dynamics. In the non-relativistic dynamics,
we study the Landau quantization in the presence of topological defects as in an inertial
as in a non-inertial reference frame. In the relativistic quantum dynamics, we start our
study with the Landau quantization in the Minkowisky considering two different gauge
fields. At the end, we study the relativistic Landau quantization for neutral particles in
the Cosmic Dislocation spacetime.
quânticos no grafeno.

Snímač úhlové rychlosti se Sagnacovým interferometrem / Angular velocity sensor with Sagnac interferometerSkalský, Michal January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with theoretical description of fiber-optic angular velocity sensors, or gyroscopes, and further with design and construction of own sensor of this type. The theoretical part describes problematics of interferometric and resonant fiber-optic gyroscopes. Basic principles and physical limits are described for both types. The main focus is then put on analysis of possible conceptions of these sensors. Solutions using different optical configurations as well as various modulation and signal processing schemes are discussed. The practical part deals with design and construction of own interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope in closed-loop configuration. The gyroscope utilizes all-fiber components including piezoelectric phase modulator and unexpensive single-mode fiber, which are commonly used only for open-loop configurations. To realize closed-loop operation, special modulation scheme based on fully harmonic signal was develeped, which yields linear output within wide dynamic range. This type of modulation requires high level of synchronization achieved by using a field-programmable gate array module. The gyroscope utilizes powerful broadband fiber source, polarizer and Lyot depolarizer which ensure good reciprocity of whole architecture. The parameters of the sensor, obtained by measurement, are even comparable to some sensors using PM fiber, which is much more expensive.

Space-Division-Multiplexing Platform for a Delayed-Choice ExperimentKarlsson, Hilma January 2023 (has links)
This master’s thesis explores a space-division-multiplexing (SDM) platform fora delayed-choice experiment. SDM is a multiplexing technique for optical datatransmission that employs spatial modes in a multi- or few-mode fiber to increasethe transmission capacity. The spatial modes can thus be used as separate channels. SDM have shown great potential for quantum information systems, making it intriguing to investigate its broad applications by examining its use in adelayed-choice experiment. The delayed-choice experiment was proposed by J.A.Wheeler in 1978 explored the particle- and wave-like behavior of quantum particles and observe if the particle knows in advance if it should propagate as a waveor a particle through the experimental platform. Hence, it was suggested thatthe experiment should be changed after the particle entered the experimentalplatform. The experiment has afterward been realized in many different constellations but previous wave-particle delayed-choice experiments have not beendemonstrated with SDM nor with an all in fiber platform. The research involved modeling and constructing a SDM fiber-optic platform, only utilizing commercially available fiber optical telecommunication components. The platform was constructed with photonic lanterns, used as spatial division multiplexer and demultiplexer, and a two-input fiber Sagnac Interferometer,as a removable beam splitter. The system was tested with classical light but without difficulties, the platform could move to the quantum domain for performingthe delayed-choice experiment with single photons on the platform. The thesis resulted in a SDM platform with good performance for future measurement of bothparticle- and wave-like behavior of photons in a delayed-choice experiment.

Linear and non-linear properties of light / Square Gradient Bragg scattering in dielectric waveguides (Part I) and two-color folded-sandwich entangled photon pair source for quantum teleportation (Part II)Dietz, Otto 12 April 2016 (has links)
Any optical experiment, any optical technology is only about one thing: Manipulating the properties of light through interaction with matter. This thesis will address two important issues in this broad context, in the linear and in the non-linear regime. In Part I, the well-known Bragg reflection is revised. Bragg reflection takes place whenever light interacts with a periodic structure. The famous Bragg condition relates the lattice spacing in a crystal to the wavelength which is effectively reflected by that lattice. In this thesis the Bragg reflection in dielectric waveguides is investigated. It is shown that the Bragg condition is not sufficient to describe the scattering situation in waveguides with corrugated boundaries. It is demonstrated, analytically and numerically, that corrugated boundaries cause a new type of reflection condition, which goes beyond the Bragg picture. This scattering mechanism, the Square Gradient Bragg Scattering, is known from statistical scattering approaches. It is connected to the curvature of the boundary and has a strong influence on the wave propagation in these systems. Here the first general theory for Square Gradient Bragg Scattering is presented, which allows for making predictions for single corrugated waveguides with arbitrary boundaries. Another important property of light is investigated in Part II of this thesis: The entanglement of two photons. Entanglement is a counter-intuitive phenomenon, because it has no classical analogy. It especially violates our assumption of local realism, because distant particles seemingly act on each other instantaneously. In this thesis a new tunable and portable source of photon pairs is designed. The photon pairs are created in non-linear crystals, but their entanglement is enforced in a purely geometrical manner. This geometrical approach makes the setup tunable. This is where the new design supersedes its predecessor, which will be discussed in detail. The entanglement of the generated photons is demonstrated experimentally.
