Optimisation de la segmentation automatique de matériaux granulaires fragmentés / optimisation of automatic segmentation of granular fragmented materials

Chabardes, Théodore-Flavien 16 May 2018 (has links)
The physical properties of granular materials on a macroscopic scale derive from their microstructures. The segmentation of CT-images of this type of material is the first step towards simulation and modeling but it is not a trivial task. However, the quality of those images is often affected by the presence of noise and reconstruction artefacts. Obtaining 3D structures that fit the reality requires an adapted filter, which can only be obtained by a complete analysis of the material. This adapted filter enhances each grain and the full structure of the material is obtained by segmentation. However, non-spherical, elongated or non-convex objects fail to be separated with classical methods. Moreover, grains are commonly fragmented due to external conditions. Grains are ground into multiple fragments of different shape and volume; those fragments drift from one another in the binder phase. In this thesis, a complete process chain is proposed to segment complex structures that can be acquired by CT-scan. The raw data is first filtered and processed, and statistical features are extracted such as the number of phases, the number of grains of each phase, the size distribution and spectral identification of the phases. A primary segmentation is performed to identify every connection between touching grains and is based on the watershed transform. A hierarchy is built on the obtained contours to eliminate over-segmentation. Reconstruction of grains from fragments is achieved using affinities that match the local thickness and the regularity of the interface.Typical CT-images are voluminous, and the study of granular materials requires efficient use of modern computing architectures. Studying the state-of-the-art and its application to 3D data has oriented our choice has allowed us to balance the quality of segmentation and the computing cost. A novel segmentation method allows for higher performances while improving the quality of the result. Finally, two new algorithms are proposed for the labeling of connected components and for the watershed transformation.

Espectroscopia linear e não linear em vidros aluminosilicato de cálcio dopados com Térbio / Linear and nonlinear spectroscopy in Terbium doped calcium aluminosilicate glasses

Santos, Jéssica Fabiana Mariano dos 09 May 2019 (has links)
We present a series of new results concerning Tb+3 (Tb4O7 = 0,05 - 15,0 wt.%) doped calcium aluminosilicate glasses with different silica concentrations (7.0 and 34.0 wt.%). Through optical absorption, excitation spectra, photoluminescence, and fluorescence decay measurements, the blue and green Tb+3 emission are discussed in detail. Emissions in the UV-blue region (5D3 level) were analyzed by direct UV excitation (Stokes emission) and by upconversion (anti-Stokes emission), resonant excitation with level 5D4 level. For the excitation at 325 nm, the intensity of the green luminescence increases linearly with the Tb+3 concentration. In opposite, the blue emission is strongly reduced with increasing the Tb+3 concentration from 0.5 to 15.0% (wt%). In the case of the 488 nm excitation, strong saturation of the green emissions was observed for pump intensity two orders of magnitude lower than expected (Isat = 2,3×106 W/cm2). By means a rate equations system, we explain this behavior by the excited state absorption and by an absorption cross section (5D4 → 5D3) approximately two orders of magnitude larger than 7F6 → 5D4 transition. Excitation and emission spectra were performed at low temperature (6 K) in the Tb doped LSCAS glass. These spectra showed matrix emission bands. Time-resolved Z-scan measurements were performed (at 488 nm). From these measurements, we determine the polarizability change (Δαp) in Tb doped glasses. The silica concentration presents a great influence on the nonlinear properties measured. The Δαp value in low silica calcium aluminosilicate glass (7.0 wt.%) is approximately 10 times higher than the value determined the sample with a higher silica content (34.0 wt.%).

Continuous scanning laser doppler vibrometry for synchronized array measurements: applications to non-contact sensing of human body vibrations

Salman, Muhammad 21 August 2012 (has links)
Laser Doppler Vibrometry (LDV) is a non-contact technique for sensing surface vibrations. Traditionally, LDV uses one or more fixed beams to measure the vibrational velocity of specific points and orientations. In order to measure an angular velocity at least two laser beams are required. Instead, this research proposes to develop a Continuous Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (CSLDV) technique, based on a single laser beam continuously sweeping the area of interest using a scanning mirror. Linear scans allow the measurement of normal and angular velocity while circular scans allow the measurement of normal velocity and two angular velocities. The first part of the study analyzes the performance of rigid body models of both the short line and circular scans (< 1 cm) for measuring low broadband frequency vibrations of gel samples. This thesis focused on low frequency broadband vibration since natural human body vibrations (such as tremor or breathing) are typically below a few hundred hertz. Results for normal and angular velocity measurements are validated against conventional method of using two fixed LDVs. The second part of this research investigates the CSLDV technique for longer scans (< 5 cm). These long scans will be used to act as an array of virtual transducers at multiple points along the scanning path of the single laser beam; thus yielding similar information obtained using an array of several real fixed LDVs. A practical challenge encountered when using CSLDV is speckle noise, that is generated when a coherent light source is reflected back from an optically rough surface. The effect of speckle noise will be quantified by varying different parameters such as scan lengths, scanning frequency, target to sensor distance and the amplitude of excitation. These parameters will be optimized in order to reduce the error of vibration measurements obtained from the CSLDV. Such systems will be used to monitor multiple degrees of freedom of human skeletal muscle vibrations for elastography purposes. The forced vibration of human muscles will be analyzed using these CSLDV techniques. Overall contributions of this work include: (1) Validation of rigid body models of both short line and circular scans CSLDV for broadband low frequency linear and angular velocity measurements; (2) application to sensing natural human body vibrations (e.g., hand tremors); (3) replacement of an array of vibration sensors by a single long line scan CSLDV. (4) development of a dynamic elastography technique for skeletal muscles using CSLDV.

Schneider, Ulrich Johannes 15 June 2015 (has links) (PDF)

Ακριώτου, Μαριαλένα 02 April 2014 (has links)
The development of lasers has been a turning point in the history of science. It gave birth to the new field of nonlinear optics (NLO), which is the study of the interaction between intense light radiation and matter. In this regime, the response of matter cannot be considered linearly dependent on the intensity of the applied field, giving rise to significant new types of behavior and a wide spectrum of novel phenomena. Nonlinear optics has now become a rapidly growing field. It is at the forefront of progress in the area of photonics and optoelectronics. This vast development necessitates new materials with large nonlinearities, suitable for NLO applications in the laser and the optical communication technologies (e.g. optical switches). In that context, fullerenes have justifiably attracted considerable interest due to their intriguing physical and chemical properties; the extensive delocalization of their charge, as well as, their small reorganization energy can give rise to fast and high nonlinear optical response. Inevitably, the interest of the scientific community has now turned to the study of sophisticatedly altered fullerene derivatives. Depending on their ability to act as excellent electron acceptors, fullerenes are one of the most prominent chromophores that have been incorporated into multi-component molecular structures. Novel synthetic methods that enable the chemical modification of pristine molecules with electron donating moieties have been developed. This chemical functionalization of fullerenes can result in strong donor-acceptor interactions and photo-induced electron transfer, invigorating their nonlinear optical response. Their potential usage, which can range from photonics and photovoltaics implementations to applications in the biomedical area, is the main driving force of all this research. In the present study, the measurements were performed via the Z-Scan and the Optical Kerr Effect (OKE) techniques. The third order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) and the second order hyperpolarizability γ of the derivatives were determined employing 4 ns and 35 ps laser pulses respectively, at excitation wavelength of 532 nm. In that respect, the main aim of the current study is threefold. Firstly, to provide a complete overview of the third order nonlinear parameters determined. Secondly, to briefly discuss the linkage between the observed nonlinearities with the molecular structures of the examinant hybrids, as well as, the possible effect of photo-induced charge transfer. Lastly, to shed light upon the role of the different pulse duration in the measurements and the dominant contributing physical processes related. Consequently, the first part of this work provides some basic concepts of nonlinear optics and the physical processes related with it. Then reference will be made to the experimental techniques used, including the fundamental background of the data analysis procedure. Finally, the nonlinearities observed in the picosecond and nanosecond regime are presented.

Caracterização da não linearidade térmica de líquidos iônicos com a técnica de varredura Z / Investigated the nonlinear optics preoperties ionic liquids using z-scan tecnique

Santos, Cássio Eráclito Alves dos 09 March 2009 (has links)
In this work, we investigated the nonlinear optical properties of five types of Ionic Liquids (ILs): BMI.NTf−2, HMI.NTf−2, OMI.NTf−2, DMI.NTf−2 and dodMI.NTf−2 . Using the technique of Z-scan was unable to determine the values of the thermal contributions n2 the refractive index of nonlinear ionic liquids. The experiment used a laser to the Titanium Sapphire operating in modelocked regiment, tuned to 820 nm, emitting pulses of 200 fs duration, with a repetition rate of 76 MHz and tune to 410 nm was used a crystal BBO for the second harmonic generation. All ILs had not self-desfocalizadora linearity. We observed that with the change of anion BF−4 and PF−6 by anion NTf−2 was a decrease in the amount of n2 to heat the home at a wavelength of 820 nm. The increase in chains of carbons with the anion NTf−2 in order to observe an increase in the contribution of n2 heat was not as significant for wave-length at 820 nm. For the wavelength at 410 nm we can observe an increase in the amount of n2.

Jéssica Fabiana Mariano dos Santos 15 October 2014 (has links)
Trivalent Tb-doped materials exhibit strong emission in the green (5D4 → 7Fj, j = 3, 4, 5 e 6) and weak in the UV-blue (5D3 → 7Fj , j = 4,5 e 6). The blue emission can occur from direct UV excitation (Stokes emission) or by upconversion (anti-Stokes emission) through 488 nm excitation (resonant pump of 5D4 metastable level from the ground state). In this dissertation the luminescence properties of Tb3+ doped low silica calcium aluminosilicate glasses are reported and analyzed. The intensity of green luminescence increases proportionally to the concentration while the blue luminescence is strongly reduced with the increase of Tb3+ concentration from 0.5 up to 15.0 wt%. In the case of 488 nm excitation, a saturation behavior of the green emission is observed at intensities two orders of magnitude smaller than expected for bleaching of the ground state population. Using a rate equation model, we show that this behavior can be explained by an excited state absorption (ESA) from 5D4 to upper levels, with an absorption cross section two orders of magnitude larger than the ground state absorption. The effect of ESA could also be observed by the shortening of the green emission risetime with the increase of pump intensity. We infer that the CR is not the only loss mechanism responsible for the 5D3 depopulation. Cooperative upconversion from a pair of excited ions (5D3:5D3 or 5D3:5D4) and other mechanisms involving upper lying states (4f5d, charge transfer, host matrix, defects, etc.) may play a significant role. Time-resolved Z-scan measurements were also performed at 488 nm high order nonlinearities were observed (n2, n4, etc.). From n2, Δαp and Δσ of the order of 10-25 cm3 and 10-20cm2, respectively, were obtained. This Δαp value is the highest ever reported for a RE doped material, it seems to be due to the low energy value of the 4f5d state in Tb3+.

Novos resultados teóricos e experimentais para a técnica Z-scan / Novel theoretical and experimental results to Z-scan technique

Anderson Silva Chaves 30 June 2010 (has links)
The nonlinear refractive index n2 is the key parameter of the third order nonlinearity of optical materials. A simple, direct and sensitive measurement of nonlinear refractive index n2 is so-called Z-scan technique proposed by Sheik Bahae et al 1. In this work, a systematic study on this technique was performed. Based on Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction integral formula, it was possible to analyze the technique in order to investigate the influence of the apertures radius. We obtained unpublished analytical expressions when we consider small nonlinearities induced by thin samples. These results showed that the value of n2 obtained is about 36% larger than n2 obtained by Sheik-Bahae when the linear opening is 50%, for example.Extensions about the technique were made. Simulations were performed in order to test the feasibility of near-field Z-scan and two-color Z-scan measurements. Again it was also possible to find unpublished analytical results. The theoretical results were tested in some experiments and good agreement was found. Finally, a new method for measuring the nondegenerate refractive index was proposed. So, there is the possibility to obtain n2 at the wavelength of the probe beam in a two-color Z-scan experiment. This result is important since in many cases is impossible to perform a conventional z-scan measurement, due to the fact that the sample does not absorb the wavelength of the probe beam. A result of n2 for ruby at 633nm was obtained in good agreement with previous studies.

Systèmes d’Information Géographique et Lien Environnement – Santé (SIGLES) : contribution au développement d'outils cartographiques d'aide à la décision face aux risques sanitaires liés à l'environnement / Geographic Information Systems and Environmental Health

Occelli, Florent 24 September 2014 (has links)
Environmental and social inequalities in health (ESIH) over territories are related to two cumulative dimensions: populations exposed to their living poor quality environment and the vulnerability of these populations to the environmental risk factors, which can affect health. This research deals with the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to the field of environmental health. General purposes are the characterization of environmental media quality and the assessment of ESIH.Achieving these objectives requires a first step of harvest, genesis and formatting spatialized environmental databases. Such data are resulting from physico-chemical monitoring and biomonitoring. They were then mapped using GIS tools, including geostatistical spatial interpolation methods. On the over hand, spatial variability in the incidence of diseases were investigated using disease mapping methods (Standardized Incidence Ratios: SIR) and the detection of atypical clusters of events (scan statistics), which are based on disease registries. Finally, geographical ecological studies are developed to associate the environmental maps generated to health and socio-economic status. Thus, this work aims to answer the question \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"do people with poor state of health live in a poor quality environment?\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" This question has been studied through three main researches. The first relates the characterization of trace elements burdens in the environment and the assessment of ESIH on neighborhood scale, over three territories in the Nord-Pas de Calais (NPdC) region. This research is conducted from measurements of biological burdens performed both in epiphytic lichens and humans and from a localized index of deprivation. The measured metals were considered individually, but also holistically by developing an integrated multimetallic index, in order to describe the general status of environmental pollution by metals. Environmental inequalities were observed on neighborhood scale in Dunkerque. Our results assume that trace elements burdens in populations are affected by environmental burdens. In our second research we revealed spatial disparities in the incidence of end stage renal disease (ESRD) on small area in the NPdC. Unlike other factors (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, medical practices), we highlighted the role of socio-economic status in the occurrence of such disparities. Only a part of the ESRD variability is currently explained. It is therefore necessary to focus on the environmental hypothesis. The third research focuses on the spatial and spatio-temporal analysis of groundwater contamination by trace elements, in order to identify potential environmental risk factors in the incidence of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. This work is based on several collaborations with the REIN network, the EPIMAD registry, and several research teams (EA4483 and EA2694 Université Lille 2, TVES EA4477 ULCO).Following this thesis, the research prospects are to pursue the development of integrated indicators to assess population exposure to the multiple environmental media contamination. The results also indicate a lack of information in environmental databases compared to health registries. A work is thus needed to define the content of such databases. These are necessary to characterize the environmental quality and to help the assessment of interaction between the populations and their living environment.

Quantitative evaluation of brain metabolic variations : Application to PET-scans comparison.

Roche, Basile 07 November 2016 (has links)
Positron Emission Tomography is a nuclear medicine imaging method, allowing measure of an organe metabolic activity through degradation of an injected radio-tracer. This methode can be used, with the appropriate radio-tracer, such as 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose, for observation of cerebral metabolic activity. Through a clinical study, brain damaged patients with counciousness disorders had an implantation surgery of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) electrodes. To be able to do the follow up of the patient before and after the DBS procedure, and because it's compatible with electrodes, PET imaging is used. We ask ourself the following question, how to characterize variations between two PET images, to precisely mesure the impact of a treatment ? By construction, PET imaging obtained values depend of numerous factors. If patient weight and injected radio-tracer are classicaly normalized, using the `Standard Uptake Value' (SUV) method, glycemia for exemple is not. For this reason, compute activity variations between two PET images is a delicate problem. We propose a specific function to allow computation of metabolic variation maps for two PET acquisitions, based on a voxel approach of the PET imaging ratio. We apply it to the study of stimulated patients (DBS) with counciousness disorders. More specifically, we are interested in intra-patient PET imaging comparison (before versus after DBS), but also in inter-patient comparison (patient versus reference). During the intra-patient maps creation process, PET patient images are rigidly registered with a T1 weighted structural Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) acquisition. Due to major deformation caused by cerebral injuries, a precise brain mask is created by a clinical expert. During the inter-patient maps creation process, PET patient imaging are non-rigidly registered to a reference imaging, an Atlas we build. In this case, a semi automatic mask of the inside skull is computed. Results can be further improved by the supplementary application of a deformed manual mask. One of the method key elements, is to estimate a specific normalization for each imaging, making them comparable, in order to calculate quantitative charaterisation of cerebral metabolic variations. Cerebral metabolic variation maps obtained are then compared to observed clinical assesments and effects to judge their relevance.
