A relação entre a cultura popular e a cultura erudita na obra Sagarana, de Guimarães Rosa /

Nesse sentido, o seu percurso artístico deu continuidade à exploração dos princípios modernistas e inovou na linguagem e na abordagem da matéria literária. Abordando os contrastes da realidade brasileira a partir da relação de nossa diversidade cultural, o escritor não só propiciou um aprofundamento na exploração da temática regional, como, também, soube gerar uma forma artística adequada, tanto no processo de construção das intrigas quanto no gesto inovador no tratamento lingüístico. Nessa proposta complexa de continuidade e inovação, a utilização da cultura popular e a representação do universo sertanejo iletrado tornaram-se uma das bases a partir da qual o escritor arquitetou o seu projeto literário, contemplando ou integrando elementos das culturas popular e erudita como uma forma possível de adequar a sua arte à diversidade das manifestações culturais do Brasil. Voltado, assim, ao "entrelugar" da literatura rosiana, busco elucidar a partir da análise dos contos "O burrinho pedrês", "São Marcos" e "A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga", da obra Sagarana, como o escritor, entrelaçando elementos místicos e míticos em sua estrutura narrativa, figurativiza na riqueza da cultura popular, a projeção de personagens míticas pertencentes ao universo das convenções literárias, conferindo uma dimensão universal aos contos. / Abstract: One of the central figures of Brazilian third phase Modernism, João Guimarães Rosa is a regionalist writer who transcends the illiterate countryman’s universe representation into a mythical-poetic sphere, by means of a syncretistic poetic prose. His artistic trajectory reinforced the modernist precepts and innovated in language and in the ways of dealing with literary matter. Handling Brazilian reality’s contrasts, not only did Guimarães deepen the discussion among the theme of regionalism, but also managed to create a proper artistic matter. In this complex movement, popular culture and the representation of the illiterate countryman became the basis for the writer’s literary project. Contemplating elements of popular and scholastic cultures became a way of adequating his art to the diversity of cultural manifestations in Brazil. Focusing, thereby, on the "between character of space" in Rosa’s literature, my aim is to analyse the following short stories: "O burrinho pedrês", "São Marcos" and "A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga", from Sagarana, in order to understand how the writer represents the richness of popular culture interrelating mythical and mystical elements in his narrative. Resumo: Esta pesquisa, realizada através do relato oral de uma educadora, busca fornecer subsídios à reflexão histórica da disciplina Geografia. O estudo fundamentou-se, principalmente, na compreensão do relato biográfico de Livia de Oliveira, professora de Geografia que há tempos vem colaborando para o desenvolvimento de pesquisas sobre o Ensino de Geografia, tanto no nível universitário como no nível fundamental de educação. Partindo de suas rememorações, tentamos refletir sobre a influência desta professora na constituição da Geografia Escolar brasileira. Adotamos como método de trabalho as entrevistas e a coleta de depoimentos, como forma de registrar as memórias da professora; a partir de suas memórias fomos delineando nossa pesquisa. No decorrer do trabalho discutimos algumas implicações da metodologia da História Oral, bem como concepções sobre memória e rememoração, fundamentais às nossas reflexões. / Abstract: This research, made trough the oral report an educator, intends to contribute to the historical reflection of the discipline Geography. The study was mainly based on the understanding of the biographical report of Livia de Oliveira, teacher of Geography that a long time have been collaborating for the development of researches about the teaching of Geography, in the academicals level and in the fundamental level of education. Leaving of your remembrances, we tried to reflect about this teacher's influence in the constitution of the Scholastic Geography in Brazil. We adopted as work method the interviews and the collect of testimony, as a form of registering the memories of this teacher; starting from your memories, we went delineating our research. Fetiche e resistência na política educacional no Paraná: um estudo de caso sobre a gestão escolar e sua relação com a democratização do ensino / Fetish and resistance in the educational policy of Paraná: a case study on school management and its relationship with democratization of education

A pesquisa objetivou analisar as práticas de gestão escolar presentes em duas escolas públicas de Londrina-PR, tentando perceber seu comprometimento com uma determinada concepção de gestão e evidenciar as formas e graus de absorção da política educacional do governo estadual de Jaime Lerner (1995-2002) no interior das escolas. Além disso, procurou-se desvelar as formas de adesão e/ou resistência à proposta de gestão compartilhada implementada no governo em questão, e, nas demonstrações de resistência a esse governo -enquadrado nos moldes neoliberais-, os possíveis embriões necessários ao processo de democratização do ensino.Tendo o fenômeno da gestão escolar como síntese de múltiplas determinações, buscou-se, na realidade concreta, analisar dialeticamente a relação com sua essência, que apontam ora para uma gestão democrática, consubstanciada em pressupostos de justiça social e igualdade de direitos, ora para uma gestão compartilhada vinculada aos pressupostos da privatização/mercantilização da esfera pública. Para tanto, houve pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa documental com a análise de alguns documentos do período selecionado e pesquisa de campo. Esta última pautou-se principalmente em entrevistas semi-estruturadas e acompanhamento dos canais de participação dos quais a escola pública dispõe. Considerou-se a complexidade e contraditoriedade inerentes à prática de gestão escolar, possibilitando práticas tanto de fetiche quanto de resistência em escolas públicas estaduais do Paraná. Estudar o modelo de gestão implementado nesses oito anos de reformas no estado e na educação permitiu desmistificar a gestão compartilhada, indicando sua essência antidemocrática, arquitetada sob uma capa de modernização e transformação, fetichizando a dimensão da gestão, como se ela fosse o elixir para todos os problemas da escola, favorecendo, assim, a manutenção da hegemonia neoliberal. / The research aimed to analyze the practices of scholastic administration present in two public schools in Londrina-PR, trying to perceive its compromising with a determinate conception of administration and to evidence the kinds and degrees of absorption of the educational politicies of Jaime Lerners state government (1995-2002) inside the schools. Besides, it searched to attend the kinds of adhesion and/or resistance to the proposal of shared administration inserted in this government, and in the demonstrations of resistance for this government squared into the neo-liberals moulds, the possible and essential germs to the teaching. Having the phenomenon of scholastic administrations, it searched itself, in the concrete reality, to analyze dialeticly the relation with its essence that they point or for a democratic administration, consubstantiated in purposes of social justice and equality of rights, or for a shared administration entailed to the purposes of the privatization mercantilism of the public sphere. For as, there was bibliographic search and documental search with the analysis of some documents of the selected period and search of camps. This last search ruled itself, principally in semi-structured and attendance of the channels of participation that the public schools dispose. Considered itself the complexity and contrariety inherent to the practices of scholastic administration, allowing practices as fetish, as resistance in the public state schools of Paraná. To study the model of administration planted in these eight years of reforms in the state and in the education allowed to dismythicize theshared administration, indicating its antidemocratic essence, projected under a pretext of modernization and transformation, turning a fetish the dimension of the dministration, like if it were the elixir for all problems of the school.

Um estudo sobre a razão prática em Tomás de Aquino, analisada sob a luz de seus primeiros princípios. Parte-se da pergunta de como o ser humano descobre o que é bom e mau para si o que requer cobrir dois momentos distintos de sua obra: o tratamento dado à synderesis e, em seguida, como os princípios por ela apreendidos se articulam e como funcionam na mente humana. Defende-se, por fim, que é um equívoco ler os princípios da lei natural como primariamente normativos no sentido deontológico do termo. São, antes, diretivos, conferindo à razão prática individual os bens de cuja posse depende a felicidade humana. As implicações dessa leitura para a ética de Tomás de Aquino que aparece agora sob forte roupagem eudaimonista são, por fim, analisadas. / The present study focuses on Aquinass exposition of practical reason, analyzed in light of its first principles. We begin with the question of how an individual human being discovers what is good and bad for himself, which is at the root of natural law, that is, rationally grounded morality. This requires covering two distinct moments of Aquinass work: his treatment of synderesis and, after it, how the principles apprehended by synderesis relate to one another and what kind of knowledge they give to the human mind. It is argued that it is a mistake to see the first practical principles as normative in the deontological sense. Rather, they are directive, furnishing practical reason with the goods on whose possession human happiness depends. The implications of this reading for Aquinass ethics are then analyzed and his ethical stance emerges as strongly eudaimonistic.

RESUMO O envolvimento dos pais tem sido considerado como um dos determinantes do êxito escolar e da qualidade da aprendizagem. Um dos sentidos mais importantes em que se dá o envolvimento dos pais, por proporcionarem a melhoria no desempenho escolar dos filhos com insucesso, é a participação da família na vida escolar, por meio de uma relação de apoio e estímulo. O presente estudo tem como objetivo geral verificar e avaliar os efeitos de uma intervenção grupal com os pais sobre a relação destes com a escola e o desempenho escolar de seus filhos, em quatro grupos de pais de alunos com insucesso escolar. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em duas escolas públicas de Ensino Fundamental, de um Município do interior de São Paulo, sendo uma Municipal da região central, outra Estadual de periferia. A amostra total dos participantes foi de 235 pais de alunos candidatos ao sucesso e insucesso escolar, da 2ª e 3ª série de duas escolas públicas, composta por dois grupos-controle e um grupo de intervenção. O grupo-controle foi composto por 198 pais de alunos divididos em duas modalidades: grupo de pais de alunos candidatos ao sucesso escolar e grupo de pais de alunos candidatos ao insucesso escolar. O grupo de intervenção foi composto por 37 pais de alunos considerado como candidatos ao insucesso escolar, sendo 20 participantes da Escola Municipal, divididos em 10 pais para cada série, e 17 participantes da Escola Estadual, sendo 11 pais para o grupo da 2ª série e 6 para a 3ª série resultado da amostra final. Utilizamos como metodologia, a pesquisa qualitativa que teve como finalidade a coleta dos dados da intervenção com grupos na abordagem sociodramática, e a pesquisa quantitativa que objetivou a avaliação dos efeitos da intervenção. Para isto, foram aplicados o TDE e dois questionários padronizados, do tipo escala de Likert: dos Alunos e dos Pais. A análise dos dados qualitativos da intervenção nos permite evidenciar que a experiência que os pais obtiveram por meio do contexto grupal, parece ter sido a matriz para o desenvolvimento de novos relacionamentos com a escola, colaborando assim para o envolvimento. Essa experiência pode ser resumida na união e interação que o contexto grupal favoreceu aos pais; por meio da espontaneidade e não-diretividade vivenciada com a intervenção sociodramática. Ainda foi possível entender que o envolvimento dos pais parece alcançar uma maior profundidade, especialmente, para o rendimento escolar. As análises estatísticas dos resultados da aplicação, antes e depois da intervenção, do TDE e dos questionários padronizados, permitiram concluir que o envolvimento dos pais influenciou consideravelmente na aprendizagem do filho com insucesso escolar, sendo que para a Escola A, tais efeitos se mostraram estatisticamente significativos, enquanto para a Escola B, devido, sobretudo a diminuição no número de participantes, eles se mostraram de forma atenuada. A conclusão final é de que a opção por um delineamento quanti-quali foi de fundamental importância para revelar os efeitos e as singularidades dos acontecimentos promovidos pela intervenção. / ABSTRACT The involvement of parents has been regarded as one of the determinants of academic success and quality of learning. One of the most important way is the involvement of parents, by offering the improvement in scholastic performance of children with failure, and the participation of families in school life through a relationship of support and encouragement. The present study aims to check and evaluate the effects of an intervention group with parents about the relationship of these with the school and scholastic performance of their children, in four groups of parents of students with scholastic failure. The research was conducted in two public schools from elementary school, of a city in the interior of Sao Paulo, one in the central hall, another belongs to State in periphery. The total sample of participants was 235 parents of students applying to the success and failure at school, of the 2nd and 3rd series of two public schools, consisting of two groups-control and a group of intervention. The control group was composed of 198 parents of students divided in two ways: group of parents of students applying for scholastic success and group of parents of students applying for scholastic failure. The intervention group was composed of 37 parents of students considered candidates for the scholastic failure, with 20 participants of the School Hall, divided in 10 parents for each series, and 17 participants from the State School, 11 parents to the group of 2nd grade and 6 for the 3rd grade result of the final sample. We Used as a qualitative research methodology that was intended to collect the data of the intervention groups in the sociodramatic approach, and the quantitative research which aimed to assess the effects of the intervention. For this, the TDE were applied and two standardized questionnaires, like the type of Likert scale: of the Students and Parents. The analysis of qualitative data from the intervention that allows us to highlight the experience that parents obtained through the group, seems to have been the blueprint for the development of new relationships with the school, thus contributing to the engagement. This experience can be summed up in the union and the group interaction that helped parents; by spontaneity and not directivity experienced with sociodramatic intervention. Although it was possible to understand that the involvement of parents seems achieve greater depth, especially for scholastic efficiency. Statistical analysis of the results of the application, before and after the intervention of TDE and standardized questionnaires, have concluded that the involvement of parents in learning considerably influenced the learning school of children with scholastic failure , and that for School A, these effects were statistically significant, while for the School B, due primarily to decrease in the number of participants, they were so attenuated. The final conclusion is that the choice of a quantity-quality design was of fundamental importance to reveal the effects and singularities of the events promoted by the intervention.

A Comparison of Academic Performance and Progress Toward Graduation Between Presumptive-Deny and Regularly Admitted Students in a Large Public University

This study is concerned with the problem of measuring, describing, and analyzing the academic performance and progress toward graduation over a five-year period (1977- 1983) of students who entered a large public university through an admissions review committee process for presumptive-deny students. The purpose of this study is to compare the academic performance of these students (N = 310) with that of randomly selected students who entered through the regular admissions process (N = 350) to determine if the review committee's decisions were as effective in selecting students for admission as were the objective data (college entrance examination scores and rank in high school class) used in the regular admissions process. Neither transfer nor non-United States citizens were included in either group.

The Relationship of Selected Non-School Variables to the Decline of Scholastic Aptitude Test Scores

The purposes of this study were to investigate the impact of the following factors on the decline of average SAT scores between 1952 and 1981: (1) changes in composition of population of the SAT takers after 1963, (2) aggregate technological and social changes related to the scores in the years following 1970, and (3) selected economic factors in the period 1952 through 1981. Two models were used to test the hypotheses of this study. The dependent variables of each model were the SAT Verbal and Math scores. The independent variables of the study were two intervention variables that represented changes following 1963 and after 1970. Also, three economic variables were subjected to principal component analysis. These were changes in unemployment, Consumer Price Index (CPI), and real Gross National Product (GNP). The results were two factors: (1) Economic Instability (combination of unemployment and CPI), and (2) Economic Growth. These two factors were used as independent variables in addition to the interventions of 1963 and 1970. The interaction of these variables were calculated. The Box-Jenkins technique was used to generate residuals which were white noise (free from the confounding of autoregression, moving average, and trend or stochastic drift). Finally, hierarchical multilinear regression technique was used to analyze the white noise data of the study.

The problem with which this study is concerned is the identification of selected factors, prior to a student's admission into the nursing sequence, that may be related to the student's success in completing a baccalaureate nursing education. The purposes of the study were (1) to determine if there is a relationship between the reading ability of baccalaureate nursing students and their grades in their initial nursing course, (2) to determine if there are statistically significant differences in reading abilities among traditional groups and identified nontraditional nursing student subgroups (men, older students, blacks Hispanics, and others) of the population, and (3) to determine if prior educational experience (junior college, senior college, or a previous baccalaureate degree) is related to students' grades in the initial clinical course.

Med Study: The correlation between sport participation and scholastic results This research was performed to determine if there is a correlation between sport particiaption and scholastic outcomes, especially their academic results of high school students. The motivation theories and the influence of motivation on these outcomes were taken in consideration. The hypothesis that students who perform well in sport also perform well academically, has been the focus point of this research. The quantitative research method was used and two schools were randomly selected for this purpose. A sample of 200 scholars in the 1st and under 16A sport teams participated in this research. Some of the results are as follows: <ul> <li> The scholars that participated in sports outperformed their fellow students academically.</li> <li>The scholars that participated in sports spend more hours per week on sport as oppose to their studies.</li> <li>The most important motivational factor for participating in sport is for the love of the sport .</li> <li>The most important motivational factor for studying is that the scholars focus on their future.</li> This research concluded that there is a definitive correlation between sport and academic performance. Academic success in five programs in allied health at the British Columbia Institute of Technology

This study examined the nature and strength of relationship between specific related high school academic grades and the cumulative graduating average of students in five allied health programs at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Lack of scientific studies on selection criteria for determining the cumulative graduating average of allied health professionals at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (B.C.I.T.) was evident. Educators argue that in order to enhance educational opportunities for institute students, there is a professional obligation upon the policy-makers to gather appropriate data to determine which factors contribute to the success of the allied health student. With the high cost of technical education, admission officers and admissions committees are accountable for their selection processes to the institute's administration, decision makers, provincial and federal funding sources, and society. The results of this study may assist admissions officers in selecting academic variables that indicate the cumulative graduating average so that a better match can be made between the students and their performance in allied health programs. The accessible population of 629 graduates from the allied health technologies in this study were biomedical electronics, medical laboratory, medical radiography, nuclear medicine, and prosthetics and orthotics. The dependent variable measurement of academic achievement for these students was their cumulative graduating average. Single variables consisted of the grade point average of the following: pretechnology academic requirements, high school English, high school algebra, high school biology, high school chemistry, and high school physics. Descriptive statistics, zero-order correlations, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were the statistical methods employed to determine which specific academic variable or multiple of variables exhibited a strong relationship between the cumulative graduating average and academic variables. The analysis identified certain variables that strongly related to the cumulative graduating average, both singly and in combination with others. Each of the program significant combination of variables are provided here in order of descending influence: Biomedical Electronics Technology- high school algebra; Medical Laboratory Technology- the pretechnology grade point average, high school chemistry, biology, and algebra; Medical Radiography Technology- high school biology and chemistry; Nuclear Medicine- the pretechnology grade point average, high school chemistry, and high school biology; Prosthetics and Orthotics Technology- the pretechnology grade point average and high school chemistry. Academic variables did not account for more than 34% of the total variables in any of the programs. The level of significance for individual variables was the convention, 0.05. Clearly, each program had its own character; however, the performance of students in the natural sciences were significant in four of the five programs. An attempt was made to investigate which specific high school subjects correlated highly with the cumulative graduating average of students at the B.C.I.T. through a inspection of five programs for five graduating classes. Relevant variables were identified that were indicative of academic achievement in each specific program of study. Investigating the nature and strength of relationship between preprofessional grades and the cumulative graduating average of allied health students at B.C.I.T. could benefit both students and admissions officers by supplying a piece to an educational puzzle that would demystify the selection process.
