jz Vibrational spectroscopic studies and DFT calculations on NaCH₃CO₂(aq) and CH₃COOH(aq)Rudolph, Wolfram W., Fischer, Dieter, Irmer, Gert 02 September 2020 (has links)
Aqueous solutions of sodium acetate, NaCH₃CO₂, and acetic acid, CH₃COOH, were studied using Raman and infrared spectroscopy. The spectra were recorded over a large concentration range, in the terahertz region and up to 4000 cmˉ¹. In the isotropic Raman spectrum in R-format, a polarized band at 189 cmˉ¹ was assigned to the υ₁Na–O stretch of the hydrated Na⁺-ion and a shoulder at 245 cmˉ¹ to the restricted translation band, υsO–H⋯O* of the hydrated acetate ion, CH₃CO₂ˉ(aq). The CH₃CO₂ˉ(aq) and the hydrated acetic acid, CH₃COOH(aq), possess pseudo Cs symmetry. Geometrical parameters for the species in the gas phase and for CH₃CO₂ˉ(aq) and CH₃COOH(aq) are reported. Characteristic bands for CH₃CO2ˉ(aq) and CH₃COOH(aq) were assigned under the guidance of the DFT vibrational frequency calculations and discussed in detail. In aqueous NaCH₃CO₂ solutions, at high concentrations, no contact ion pairs could be detected, but instead solvent separated ion pairs were found. In LiCH₃CO₂(aq), however, contact ion pairs are formed which is indicated by the appearance of a shoulder at 939 cmˉ¹ and the shift of the symmetric stretching mode of the –CO₂ˉ group to higher wavenumbers.

The work presented in the framework of this doctoral thesis concerns the problem of the tarpaulins tearing off of semi-trailers conveyed by the motorways network. Indeed, the turbulent phenomena generated around such a convoy cause large pressure fluctuations on the walls, resulting in high amplitude movements leading to breakage over long periods of stress. This phenomenon can cause several types of incidents for the operator of the network (ignition by catenary contact, train delay, loss of goods,...), it is necessary to understand the physical phenomena involved and to define a flow control solution that take into account the rail industry constraints. To do this, an experimental and numerical study of the flow around a two-dimensional forward facing step configuration was carried out in order to characterize the influence of the different separated zones on the wall pressure fluctuations induced downstream of the step. For this purpose, a series of velocity field and wall pressure measurements were carried out in the Lamih wind tunnel. The experimental results could be compared with those obtained by a numerical approach under the same conditions. The flow analysis focused mainly on two points. The first concerns the dynamics of the recirculation zones interacting with the shear layer. A stochastic approach has been used, and has made it possible to highlight the dominant mechanisms at the origin of the phenomenon. The second point concerns the dynamical links between these mechanisms and the wall pressure fluctuations. A modal approach, based on an extended orthogonal decomposition, revealed the important contribution of the low frequencies in this case. Finally, a passive control solution (deflector) was tested and showed that the low frequency mechanisms suppression provide a wall pressure gain up to 36 % depending on configurations.

”IBLAND DU KÄNNER SKÄMS ATT FRÅGA SÅDANA SAKER” : EN KVALITATIV STUDIE I NYANLÄNDA TJEJERS SYN PÅ SKOLANS UNDERVISNING KRING OSKULDSNORMERLisa, Palm January 2021 (has links)
Palm.L ”Sometimes you feel shame to ask such questions” A qualitative study of a group of female newly arrived refugees view on education of virginity norms in school. Master thesis (sexology) 30 hp. Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Social Work, January 2021. The aim of this study is to gain an understanding of how a group of female newly arrived refugees wish that the school teach, discuss and give information concerning virginity and virginity norms in a school context. The study focuses on virginity norms hence they constitute a central part of the honour-related violence. Previous studies indicate that there is a strong connection between virginity norms and honour-related violence and oppression and that the preventive work against that could be dealt with in school. Both professionals who meet female refugees as well as researchers, highlight the importance of cultural knowledge when talking about sex and reproduction. Furthermore, recently made surveys indicate that virginity norms are affecting adolescents negative. The data in this study was collected through focus-group discussions with three different ethnically homogeneous groups. The study uses Foucault’s theories about discourse, power and cultural relativism. The results of this study indicate that a cultural sensitive approach in the preventive work against honour-related violence and oppression is important. The informants wish that the information and discussions concerning virginity norms should be given in gender-separated groups by female professionals. The informants opinions concerning the methods used in giving such information does not entirely correlate with the material published by RFSU and Youmo. Despite some similarities, the informants in this study emphasizes their own cultural background, the impact of their religion and the sensitivity concerning topics like virginity and virginity norms.

An Experimental Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Separated Flows Over Bluff Bodies Using Quantitative Flow VisualizationVlachos, Pavlos P. 23 August 2000 (has links)
In order to study three-dimensional unsteady turbulent flow fields such as the wakes of bluff bodies, a Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV) system was developed. This system allows non-intrusive two-dimensional and time varying velocity measurements. Software and hardware modifications necessary to enhance the capabilities of the system were preformed, resulting in increased frequency resolution. However, due to hardware limitations and limitations inherited from the implementation of the method, space resolution is reduced. Subsequently, digital image processing tools to improve the space resolutions were developed. The advantages and limitations of the method for the study of turbulent flows are presented in detail.
The developed system is employed in the documentation of time-varying turbulent flow fields. Initially we study the spanwise variation of the near wake of a low-aspect ratio, surface-mounted, circular cylinder piercing a free surface. The asymmetry of the end conditions combined with the natural unsteadiness of the vortex shedding generates a very complex flow filed which is difficult to study with conventional methods. By employing the aforementioned system we are able to reveal a departure of the two-dimensional character of the flow in the form of oblique vortex shedding. The effect of free surface on the vortex formation length and on the vortex reconnection process is documented. Near the free surface the alternate mode of vortex shedding is suppressed, leading to simultaneous shedding of vortices in the wake. Indications of vortex dislocations and change of the vortex axis in order to reconnect to the free surface are observed. Finally, a novel approach of reconstructing the three-dimensional, time -varying volume of the flow field by obtaining simultaneous measurements of Laser Doppler Velocimetry and Particle Image Velocimetry planes is presented.
The same field is investigated with focus on the streamwise structures. Three-dimensional streamwise vortical structures are known to exist due to instabilities of plane shear layers. Similar streamwise vortices, also known as braid vortices have been observed in the past in the wake of circular cylinders with symmetric boundary conditions. The present spatio-temporal analysis demonstrated coexistence of two types of streamwise vortices in the wake, bilge and braid type of vortices. These may be due to the three dimensionality introduced by the free surface. In addition, the sufficient time resolution allowed the detection of the primary Von-Karman vortex through a plane of interrogation normal to the free stream, thus revealing the spanwise variation of the vortex shedding and its evolution at different downstream stations.
The combination of the effect of the asymmetric boundary conditions with a free surface is investigated by adding one more source of three-dimensionality in terms of inclination of the cylinder axis. Hydrogen-bubble and particle-flow visualizations are preformed in combination with Laser-Doppler Velocimetry measurements. From both qualitative and quantitative results the effects of inclination and Froude number are documented. It is proved that the vortex shedding is suppressed for high values of the Froude number, however the inclination counteracts the vortex suppression and favors the vortex shedding mechanism. In addition, in the region of the no-slip boundary condition the flow is dominated by the effect of the horseshoe vortex.
The case of a three-dimensional separated flow over a surface-mounted prism is investigated using a modified version of the system. The character of the separated from the leading edge corner shear layer and the formed separation bubble are documented in space and time along the mid-plane of symmetry of the body. Three different flows corresponding to different Reynolds numbers are studied. The unsteadiness of the flow is presented indicating a pseudo-periodic character. Large-scale, low-frequency oscillations of the shear layer that have been observed in the past using point measurement methods are now confirmed by means of a whole field velocity measurement, technique allowing a holistic view of the flow. In addition, the unsteadiness of the point of reattachment is associated with the flapping of the shear layer and the shedding of vorticity in the wake. Finally, it is demonstrated that the apparent vortex shedding mechanism of such flows is dependent on the interaction of the primary vortex of the separation bubble with a secondary vortex formed by the separation of the reverse flow boundary layer. By performing measurements with such time and space resolution the inadequacy of time averaged or point measurement methods for the treatment of such complex and unsteady flow fields becomes evident.
In final case we employ Particle-Image Velocimetry to show the effect of unsteady excitation on two-dimensional separated flow over a sharp edged airfoil. It is proved that such an approach can be used to effectively control and organize the character of the flow, potentially leading to lift increase and drug reduction of bluff bodies / Ph. D.

Instationnarités en écoulements décollés supersoniqueAgostini, Lionel 09 December 2011 (has links)
Separated flow are often strongly unsteady; the aim of this thesis is to localize and identify the sources of the unsteadiness and to understand the physical phenomena governing the information transfer from these source zones to the rest of the flow. To do this, data used for this analysis have been obtained from numerical simulations (LES). Both cross-correlation and coherence between shock motion and pressure fluctuations have shown that the interaction can be split in several distinct zones. The theory of characteristics is used to define the information paths and the propagation velocities, so that the space-time links between these regions have been determined. Both numerical and experimental studies have clearly shown that phenomena present within the recirculation buble govern the whole of the interaction, at low and intermediate frequencies. Indeed the shock motions appears as the mirror of phenomena present in the separated zone. An inviscid equivalent scenario has been proposed to represent the interaction.

Fenômeno de transição espacial do escoamento óleo pesado-água no padrão estratificado / Phenomenon of spatial transition in stratified heavy oil-water flow patternCastro, Marcelo Souza de 27 June 2013 (has links)
The stratified oil-water flow pattern is of common occurrence in the petroleum industry, especially in offshore directional wells and pipelines. Previous studies have shown that the phenomenon of flow pattern transition in stratified flow can be related to the interfacial wave structure (problem of hydrodynamic instability). The transition from stratified flow to stratified with mixture at the interface has been studied by several authors and the physics behind the phenomenon has been already explained, basically by the tearing of droplets from the interfacial wave crest. Techniques based on a temporal analysis of the hydrodynamic stability for the proposition of transition criteria are often found in the literature. However, at certain inlet flow conditions, it was observed that the flow pattern changes along the test line. The flow enters the test line as wavy stratified flow and then, several diameters from the pipe inlet, the transition to elongated-bubbles flow occurs. It was also observed that the location where the transition occurs also changes depending on the phases superficial velocities. It seems that this phenomenon occurs due to interfacial tension and contact angle effects. The one-dimensional two-fluid model, linear stability theory (spatial approach) and experimental data of the interfacial wave properties are used to study the flow and a new transition criterion based on the wave celerity is proposed. The stratified-flow spatial transition occurred outside the region delimitated as stable by the linear theory; so nonlinear effects are prominent. The method of characteristics was used as an attempt to predict the point in space at which the transition occurs. The experimental work was done at the experimental facility of the Thermal-fluids Engineering Laboratory; experimental data allowed a new oil-water flow map and interfacial wave properties were acquired. The agreement between data and prediction is encouraging.
