Couplage entre modèles diphasiques à « phases séparées » et à « phase dispersée » pour la simulation de l’atomisation primaire en combustion cryotechnique / Coupling between separated and dispersed two-phase flow models for the simulation of primary atomization in cryogenic combustionLe Touze, Clément 03 December 2015 (has links)
Two-phase flows play a significant role for the proper functioning of cryogenic liquid-propellant rocketengines, such as those that equip the launchers of the Ariane family. Since the experimental investigationof such propulsion devices is complex and expensive, developing numerical tools able to accuratelysimulate their functioning, is a crucial but nonetheless ambitious objective. The major difficulty is due tothe multiscale nature of the problem, as a result of which there is currently no numerical approach ableto perfectly describe all the liquid scales on its own. Based on this observation the work presented in thisthesis aims at setting up a coupling strategy between models well-adapted to each two-phase flowtopology, in the framework of the ONERA’s multiphysics CEDRE software. The approach adoptedprecisely consists in coupling a 4-equation diffuse interface model for the separated phases and aeulerian kinetic model for the dispersed phase, thus making it possible to describe primary atomization.Besides, the harsh conditions within cryogenic rocket engines, where large temperature, velocity anddensity gradients are encountered, severely challenge the robustness of numerical methods. A newmultislope MUSCL method for general unstructured meshes is thus developed in order to improve therobustness and accuracy of space discretization schemes. The whole coupling strategy is finally appliedto the numerical simulation of the ONERA’s Mascotte test bench for cryogenic combustion research.

Numerical solution of Sturm–Liouville problems via Fer streamersRamos, Alberto Gil Couto Pimentel January 2016 (has links)
The subject matter of this dissertation is the design, analysis and practical implementation of a new numerical method to approximate the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of regular Sturm–Liouville problems, given in Liouville’s normal form, defined on compact intervals, with self-adjoint separated boundary conditions. These are classical problems in computational mathematics which lie on the interface between numerical analysis and spectral theory, with important applications in physics and chemistry, not least in the approximation of energy levels and wave functions of quantum systems. Because of their great importance, many numerical algorithms have been proposed over the years which span a vast and diverse repertoire of techniques. When compared with previous approaches, the principal advantage of the numerical method proposed in this dissertation is that it is accompanied by error bounds which: (i) hold uniformly over the entire eigenvalue range, and, (ii) can attain arbitrary high-order. This dissertation is composed of two parts, aggregated according to the regularity of the potential function. First, in the main part of this thesis, this work considers the truncation, discretization, practical implementation and MATLAB software, of the new approach for the classical setting with continuous and piecewise analytic potentials (Ramos and Iserles, 2015; Ramos, 2015a,b,c). Later, towards the end, this work touches upon an extension of the new ideas that enabled the truncation of the new approach, but instead for the general setting with absolutely integrable potentials (Ramos, 2014).

Statistical inference for joint modelling of longitudinal and survival dataLi, Qiuju January 2014 (has links)
In longitudinal studies, data collected within a subject or cluster are somewhat correlated by their very nature and special cares are needed to account for such correlation in the analysis of data. Under the framework of longitudinal studies, three topics are being discussed in this thesis. In chapter 2, the joint modelling of multivariate longitudinal process consisting of different types of outcomes are discussed. In the large cohort study of UK north Stafforshire osteoarthritis project, longitudinal trivariate outcomes of continuous, binary and ordinary data are observed at baseline, year 3 and year 6. Instead of analysing each process separately, joint modelling is proposed for the trivariate outcomes to account for the inherent association by introducing random effects and the covariance matrix G. The influence of covariance matrix G on statistical inference of fixed-effects parameters has been investigated within the Bayesian framework. The study shows that by joint modelling the multivariate longitudinal process, it can reduce the bias and provide with more reliable results than it does by modelling each process separately. Together with the longitudinal measurements taken intermittently, a counting process of events in time is often being observed as well during a longitudinal study. It is of interest to investigate the relationship between time to event and longitudinal process, on the other hand, measurements taken for the longitudinal process may be potentially truncated by the terminated events, such as death. Thus, it may be crucial to jointly model the survival and longitudinal data. It is popular to propose linear mixed-effects models for the longitudinal process of continuous outcomes and Cox regression model for survival data to characterize the relationship between time to event and longitudinal process, and some standard assumptions have been made. In chapter 3, we try to investigate the influence on statistical inference for survival data when the assumption of mutual independence on random error of linear mixed-effects models of longitudinal process has been violated. And the study is conducted by utilising conditional score estimation approach, which provides with robust estimators and shares computational advantage. Generalised sufficient statistic of random effects is proposed to account for the correlation remaining among the random error, which is characterized by the data-driven method of modified Cholesky decomposition. The simulation study shows that, by doing so, it can provide with nearly unbiased estimation and efficient statistical inference as well. In chapter 4, it is trying to account for both the current and past information of longitudinal process into the survival models of joint modelling. In the last 15 to 20 years, it has been popular or even standard to assume that longitudinal process affects the counting process of events in time only through the current value, which, however, is not necessary to be true all the time, as recognised by the investigators in more recent studies. An integral over the trajectory of longitudinal process, along with a weighted curve, is proposed to account for both the current and past information to improve inference and reduce the under estimation of effects of longitudinal process on the risk hazards. A plausible approach of statistical inference for the proposed models has been proposed in the chapter, along with real data analysis and simulation study.

Obtenção e caracterização de Minced Fish de sardinha e sua estabilidade durante a estocagem sob congelamento / Obtaining and characterization of Minced Fish sardines and its stability during storage under freezingCristiane Rodrigues Pinheiro Neiva 06 June 2003 (has links)
The potentiality of fish\'s utilization as minced fish - MF is very high, actually turning into a raw material to other products. The sardine\'s MF was evaluated according to its yield, the washing effect improving the color, its chemical characteristic and chemical and sensorial stability, during frozen storage under -17,-18°C. The yield of sardine\'s MF washed in with water, was 55% related to the whole fish and close to the theoretic yield of eatable portion. The MF\'s washing in water or in water plus sodium bicarbonate provide a product with clearer and more desirable color. Related to the chemical basic composition, sardine\'s MF washed in water, presented better hydration and lower ashes contents than its control, and similar quantity of protein and lipids. Compared to the control, the sardine\'s MF washed in water, had not presented any difference related to the fatty acids profile and pH, that had not happened with the nitrogen of volatile bases - N-BVT, which had been decreased, and the thiobarbituric acid reactant substances - TBARS, that had been increased. The sardine\'s MF washed in water, containing or not added antioxidants, was chemical and sensorial stable when maintained frozen, based on parameters as pH, N-BVT, TBARS, rancidity odor, and color, stored for 26 weeks. The results of this work are propitious to the possibility of achieving sardine\'s MF washed in water, and your utilization as a raw material to others seafoods.

Návrhové prvky turbo-okružních křižovatek / Design elements turbo-roundaboutsSmělý, Martin Unknown Date (has links)
Dissertation describes new methodology of design turbo-roundabouts in Czech Republic. Especially innovative is approach to the design of traffic lanes with regards to standard vehicles and widening of traffic lanes according to their dimensions. Innovative is also approach to road signs, where details of current signs are modified, however, these details are important for drivers’ better understanding while driving through turbo-roundabouts. Dissertation fills legislative, but also technical, blank spot during turbo-roundabouts design and I believe that it will benefit particularly designers of these intersections.

Hybridní směsi na bázi recyklovaných plastů / Hybrid Blends of Recycled PlasticsČerný, Miroslav January 2017 (has links)
Work describes the relationship between structure and mechanical properties in case of hybrid mixtures. They are composed from polyurethane matrices (eventually polyurethane-urea or polyurethane-inorganic filler mixtures), different rubber fractions as filler and eventually reinforcement made from PET monofilaments. Mechanical behaviour was studied by tensile testing. Studied mechanical properties include tensile modulus, ultimate strength and strain and also specific energy need neccessary for ultimate strength achievement. Prepared materials are naturally porous. Therefore their mechanical behaviour has to be described generally for porous composites. The porosity occurence means, that it is difficult to describe them by models valid for mechanical behaviour (mainly elastic modulus) of nonporous composites. Models are also based on idealized structures on microscopic level. In case of porous composites, it is very difficult to create any idealized structure. The structure is changed with modifications of composition (change of components or their rates). These conditions have lead to utilizing of different approach how to describe the relationship between structure and mentioned mechanical properties. The chosen approach comes from knewledge about structural parametres coming from porosity. Structural parameters describe the structure on macroscopic level. They include interspace volume (volume lying between filler particles), interspace filling (how the matrix fills the interspace volume) and matrix volume fraction. Proposed parameters are used in relations, where they are fitted by exponents to interlay values of chosen mechanical properties for composites containing discrete matrix and filler. Found exponents are then described by properties of matrices to obtain relations describing properties of filled porous materials. Very similar approach was chosen for description in the case of reinforced composites. Proposed relation are potentially valid for materials containing binding matrix, infinity count of fillers and one kind of reinforcement.

Contribution à la modélisation eulérienne unifiée de l’injection : de la zone dense au spray polydispersé / Contribution to a unified Eulerian modeling of fuel injection : from dense liquid to polydisperse sprayEssadki, Mohamed 13 February 2018 (has links)
Direct fuel injection systems are widely used in combustionengines to better atomize and mix the fuel withthe air. The design of new and efficient injectors needsto be assisted with predictive simulations. The fuel injectionprocess involves different two-phase flow regimesthat imply a large range of scales. In the context of thisPhD, two areas of the flow are formally distinguished:the dense liquid core called separated phases and thepolydisperse spray obtained after the atomization. Themain challenge consists in simulating the combinationof these regimes with an acceptable computational cost.Direct Numerical Simulations, where all the scales needto be solved, lead to a high computational cost for industrialapplications. Therefore, modeling is necessaryto develop a reduced order model that can describe allregimes of the flow. This also requires major breakthroughin terms of numerical methods and High PerformanceComputing (HPC).This PhD investigates Eulerian reduced order models todescribe the polydispersion in the disperse phase andthe gas-liquid interface in the separated phases. First,we rely on the moment method to model the polydispersionin the downstream region of the flow. Then,we propose a new description of the interface by usinggeometrical variables. These variables can provide complementaryinformation on the interface geometry withrespect to a two-fluid model to simulate the primary atomization. The major contribution of this work consistsin using a unified set of variables to describe the tworegions: disperse and separated phases. In the case ofspherical droplets, we show that this new geometricalapproach can degenerate to a moment model similar toEulerian Multi-Size Model (EMSM). However, the newmodel involves fractional moments, which require somespecific treatments. This model has the same capacityto describe the polydispersion as the previous Eulerianmoment models: the EMSM and the multi-fluid model. But, it also enables a geometrical description of the interface...].

How the cost of delay hours are affected by reconstructing to 2+2-roads in relation to the investment costHamadi, Farah, Wallin, Viktor January 2019 (has links)
From the late 1990s, a large part of the non-separated 13-meter-wide roads have been reconstructed into meeting separated roads, where traffic in each direction is separated by a middle strip. Meeting separated roads have been a very successful project for road safety and have contributed to a large reduction in severely injured and casualties in traffic. There are many meeting separated roads in Sweden. In the case of accidents on 2+1-roads, it becomes difficult for the traffic to turn around on the road, which leads to a stop and makes it difficult for the emergency services and tow trucks to reach the scene of the accident. These accidents lead to delay hours and, in turn, to community costs. This thesis is written for the Swedish Transport Administration to review 2+1 roads in the Swedish Transport Administration’s Region East. The report produces and compares the reduction of delay costs after rebuilding a road from 2+1- to 2+2-standard, the report also presents and compares the delay cost with the investment cost for the reconstruction. This study is based on literature studies, analysis of data from the “Traffic Management”, internet-based programs and through the use of Microsoft Excel for calculating delay hours and -costs for selected roads and routes. The result of the report shows whether it is worth investigating in a reconstruction from 2+1- to 2+2-road from delay cost perspective. This is presented through a general comparison per Scandinavian mile of 2+1-road based on roads 50, 55 and 56 in the Swedish Transport Administration’s Region East. The report also contains an analysis of the five most affected accident sites on the E18's 2+1-routes. The analysis of these accident sites showed that all five were between Köping and Västerås in Västmanland county.

Camp Suzanne: A Qualitative Case Study on Attachment Theory and Longevity Considerations for an Art Therapeutic Program for Incarcerated Mothers and their ChildrenPalm, Noelle, Falcon, Kaylee 01 April 2018 (has links) (PDF)
A qualitative study of the experiences and observations of 4 art therapists and 2 program directors who facilitated Camp Suzanne, a week-long art-based therapeutic program for incarcerated mothers and their children in a federal prison in California. Research on psychotherapy, art therapy, and family therapy in prison environments, with a focus on parent-child dyads, Attachment Theory, and various techniques for creating sustainable therapy with separated family units, including tele-mental health and evidence-based military protocols, informed the interviews. The research participants were interviewed individually and created art regarding the subjects of Attachment Theory with incarcerated-mother-child dyads and longevity considerations for the program. Emergent themes in the data included the impact of art-making on attachment and a variety of observable attachment styles, as well as obstacles to both attachment and longevity of Camp Suzanne. Some of the obstacles addressed include systemic challenges, continuity of care, location concerns, external support (for facilitators and for incarcerated-mother-child dyads), as well as preparatory support (psychoeducation). Various implications of these obstacles are discussed.
