Viabilidade técnica do reaproveitamento da maravalha de forma integral na produção de painéis de partículas / Technical viability of particleboards made of whole wood shavings

Silva, Vitor Uemura da 04 February 2019 (has links)
Wood processing generates huge amounts of solid residues throughout its commercial cycle from silviculture to sawn-wood production, and the destination given to such residues is influenced by: the existence of a local market capable of absorbing it; existence of a recycling culture; technology available to transform the material into other products or energy to be imputed back to the production process; and other factors. The main trend in Brazil follows two distinct lines, in which the residues are sometimes discarded in natura or even burned without any regards to energy that is being wasted, or the residues are used to energy production. Besides being a good alternative, incinerating the residues to produce energy may not be the best way to deal with them since the carbon stored in the wood is released back to the atmosphere, and this action doesn\'t conform to the national policy on solid residues which prioritizes recycling of the material. Raw wood shavings from Pinus taeda, Pinus elliottii and Eucalyptus urograndis were used to produce the particleboards, they were collected from the sawmill floor and used without any processing to regulate the particle dimension, they were only divided into Pinusand Eucalyptus; two polyurethane and one urea-formaldehyde resin were chosen to be part of the experiment. Besides the usual tests suggested by the standards, this research also evaluated the particleboards on surface roughness, spectrophotometry, heat conduction, percentage of pores and electronic microscopy. Technical viability of the particleboards was confirmed by the tests applied, with a few refinements to be considered in order to adequate the particleboard to the final application.

Monitoring of biogas production from tannery solid wastes at-line in a laboratory-scale anaerobic digester

Agustini, Caroline B., Da Costa, M., Gutterres, M., Pena, A. C. C. 26 June 2019 (has links)
Content: The understanding of how chemical, physical and environmental parameters work during anaerobic digestion production and waste treatment is an important step in improving the efficiency and process stability. This study provides the evolution of the biogas production and the efficiency of the treatment of the anaerobic digestion of solid wastes of tanneries at-line monitored in batch laboratory-scale bioreactors. Leather shavings and sludge from wastewater treatment plants substrates were considered in the study. The findings suggest that AD of the tannery solid waste can be separated into three phases: a long lag phase, a log phase with a low metabolic rate and the final phase where all the shavings were metabolized. Take-Away: The AD of the tannery solid waste can be separated into three phases: a long lag phase, a log phase with a low metabolic rate and the final phase where all the shavings were metabolized

Use of different pre-treated chromium leather shavings to produce biogas in continuous scale

Gomes, Carolina S., Repke, J.-U., Meyer, M. 28 June 2019 (has links)
Content: Leather goods are noble and sustainable but leather production may bear a potential for pollution. During leather manufacture high amounts of chromium shavings, wet by-products of the leather industry, are produced worldwide. Due to their chromium content they are disposed in landfill sites worldwide leading to long lasting environmental problems. They are stable towards temperatures of up to 110 °C and enzymatic degradation, preventing anaerobic digestion in a biogas plant. This stability is due to the three-dimensional native structure, typical for collagen, and additional chemical cross-links between the collagen fibers achieved by Cr3+ salts in the tanning step in tanneries. Therefore, hitherto chromium shavings are not utilized industrially to produce biogas. In order to ease enzymatic degradation, necessary to produce biogas, a previous denaturation of the native structure has to be carried out. Otherwise, the generation of biogas is hindered. In our projects, shavings were pre-treated thermally and mechanically by extrusion and hydrothermal methods. In previous works, we studied intensively the use of these shavings to produce biogas in batch scale and significant improvement was reached when using pre-treated shavings. In this work, a scale-up of the process was performed in a continuous reactor using pre-treated and untreated shavings to examine the feasibility of the considered method. Measuring different parameters along the anaerobic digestion, namely organic matter and volatile fatty acids content, it was possible to show that a higher loading rate can be used when feeding the reactor with pre-treated shavings instead of untreated shavings, which means a more economical process in an industrial scenario. Take-Away: The use of a pre-treatment improves the biogas production from chromium shavings

The biogas processes are well resolved commercially in Brazil. However, the heterogeneity of the agroindustrial effluents demand better understanding, especially of dairy cattle. The selected farm for effluent collects does a primary treatment by means of an extruder, before the digestion process, who turns out to generate a pasty material composed primarily of wood shavings. In that context, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of wood shavings, used as bedding for the cows lactating and the production of biogas, thus, to understand the behavior of the effluent before and after the extrusion process were outlined four treatments: raw effluent, without any separation process (T1); extruded liquid effluent (T2); paste extruded effluent (T3); and white control, with only inoculum (T4). The samples were collected the months of May and April and sent to the lab CIbiogás-ER, called Labiogás where analyzed: Volatile Solids (SV); Total solids (TS); pH; maximum production of biogas and methane; and specific production of biogas and methane, by the method of German VDI 4630 (2006) in eudiômetros batch for 31 days. The results indicated that the T1 predominantly had better results than the other treatments except for the maximum production of biogas and methane, in which T3 had 94% more efficiency compared to T1, T2 and T4 to 99%, with maximum production of biogas 0,054m³ / kg substrate and 0,030m³ / kg for methane, pointing to the ability of wood shavings to absorb nutrients Essential to the process of anaerobic digestion. There were differences (P <0.05) between treatments for maximum biogas production and 99.4% was delimited the adjusted multiple linear regression model Y=13,499 + 63,256*ST + 20,485*SV - 459,234*Rend. + 485,772*Prod. That can be used in the prediction results.

Horse respiratory diseases is second most commom cause of poor performance and premature retirement, which the one are musculoskeletal disorders. The stabling and poor quality feedings may the favor predispose of diseases in airways. In order we measure the influence of the types of bedding used in the horse stalls about responses allergic airway. Three groups of five horses each are formated, two groups kept in stables but each group with a different type of bedding (autoclaved wood- MA shaving and sawdust-SE) . The third group is the control and stays at pasture. The groups remained in this condition for 45 days with biweekly reviews (D0, D15, D30 and D45). It was realize the physical examination, venous and arterial blood samples collection to realize hemogram and hemogasometry analysis, the bronchoalveolar lavage samples was colected to realize the cytological analysis and to measure alkaline phosphatase. In addition, samples of the beds (clean and dirty) and haylage was collected to realize mycological analysis. In the physical examination was noticed higher intensity of coughing and sneezing at SE group. Hematological analysis remained within the normal standards. Findings of hemogasometric analysis were observed the biggest pH values at horses to pasture (7.47 ± 0.02). At stables horses was observed smaller values of partial pressure dioxide (D15 to D45), (values between 38.3 to 43.7 mmHg) to horses to pasture (values between 43.7 to 46.5 mmHg). The values oxygen partial pressure it was inversely proportional to partial pressure dioxide (MA and SE: values between 103.6 to 127.78 mmHg and pasture: 88.2 to 103.6 mmHg). It was observate higher values of nucleated cells of bronchoalveolar lavage, at all times, in animals to pasture (251.0 to 336.8 x 103 / mL), followed by the SE group (197.0 to 248.6 x 103 / mL) and finally MA group (140.6 to 270.2 x 103 / mL). The macrophages cells represented the biggest percentage of nucleates cells on bronchoalveolar lavage followed by lymphocytes (51.2 to 80.8% and 6.6 to 33.2% respectively). An unexpected pattern was observed in percentange of neutrophils cells, that it was a decrease over the time. One exception it was with MA group that had the biggest percentage values in D30 (35%), it was related to alkaline phosphatase peak at same time (27.6 ± 14.98 IU / L). Were identified about 12 fungi genres in both beds and 17 fungi genres at haylage. We indentified pathogenic genres in haylage as Aspergillus (0.85 ± 2.2%), Fusarium (5.35 ± 9.23%) and Penicillium (4 , 81 ± 9.53%), however in lower percentages. It was observate a difference production capacity and fine particle dispersion between the bed, that the biggest it was notice at sawdust (MA: 15.29% and SE: 18.28%). It was concluded that wood shavings bed is easier to use and showed less irritative capacity upper airway to que sawdust. As management and stabling conditions used were ideals and it was a ideal model of stables.

Effect of Plant-Based Filtration and Bio-Treatment on Toxicity of Bio-Oil Process Water

Moghbeli, Toktam 11 May 2013 (has links)
This study evaluated physical and biological treatments of bio-oil process water to decrease organic contaminants. A three-sequential-column filtration system compared four treatments: three columns filled with kenaf only; three columns filled with wood shavings only; first column filled with wood shavings and two with kenaf; and first column filled with kenaf and two with wood shavings. The kenaf and wood shavings were composted after filtration. The filtrate water underwent further bio-treatment by adding aeration and selected bacteria. After filtration and bio-treatment, oil and grease concentrations were reduced over 80 percent and toxicity reduced over 90 percent. There were no significant differences among filtration treatments. Most of the oil and grease was removed by the first column. Aeration significantly decreased the concentration of oil and grease and toxicity in the filtrate water. Composting of the bioiltration matrices significantly reduced the oil and grease concentrations at day 45 by 80 percent.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao_Gabriel_Almeida.pdf: 2251762 bytes, checksum: f48973cb39ff1566f7617f9742859cc5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-04-25 / A trial was conducted to evaluate earthworm composting as an alternative for treating a mixture of bovine manure, wood shavings and rice hull ash, in order to produce an organic fertilizer. The fertilizer might be sold, becoming an alternative income for dairy cattle producers and reducing the environmental impact of dairy cattle activity, turning it into an environmental friendly and economic activity. Earthworm composting took place in 20 wood boxes (0.40m x 0.50m x 0.30m). Each box received 300 earthworms (Eisenia andrei). A total of five treatments with four replications were studied: T1 (100% bovine manure); T2 (50% bovine manure + 25% wood shavings + 25% rice hull ash); T3 (33% bovine manure + 33% wood shavings + 33% rice hull ash); T4 (25% bovine manure + 50% wood shavings + 25% rice hull ash); and T5 (25% bovine manure + 25% wood shavings + 50% rice hull ash). A completely randomized design was used. ANOVA was used for data analysis and the averages were compared by Tukey test at 5%. Humus samples were collected at day 45 and at the end of trial (day 60). The following variables were studied: pH, dry matter, ash, organic matter, carbon, nitrogen, C/N ratio, phosphorus, calcium, potassium and magnesium. Earthworm composting of pure bovine manure is an effective alternative for treating such dairy cattle production residue. The produced humus contains physical and chemical properties which allow it to be used as an organic fertilizer. However, the mixture of wood shavings and rice hull ash does not produce a good quality fertilizer, according to the current Brazilian legislation.

The following research work has been carried out with the purpose of analyzing the behavior of a concrete with coarse recycled aggregate, natural fine aggregate and adding steel chips with a percentage of 8%, 10% and 12% with respect to the aggregate and determining the increase of the resistance to compression, flexion and compression in each of the cases. The process begins by getting the materials; Recycled concrete, product of construction and demolition waste and steel shavings, product of mechanical process residues. Aggregates and Chips were tested in the laboratory for their characterization and used as input data to carry out the Mix design corresponding to each case. Having already the designs for the 4 cases, they were elaborated in 48 specimens, 12 for each design, in the Compression test, while in the Bending test 12 beams were developed and for the Tensile test 12 specimens were developed, making a total of 62 specimens, which will be analyzed at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of curing in order to determine the optimal percentage of addition of Steel Shavings and the Cost of Production of this, thus demonstrating that a efficient concrete at an economical price. / Tesis
