Ambas são artistas de extrema importância para a arte fotográfica contemporânea, possuem praticamente a mesma idade, vivem e trabalham na mesma cidade, escolheram a fotografia como forma de expressão, mas, apesar destas e outras semelhanças, possuem uma produção bem diferente a principio. Enquanto Sherman constrói ficções Goldin registra a realidade a sua volta. Sherman é uma artista que cria cenas, universos, se inserindo dentro destes através de personagens que ela mesma incorpora. A artista cria mundos de representações que abordam toda a cultura, em especial a feminina. Já Goldin trabalha de forma mais instantânea, registra o mundo ao seu redor, guardando momentos, às vezes mais banais, às vezes mais íntimos, dos que a rodeiam e de sua própria vida, tornando público o que antes era privado. Mesmo com processos de criação tão distintos, e com motivações e resultados diferentes, o trabalho das duas fotógrafas pode ser relacionado pela temática do universo feminino que ambos abordam, onde nos é apresentado a vida privada de várias mulheres, sejam elas reais ou ficcionais. Assim, essas produções são postas lado a lado, evidenciando que caminhos diferentes podem levar a um mesmo lugar / Abstract: This research proposes a study of the works of American photographers Cindy Sherman and Nan Goldin, specifically their work "Untitled Film Stills" and "The Ballad of Sexual Dependency", respectively. Both artists are extremely important for contemporary photographic art, have practically the same age, live and work in the same city, chose photography as a form of expression, but, spite of these and other similarities, have a production very different at first. While Sherman builds fictions Goldin registers reality around her. Sherman is an artist who creates scenes, universes, inserting themselves inside of those through personages which she herself incorporates. The artist creates worlds of representations addressing the whole culture, particularly of women. Already Goldin works more instantaneous, registers the world around them, keeping moments, sometimes more banal, sometimes more intimates, of those around her and of your own life, making public what was once private. Even with creative processes so distinct and different motivations and outcomes, the work of the two photographers can be related by the theme of feminine universe they both deal with, where is presented to us the private lives of several women, whether real or fictional. The purpose of the study is to approach the problem from a practical and workable angle in determining which definite and significant influences have been of benefit to the first-grade pupils of Sherman, Texas, in preparing them for reading readiness.

Sherman Alexie's work revolves around Native Americans—Native Americans who deal with problems such as poverty, alcoholism, transgenerational trauma, modern life, ethnic stereotyping, and institutionalized racism. His voice is thought-provoking, poignant, destabilizing, and also, absolutely funny. His unique approach to heavy political matters offers us a different way of resistance in which people laugh through their tears and maybe change how they react to the issues surrounding themselves. In this thesis, I offer an analysis of who Sherman Alexie is as an author in the United States. I also look into his importance for Turkey in terms of our issues of racism and our understanding of political humour, in hopes of influencing other destabilizing works through his translations. Later, I discuss how he is portrayed in the Turkish literary system by examining two of his translated books, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven (Çılgın Atı Düşlemek) and Reservation Blues (Kızılderiliye Yer Yok), through Lawrence Venuti's views on the foreignization and domestication methods in The Translator’s Invisibility: A History of Translation. Subsequently, I present my translation of "Lawyer's League", "Can I Get a Witness?", "Do Not Go Gentle" and "Flight Patterns" from Ten Little Indians as an alternative translation method. Finally, I analyse the foreignization method in relation to translating Sherman Alexie, before explaining my translation choices.

The Sherman Morrison iteration method is developed to solve regularized least squares problems. Notions of pivoting and splitting are deliberated on to make the method more robust. The Sherman Morrison iteration method is shown to be effective when dealing with an extremely underdetermined least squares problem. The performance of the Sherman Morrison iteration is compared to classic direct methods, as well as iterative methods, in a number of experiments. Specific Matlab implementation of the Sherman Morrison iteration is discussed, with Matlab codes for the method available in the appendix. / Master of Science

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current methods of teaching and the available science material for the teaching of elementary science in order to prepare a proposed plan of instruction for the seventh and eighth grades of Jefferson School for the 1941-1942 school year.

For the average person many opportunities for esthetic enjoyment of useful objects exist if the relationship between beauty and utility is understood. Furniture and other articles of daily use have acquired new and radical changes of design, based on function, which are altering esthetic concepts. This new approach to design is gradually being accepted by manufacturers and producers. Do purchasers appreciate and accept these structural and functional bases of contemporary design? If they do not, wherein does their deficiency lie, and how may it be corrected? This is the problem that the writer has attempted to investigate through this study.

The purpose of this study was to find what the philosophies and actual practices of the Sherman elementary teachers are; and how they practice or do not practice their philosophical concepts.
