Evitement de conflits aériens par une régulation subliminale en vitesse : modélisation & résolution via le contrôle optimal / Velocity-based aircraft conflict avoidance through optimal control model and solution approaches

À travers une approche de contrôle optimal, cette thèse de doctorat propose une étude des modèles et des techniques de résolution dans un domaine d'application propre à la gestion du trafic aérien. Motivés par la croissance des flux aériens d'une part, et les développements en théorie du contrôle optimal d'autre part, ces travaux portent sur l'analyse du problème d'évitement de conflits aériens. Cette étude permet le développement de nouvelles approches et algorithmes en vue d'aider les contrôleurs aériens dans leur tâche. Ainsi, dans le cadre du trafic aérien, afin de préserver des distances minimales de sécurité entre avions, lors de phases tactiques et de configurations des vols en-route, notre recherche se focalise sur une stratégie de régulation subliminale en vitesse (variations très réduites), pour assurer la séparation entre avions, tout en conservant leur trajectoire prédéfinie. D'une part, une méthode de résolution numérique en contrôle optimal telle que la méthode directe de tir, impliquant une discrétisation totale ou partielle du problème, transforme le problème initial en un problème en programmation non linéaire de grande taille. Ce type de méthodes peut générer des problèmes d'optimisation de grande taille numériquement di_ciles à résoudre. Suivant le nombre de variables du problème, elles peuvent s'avérer trop coûteuse en termes de temps de calculs. D'autre part, les contraintes sur les variables d'états du problème posent des di_cultés de résolution, par exemple, pour l'usage d'une méthode numérique indirecte de tir. Développant les informations caractéristiques des conflits aériens, une détection et une détermination a priori des zones de conflits permettent alors la décomposition du problème présenté de contrôle optimal en sous-problèmes plus aisés à résoudre. La résolution des sous-problèmes hors-zones peut être abordée en utilisant les conditions du principe du maximum de Pontryagin, ce qui en permet une résolution e_cace. Une combinaison de méthodes numériques directes de tir et d'application des conditions du principe du maximum de Pontryagin est proposée, et des implémentations numériques valident ce type d'approche. / The purpose of this doctoral thesis is to study models and solution techniques based on optimal control approaches to address air tra_c management problems. Motivated by the growth of air tra_c volume, and by the advances in optimal control theory, this research works focus on analysing aircraft conflict avoidance problem. This study allows development of new approaches and algorithms to help air tra_c controllers. In the framework of air tra_c management, to ensure the minimum safety distances between aircraft, in tactical phases and en-route flight configurations, this thesis focusses on a subliminal velocity regulation strategy to perform the separation, while preserving the aircraft predefined trajectories. A numerical optimal control solution approach as the direct shooting method, wherein involves a total or partial discretization of the problem, transforms the initial problem into a large scale nonlinear programming problem. This kind of methods could generate large-size optimization problems which are numerically di_cult to solve. Depending on the number of variables which involved, this approaches could be too expensive in terms of computation time. Moreover, the state-variables constraints of the problem lead to numerical di_culties, e.g., considering the indirect numerical shooting method. Tailored on aircraft conflict avoidance problems, a detection and a determination of a priori conflict zones allow the decomposition of the optimal control problem into sub-problems, easier to solve than the original one. Solving the o_-zones sub-problems can be addressed using the Pontryagin maximum principle, which allows in this case directly the solution. A combination of direct numerical shooting method and application of conditions of Pontryagin's maximum principle is proposed, and numerical experiments validate this approach.

Contrôle optimal géométrique : méthodes homotopiques et applications / Geometric optimal control : homotopic methods and applications

Le contexte de ce travail est le contrôle optimal géométrique appliqué à la mécanique céleste et au contrôle quantique. On s’est tout d’abord intéressé au problème de transfert orbital de satellite autour de la Terre à consommation minimale,qui amena à la réalisation du code HamPath, permettant tout d’abord la résolution de problème de contrôle optimal dont la loi de commande est lisse. Il se base sur le Principe du Maximum de Pontryagin (PMP) et sur la notion de point conjugué. Ce programme combine méthode de tir, méthodes homotopiques différentielles et calcul des conditions d’optimalité du deuxième ordre. Nous nous intéressons par la suite au contrôle quantique. On étudie tout d’abord le contrôle d’un système composé de deux types de particules de spin 1/2 ayant des temps de relaxation différents et dont la dynamique est gouvernée par les équations de Bloch. Ces deux sous-systèmes,correspondant aux deux types de particules, sont couplés par un même contrôle (un champ electromagnétique), le but étant alors d’amener la magnétisation des particules du premier type à zéro tout en maximisant celle du second (dans un système de coordonnées bien choisi). Ce modèle intervient en imagerie médicale par Résonance Magnétique Nucléaire et consiste à maximiser le contraste entre deux régions d’une même image. L’utilisation des outils géométriques et numériques aura permis de donner une très bonne synthèse sous-optimale pour deux cas particuliers (mélange sang oxygéné/désoxygéné et liquide cérébrospinal/eau). La dernière contribution de cette thèse porte sur l’étude d’un système quantique à deux niveaux d’énergie dontl a dynamique est régie par les équations de Lindblad. Le modèle est basé sur la minimisation d’énergie du transfert. On se restreint à un cas particulier pour lequelle Hamiltonien donné par le PMP est Liouville intégrable. On décrit alors les lieux conjugués et de coupure pour ce problème riemannien avec dérive / This work is about geometric optimal control applied to celestial and quantum mechanics. We first dealt with the minimum fuel consumption problem of transfering a satellite around the Earth. This brought to the creation of the code HamPath which permits first of all to solve optimal control problem for which the command law is smooth. It is based on the Pontryagin Maximum Principle (PMP) and on the notion of conjugate point. This program combines shooting method, differential homotopic methods and tools to compute second order optimality conditions. Then we are interested in quantum control. We study first a system which consists in two different particles of spin 1/2 having two different relaxation time. Both sub-systems are driven by the same control. The problem consists in bringing to zero the magnetization of one of the two system while maximizing the magnetization of the second one. This problem comes from constrast imaging in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and consists in maximising the contrast between two areas of the image. The use of geometrical and numerical tools has given a very precise sub-optimal synthesis for two particular cases (deoxygenated/oxygenated blood and cerebrospinal fluid/water cases). The last contribution of this thesis is about the Lindblad equations in the two-level case. The model is based upon the minimisation of the transfer energy. We restrict the study to a particular case for which the Hamiltonian given by the PMP is Liouville integrable.We describe the conjugate and cut loci for this Riemannian with drift problem

USING REINFORCEMENT LEARNING FOR ACTIVE SHOOTER MITIGATION

This dissertation investigates the value of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) within an agent-based model (ABM) of a large open-air venue. The intent is to reduce civilian casualties in an active shooting incident (ASI). There has been a steady increase of ASIs in the United States of America for over 20 years, and some of the most casualty-producing events have been in open spaces and open-air venues. More research should be conducted within the field to help discover policies that can mitigate the threat of a shooter in extremis. This study uses the concept of dynamic signage, controlled by a DRL policy, to guide civilians away from the threat and toward a safe exit in the modeled environment. It was found that a well-trained DRL policy can significantly reduce civilian casualties as compared to baseline scenarios. Further, the DRL policy can assist decision makers in determining how many signs to use in an environment and where to place them. Finally, research using DRL in the ASI space can yield systems and policies that will help reduce the impact of active shooters during an incident.

The subject of this project is a new building of a shooting range and lasergame arena in Brno, district Královo pole. The aim of the thesis is to create a documentation for realization of a shooting range and lasergame arena. It is a stand-alone two-storey building without the basement. The building is based on piled foundations, the construction system is reinforced concrete frame, infill material is light concrete brick. There is an exception: in the tunnel shooting range, there are monolithic reinforced concrete walls. The ceilings above the first floor are made also of reinforced concrete, the ceiling above the second floor / roof is made of pre-stressed reinforced concrete roof panels of spiroll type. There is flat, single-layer roof. The walls are designed as double-layered, contact-insulated with fiber-cement cladding.

Linearization Based Model Predictive Control of a Diesel Engine with Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Variable-Geometry Turbocharger

Engine control systems aim to ensure satisfactory output performance whilst adhering to requirements on emissions, drivability and fuel efficiency. Model predictive control (MPC) has shown promising results when applied to multivariable and nonlinear systems with operational constraints, such as diesel engines. This report studies the torque generation from a mean-value heavy duty diesel engine with exhaust gas recirculation and variable-geometry turbocharger using state feedback linearization based MPC (LMPC). This is accomplished by first introducing a fuel optimal reference generator that converts demands on torque and engine speed to references on states and control signals for the MPC controller to follow. Three different MPC controllers are considered: a single linearization point LMPC controller and two different successive LMPC (SLMPC) controllers, where the controllers are implemented using the optimization tool CasADi. The MPC controllers are evaluated with the World Harmonized Transient Cycle and the results show promising torque tracking using a SLMPC controller with linearization about reference values.

Activité prisée des rois de France depuis l'époque médiévale, la chasse était devenue pour les derniers Bourbons plus une passion dévorante qu'une simple distraction. Louis XV et Louis XVI furent critiqués par l'opinion publique naissante, qui considérait que leurs chasses onéreuses les éloignaient du gouvernement. Après la chute de la monarchie, les chasses royales disparurent. Elles furent remises au goût du jour par Napoléon Ier, soucieux de s'approprier les apparences de la légitimité monarchique. Le maréchal Berthier fut ainsi nommé Grand veneur en 1804. Grâce à lui, Napoléon put faire de ses chasses un instrument politique puissant, une distraction de Cour prisée, le tout avec une économie substantielle de moyens. La Restauration, au lieu de revenir à l'organisation d'Ancien Régime, choisit de conserver l'équipage de chasse et l'administration mise en place pour Napoléon, qui fonctionnèrent jusqu'en 1830. Naquit ainsi le paradoxe d'une Restauration affichant, à la suite de l'Empire, la volonté de renouer avec la tradition monarchique, mais cela grâce à un équipage formé pour Napoléon. C'est cette continuité, humaine, budgétaire, mais aussi politique et symbolique qu'il convient d'étudier au travers des éléments constitutifs des chasses : une implantation autour de Paris permettant une circulation de la Cour autour de différentes résidences de chasse, une pratique régulière destinée à la distraction du souverain et de ses proches, des invitations de personnages politiquement importants, qui donnent à certains jours de chasse bien précis une résonance particulière. Indeed Louis XV and Louis XVI were to be criticized by a proto public opinion ; it was thought that hunts were expensive and that they distracted the rulers from the duties of government. The royal hunts disappeared with the fall of the monarchy. But Napoleon, with his desire to appropriate the outward show of monarchical legitimacy, brought it back. Marshal Berthier was appointed Grand veneur and given the task of organizing the imperial hunt in exactly the same way as it had been done under Louis XVI. Napoleon made the hunts a powerful political instrument and a Court indulgence whilst at the same time making considerable savings. The Restoration in fact chose not to revive Ancien Régime customs but preserved the Napoleonic hunting administration. This gave rise to the paradox of a Restoration attempting to reinvigorate monarchical traditions but using structures created by Napoleon. This is that strong continuity, human, budgetary, but also political and symbolic, inside a geographical field concentrated around Paris that made it possible for the Court to circulate around the different imperial hunting residences, to dedicate certain days to the hunts, and to invite some important political figures. An analysis of the prevention of police brutality in the Western Cape

South Africa has been synonymous with police brutality for many years. This stigma remains till this day. The South African Police Service and the Government has tried in vain to change the image of the South African Police Service. This research was conducted to analyse the prevention of police brutality in the Western Cape, focusing on Cape Town. This will include the effects police brutality has had on the community, and the resulting breakdown of relations between the police and the community. This study will compare statistics of police brutality related incidents from South Africa with that of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Australia and Nigeria. This comparison will indicate if South Africans do suffer more brutality cases at the hands of the police or is brutality by police officers a worldwide phenomenon. The research questions that were asked during this study are if police brutality is a problem, why does police brutality occur, how does it affect the community and what can be done to prevent police brutality. This study used a mixed method of research methodology to attempt the answer the complex questions asked. This included survey questionnaires that were distributed to police officials, Community Police Forum members and the community around the Cape Town Central Business District. Semi structured interviews were held with members of the police’s departmental hearing section. Literature was also obtained regarding police brutality. Prevention of police brutality strategies from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia and Nigeria were obtained to compare these strategies and determine which have been successful and could be a benefit to the South African Police Service. The current strategies the South African Police Service have also put in place will be discussed which will include legislation, white paper on safety and security, the green paper on police practice and the National Development plan 2030. Combining all the information obtained, this research will provide findings regarding the phenomenon of police brutality and possible recommendations that could assist with the prevention of police brutality. The master´s thesis elaborates the project documentation for the construction of the District Police of the Czech Republic in Brno. The new building is situated in the north of city part Bohunice. It´s a three- floor object with partial basement and flat roof. The bearing perimeter masonry, internal bearing masonry and internal non- load bearing masonry are made with technology from ceramic hollow blocks. Ceiling construction is designed from prestressed ceiling panels. The perimeter walls of the of the underground floor are made from blocks of lost formwork, which is insulated with extruded polystyrene. The walls on the above- ground floors are insulated by a combination of contact thermal insulation system and ventilated facades with fiber- cement facade cladding boards.

Characterization of Quasi-Periodic Orbits for Applications in the Sun-Earth and Earth-Moon Systems

<div>As destinations of missions in both human and robotic spaceflight become more exotic, a foundational understanding the dynamical structures in the gravitational environments enable more informed mission trajectory designs. One particular type of structure, quasi-periodic orbits, are examined in this investigation. Specifically, efficient computation of quasi-periodic orbits and leveraging quasi-periodic orbits as trajectory design alternatives in the Earth-Moon and Sun-Earth systems. First, periodic orbits and their associated center manifold are discussed to provide the background for the existence of quasi-periodic motion on n-dimensional invariant tori, where n corresponds to the number of fundamental frequencies that define the motion. Single and multiple shooting differential corrections strategies are summarized to compute families 2-dimensional tori in the Circular Restricted Three-Body Problem (CR3BP) using a stroboscopic mapping technique, originally developed by Howell and Olikara. Three types of quasi-periodic orbit families are presented: constant energy, constant frequency ratio, and constant mapping time families. Stability of quasi-periodic orbits is summarized and characterized with a single stability index quantity. For unstable quasi-periodic orbits, hyperbolic manifolds are computed from the differential of a discretized invariant curve. The use of quasi-periodic orbits is also demonstrated for destination orbits and transfer trajectories. Quasi-DROs are examined in the CR3BP and the Sun-Earth-Moon ephemeris model to achieve constant line of sight with Earth and avoid lunar eclipsing by exploiting orbital resonance. Arcs from quasi-periodic orbits are leveraged to provide an initial guess for transfer trajectory design between a planar Lyapunov orbit and an unstable halo orbit in the Earth-Moon system. Additionally, quasi-periodic trajectory arcs are exploited for transfer trajectory initial guesses between nearly stable periodic orbits in the Earth-Moon system. Lastly, stable hyperbolic manifolds from a Sun-Earth L<sub>1</sub> quasi-vertical orbit are employed to design maneuver-free transfer from the LEO vicinity to a quasi-vertical orbit.</div>
