BAKGRUND: I ett multikulturellt land som Sverige sker det många möten i vården där språket blir ett kommunikationsproblem. Vid den dagliga omvårdnaden av icke svensktalande personer finns tolk ofta inte att tillgå och detta kommunikationshinder riskerar att försämra vårdkvalitén. SYFTE: Denna studie avser att värdera om översättningsapplikationer i smarttelefoner kan användas som kommunikationshjälpmedel vid omvårdnaden av icke svensktalande personer. METOD: Empirisk kvalitativ studie genom intervjuer av åtta icke svensktalande personer som hade hemtjänst. Deltagarna fick lyssna på omvårdnadsfrågor som översattes till deltagarens hemspråk med en smarttelefon. Detta följdes upp med utvärderingsfrågor som översattes av en tolk. RESULTAT: Deltagare uttryckte både positiva och negativa åsikter kring metodens användbarhet. Deltagarna var övervägande positiva och skulle själva kunna tänka sig att metoden användes i deras egen omvårdnadssituation. SLUTSATS: Översättningsapplikationer i smarttelefoner skulle kunna användas som kommunikationshjälpmedel vid omvårdnad av icke svensktalande personer. I de fall där metodens brister riskerar påverka omvårdnaden negativt bör den uteslutas. Mer forskning behövs för att evaluera hur väl metoden fungerar i reella omvårdnadssituationer samt vid tvåvägskommunikation. / BACKGROUND: In a multicultural country like Sweden there are often encounters in healthcare where the language becomes a communication problem. At the daily care of the non-Swedish speaking individuals, interpreting is often not available and this communication barrier could compromise the quality of carework. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate whether translation applications in smartphones can be used as a communication tool in the care of non-Swedish speaking individuals. METHOD: An empirical qualitative study was conducted through interviews of eight non-Swedish speaking individuals who received homecare. Subjects were allowed to listen to related nursing issues that were translated into the participant's native language with a smartphone. This was followed up with evaluation questions that were translated by an interpreter. RESULTS: Participants expressed both positive and negative opinions about the usefulness of the method. Most of the participants were considerably positive and would be free to consider that the method could be used in their own care situation. CONCLUSIONS: Translation applications in smartphones could be used as a communication tool in the care of non-Swedish speaking individuals. In the cases where the method deficiencies risk to adversely affect care, it should be excluded. More research is needed to evaluate how well the method works in real care situations and in two-way communication.

Use of Smartphone and GIS Technology for Sustainable Forestry in Eastern OntarioKennedy, Richard R. 11 October 2012 (has links)
This study examined whether the current generation of consumer-grade digital mobile computing technology, so called smartphone technology, is usable to perform and improve field data collection in the context of sustainable forest management. An electronic data acquisition system, based on a handheld smartphone device and desktop geographic information system (GIS), was developed. A proprietary timber cruise application and commercial mapping software were used with the smartphone/desktop GIS to record and process forest stand and geospatial data. Usability testing was carried out to measure workflow efficiency and system performance of the smartphone GIS compared to traditional paper-based methods. The smartphone GIS successfully met performance objectives and significantly increased workflow efficiencies by improving data transfer and processing times over conventional paper methods; however, use of the mobile device resulted in greater data entry errors, increased data collection times, and led to more equipment malfunctions than use of paper recording methods together with a GPS and digital camera. Overall, the prototype electronic data acquisition system was not reliable as a stand-alone solution solely responsible for collecting cruise data, but was found to be well suited for ad-hoc mapping of forest features.

We aim to answer this question through three part questions: where in the buyer process they experience value, what they think is value and if there are any diffrences between the value men and women recive. We choosed to both have an quantitative and a qualitative method and a inductive way of working. Through our study we found out that people wanted the Smartphones and applications to be easy and they experienced value in the buyer process when its quick, adapteble and when it makes the day easy and we also found out that it wasent any differences between the value men and women recived.

Examining Parental Generalization of the SafeCare® Child Health Module Using Smartphone EnhancementsAtkinson, Rachel 15 May 2015 (has links)
Child maltreatment is a serious public health problem that leads to psychological, physical, behavioral, and economic burdens for children and broader community. Current data suggest that child maltreatment has declined over the past 20 years with the smallest declines in child neglect. In 2013, medical neglect represented approximately 31% of all substantiated cases of child maltreatment. SafeCare® is an evidence-based home visiting program that targets risk factors for child maltreatment by providing three modules: home safety, health, and parent-child interaction, or parent-infant interaction for children who are not walking. The SafeCare health module aims to teach parents how to identify and treat their children when they become ill, reducing the potential for medical neglect. Previous SafeCare research demonstrated that incorporating cell phones into training improves home safety and parent-child interaction outcomes. The current research evaluated the SafeCare health module and the effect cell phone enhancements had on parents’ child health knowledge. Data reaffirm the value of the SafeCare health module to increase parental child health skills and that incorporating cell phone technology may promote generalization and may engage participants and increase effectiveness.

This paper aims to create a better understanding for how executing private matters during work hours affect the individual worker. In todays world the access to social medias, the Internet and all your friends is easy to access due to smartphones and computers. Prior research as described this both as a threat against the productivity of the worker and the moral of the workplace. While others mean that it is a source of recovery and something positive. This thesis uses a qualitative method and fifteen interviews where conducted with people between 20-30 years, who where working and living in Sweden. The theory of this paper is built on following areas: Time, the line between work and private, together alone, the brain and the affect it has on the dialogue between colleagues. This paper confirms a lot of the theory previous conducted, that it can affect the productivity but that it is also a form of recovery. Also the moral dilemma that concurs when the respondents don’t approve surfing on the web or using the smartphone but still everybody does it. The main contribute of this paper is the affect on the dialogue at the workplace. The usage of smartphones in particular makes for fewer conversations between co- workers since a lot of people are using it during breaks and lunches. In the interviews it also came up that every respondent finds people looking at their phone during conversation as irritating and disrespectful, but still most commit to doing it themselves. We can see today that people let their smartphones come between their dialogues and making people less outgoing. In the traditional meeting places like the break room, the co-workers have stopped being social and instead sitting with a smartphone in front of them. The affects of this change are the lost opportunity to learn and come up with new innovating ideas for the company as well as the individual development.

En smartphone är en teknisk apparat som successivt tar mer och mer plats i vårt vardagsliv. Att äga denna tekniska pryl betyder att man är ständigt anträffbar och att vara utan den har kommit att bli allt svårare. I takt med detta läggs mycket av vår uppmärksamhet och tid på våra smartphones vilket kan bidra med bland annat konsekvenser för våra sociala interaktioner med de närmsta vi har, vår familj. Vårt syfte med denna uppsats är att skapa en förståelse kring användandet av smartphones samt vilket inflytande den har på sociala interaktioner samt tillgängligheten mellan föräldrar och barn. Vi har valt att göra en kvalitativ studie för att besvara vår frågeställning och uppnå vårt syfte. Vidare har vi valt att använda oss av semistrukturerade intervjuer för att skapa en djupare förståelse kring våra espondenters känslor, uppfattningar, åsikter och erfarenheter kring smartphones. Dessa intervjuer har vi sedan tolkat i vårt resultat utifrån en hermeneutisk infallsvinkel. Vidare har vi kopplat resultatet till tidigare forskning för att hitta samband och olikheter samt använt oss av teorier för att stödja våra tolkningar i vår sociologiska analys. Det teoretiska ramverket vi har utgått ifrån har innefattat tid och rum (Giddens), Social responsivitet kontra asocial responslöshet (Asplund) och sociala roller (Goffman). Resultatet visar i sin tur att smartphones skapar en distansering mellan föräldrar och barn vilket bidrar till en försämrad interaktion mellan dem. Samtidigt uppskattades tillgängligheten som smartphones bidrog med då våra respondenter ansåg det vara viktigt att kunna nå sina barn respektive föräldrar oberoende av tid och rum. / A Smartphone is a technical device which is gradually taking more and more place in our everyday lives. To possess this technological gadget means that you are constantly available and to be without it has become increasingly difficult. In line with this, a great deal of our attention and time is put on our smartphones which can contribute with consequences for our social interactions with the nearest we have, our family. Our purpose with this paper is to create an understanding of the use of smartphones and what influence it has on the social interactions and availability between parents and children. We have chosen to do a ualitative study to answer our questions and to achieve our aim with this study. Furthermore, we have chosen to use semi-structured interviews to create a deeper understanding of people's feelings, perceptions, opinions and experiences about smartphones. These interviews have been interpreted in our results by using a hermeneutic perspective. Furthermore, we have linked the results to previous research to find correlations and differences and theories to support our interpretations of our sociological analysis. The theoretical framework we have used has included time and space (Giddens), social responsiveness versus asocial unresponsiveness (Asplund) and social roles (Goffman). The result shows in turn that the smartphone creates a distance between parents and children, which contributes to the deterioration of interaction between them. Meanwhile, the availability which the smartphone contributes with, was considered as highly important by our respondents because they want to be able to reach their children and parents, regardless of time and space

Flexibelt arbete blir ett alltmer vanligt sätt att arbeta. Tekniken gör det allt svårare att urskilja gränserna mellan privat- och arbetsliv. Därför blir det intressant att undersöka om flexibelt arbetet har någon relation till privatlivet samt om stress har något samband till flexibelt arbete och privatliv. En enkätstudie genomfördes på två organisationer, undersökningen innehöll 136 deltagare varav 78 kvinnor. Enkäten innehöll frågor om stress, privatliv och flexibelt arbete. Resultatet visar att kvinnor i åldrarna 35-46 arbetade mer flexibelt än andra kvinnor i studien. Männen i studien arbetade mest flexibelt i åldrarna 56-65 och de som var i åldrarna 35-46. Det flexibla arbetet hade en relation till privatlivet och det tenderade att finnas ett negativt samband mellan flexibelt arbetet och stress. En av slutsatserna för studien är att det bör vara upp till var och en att bestämma om flexibelt arbetet är något för dem.

Security and privacy in app ecosystemsTaylor, Vincent January 2017 (has links)
Smartphones are highly-capable mobile computing devices that have dramatically changed how people do business, interact with online services, and receive entertainment. Smartphone functionality is enhanced by an ecosystem of apps seemingly covering the entire gamut of functionality. While smartphone apps have undoubtedly provided immeasurable benefit to users, they also contribute their fair share of drawbacks, such as increases in security risks and the erosion of user privacy. In this thesis, I focus on the Android smartphone operating system, and pave the way for improving the security and privacy of its app ecosystem. Chapter 3 starts by doing a comprehensive study on how Android apps have evolved over a three-year period, both in terms of their dangerous permission usage and the vulnerabilities they contain. It uncovers a trend whereby apps are using increasing numbers of dangerous permissions over time and at the same time becoming increasingly vulnerable to attack by adversaries. By analysing the Google Play Store, Android's official app marketplace, Chapter 4 shows that many general-purpose apps can be replaced with functionallysimilar alternatives to the benefit of the user. This confirms that users still wield power to improve their own security and privacy. Chapter 5 combines this insight with real-world data from approximately 30,000 smartphones to understand the actual risk that the average user faces as a result of their use of apps, and takes an important first step in measuring the improvements that can be made. Users, however, are not always aware of the risks they face and thus Chapter 6 demonstrates the feasibility of a classification system that can transparently and unobtrusively identify and alert users to the presence of apps of concern on their devices. This classification system identifies apps from features in the network traffic they generate, without itself analysing the payload of their traffic, thus maintaining a high threshold of privacy. While the work presented in this thesis has uncovered undesirable trends in app evolution, and shows that a large fraction of users are exposed to non-trivial risk from the apps they use, in many cases there is suficient diversity in the offerings of general-purpose apps in the Google Play Store to empower users to mitigate the risks coming from the apps they use. This work takes us a step further in keeping users safe as they navigate and enjoy app ecosystems.

Por meio do receptor de GPS do smartphone são calculados a distância, velocidade e altitude do ciclista e os dados são enviados a uma rede social na Internet. Para a melhora da aptidão física do ciclista foi desenvolvido um protótipo de hardware e um aplicativo em smartphone com sistema operacional Android. O hardware contêm um módulo de oximetria e um sensor de testa para monitorar a frequência cardíaca e o percentual de oxigênio, um sensor MCP9803M para medir a temperatura ao redor do ciclista e um microcontrolador PIC18F2550 para processamento dos dados. Os dados são enviados via comunicação Bluetooth ao smartphone e mostrados na tela. Para avaliar o desempenho do ciclista, 6 zonas de treinamento podem ser escolhidas e, com a fórmula de Karvonen, é calculado o limite máximo e mínimo da faixa de treinamento. Desta forma, foi possível obter um protótipo de hardware e um aplicativo em smartphone para monitoramento e treinamento de ciclistas. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This paper presents a system for monitoring and training of cyclists. Through the GPS receiver of a smartphone, the distance, speed and altitude of the cyclist are calculated and the data is sent to a social network on the Internet. To improve the rider's physical aptitude, a prototype hardware and an application on smartphone with Android operating system were developed. The hardware contains a oximetry module and a head sensor to monitor heart rate and oxygen percentage, and has a MCP9803M sensor to measure the temperature around the cyclist and a PIC18F2550 microcontroller for data processing. Data is sent via Bluetooth to the smartphone and displayed on the screen. To evaluate the performance of the rider, 6 training zones can be chosen, and the Karvonen formula is used to calculate the maximum and minimum training range. It was thus possible to obtain a prototype hardware and a smartphone application for monitoring and training cyclists.
