Sancarranco Crisanto, Mario Henry, Espejo Rázuri, Karina Yovana, Guimaraes Blanco, Jazmín 05 April 2019 (has links)
Our entrepreneurship presents a study that examines how older adults integrate mobile communication technologies into their daily practices. From the analysis of interviews and situational conversations, applied to older adults, we have detected factors that determine the use of these technologies among the participants and we come to define the following: • The main advantage is having communication and access to information at any time and place. Older adults over 60 have incorporated these mobile communication technologies later in their lives. After growing up in a society marked by reading and writing, this age group has had to adapt to a complex environment of media technology, convergent, network and mobile. In addition, the difficulties derived from the physical and cognitive deterioration of age, such as fine motor skills and memory, are accentuated by the lack of mobile devices and applications designed to respond to the particular characteristics of this group. The achievement of this objective is important for the team, since we are aware that in Peru the rate of older adults now reaches 10.1% of the Peruvian population, that is, some 3,250,000 people. On the other hand, the team also verified, through in-depth interviews, that it is not easy for older people to manage their smartphone with skills due to insecurity and fears due to lack of adequate instruction related to technology. / Trabajo de investigación

A enunciação nos vídeos verticais : o protagonismo do corpo /

Pereira, Henrique da Silva. January 2018 (has links)
This research carried out an investigation about the visuality of music videos produced in the vertical aspect, focusing on the enunciative strategies of these audiovisual texts. Aiming to identify the production of meaning, as well as the communication relations made possible by smartphones, the four most popular vertical music videos on YouTube, in the first half of 2018, were analyzed from the theoretical and methodological approach of French discursive semiotics. The figure of the human body remains the focus of representation in these videos, reaffirming the discourse of valuing the individual while producing music videos. From the corpus analyzed, it was perceived that the visual construction of these clips can refer to an aesthetic related to the practice of selfie, valuing a narcissistic and celebrity logic, as well as an aesthetic and editing characteristic of traditional, specular and fragmentary music videos, specifically for fruition on smartphones / Mestre

Ungdomar och smartphones : En kulturanalytisk studie av identitetsskapande bland unga / Teenagers and smartphones : Identity and orientations

Mirjamsdotter, Edgar January 2019 (has links)

This is the subject of this study to investigate the meanings of smartphone consumption, the trade-offs caused by the purchase, how the device is used and how it produces meanings. In addition, it seeks to verify the social implications of using the device. The qualitative research was done by means of 23 interviews and 2 focus groups with low income youths from R $ 768 to R $ 2,705. In those circumstances, it was possible to calculate the types of cells that can be used as important components for their sociability, in a moment that the relations extrapolate face to face and gain a digital environment. As a result, I realized that smartphones are among the objects of desire of the low-income youth and that the meanings of the mobile device for the young people interviewed are a social inclusion through connectivity and interactivity, dependence of the device in their day to day "Self Extended" through the humanization of the device. It was also noted that the smartphone is considered one of the best fashion, symbol status and fast source of access. In the view of young people, the dissemination of the use of telephones in disempowering society should not be considered as interpersonal relations.

Stolt, Jonatan January 2009 (has links)
<p>The most common method for identifying merchandise in the commerce is by barcodes. Symbian OS is an advanced operating system aimed at cell phones and the most commonly used in smart phones. Opportunities to a full range of new services are given through barcode recognition in a Symbian OS based device. Therefore the purpose of this degree project was to create an application which would contribute to a future solution aimed at shopping where the cell phone constitutes a reader of itemsʼ identification numbers. Available barcode decoders have been evaluated and three were chosen for testing. The decoder that fared best was ZXing. It was subsequently incorporated into a Symbian OS-based mobile phone. The decoder was written in the Java language but sufficient Java APIs for controlling the camera's autofocus were missing, something that was necessary to decode the barcode. On the other hand the APIs were offered in C++. Therefore, the solution was split into two applications, one server application written in Java and responsible for the decoding and one client application written in C++ containing the GUI, camera controlling facilities and connections to two price comparison services. A procedure for communication between applications and an interface for various lookup services were defined. Finally, the information security was evaluated and the most relevant threat would be a third party that collects information about user behavior patterns for extortion purposes. It was concluded that the application that was created had the ability to scan barcodes, it is possible to extend and thereby fulfill the purpose.</p>

Factors Affecting Consumers' Resistance : A Study of Smartphones

Khan, Kamran, Hyunwoo, Kim January 2009 (has links)
Background: In mobile phone industry, Smartphones are gaining popularity as an effective communication tool, providing users with “Smart” functionalities of both cell-phone and Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Experts in mobile industry expect that smartphones are going to be dominant in mobile phone market. However, Smartphone industry is facing a different reality, with its declining sales and less market share, forcing research companies (Gartner, Canalys, etc.) to change their expectations. This situation leads us to another important and often ignored perspective of innovation challenges, i.e. consumers' resistance; as consumers' adoption and purchase decision makes a significant difference in the success of innovative products. Problem: Innovation has been called as a key factor for companies to survive and grow in the long run, especially in the dynamic &amp; complex markets and uncertain economic circumstances. Despite the successful outcome of innovations, inhibition or delay in the diffusion of innovation may translate this success into market failure, where resistance has been called as one of the main reasons for inhibiting or delaying the innovation diffusion. Consumers adoption of innovation depend upon several factors: the most important of which are specified as consumers’ characteristics (psychological characteristics of consumers; how they view the innovativeness with respect to that particular product), and the innovation characteristics (outcome and effects of innovation). Past research on innovation &amp; consumers characteristics represents good relationship among the innovation/consumers factors and the adoption/implementation of that innovation by consumers. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the relationship between consumers' resistance and different factors from innovation and consumers' characteristics. Thereafter, important factors are identified that mainly affect/determine consumers' resistance to smartphones. Moreover, the inter-relationship (correlation) among the selected factors is found out, to know the affects of each factor on other factors. Method: Following abductive approach, confirmatory factor analysis has been done on pre-test questionnaires to test, improve, and verify the constructs (variables/questions) for measuring the hypothesized factors. A theoretical model has been proposed from the hypotheses; and Structural Equation Modeling has been applied, where results are estimated through Partial Least Square and AMOS approaches, using a sample of 330 respondents from Sweden. SmartPLS software has been used to estimate results, thereafter, AMOS has been used to check and verify the results. Almost same results have been derived from both approaches, while results from PLS are found as more satisfactory. Conclusions: Five out of eight hypotheses have been supported by our empirical data, where H1 i.e. relative advantage, H3 i.e. complexity, and H4 i.e. perceived risk, are from innovation characteristics, while H6 i.e. motivation, and H7 i.e. „favorable attitude towards existing products‟ are from consumers' characteristics. Motivation, Complexity, Relative Advantage, and Perceived Risk are found as important factors (as per their order) that affect/determine consumers' resistance to smartphones. Relative Advantage &amp; Motivation are found as positively correlated, and Perceived Risk &amp; Complexity are found as positively correlated. Negative correlation has been found between Perceived Risk and relative advantage. Similarly, negative correlation has been found between motivation and complexity. The proposed model of consumers resistance to smartphones shows an acceptable goodness of fit, where 65% (R-square value) of variation in consumers resistance is caused/explained by the hypothesized factors. / The Presentation (Defense) has been attended by Cecilia Bjursel instead of our supervisor Desalegn Abraha.

Towards secure web browsing on mobile devices

Amrutkar, Chaitrali Vijay 08 June 2015 (has links)
The Web is increasingly being accessed by portable, multi-touch wireless devices. Despite the popularity of platform-specific (native) mobile apps, a recent study of smartphone usage shows that more people (81%) browse the Web than use native apps (68%) on their phone. Moreover, many popular native apps such as BBC depend on browser-like components (e.g., Webview) for their functionality. The popularity and prevalence of web browsers on modern mobile phones warrants characterizing existing and emerging threats to mobile web browsing, and building solutions for the same. Although a range of studies have focused on the security of native apps on mobile devices, efforts in characterizing the security of web transactions originating at mobile browsers are limited. This dissertation presents three main contributions: First, we show that porting browsers to mobile platforms leads to new vulnerabilities previously not observed in desktop browsers. The solutions to these vulnerabilities require careful balancing between usability and security and might not always be equivalent to those in desktop browsers. Second, we empirically demonstrate that the combination of reduced screen space and an independent selection of security indicators not only make it difficult for experts to determine the security standing of mobile browsers, but actually make mobile browsing more dangerous for average users as they provide a false sense of security. Finally, we experimentally demonstrate the need for mobile specific techniques to detect malicious webpages. We then design and implement kAYO, the first mobile specific static tool to detect malicious webpages in real-time.
