A Diversity Perspective on Knowledge Transfer at Nordic Trading Floors : Does wearing suits and playing golf help the employees to learn?

Levén, Pernilla, Mohn, Henrik January 2017 (has links)
Background: This thesis is about knowledge transfer and diversity at Nordic trading floors. The research is focusing on knowledge transfer and how it is influenced by diversity and the ties between homogenous people. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand how the knowledge transfer could be more efficient at Nordic trading floors and whether employees prefer to share knowledge with employees to whom they either have a weak or strong social tie to. We also want to see how homogenous people impact the flow of knowledge transfer. Methodology: This research is conducted through a case study of respondents working at trading floors at two different banks in the Nordic countries. The data is mainly collected through quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Conclusions: Knowledge transfer at Nordic trading floors is implemented through different types of training and mentoring and by keeping up with strong social ties which is feeding the sociocultural arena. Homogenous people are contributing to knowledge transfer by spreading tacit knowledge while networking and socializing with each other. Wearing suits and playing golf might therefore help employees at Nordic trading floors to learn more.

Histoires de familles et de transmissions : une sociologie des pratiques festives / Stories of Family and Transmission : a Sociology of Festive Practices

Le Grandic, Marie 12 December 2016 (has links)
This thesis looks at the social and anthropological functions of family celebrations, and focuses in particular on transmission. The study of these festive gatherings contributes to an exploration of the complexity of social ties. It shows that these spaces are ambivalent, as they both integrate and exclude from festivities. The material and immaterial elements that can be passed down are introduced in all their variety. Festive practices socialise while also being a social product themselves, and create learning opportunities through processes of inculcation and impregnation. The educational relationship seems heightened by the particular atmosphere of these celebrations, which bring people physically closer and allows the relaxing of rules and habits. Through this proximity, participants become more attentive to each other, and more inclined to reciprocity in their relationships. Around the table, relatives negotiate the family memory by sharing their experiences and through the narration of old memories, especially past or future celebrations. Between reserve and elation, these groups thus create a sense of community that is significant both for the group’s evolution and for the individual, and his or her attitude towards others. Along the way, the different phases of festivities create space for encounters and dialogue, which allow individuals to tell their story and process their plural identity. From a methodological perspective, this qualitative analysis of festive practices within the framework of the family draws on an ethnographic approach, and combines participant observation with the gathering of multiple voices. Through her own involvement, the writer questions the proximity between the researcher and the field studied.

Influência da comunicação boca-a-boca na intenção de compra: o impacto do expertise e da força do laço social da fonte para produtos hedônicos e utilitários / Word of mouth influence on purchase intention: the impact of source expertise and tie strength on hedonic and utilitarian products

No. of bitstreams: 1 Gustavo Viegas Rodrigues.pdf: 1163684 bytes, checksum: 71d37115db9e647b4ddc1e42b8011e46 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-08-13 / This work has investigated the interaction between two word-of-mouth’s-source-related factors with products’ purchase intention, either hedonic or utilitarian products. The interaction between communication source’s expertise and social ties with the receptor of the communication and product type was analyzed using an experiment. The results allow for the conclusion that, regardless of product type, only the recommendation given by an expert is capable of increasing the receptor’s purchase intention. The same does not apply if the person whom recommends has a stronger (or weaker) social tie with the one receiving the recommendation. This study’s contribution may support marketing managers to rethink their word-of-mouth communication strategies, focusing on experts; and it may help academics, by offering another evidence that expertise is the most relevant factor in that kind of communication.

Aging in Urban Communities, Neighborhood Senior Attachment and Youth Offending: New Roles and New Goals

Hobson-Prater, Tara L. 16 March 2012 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Relationships among neighbors contribute to the well-being and outcomes of all who live within a neighborhood. Existing literature provides us with a wealth of information on individual seniors’ isolation but does not seem to consider how neighborhood factors add to the attachment of seniors. Given the increasing number of seniors in our society who have the ability to remain living in their neighborhoods as they age, this study focuses on understanding neighborhood attachment to seniors living in the community. Furthermore, emphasis was placed on the potential impact that senior attachment could have on youth as one subset life stage who reside in a neighborhood. This thesis describes the characteristics of neighborhoods that foster low, normal, and high levels of senior attachment in urban areas and explores the relationship this attachment has to neighborhood youth outcomes. This research opens the door for other scholars to begin to place greater emphasis on the understanding of neighborhood dynamics, intergenerational ties to seniors, and the well being of residents across the life course.

Výchova mládeže a německé mládežnické organizace skautského typu v českých zemích / Outdoor education ane German scout-type youth organizations in the Czech lands

Jelínek, Tomáš January 2013 (has links)
"Outdoor Education" and German Scout-Type Youth Organizations in the Czech Lands Title: "Outdoor Education" and German Scout-Type Youth Organizations in the Czech Lands Abstract: The thesis deals with the formation and history of German youth organizations in the Czech Lands. It especially covers those organizations that either directly referred to the Scout movement originating in the UK or US, or at least adopted the fundamental educational methods and principles of working with the youth which were typical for these movements. These organizations marked a revolutionary change in the approach to youth and their education. Such a change was possible thanks to a series of philosophical, pedagogical and political transformations in the society. Scout movements were especially built on the modern philosophical theories based on the ideas of American and German philosophers. However, the roots of this approach to nature and to human education can be traced to the early modern era, when the first modern approaches to teaching appeared and were generally applied under the changing economic and social environment of a modern society. In addition to philosophy, the movement was also influenced by a number of other social, political, ideological and cultural phenomena. The origins of these organizations can be seen...

A study of frivårdens efforts. : Former criminals and administrator perceptions of its assistance.

Gadzo, Erna, Löfgren, Johanna, Le Magourou, Claire January 2012 (has links)

Sujeito e empresa capitalista contemporânea num impasse: entre o laço social neurótico e o perverso / Subject and contemporary commercial company in impasse: between the neurotic and perverse social ties

Barros Junior, Antonio Carlos de 31 August 2009 (has links)
Capitalism and labour configuration have been changing deeply since 1970. The research here described is an investigation about the unconscious relation between the subject and the current capitalism configuration in the context of a multinational company in the hotel market. The method adopted was qualitative, being a study of applied psychoanalysis about the articulation between singular fantasy and institutional discourse as well as pleasure, suffering, jouissance forms in the company in question: 1) by the analysis of discourses produced in open interviews with 6 of its employees that work in 4 of its hotels located in São Paulo and Campinas, Brazil, held between October 2007 and November 2008; 2) by the analysis of printed and on-line corporate material; 3) by a short social-historical briefing of capitalism. One of the conclusions to which we have come is that basic principles of a commercial company are the same as ever. Nevertheless mechanisms and discourses adopted to implement them have changed. Now external abstract entities - globalization, competitiveness, market dynamics - supposedly justify the intensification of appropriation of what is produced by employees, besides their knowledge and time; justify such imperious demand for productive excellence and growing profits; justify restructuring actions, adoption of competence assessment policies and layoffs. In the analysed case, the old mother-company, subjective in selection processes, slow to make decisions, is being replaced by a new company, objective and fast to select competent people and to implement changes that goals associated with financial results require. However this has been done keeping the old image of a protective-mother painted through an almost homogeneous discourse about a social tie supposedly in great harmony. This is the case in both the official corporate documentation and the employees\' speech about the company which has been elected more than 10 times as one of the 10 best companies to work in Brazil; which is concerned about its children-employees; which offers several career opportunities to them. However, some contradictions and impasses are detected in discourses, which seem to oscillate between the neurotic and perverse ones. But the perverse dimension usually stays elided. Perverse in the sense of fantasy and will to jouissance in the relation with the other, in the case of the subjects, and, in the case of the company, in the sense of profitability goals above any concern towards employees, any social responsibility or any diversity supposedly appreciated. Furthermore, personal issues of all interviewed subjects are related to the institution core issues. Issues referring to the place that each one occupies for the other - to be or not to be recognized, to be or not to be promoted, to be or not to be laid off, to see or not to see the other getting a career opportunity.
