Comparison of Ankle Kinematics between Soft and Semi-Rigid Ankle Orthoses for Field-Sport Activities

Becker, Shannon 05 December 2013 (has links)
Purpose of study: Examine ASO (soft) and Malleoloc semi-rigid stirrup (SRS) ankle orthosis designs on ankle kinematics during field-sport movements: sprint, one-legged jump, and 45-degree cut. Participants: 13 competitive Ultimate players who regularly wore an ankle orthosis during physical activity. Methods: ASO or Malleoloc orthosis was randomly assigned to each person. Kinematic data were captured while the participants performed several trials for each movement in a motion analysis laboratory. Participants repeated the protocol with the other orthosis. Results: ASO allowed significantly more plantar-flexion during weight acceptance of the planting foot in cutting (p=0.038). In jumping, the Malleoloc allowed significantly more eversion-inversion range during stance (p=0.048) and eversion-inversion angular velocity from midstance to toe-off (p=0.026). Qualitative data also showed a significant preference for ASO. Conclusion: Hypotheses that ankle inversion and eversion would be greater with the ASO; and plantar-flexion and dorsiflexion would be greater with the Malleoloc were refuted.

January 1998 (has links)
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to provid a better understanding of the cheer role in the emotional state of adolescent athletes, specially related to anxiety and aggressiveness. Based upon the literature, that shows several conceptions (adolescence, aggression, anxiety, and cheeriness) and their relationships, this study assumes a characteristic of qualitative research, specially the participant research as its strategy for verification. In this way, this study focused on the aspects related to the cheer activity and its interference in the aggressive and anxious behavior of the young players who participate in official modality, verifying in the increase of anxiety and aggressiveness in the sportive situation reflects the pressure coming from the cheering . It was considered cheerthose people in the stadium (parents, relatives, public, and reports) and those people not present in the stadium (parents, relatives, and reports) who only wait for the result in their "homes". This research analyzed athletes participating in basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, team handball, track and field and swimming through interviews, observations, and talks and expressions that could, based upon rigorous categorization, offer principles for a re-planning of the adolescent sport activities. It was verified strong public influence, in special parental influence and followed by sportive professionals. This finding explains the cause-effect relationship between anxiety and aggressiveness and offers insights for future studies focusing on the interferences coming from the public present in the stadium.

Lövgren, Emme-Li, Prandes, Katarina January 2019 (has links)

A passagem de 12 para 13 anos aponta uma diferença significante para as variáveis do estudo e repete-se com as demais faixas etárias, sugerindo que a idade cronológica gera interferência / Abstract: Introduction: Football is the sport more practiced and known in the world and had a great evolution in all aspects. Physical demands are of major importance today. For the occurrence of an optimization performance in adult category is necessary to understanding how the development of motor skills and anthropometric aspects over the years. Objective: Follow up soccer players with chronological ages between 11 and 18 years old. This transversal study evaluates anthropometric aspects and physical performance identifying the variability of these aspects at distinctive group of soccer players related to chronological age. Material and Methods: 369 young soccer players with chronological ages between 11 and 18 years old. A digital balance (Filizola) was used to measure body mass (Kg). A stadiometer of aluminum graduated in millimeters(Sanny) was used to measure stature. The circumferences of relaxed arm, thigh and calf were evaluated using metallic tape-measure and the assessments of body composition were obtained with an adipometer (Lange). The following skinfolds were collected: tricipital, subscapular, abdominal, suprailiac and medial calf. The indicators of motor performance were achieved using a set of four photocells (Speed Test System) and a Jump Test System both of Cefise Lab. The descriptive statistic (mean, standard error and coefficient of variation) was used for statistical analysis of data to characterize the group of this study. ANOVA TWO WAY was applied to define statistical differences between chronological ages with p < 0,001. Results: The curves of evolution of all analyzed variables were normal and constant. The variables about anthropometric were similar in young people aged to 12 years, however, since 13 years old the athletes show difference (p<0,001). The mean of the study population showed higher values when compared with the curves of stature and body mass from NHANES. The physical variables show a similar dynamic at 12 years old and since 13 years old the differences are significant (p<0,001) Conclusion: Young soccer players undergoing systematic training loads show normal anthropometric and physical variables curves. The transition from 12 to 13 years old shows a significant difference for the study variables suggesting that the chronological age cause interference / Mestrado / Ciencia do Desporto / Mestre em Educação Física
