Från bokrum till social mötesplats : En studie av biblioteksbyggnadens funktion och utformning från 1970 till idag / From bookroom to social meeting point : A study of the function and design of the library building from 1970 to today

Järnvall, Emma January 2018 (has links)

"Döm inte boken efter omslaget" : en fallstudie om det Levande biblioteket på folkbibliotek / "Don’t judge the book by its cover" : a case study about the Living library at the public library

Hegnelius Tedenbrant, Karin January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the phenomenon “Living library”, where people are lent out instead of books. First it is looked into what the Living library means to the person who is borrowing a living book and what it means to the living book itself. Than the Living library is put in a public library context. This is done through a case study of the city library of Helsingborg and the city library of Malmö. The theoretical framework consists of an analysis model of the public library constructed by Andersson and Skot-Hansen. Interviews are conducted in order to se what the Living library means to the borrower and to the living book. Text analysis is done in order to see if the intention of the Living library can be a part of the public library activity and the public library’s role in the society. The result indicates that the Living library has several meanings to the borrower and the living book. This in turn can be related to the public library as a centre of knowledge, a centre of culture and a social centre according to Andersson’s and Skot-Hansen’s analysis model. It can also be assumed that the living library gives opportunities to sense making participation. The intention of the Living library is to struggle against prejudice. This is done through knowledge, which can be related to the public library as a center of knowledge according to Andersson’s and Skot Hansen’s analysis model. The Living library can also be a part of the public library’s democratic role in the society because of their common interest in human rights. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Har ni någon bra kärleksroman? : en studie av indexering av skönlitteratur vid stadsbiblioteken i Malmö och Mölndal / Have you got a good love story? : a study of fiction indexing at the public libraries of Malmö and Mölndal

Andersson, Rolf, Holst, Erik January 1995 (has links)
Har ni någon bra kärleksroman? : en studie av indexering av skönlitteratur vid stadsbiblioteken i Malmö och Mölndal. Have you got a good love story? : a study of fiction indexing at the public libraries of Malmö and Mölndal. The thesis analyses interviews with users of two Swedish public libraries to find aspectsof fiction important to users and consequently to be considered when indexing fiction.Descriptions of a novel by 50 users at each library are compared to the index terms usedfor these novels. For the analysis, the authors propose a model of their own based onAnnelise Mark Pejtesen's AMP system for fiction indexing. The authors find that usersprefer to mention concrete aspects like actors, time, geographic location and genre.Malmö did not use genres as indexing terms. Otherwise the indexing terms of bothlibraries usually concerned the same aspects.

Synen på och stödet till Göteborgs stadsbibliotek 1891-1961 / The view of and the support of the City and University Library of Gothenburg 1981-1961

Gustafson, Rebecka, Gustafson Björn, January 1996 (has links)
This master's thesis asks two main questions concerning the history of the City and UniversityLibrary of Gothenburg: what was the prevailing view of the library and its role? Whateconomic support did the library receive and from whom?By critically examining extensive source material mainly from the library archives and cityand state records, these conclusions are drawn: the City and University Library was regardedas a purely scientific library by all involved except the state as early as the 1920s. The state didnot express this view until 1946. The support came almost exclusively from the city ofGothenburg, the state not extending support on a larger scale until 1946 and then onlysporadically. The widely-held view of the library as a scientific one was ignored by the statein its repeated refusals to grant the library support both before and after 1946. ·

Vem lånar vad? : En användarundersökning bland låntagarna av skönlitteratur vid Sundbybergs stadsbibliotek / A User Survey among the Borrowers of Fiction at Sundbybergs´s Town Library

Sahlén, Katarina January 1996 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to find out what kind of fiction 120 borrowers at Sundbyberg'stown library borrow and how they obtain information about the existence of the books theywant to borrow.I have carried out an inquiry among those visiting the fiction area of the library and alsointerviewed three librarians. To be able to compare my results with other more extensivesurveys, I have studied some literature about, e.g. reading and library habits. Furthermore, Ihave read articles about fiction at libraries and culture politics. I came to the conclusion thatcrime novels are the most popular kind of fiction whereas science fiction and fantasy fictionare the least popular ones. As to the way people get ideas about what they want to borrow, themost common way is to browse the shelves and the next common way is to get tips fromfriends.

Västerviks stadsbiblioteks utveckling och dess föregångare 1859-1945 / The public library of Västervik : its forerunners and its development 1859-1945

Karlsson, Anette, Ollas, Karin January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this master’s thesis is to describe and analyse the origin and development of the municipal library of Västervik. There have been four previous libraries and our examination starts in 1859 with the foundation of a parish library. The other forerunners were a working-class movement library and two libraries in the International Orders of Good Templars. Before the merger of the libraries there were discussions in the municipal council, among the working-class movement and in the IOGT. The municipal library was inaugurated in 1908. Algot Johansson, a worker, became the first librarian and he was very important for the development of the municipal library. We conclude our examination 1945, when Algot Johansson retired. As a background and comparison we describe the development of libraries in Sweden and the national policies. As a comparison, we can see, among other things, that Västervik was early with a merger to a municipal library, but late with free loans and subsidies from the state. The national policy from 1930 has been very important for the municipal library. To analyse the origin and development of the municipal library in Västervik we used a theory by Magnus Torstensson, about two perspectives of structures and actors. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Aktörer och strukturer : en studie av Karlstads stadsbiblioteks framväxt / Actors and structures : a study of the early development of Karlstad Public Library

Johansson, Malin January 2008 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the underlying causes for the opening of Karlstad Public Library. In doing so a theory based on the actor/structure model within social theory is used. The structures and actors are intertwined and therefore need to be analysed together. To do so the theory poses a series of questions that needs to be answered. The method used is document analysis. The source material used derives mainly from the municipal archive of Karlstad. As a background and to gain a greater understanding of the process which led to the opening of libraries I describe the general library development in Sweden during the late 19th century and early 20th century. I also describe the societal development in Sweden during this period. The questions earlier posed in the theoretical segment are answered in the result. The economical, political and social structures at the time as well as the actors and their motives for acting are presented. The conclusion of the study shows that the rapid changes of structures led to increased openness towards trying new solutions for the new problems that society was facing at the time. As a part of the actors’ commitment to adult education they acted to achieve a public library. Due to changes in rules concerning grants for adult lecture associations (föreläsningsanstalter) the collaboration with a library to obtain government grants was now important. These were the underlying causes which led to the opening of Karlstad Public Library. / Uppsatsnivå: D
