Individuals’ strategies for wellbeing during the integration process - An empirical study of capabilities and opportunities through the eyes of Syrian refugees in the Canton of Vaud, in Switzerland

Widmer, Irina A. January 2020 (has links)
Integration concerns everyone in society as a constantly on-going process of constructing belonging and participation as a member of the group. The common objective of the process for individuals is to increase their subjective wellbeing, according to their individual values. However, refugees undergo an extreme case of integration, with all aspects of their life being impacted at once. Therefore, to gain more knowledge about the integration process from the perspectives of individuals, nine qualitative interviews were conducted with Syrian refugees living in Switzerland. This thesis then mobilises the capability approach to conduct a thematic comparison. The analysis revealed a common pattern among all interviewees which builds up into a 5-stages integration model, experienced by all interviewees in the same chronological order. Nevertheless, the personal capabilities and opportunities vary, resulting in different strategies to deal with a same context and similar objectives at a specific stage.

Socialsekreterares strategier i arbetet - En kvalitativ studie om hanteringsstrategier i en stressfylld arbetsmiljö

Kärrnäs, Ida, Hoda, Majlinda January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to study social workers’ coping strategies when confronted with a stressful work environment. The focus was on which coping strategies the social workers practiced when they felt overstrained in correlation with work demands. This paper was conducted with qualitative research using the theory Sense of coherence, literature search and semi-structed interviews. Six social workers working in social services were interviewed. We found that structure and explicitness conduced to decrease social workers stress level. Another finding was that social workers used coping strategies such as overtime work, to cope with their work stress. These strategies worked temporarily, but applying them over a long time was not sustainable. Other coping strategies were distance yourself from your clients. Expressing your feelings to your co-workers was a significative coping strategy.

Teaching strategies that teachers use to improve reading and writing in English as first additional language : case study

Lumadi, Thabelo Zacharia January 2016 (has links)
Thesis (M. Ed.) -- University of Limpopo, 2016 / This study reflects on the teaching strategies that that teachers use to improve reading and writing in English FAL in the Acornhoek area of Mpumalanga Province. Since the study wanted to have an in-depth understanding of the strategies that teachers use to improve reading and writing, a qualitative methodology was used. It is within this methodology that a case study was adopted whereby three methods of data collection were used, namely: interviewing, observation and documents. Two schools were selected as sites for the study by means of purposive sampling. The participants interviewed included teachers and learners. The documents consulted included learners class work books, assignments and tests scripts. The researcher also observed lessons that were presented by the teachers. This study found that learners have difficulties in reading and writing, for example, they cannot punctuate, pronounce and spell words correctly. Furthermore, the study also found that teachers were not trained to deal with reading and writing difficulties. This is manifested by the strategies that they use to improve reading and writing, for example, lack of use of repetition which they claimed to use during interviews.

Hultén, Julia, Karlsson, Alexandra January 2020 (has links)
