Teoria de campo da supercorda aberta /

Echevarria, Carlos Alberto Tello. January 2001 (has links)
Abstract: Firstly we present a brief description of the covariant first quantized theories of string, RNS and GS superstring. Also we present a topological description of the superstring. Then we give an introduction to the classical open string field theory formulated by Witten. After that we cosnider the classical open superstring field theory using the RNS variables, we discuss the problem of the divergence that appears in contact terms that is related with picture. The topological formalism allow us to construct an action for the open superstring field theory which is WZW-like. This action solves the divergence problem, and we verify this fact by explicit computation of the scttering amplitude for four external on-shell states. Next, we discuss nonBPS D-branes, tachyon condensation and construct the GSO negative projected vertices for the tachyona and the massless fermion using hybrid variables. Finally we include the GSO (-) sector of the superstring in a generalized WZW-like action. / Doutor

De supergravidade em Ad'S IND. 5' X 'S POT. 5' a N = 4 SYM via superespaço harmônico /

Azevedo, Thales Agricola Calixto de. January 2011 (has links)
The AdS/CFT correspondence, as conjectured by Maldacena, suggests a remarkable equivalence between two apparently unrelated theories, namely a type IIB superstring theory on an AdS5 ×S5 background and a maximally supersymmetric (N = 4) super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory in four dimensions. In this dissertation, we study the relation between the spectrum of the type IIB supergravity theory on AdS5 × S5 (low-energy limit of the superstring theory mentioned above) and the family of gauge-invariant operators inN = 4 SYM described in [P. Howe, P. West, Int. J. Mod. Phys. A 14 (1999) 2659] by making use of a harmonic superspace, mostly based on [P. Heslop, P. Howe, Phys. Lett.B502 (2001) 259]. Moreover, we review the coset space formalism, which is largely used in the present work / Mestre

In the present work, we have provided a review about MHV amplitudes in Yang- Mills and maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. A proof of MHV formula was given in the third chapter. Since twistor formalism provides an interesting framework to study such amplitudes, a discussion about it is also considered as well as its supersymmetric extension. At the end, we have computed MHV four-point and ve-point gluon tree amplitudes in superstring theory, using a prescription given by Berkovits and Maldacena [11]

From Worst-Case to Average-Case Efficiency – Approximating Combinatorial Optimization Problems

Plociennik, Kai 18 February 2011 (has links) (PDF)
In theoretical computer science, various notions of efficiency are used for algorithms. The most commonly used notion is worst-case efficiency, which is defined by requiring polynomial worst-case running time. Another commonly used notion is average-case efficiency for random inputs, which is roughly defined as having polynomial expected running time with respect to the random inputs. Depending on the actual notion of efficiency one uses, the approximability of a combinatorial optimization problem can be very different. In this dissertation, the approximability of three classical combinatorial optimization problems, namely Independent Set, Coloring, and Shortest Common Superstring, is investigated for different notions of efficiency. For the three problems, approximation algorithms are given, which guarantee approximation ratios that are unachievable by worst-case efficient algorithms under reasonable complexity-theoretic assumptions. The algorithms achieve polynomial expected running time for different models of random inputs. On the one hand, classical average-case analyses are performed, using totally random input models as the source of random inputs. On the other hand, probabilistic analyses are performed, using semi-random input models inspired by the so called smoothed analysis of algorithms. Finally, the expected performance of well known greedy algorithms for random inputs from the considered models is investigated. Also, the expected behavior of some properties of the random inputs themselves is considered.

The duality between two-index potentials and the non-linear sigma model in field theory

Zois, Ioannis January 1996 (has links)
We interpret the generalised gauge symmetry introduced in string theory and M-Theory as a special case of Grothendieck's stability equivalence relation in the definition of the 0th K-group and we calculate the Euler number of the elliptic de Rham complex twisted by a flat connection. Then using Polyakov's classical equivalence of flat bundles with non-linear sigma models we define a new topological invariant for foliations using techniques from noncommutative geometry, in particular the Connes' pairing between K-Theory and cyclic cohomology. This new invariant classifies foliations up to Morita equivalence.

Perturbation theory for string sigma models

Bianchi, Lorenzo 22 February 2016 (has links)
In this thesis we investigate quantum aspects of the Green-Schwarz superstring in various AdS backgrounds relevant for the AdS/CFT correspondence, providing several examples of perturbative computations in the corresponding integrable sigma-models. We start by reviewing in details the construction of the type IIB superstring action in AdS5 x S5 background defined as a supercoset sigma model, pointing out the limits of this procedure for backgrounds interesting in lower-dimensional examples of the gauge/gravity duality. We then consider the expansion about the BMN vacuum and the S-matrix for the scattering of worldsheet excitations. To evaluate its elements efficiently we develop a unitarity-based method for general massive two-dimensional field theories. We also analyze the AdS light-cone gauge fixed string in AdS4 x CP3 expanded around a “null cusp” vacuum. The free energy of this model is related to the cusp anomalous dimension of the gauge theory and, indirectly, to a non-trivial effective coupling entering all integrability-based calculations in AdS4/CFT3. We calculate corrections to the superstring partition function of the model, thus deriving the cusp anomalous dimension of ABJM theory at strong coupling up to two-loop order and giving support to a recent conjecture. Finally, we calculate at one-loop the dispersion relation of excitations about the GKP vacuum. Our successful application of unitarity-cut techniques on several examples supports the conjecture that S-matrices of two-dimensional integrable field theories are cut-constructible. Furthermore, our results provide valuable data in support of the quantum consistency of the string actions and furnish non-trivial stringent tests for the quantum integrability of the analyzed models.
