Castillo Carbonell, Miquel 27 May 2005 (has links)
The actual thesis "Present and perspectives of future of the socioeducative programs in open surrounding to the Girona region: an approximate assessment", is structured in three sections of unequal extension. First the theoretical frame composed by six chapters. Secondly the methodological frame director of the research. And finally the conclusions, constituted in three sections where the two first ones make reference to the results of the analysis of the contributions of the fieldwork, while the third one is explicit of the results and final ratifications of the thesis.

A Study about individual contrast sensitivity and preferences for horizontal and vertical lighting intensity

Folkesson, Phliip, Kjellström, Andreas January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to survey and evaluate if the individual contrast sensitivity and preferences for horizontal and vertical lighting level correspond to the values that standard SS-EN 12464-1 recommends for the workplace- and surrounding light levels. This study examines if lighting should be adapted after the individuals’ need or if a general value can be found that will cover every individuals’ need for a workplace and surrounding light level. This study also examines if parameters like sex, age and/or glasses/lenses have an effect on the amount of lighting that the test subjects need. Lastly we compared the values concerning the relationship between workplace- and surrounding light levels with standard SS-EN 12464-1’s recommendations. The study is carried out with an experimental design that surveys 220 test subjects who were chosen by a selection of convenience. The test subjects did perform a test where they estimated their individual need for lighting in office environments regarding lighting for workplace and its surroundings. Every test subject carried out the test where they repeated the same attempt three times, to establish if the individual lighting need oscillated or if it was constant, whereupon the results were analyzed, compiled and compared to standard SS-EN 12464-1. The results show that the minim- and maxim value for the test subjects is between 70 – 4300 lux. The result varies with different parameters such as sex, age and glasses/lenses. We could also state that the relationship between workplace- and surrounding light levels is slightly higher than what standard SS-EN 12464-1 recommends, which should be taken into consideration when planning future lighting constructions. Based on the results in this study, our conclusion is that standard SS-EN 12464-1 does not cover the needs on the comfort levels that the test subjects indicated. The values that the test subjects indicated differ from the values that standard SS-EN 12464-1 recommends. Since there is a huge spread of the experienced need for lighting between individuals and age groups, we draw the conclusion that general values of measure can’t be applied as a standard on neither workplace- nor surrounding light levels. To fulfill the needs that users have, the lighting construction should be adapted for the individual and give a lighting flood that will fill the individual needs for workplace lighting.

The royal commission on espionage 1946-1948: a case study in the mobilization of the Canadian Civil Liberties Movement

Clement, Dominique Thomas 05 1900 (has links)
There exists, at this time, surprisingly little historiography on how civil liberties were shaped and developed in practice throughout Canadian history. An examination of the 1946 Royal Commission on Espionage offers several insights into the nature of the immediate post-World War Two civil liberties movement. The commission was formed in response to the defection of a Russian cipher clerk, Igor Gouzenko, in late 1945. The commission investigated the existence of a Russian-led spy ring that had recruited several Canadian civil servants into disclosing secret information. The commission is unique in Canadian history; dominantly due to the fact that it was empowered under the War Measures Act which granted it enormous powers. Everything from a citizen's right to counsel, habeas corpus, protection from state coercion and the right to a fair trial were circumvented. This work attempts to offer a few answers to some important questions about Canadian civil liberties. What were to consequences of the commission's actions? Does Canadian society accept the need to allow a government to violate individual liberties to protect the integrity of the state? Furthermore, the following article will examine the nature of the civil liberties movement following WWII, including the role of the media and civil liberties' organizations in increasing awareness of the vulnerability of individual rights from state abuse. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the enormous potential in which Parliament could act independently in re-defining Canadians' civil liberties while at the same time demonstrating the central role the Royal Commission on Espionage played in stimulating the post-WWII civil liberties movement. The Royal Commission on Espionage is only one black spot in the history of Canadian civil liberties but there remain many questions to be asked about Canadians' willingness to trust and accept that dictates of the state.

Silva, Francine Borges 14 May 2007 (has links)
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This research allowed to understand the way the Managing Plan of Hydroelectric Plants affects the organization of the territory. The use and occupation of the surrounding of the reservoirs of major hydroelectric enterprises have shown irregularities caused by the inappropiate use of these areas for tourism and recreation. Therefore, this work ananlyses the Managing Plans of the Hydroelectric Plants of Capim Branco I (CBI) and Capim Branco II (CBII) and examines the applicability and inclusion of their guidelines in the Managing Plan of Uberlandia, in order to avoid inadequate use and occupation of the bording of the lakes. The field research is based on the process of elaboration and execution of the Managing Plan of CBI and CBII, which had a participative character and took place from January to June, 2005. The major impacts caused by hydroelectric enterprises in the Basin of Araguari River are the substitution of agricultural activities by touristic and recreational activities, which were stimulated by the artificial lakes of the Hydroelectric Plant of Nova Ponte, Miranda and, recently, of CBI and CBII. The survey has shown that there are other environment impacts in these areas, such as: deforestation of the boundaries of the affluents of Araguari River, contamination/ pollution of the water by waste water emission and large-scale use of fertilizers and pesticides and deviation of watercourses, causing the desorganization of the territory. The research shows that the Managing Plan of CBI and CBII was ignored by the government of Uberlandia, when the Managing Plan of the Municipality was elaborated. Some zones were created to the area of CBI and CBII in a way that only banefits a small social group and do not consider the necessities of local inhabitants. In order to execute succefully the Managing Plan of CBI and CBII, the government of each Municipality will have to determine the priorities, create laws and rules, control and manage financial resources and programs. This present work has emphasized the beginning of a research proposal to the occupation of the surrounding areas of the lakes of CBI and CBII in consonance to the Managing Plan of Uberlandia.

Vliv okolní tkáně na napjatost výdutě mozkových tepen / Influence of the surrounding tissue on the stresses in brain arterial aneurysms

Lipenský, Zdeněk January 2012 (has links)
This thesis is focused on stress in brain aneurysms. It consists of three parts. First part is aimed for gaining information about the topic from scientific resources. Next part consists of analyses of geometry of cerebral aneurysms on the computed wall stress. Analyses are performed on four basic geometrical models and results are being discussed. The risky areas in each investigated shape have been identified as well as the comparisons of stress between those shapes have been performed and the most dangerous shape among investigated shapes has been determined. Third part investigates the influence of surrounding tissue on the brain aneurysm. Conclusion of this thesis is that brain gray tissue has positive yet negligible effect on the computed wall stress.

The Arctic Front : A study using the Securitization Theory to analyse in which way the Arctic region is perceived a security and defence concern within Swedish Arctic discourse

Risfelt, Linnéa January 2024 (has links)
The Arctic region is a region defined by change. Climate change, militarization and a growing interest from both Arctic and non-Arctic states are increasing the geopolitical significance for the region. As a consequence, concerns about the Arctic region's security and what threat the region might constitute have grown.  The following thesis seeks to study in which way the Arctic region is perceived as a security and defence concern by the Swedish government and state agencies in Swedish state discourse from first of January 2019 to the 19th of June 2023. By using arguments from the Copenhagen schools Securitization Theory, the thesis aims to understand to what extent the Swedish state discourse has securitized the Arctic region and what and/or who the is presented as security issues and defence threats. The findings argue that the Swedish Arctic discourse does not securitize the Arctic region, however, patterns of securitization could be found which indicate that the region might be securitized in the future. The Swedish Arctic discourse recognise several security issues and defence threats and present cooperation with other states as well as strengthen military capabilities in northern Sweden as countermeasures. This further indicates that the Swedish Arctic discourse recognise security and defence concerns connected to the Arctic region even if they are not presented by the terms of securitization.
