Neste trabalho, estudamos a dinâmica destas partículas no anel e aplicamos métodos para a otimização da abertura dinâmica / Abstract: A new electron storage ring, Sirius, is being designed for the production of high brightness synchrotron light at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), in Campinas. To achieve high brightness, strong focusing of the beam is required, leading to strong non-linearities in the magnetic elds, which limit the region of stable motion of the electrons. In this work we study the dynamics of these particles in the ring and apply methods for the optimisation of the dynamic aperture / Mestrado / Mestre em Física

Aplicações da radiografia por contraste de fase na visualização de articulações e cartilagens / Applications of phase contrast radiography in articular cartilage image

Orientador: Carlos Manuel Giles Antunez de Mayolo / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Física Gleb Wataghin / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-19T11:26:29Z (GMT). In this dissertation we have produced in vitro joint and cartilages images by two especific methods of phase contrast imaging: Diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) method and Propagation method. The DEI setup was implemented at the XRD2 beamline of the Brazilian National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) in Campinas. The propagation method setup was implemented at the X-ray applied Crystallography Laboratory (LCARX) using a microfocus source (5 µm), that was installed inside of an experimental hut shielded with lead. The samples used were test objects and specimens of joints and cartilages provided by the group of Dr. William Dias Belangero of School of Medical Sciences (FCM-UNICAMP). In the Crystallography Laboratory was built an experimental station to perform tomography with a microfocus source. At this station pictures were realized by the conventional method and the propagation method. At the same laboratory was realized a study in order to colaborate the FCM group, using clinical cases of metal implants in prosthetic joints, we studied the regeneration of bone tissue after the injury to fixation of the prosthesis, using in vitro samples of injured legs of rats. Finally, tomographic acquisitions of rat and rabbit knees were performed in the conventional method and propagation method. The images obtained by the propagation method of both test objects and biological samples show that there is a better image quality, with high contrast in the edges and visualization of structures that are not visible on conventional radiographs. The same happens with the tomographic reconstructions, showing details of the anatomy of the sample, facilitating the visualization of soft tissue damage. This technique has the advantage of not requiring any optical instrumentation, only exploring the focal size of the X-ray source and the distance between sample and detector. In the LNLS was used the XRD2 beamline with 10,34 keV of energy to perform diffraction enhanced images using the detector Pilatus. The diffraction enhanced images had higher quality because this system uses an analyzer crystal placed after the sample. This crystal serves as a narrow angular slit which resulted in images with gain in contrast as compared to the conventional images methods / Mestrado / Física / Mestra em Física

Calculation of coupled bunch effects in the synchrotron light source BESSY VSR

Ruprecht, Martin 29 February 2016 (has links)
In the scope of this thesis, the strength of coupled bunch instabilities (CBIs) driven by longitudinal monopole higher order modes (HOMs) and transverse dipole and quadrupole HOMs is evaluated for the upgrade project BESSY Variable Pulse Length Storage Ring (BESSY VSR) at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH (HZB), based on analytic calculations and tracking simulations, and compared to the performance of an active bunch-by-bunch feedback (BBFB). Algorithms for tracking codes are derived, and a semi-empirical formula for the estimation of transverse quadrupole CBIs is presented. CBI studies are an integral part of the benchmarking of the cavity models for BESSY VSR and have been accompanying and influencing their entire design process. Based on the BESSY VSR cavity model with highly advanced HOM damping, beam stability is likely to be reached with a BBFB system, independent of the bunch fill pattern. Additionally, measurements of CBIs have been performed at BESSY II and the Metrology Light Source of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (MLS), where the longitudinal long range impedance was characterized. Transient beam loading is evaluated by means of analytic formulas and new experimentally verified tracking codes. For the baseline bunch fill pattern of BESSY VSR, it is shown that the particular setup of cavity frequencies amplifies the transient effect on the long bunch, limiting its elongation and potentially resulting in increased Touschek losses.

Two-Dimensional Bunch-Resolved Optical Beam Diagnostics at BESSY II

Koopmans, Marten 05 April 2022 (has links)
BESSY II is a third generation light source operated by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH for experiments with synchrotron radiation. Multiple operation modes are offered or are under development at the BESSY II storage ring to serve the needs of its diverse user community. This does not only include a complex fill pattern in standard operation, but also special operation modes featuring short pulses or the new transverse resonant island buckets separation scheme. The complexity of the fill pattern requires bunch-resolved diagnostics for commissioning and to ensure the long-term quality of accelerator operation. In addition, short pulse operation demands bunch length measurements with ps resolution. For this purpose a new diagnostics platform featuring multiple beamlines is set up. One beamline is dedicated for transverse beam size measurements and one for longitudinal diagnostics. Both beamlines are equipped with fast gated devices for bunch-resolved measurements. Design, installation and improvements of these beamlines and the measuring devices are the main focus of this work, together with specific BESSY II bunch diagnostics applications. In general, coupling between time- and space-coordinates do call for bunch-selective and correlated multi-parameter detection methods. Thus, the longitudinal diagnostics beamline and the streak camera have been made capable of direct transverse beam-profile imaging and even interferometric beam size measurements are feasible. Either the horizontal or vertical beam dimension can be imaged in addition to the time axis of the streak camera and 2D measurements are possible. Taking advantage of these capabilities, multiple bunch-resolved 2D measurements have been performed and analysis methods have been developed.

Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for plant growth. Million of tones of P are applied to the soils annually. Transverse Resonance Island Buckets at BESSY II / A new Bunch Separation Scheme

Armborst, Felix 03 February 2022 (has links)
The increasing demand for synchrotron radiation facilities has led to a continuously increasing offer around the world. The scientific user community of storage-ring-based light sources requires ever-higher brightness and many are also interested in special time structures of the radiation such as short pulse lengths and certain repetition rates. This has led to continuous upgrades of existing and the construction of many new machines around the world. The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH (HZB) operates the third generation light source Berlin Electron Storage Ring Society for SYnchrotron Radiation (BESSY) II. Operation of the storage-ring-based light source BESSY II in proximity of the third-order, transverse, optical tune resonance with Transverse Resonance Island Buckets (TRIBs) optics enables storage of current on a second stable orbit winding around the core orbit in the transverse x-x′ -phase space. This second orbit closes after three revolutions, resulting in a tune approximately three times that of the core tune. The stable island orbit provides the possibility to populate each of the 400 Radio Frequency (RF) buckets, defined by the 500 MHz cavities at BESSY II not only on the core but also additionally or exclusively on one or all three of the corresponding transverse island buckets of the threefold island orbit. This provides unique bunch separation possibilities with the appropriate population of each orbit. The population of one orbit with single bunches enables dedicated utilisation of this orbit for timing experiments and gives all beamlines with sufficient acceptance access to time-resolved experiments. The bunch separation is realised by aligning each beamline with the desired orbit. Thus, this operation mode represents a possibility to enhance the timing capabilities at BESSY II and storage ring based light sources in general.
