In India the national and the state</p><p>governments have for a long time undertaken the primary responsibility for water management. In recent years however, there has been a clear shift of policy towards increased reliance on the local communities. This thesis deals with the capacity of rural communities in India to manage their water resources in a sustainable way.</p><p>Through a case study of water management in a South Indian village opportunities and barriers for rural communities in India to manage their water resources in a sustainable way is analysed. The thesis deals with both formal and informal institutions involved in the water management.Factors that can promote and obstruct locals’ contribution in water management are discussed. Also the role of external actors such as NGOs, the Panchayats and the government is dealt with, and how they may facilitate a development towards sustainability and increased locals’ contribution in order to achieve a sustainable community bases water management.</p><p>Theories on collective action and the commons have been used in the analysis. These theories deal with how to get people to cooperate regarding the management of common resources such as water in order to achieve higher collective benefits. <p>Detta arbete syftar till att undersöka vilket konventionellt ballistiskt skydd som krävs för att undvika penetration från finkalibriga projektiler, RSV-stridsdelar samt penetrerande stridsvagnsmina. Arbetet tar sitt ursprung i en handbok utgiven av FMV där stridsdelar som kan förekomma i Afghanistan behandlas. Handboken anger data och prestanda för dessa stridsdelar och det är därifrån arbetet tar uppgifter om genomslagsförmåga för stridsdelen. Syftet med undersökningen är att genom en jämförande modellstudie ta fram ett eller flera sätt att nedkämpa en motståndare utrustad med tungt reaktivt pansar. Reaktivt pansar har tidigare endast använts för att hindra RSV-strålar att penetrera pansar. Men teknikutvecklingen har nu medfört att dagens reaktiva pansar utöver skydd mot RSV-strålar också klarar av att reducera pilprojektilens förmåga till penetration. Amerikanarna som tidigt upptäckte att Ryssland hade tillgång till tekniken började direkt utveckla ny ammunition för att möta detta. Men vad har vi gjort i Sverige, sen detta uppdagades? Kan vår Stridsvagn 122 fortfarande lösa sin huvuduppgift: att slå ut andra stridsvagnar? I studien gör författaren antagandet att spårljuspansarprojektil 95 inte får genomslag på en stridsvagn utrustad med tungt reaktivt pansar, typ Kontakt-5. Undersökningen har sin tyngdpunkt i den jämförande modellstudie som skall jämföra tre olika scenarion. Modellstudien föregås av en beskrivande teoridel där bland annat skydd, svensk stridsvagnsammunition och reaktivt pansar beskrivs. Därefter behandlar modellstudien en duellsituation mellan Strv 122 och en motståndare utrustad med Kontakt-5. De olika modellerna jämförs i syfte att ta fram den modellen som är mest fördelaktig då man vill nedkämpa en fiende utrustad med Kontakt-5. Slutsatsen som dras utifrån studien är att normalförfarandet att initialt ha pilprojektil i kanonen bör ändras till att istället ha spränggranat. Spränggranaten kommer att skada Kontakt-5 och skapa en oskyddad yta där pilprojektilen kan få genomslag. / The purpose of this essay is to develop one or more ways to neutralize an enemy equipped with heavy reactive armour. Reactive armour has previously only protected against shaped charges. Technological advances have now led to today's reactive armour in addition to protection against shaped charges also capable of protecting against an Armour-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS). The Americans discovered that this technology was available to the Russians and developed new types of APFSDS to deal with it. But what have we done in Sweden since this technology was discovered? In this essay, the author makes the assumption that the Swedish APFSDS can’t penetrate a tank equipped with reactive armour. A comparative model will compare three different ways to deal with this problem. Before doing the comparative model study, there will be a chapter which describes for example reactive armour, APFSDS, Kontakt-5 (a type of reactive armour), tank protection in general. The model consists of one Leopard 2A5 S (Leo 2) and one enemy tank equipped with reactive armour. By comparing different ways for the Leo 2 to defeat the enemy, the author will reach a conclusion for the problem. The conclusion drawn from this essay is that the normal procedure when the Leo 2 initially has an APFSDS loaded in the canon should be changed to it having a grenade loaded instead. Bursting a grenade towards the enemy will destroy or damage Kontakt-5 and the second projectile, which should be an APFSDS, will now penetrate the damaged Kontakt-5 and the hostile tank will be defeated.

There are many types of bioreactors used for producing bacteria populations in commercial, medical and research applications. This report presents a systematic discussion of some of the most important models corresponding to the well known reproduction kinetics such as the Michaelis-Menten kinetics, competitive substrate inhibition and competitive product inhibition. We propose a modification of a known model, analyze it in the same manner as known models and discuss the most popular types of bioreactors and ways of controlling them. This work summarises much of the known results and may serve as an aid in attempts to design new models.

Optimization of recombinant bacterial fermentations for pharmaceutical productionBaheri, Hamid Reza 01 January 1998 (has links)
Two computer programs were developed and used to determine the optimum operating parameters of a fedbatch and a continuous two-stage process for fermentation of recombinant bacteria. The study was conducted in three phases: (a) developing two computer programs for simulation and optimization of the above processes, (b) conducting batch culture fermentations to verify the performance of the biokinetic model, and (c) conducting fedbatch and two-stage continuous fermentation experiments to closely examine the simulation and optimization results. The Miao and Kompala (1992) biokinetic model was used for simulation of the bacterial growth and cloned gene expression. The Pattern-Search method, developed by Hooke and Jeeves (1962), was incorporated in the programs to determine the optimum values of the parameters. Extensive studies of the optimization results showed 30-40% higher productivities for the two stage continuous process over the fedbatch process when using the same media in both processes. In addition, increasing the number of stages in the continuous two-stage process resulted in very limited improvement in the productivity of the process (10-12%). The information from the process optimization was then used to design batch, fedbatch nd two stage continuous experiments. Recombinant <i>E. coli </i>(strain BL21DE3) with an inducible gene (sensitive to IPTG, isopropyl-â-D-thiogalactopyranoside) was used throughout the experiments. The experimental results from the fedbatch and two stage continuous processes clearly showed good agreement with the simulation and optimization results $(\cong$15% deviation). The experiments also revealed that the maintenance of plasmid harboring cells over the long-term operation could be an important barrier in achieving the predicted high productivity in the two stage continuous process. Finally, in addition to computer programs for optimization of genetically modified microorganisms, a new computer program with a generic algorithm for optimization of multiple CFSTR fermentation with any kind of biokinetic model was developed. The program was used to optimize multiple CFSTRs with the cybernetic biokinetic model for the first time. Besides finding the optimum residence times for multiple CFSTRs operation, the effect of inaccuracies in different cybernetic model parameters on the overall productivity of the process was investigated. The simulation results illustrated that, a single CFSTR was more sensitive in its operation to inaccuracies in the biokinetic constants as compared to optimized CFSTRs in series (2-8 times more sensitive).

αναζήτηση πάνω στο θέμα των των υποβρύχιων ασύρματων δικτύων
αισθητήρων και στην συνέχεια αγοράστηκε ο κατάλληλος εξοπλισμός
για την πραγματοποίηση των πειραμάτων. Με την χρήση του ολοκληρωμένου εξοπλισμού evaluation kit EK010-JN5148, δημιουργήσαμε
ένα δίκτυο μεταξύ ενός συντονιστή, ενός δρομολογητή και διαϕόρων
τερματικών συσκευών. Ο δρομολογητής και οι τερματικές συσκευές
πραγματοποιούν μετρήσεις της θερμοκρασίας στο υδάτινο περιβάλλον
και ο δρομολογητής είναι υπεύθυνος για την μεταϕορά των πληροϕοριών εκτός του υποβρύχιου περιβάλλοντος, στον συντονιστή, ο οποίος
απεικονίζει τα πακέτα δεδομένων στην LCD οθόνη. Με αυτό τον τρόπο,
ο χρήστης βλέπει ανά πάσα στιγμή τις μετρήσεις που τον ενδιαϕέρουν,
αλλά και ταυτόγχρονα παρακολουθεί την ισχύ του δικτύου στα διάϕορα βάθη,στα οποία εμβυθίζονται οι μικροεπεξεργαστές που ϕέρουν
τους αισθητήρες.
Απώτερος στόχος της εργασίας είναι η εξοικείωση του αναγνώστη με
το αντικείμενο των ασύρματων δικτύων υποβρύχιων αισθητήρων και η
ανάδειξη της χρησιμότητάς τους μέσω των πολυάριθμων εϕαρμογών
τους. Τα πειράματα που πραγματοποιήθηκαν έδωσαν ένα αριθμό κριτηρίων για την διαπίστωση της ισχύος των ηλεκτρομαγνητικών κυμάτων στο νερό και τελευταίο και μη αμελητέο η εϕαρμογή που δημιουργήθηκε αποτελεί μία σημαντική λύση στο πρόβλημα ανίχνευσης της στάθμης των λυμάτων σε μία δεξαμενή γεμισμένη με νερό και λύματα,
ουσίες οι οποίες πρέπει να διαχωριστούν στην συνέχεια.
Στα πλαίσια της διπλωματικής εργασίας, έγινε λεπτομερής μελέτη της λειτουργίας του Υδροηλεκτρικού Σταθμού του Γλαύκου στην περιοχή της Αχαίας και των αναγκών του σταθμού, όπου και στο τέλος προτάθηκαν λύσεις για την βελτίωση και διευκόλυνση της ετήσιας πραγματοποίησης μετρήσεων πάνω στην ποιότητα του αρδεύσιμου νερού,
χρησιμοποιώντας τον αγορασθέντα εξοπλισμό. / The object of this thesis is to create an underwater wireless sensor network for the embodiment of the level measurement of a tank filled with water and wastewater. A search in literature was conducted on the topic of underwater wireless sensor network, in order to further purchase the appropriate equipment to perform the experiments. Using the integrated equipment kit EK010-JN5148, a network was created between a coordinator device, a router device and various terminals. The router and terminal devices operate temperature measurements in the aquatic environment, while the router has the additional role to transfer the gathered information to the coordinator, who is placed outside the aquatic environment. Afterwards, the coordinator illustrates the data packets on the LCD screen for the user to see. The advantage of the network utilization is that the user can benefit from the update of the information and choose the way to depict them and concurrently monitor the power of the network in various depths.
The ultimate goal of this paper is to familiarize the reader with the object of underwater wireless sensor networks highlighting their usefulness through numerous applications. The experiments that were carried out provide criteria to determine the effect of the electromagnetic waves in water. Finally, through coding in language C, an application was created to serve as a solution to the problem of detecting the level of water waste in an industrial tank and give necessary information to facilitate its separation later in the process. During the thesis, a detailed study was made on the operation of a hydroelectric power plant in Glavkos in the region of Achaea, Greece. Solutions including the use of the kit EK010-JN5148 were proposed in order to enhance and facilitate the annual measurements on the quality of the irrigable water.

Pateiktos rekomendacijos tirtos saulės kolektorinės vandens šildymo sistemos administraciniam personalui. / Master's thesis analyses vacuum solar collectors for water heating system energy parameters, indicators and construction. Also vacuum solar collector system energy characteristics. The work consists of two component parts: the analytical and practical parts of the research. In the analytical part is an overview of the different types of solar collector performance, solar water heating systems operation and utilization. Short overview of surplus energy utilization possibilities and solar system design principle. In the practical part of the thesis is investigated solar collector water heating system under production conditions. Revealed mechanism of the system, investigated thermal performance under different operating conditions. In the end of research thesis conclusions are formulated. Recommendations were given for tested solar collector water heating system administrative personnel.
