Self-Expansion and Romantic Partner Request for Friendship TerminationWages, Emily C 01 January 2016 (has links)
According to self-expansion theory, there is an innate drive to gain new resources, identities, and perspectives, which causes people to seek and maintain interpersonal relationships. However, an individual’s relationship partners may come into conflict with each other. In the current research, 656 adults in established monogamous romantic relationships completed an online questionnaire about romantic partners asking them to give up a friendship. The researcher explored the prevalence of this friendship interference phenomenon and its relationship to sources of self-expansion. The amount of self-expansion provided by a friendship was manipulated through vignettes. Additional measures assessed the relationship between amount of self-expansion provided by the partner and gained independently as well as desire for self-expansion on willingness to give up the proposed friendship. Further measures assessed whether a current or previous partner had requested a friendship termination, partner’s reasoning given for the request, whether the participant acquiesced to the request, and the degree to which the request contributed to break-up.
Results showed that about 1/3 of people had been asked by a romantic partner to terminate a friendship, with 73% asked acquiescing to a current partner’s request, and 34% acquiescing to a previous partner’s request. Contrary to what was predicted, no gender difference was found for rate of acquiescence to partner’s request for friendship termination. Sexual orientation, age, and desire for self-expansion significant predicted willingness to give up a friendship. Additionally, participants were mostly willing to give up the friendship when their partnership was highly self-expanding but the friendship was not, and willingness declined when the friendship was highly self-expanding, regardless of how self-expanding the partnership.

This study deals with employment agreements: the Swedish Storsjö Agreement for officers and telegraphists, Faroese Employment Agreement for Swedish officers and the ITF Uniform ”TCC” Collective Agreement for crews onboard flag of convenience ships. The purpose of the comparison was to determine differences between the agreements concerning termination, economical compensation for illness and injury cases and liability in case of default in regards of social security. The method of the work was a qualitative literature study. Storsjö Agreement and the Faroese Agreement is relatively similar to each other regarding termination of the contract, while the ITF Agreement differ from the other agreements. Regarding economical compensation for illness and injury cases all the agreements provides a safety net for the officer. The compensation with Storsjö Agreement is based on the Swedish Social Insurance Agency payouts, while the Faroese Agreement and ITF Agreement have separate insurance policies that the company arranges to individual officers. Regarding liability due to default, the ITF Agreement contract differ since it does not have to be any exceptional reasons for the default, which is required in Storsjö Agreement and the Faroese Agreement, to make the officer personally responsible for the damage. The comparison gives a good insight into how the contracts are structured around national laws and/or the lack of them. Generally Storsjö Agreement is more reassuring than the Faroese Agreement and the ITF Agreement concerning social security.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES AND RESOURCES OF THE EXTENDED TEST RANGE ALLIANCEMackall, Dale A., Sakahara, Robert D. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1999 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The Edwards Flight Test Range is a part of 20,000 square miles of DOD airspace (R-2508). A hypersonic air vehicle traveling above Mach 3 can easily exceed that airspace
within seconds. An Unpiloted Autonomous Vehicle can exceed the airspace when flying
long duration missions. To satisfy the flight-test requirements of Hypersonic Air Vehicles
and Unpiloted Autonomous Vehicles, additional airspace and extended test ranges are
required. The Air Force Flight Test Center and Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards
Air Force Base, California have mutual goals to support these flight test programs. To
meet these goals, the Extended Test Range Alliance was formed as an engineering and
operations team to satisfy program requirements in the areas of telemetry, flight
termination, ground communications, uplink command, and differential global positioning
systems. This paper will discuss the resources and technical capabilities available through
the Extended Test Range.

Psychological effects of retirement on elite athletesMarthinus, Jantjie M. 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (PhD (Sport Science))—University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / This study was designed to gain a better understanding of the way in which
the quality of the sport-career termination is quantitatively affected by
athletic and non-athletic factors. A further objective of this study was to
contribute and broaden the knowledge base on the athletic careertermination
process and endeavour to add new information to the existent
body of knowledge on the career-ending process in the world of sport. This
study is a sport-specific view on South African track and field and road
running athletes’ retrospective views on their retirement. In line with the
relevant literature, the influence of athletic (voluntariness and gradualness
of sport-career termination, subjective view of athletic achievements, postsport
life planning, and athletic identity) and non-athletic factors (e.g., age,
educational status) on different aspects of sport-career difficulties was
investigated.
In phase 1 of the research, 104 retired track and field athletes completed an
adapted version of the Cecic-Erpic’s (2000) Sports Career Termination
Questionnaire II (SCTQ II). These athletes had been retired for no less than
one year with an athletic career at national and international level and were
asked to describe in retrospect their experiences and reactions to their
athletic career termination.
The SCTQII was developed to evaluate the characteristics of the sport-career
termination process, the characteristics of the active sport-careertermination
transition to post-sport life, and adaptation to post-sport life.
In phase 2 of the study, 23 retired South African elite athletes were
individually interviewed. An interview guide was developed which probed the
sport career of the athletes in depth, from the initial start to the sport career
to the process of disengaging from elite sport. The data from the interviews
were content analysed.

Reproductive Health and Behavior: The Role of Abuse and Couple Pregnancy IntentCha, Susan 01 January 2015 (has links)
Background: Rapid repeat pregnancy (RRP), a pregnancy occurring less than 24 months from a prior birth, and unintended pregnancy-related induced abortions can be prevented with family planning. However, few studies have adequately addressed the role of male partners in reproductive decision-making. Objectives: The goal of this research is to understand the interrelationships between couple pregnancy intention, intimate partner violence (IPV), reproductive health and behaviors. Specifically, this project aims to: (1) examine the extent to which couple pregnancy intentions are associated with RRP and (2) induced abortions among women in the U.S., and (3) examine the extent to which IPV around the time of pregnancy is associated with postpartum birth control use by race/ethnicity and receipt of prenatal contraceptive counseling among U.S. women with live births. Methods: This project uses data from the 2006-2010 National Survey on Family Growth (NSFG), and the 2004-2008 national Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS). RRP and induced abortion of first pregnancy were self-reported in the NSFG. Couple pregnancy intentions were categorized as: both intended (M+P+), both unintended (M-P-), maternal intended and paternal unintended (M+P-), maternal unintended and paternal intended (M-P+). Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationships between couple pregnancy intentions and RRP and induced abortion. Data on IPV and postpartum contraceptive use came from PRAMS. Stratified analyses were conducted to assess differences in the association by race/ethnicity and receipt of prenatal contraceptive counseling. Results: Compared to couples where pregnancy was intended by both, those with discordant pregnancy intentions and both unintended pregnancy had greater odds of induced abortion. The odds of RRP was higher for M-P+ couples and lower for M+P- couples. Abused women were significantly less likely to report postpartum contraceptive use. This was particularly true for Hispanic women who reported no prenatal birth control counseling and all other racial/ethnic groups who received birth control counseling. Conclusion: Health providers may need to consider the interpersonal dynamics of couple-based decision-making and behaviors to prevent RRP and induced abortions due to unintended pregnancy. Providers should discuss contraceptive options that are not partner-dependent within the context of abusive relationships.

Projevy flexicurity při vzniku a skončení pracovního poměru / Manifestations of flexicurity in the creation and termination of the employment relationship in the Czech RepublicRöslerová, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
The theme and objective of this thesis is to assess legislation regulating creation and termination of employment with regard to the concept of flexicurity. The thesis draws attention to some elements of this regulation, pointing out its flexibility on one hand and protection aspects on the other hand, and offering some possible solutions according to intended law. At the same time the flexicurity concept as such is explained, as well as legislation regulating creation and termination of employment. The specific nature of labour law, the subject of labour law, principles applied in this branch of law, and the relationship between labour law and civil law are dealt with in the first chapter. In the second chapter is explained the concept of flexicurity and its components, namely flexibility and security, further division of those, and also described the Danish labour market model. The crucial term of this paper, flexicurity, arose as a combination of terms flexibility and security, or freedom and protection. Flexicurity is a modern concept or strategy of the labour market, which counts on a balanced combination of elements of protection and flexibility, both within the framework of labour law,...

Observance thérapeutique et défaut d'observance thérapeutique en contraception orale / Therapeutic adherence and therapeutic defect of adherence in oral contraceptionHamraoui, Mounia 16 December 2011 (has links)
Objectives and assumptions : This thesis aims explore the causes of non adherence in oral contraception which lead to TOP among women however under contraception. We formulated 3 assumptions: there are significant differences between the women presenting adherence problems and those without problems. The 2nd assumption supposes the existence of significant relations between the causes of non adherence and the general motivation. The 3rd assumption states the existence of significant differences between the averages of the two groups concerning the causes in non adherence, the general motivation and its various components. Population : A survey was carried out based on a sample of 50 women users of oral contraception in Amiens, including a group of 25 women which exhibit adherence problems. Tools : Two questionnaires were developed within the framework of this thesis, 1) A questionnaire on adherence in oral contraception and a scale for the evaluation of the causes of non adherence in oral contraception. 2) A Scale of Global Motivation EMG28 intended to evaluate the degree of motivation for adherence to oral contraception by examining the self-determination degree of motivation in life in general. Results : Collected data confirm the assumptions posed. It reveals existence of causes of non observance related on the user (missing pills, beliefs, fear of undesirable effects, information lack, on the oral contraception (routine, lassitude, constraints …) and the relation between the prescriber and the user (therapeutic relation, quality of information given, model of prescription). Conclusion : The process of use of oral contraception appears very complex. A motivational therapy is necessary among women in situation of failure of contraception, as we show it with clinical cases presented.
