Thirty patients (9 men; 21 women) (N=62 distal implants) were followed, with 25 in maxilla and 37 in the mand?ble, at the PUCRS college of dentistry, after 1 and 3 years of prosthesis installation. The prosthetic cantilever measurement was performed during the treatment rehabilitation and the mesio-distal inclination of the most distal implants was obtained with computed tomography (CBCT), intraoral digital radiographs of the distal implants were obtained with customized devices at baseline, 1 and 3 years after prostheses installation. The mean bone loss after 1 year was 0,23?0,36mm after 1 and 3 years was 0,28?0,41mm and after 3 years was 0,35?0,49mm, the mean cantilever extension was 9.91?5.98 and the mean inclination of the implants was 8.68?5.97 in the mesial and 6.46?5.58 in the distal side. There was no statistical correlation between marginal bone loss, cantilever extension and mesiodistal inclination of the most distal implant, after one year of follow-up, where the data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation coefficient (?=5%). It can be concluded that the extension of the distal cantilever and the mesio-distal inclination of the implant in FCDIs not showed relation with marginal bone loss in the most distal implant adjacent to the cantilever.

Two cobalt-chromium base metal alloys were cast to prefabricated Co-Cr cast-to implant cylinders. The cylinders were placed in the abutments and mounted in epoxy resin. Three groups were formed according with base alloy. Group 1: Cylinder as manufactured (Control); Group 2: lower melting temperature alloy; Group 3: higher melting temperature alloy. The specimens were ground to their central portion longitudinally by a surface grinding machine, polished and evaluated by optical and scanning electron microscopy. The images were analyzed and the misfit areas between the cylinders and abutments were, if present, measured. For statistical evaluation of misfit areas ANOVA multivariate analysis and Tukey tests were used. Pre-fabricated cast-to cylinders which received higher melting temperature alloy showed significant differences in terms of marginal misfit. No significant differences were observed comparing the control and the lower melting temperature alloy group. Co-Cr casting alloy with a higher melting temperature cast on prefabricated Co-Cr implant cylinders might induce greater marginal misfit areas. The selected alloy for compound casting must not exceed the melting temperature of prefabricated implant cylinder base as recommended by manufactures.

Technological development and immense diagnostic possibilities through complementary examinations have led to the idea of lesser importance of anamnesis and physical examination. Objective: To evaluate the undergraduate medical student's ability to perform a correct clinical diagnosis, from the presentation of clinical cases with information only from anamnesis or anamnesis and clinical examination together, without complementary exams. Methodology: A cross-sectional, exploratory study with quantitative data analysis of four clinical cases (two with isolated anamnesis and two with anamnesis and physical examination) answered by the students as a teaching task of the Medical Clinic discipline, with 97 academics from the School of Medicine of PUCRS from 2016 to 2017. Results: The findings showed that the majority of the students who participated in the study were female (54 subjects - 55.7%), predominantly white (94 - 96.9%), on average of 24.1 (+ 2.3) years old, having correctly determined 177 diagnoses (45.62%) in the first hypothesis. There was a significant difference (p <0.001) when compared the number of correct diagnosis in clinical cases with isolated anamnesis 108 (55.6%) to those with anamnesis and physical examination 69 (35.6%). Conclusion: It was verified that, for the undergraduate medical students of the fourth year from the School of Medicine, the correct answers in the first diagnosis were more frequent and with statistical significance, when clinical cases with isolated anamnesis were offered than when it was offered anamnesis and physical examination.

Occurs as a result, a great difficulty accepting this inability on the part of the family, and the very elderly, there is a need to make them aware of this difficulty, and how it is harmful. In this age group there is a natural tendency to isolation, volunteer, and these elderly deprive of full social life, and as a result, may lead to varying levels of depression. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of hearing aids on quality of life and hearing in older adults with hearing impairment. The study included 50 older adults. Being 29 females and 21males, aged over 60 years. After completing the battery of audiological tests were divided into two groups: G1 ? Intervention Group, with made use of hearing aids, and G2 ? Control Group, who did not use hearing aids. In all test was applied HHIE-s, MMSE, and WHOQOL-Bref before the use of hearing aids and 12 weeks after. We conducted weekly monitoring to ensure effective adaptation and use of prostheses adapted. In G1, the analysis of the HHIE is showed that the scores Scale Emotional and Scale Social/Situational post in the of hearing aids, showed statistically significant compared to the G2, which remained unchanged. The results of the MMSE in the post intervention period showed no statistically significant differences comparing the two groups. In the test WHOQOL-Bref the same fact occurred because the changes were not statistically significant. The use of hearing aids for the elderly provides a lower perception of participation constraints observed through the use of self-perception questionnaire HHIE-S. The quality of life improves, demonstrated by WHOQOL in the physical domain, compared with seniors who do not use hearing amplification. There was also an improvement in the MMSE test scores, compared with the group without amplification. Em todos foram aplicados os testes Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly ? Screening Version (HHIE-S), MiniExame do Estado Mental (MEEM) e World Health Organization Quality of Life Bref (WHOQOL-Bref), antes do uso das pr?teses auditivas e 12 semanas ap?s.

Amazonian Northwest Region) This work is consistent with a descriptive experiment on the upper Negro river ways and uses of knowledge, beginning at the high Tiquie River (a tributary of the Uaupés River, municipality of Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazon), where the interlocutors of this work were born and raised, today dispersed among the high Tiquié, Sao Gabriel, Manaus... Presenting my anthropological perspective among the Tuyuka, I analyze perceptions circa the generation and transformation processes of the most valued considered knowledge (niromakañe). With analytical emphasis on knowledge networks, I describe agnation aspects or vitalities as they are transmittet through male lines, Agnation which is carried out on new ways under overture to the exterior (softening of protection practices and nomination, alternative modes of knowledge circulation and its efficacy in the composition of souls, bodies, thoughts).

A sample of 21 dental implants placed in 10 patients with Branemark protocol prostheses was evaluated in the periimplant area in image exams of the post-surgery control using periapical radiography (paralleling technique), panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The radiographic density of different areas bounded near the dental implants were calculated and compared considering their locations and the imaging exams using the software ImageJ. Regarding the different imaging exams, the CBCT showed significant differences between the measured areas (p<0.001), while in periapical (p=0.430) and panoramic (p=0.149) radiographs did not occur significant difference between the gray mean values in these areas. Comparing the areas in the three exams it was observed larger values next to the implants in all exams: CBCT (126.20 and 127.44) panoramic radiography (106.51 and 106.09) and periapical radiography (120.32). The more distant areas and the areas closest to neighboring implants had significant different values in the two reconstructed images of CBCT when compared to the panoramic and periapical radiographs. The interference of dental implants in acquiring radiographic and tomographic exams was confirmed by altered radiographic density mean values in the peri-implant area. Comparing the three exams it was noticed that the CBCT image showed the most significant interference of the dental implants.

Were assessed screws of UCLA's pillars of titanium Neodent? brand and 3i BIOMET? and of titanium with surface treated with tungsten carbide Neodent? brand. Two techniques of utilization of the screws were compared, the technique I, recommended by the manufacturer with only the definitive torque, and the technique II , utilized in broad scale in Brazil where multiple torques are applied in the same screw simulating the clinical steps, up to definitive installation. The initial weight of all the screws (T0) was registered, in the screws of technique I, it was given definitive torque (32N.cm to Neodent? and 20N.cm to 3i BIOMET?) submitted to mechanical cycling and the final weight (TF) registered. In the screws of technique II have been applied opening and closing cycles, and their weights registered (T1, T2 and T3) before applying the definitive torque and mechanical cycling after the final weight has been registered (TF). The morphologies and the surface compositions of the screws were evaluated using SEM and EDS at each time. The results showed significant weight loss in the three screws groups, of technique I (p = 0.005 for uncoated Neodent?, p = 0.007 for coated Neodent? and p = 0.001 to 3i BIOMET?) and on two the steps of the three groups of technique II (p <0.001 for all groups), and comparing the final weight of the screws of the two techniques, the screws of the technique I, showed significantly higher values than the screws, of the technique II (p = 0.007 for uncoated Neodent?, p = 0.009 for coated Neodent? and p = 0.001 to 3i BIOMET?), as well as SEM showed less permanent deformation for the technique I. EDS showed no major changes in the surface compositions. Therefore, the use of the definitive screw only at time of final torque can minimize problems regarding to the loosening the retaining screws of implant supported prostheses.

DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) images from 37 bone sites (18 patients) were analyzed. CBCT was performed with 5 different CBCT devices and MSCT in a single multislice CT scanner. Measurements of mean grey level were performed in two regions of interest; ROI1 - alveolar bone (cortical and trabecular) and ROI2 - cancellous bone separately with 3 tested forms: no normalization (RAW), normalization of the whole image (ALL) and normalization of the region of interest only (ROI). Descriptive analysis with coefficient of variation (CV) and one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey was performed. For MSCT, ROI1 mean grey level slightly increased from 121.9+-17.13 (RAW) to 125.0+-15.74 (ALL) (p>0.05) and reduced to 104.8+-15.20 (ROI) (p<0.0001). CV varied from 14.05%, to 12.59% and 14.50%, respectively. ROI2 increased from 95.11+-13.96 (RAW) to 99.40+-13.62 (ALL) and 102.5+-17.86 (ROI) (p=0.0678). CV was 14.67% to 13.71% and 17.43%, respectively. In CBCT group, ROI1 meaningfully raise from 91.73+-32.17 (RAW) to 135.2+-36.06 (ALL) and 118.7+-18.65 (ROI) (p<0.0001), with CV decreasing from 35.06% to 26.68% and 15.71%, respectively. ROI2 was 81.23+-34.36, 115.3+-28.53 and 109.4+-17.47, respectively (p=0.0002), with a CV reducing from 42.30% (RAW) to 24.74% (ALL) and 15.97% (ROI). Therefore, the use of intensity normalization of CBCT and MSCT examinations was demonstrated on reducing discrepancies between different scanners and inter-exams variability in bone quality assessment for dental implants. Imagens DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) de 37 s?tios ?sseos (18 pacientes) foram analisadas.
