Reakce Spolkové republiky Německo na ruskou hybridní hrozbu: Případová studie "Fall Lisa" / The Response of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Hybrid Threat: Case Study "Fall Lisa"

Pokorný, Jiří January 2021 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the response of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian hybrid threat, which is examined using a case study of the so-called "Lisa case" from January 2016. The thesis aims to place the "Lisa case" in the context of German-Russian relations and hybrid threats in the security reality of the 21st century. Germany and Russia have long had a special relationship, which, however, fell into crisis after the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. The main goal of Russia's efforts to influence social and political development in Europe has become Germany, which must deal with new methods and strategies of hybrid warfare. The advent of hybrid threats is a challenge not only for Germany but also for its allies. Russia's view of hybrid threats proves that the term has different meanings for different actors. One of the manifestations of the Russian hybrid threat is the case of a thirteen-year-old girl of German-Russian origin Lisa F. who was missing in Berlin for several hours and allegedly raped by migrants. Although the German police promptly refuted the case, the Russian media misused the event to fuel an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, especially among a significant minority of Russian Germans. The incident spread to the intergovernmental level when Russian...

Vibrotactile Postural Control in Patients That Have Sit-to-Stand Balance Deficit and Fall

Atkins, Karen L. Hastings 01 January 2010 (has links)
Purpose: Vibrotactile displays have been found to be beneficial in improving balance test scores that correlate with a decrease in fall rate in laboratory studies. Investigations of these devices have been limited to upright stance and have not been done in clinical settings. Furthermore, transitional movements facilitated by vibrotactile displays, such as forward lean and rise found in sit-to-stand, have not been investigated. A prospective study investigated the relationship between force platform vibrotactile intervention and balance test scores, sit-to-stand and falls in subjects with abnormal NeuroCom Sit-to-Stand test results and 2 or more self-reported falls within the last 6 months. Subjects: Subjects included 30 community-dwelling adults, aged 60 to 79 years, 10 as off-site controls, 10 as on-site controls, and 10 as on-site device intervention subjects. Method: The cohort is a prospective case/control study using Pearson r, paired sample t-test, multivariate analysis of variance (M)ANOVA), and Wilcoxon signed rank analysis to determine the relationship between standard of care physical therapy plus vibrotactile force platform device treatment and standard of care physical therapy only. The Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Dynamic Gait Index, functional independence measure-motor (FIM-Motor), NeuroCom Sit-to-Stand normative ratios, NeuroCom Comprehensive Report, and self-reported falls quantify change over time with repeated measure study design. Results: The study found a significant beneficial effect in the device intervention group which realized 39.5/56 to 51.2/56 mean score increase in Berg Balance Score, increase in mean Dynamic Gait Index from 11.7/24 to 19.8/24, mean increase in FIM-Motor from 16.4/21 to 19.5/21 and decrease in self-report falls from 4 to 2 by intervention Day 14. These finds encourage further investigation of vibrotactile force platform devices.

Integrated wireless sensor system for efficient pre-fall detection

Tiwari, Nikhil 13 April 2015 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / The life expectancy of humans in today's era have increased to a very large extent due to the advancement of medical science and technology. The research in medical science has largely been focused towards developing methods and medicines to cure a patient after a diagnosis of an ailment. It is crucial to maintain the quality of life and health of the patient. It is of most importance to provide a healthy life to the elderly as this particular demographic is the most severely affected by health issues, which make them vulnerable to accidents, thus lowering their independence and quality of life. Due to the old age, most of the people become weak and inefficient in carrying their weight, this increases the probability of falling when moving around. This research of iterative nature focuses on developing a device which works as a preventive measure to reduce the damage due to a fall. The research critically evaluates the best approach for the design of the Pre-Fall detection system. In this work, we develop two wearable Pre-Fall detection system with reduced hardware and practical design. One which provides the capability of logging the data on an SD card in CSV format so that the data can be analyzed, and second, capability to connect to the Internet through Wifi. In this work, data from multiple accelerometers attached at different locations of the body are analyzed in Matlab to find the optimum number of sensors and the best suitable position on the body that gives the optimum result. In this work, a strict set of considerations are followed to develop a flexible, practical and robust prototype which can be augmented with different sensors without changing the fundamental design in order to further advance the research. The performance of the system to distinguish between fall and non-fall is improved by selecting and developing the most suitable way of calculating the body orientation. The different ways of calculating the orientation of the body are scrutinized and realized to compare the performance using the hardware. To reduce the number of false positives, the system considers the magnitude and the orientation to make a decision.

Evaluation of Management Strategies for the Headworm Complex in Grain Sorghum

Dobbins, Christopher Scott 07 May 2016 (has links)
During 2013 and 2014, studies were conducted to determine the effects of Helicoverpa zea and Spodoptera frugiperda on both damage and yield of Sorghum bicolor. Results from damage ratings suggest that the amount of damage per single larva decreases as population density increases. Also, yield results suggest that one H. zea and one S. frugiperda larva per panicle results in a 3.6 and 4 percent yield loss, respectively. Additionally, a dynamic EIL was determined using crop value along with various yield potentials and control costs. Other research studies were conducted to determine the efficacy of diamide and pyrethroid insecticides on headworms when applied at midge timing for different locations and planting dates. Results suggest that diamides provide longer and better control of headworms than do pyrethroids. However, applying diamides as a preventative application at midge timing may not be economically feasible when grain prices are low.

Unearthing the social-ecological cascades of the fall armyworm invasion: A computer-assisted text analysis of digital news articles

Bjorklund, Kathryn January 2023 (has links)
Understanding the complex nature of social-ecological cascades, or chain reactions of events that lead to widespread change in a system, is crucial for navigating the challenges they present. Emerging pests and pathogens, such as the fall armyworm, provide an opportunity to study these cascades in greater detail. I use topic modeling of digital news articles to investigate the potential social-ecological cascades associated with the ongoing fall armyworm invasion of multiple geographic regions. My findings reveal regional thematic shifts in the popular news media discourse surrounding the fall armyworm invasion. Notably, in the discourse surrounding Oceania, I observed a pronounced focus on invasion preparation, a theme significantly more emphasized compared to regions like Africa and Asia. These regional variations shed light on some of the localized priorities in addressing this invasive species. By highlighting the significance of employing comprehensive case studies of emerging pests and pathogens, this research underscores the need for more in- depth analyses of social-ecological cascades to better manage and mitigate their impacts.

[pt] A QUEDA DO NOME-DO-PAI LACANIANO NA LITERATURA BRASILEIRA CONTEMPORÂNEA: VESTÍGIOS DE UMA NOVA ECONOMIA PSÍQUICA / [en] THE FALL OF THE LACANIAN NAME OF FATHER IN THE CONTEMPORARY BRAZILIAN LITERATURE: TRACES OF A NEW PSYCHIC ECONOMY

FILIPE CERQUEIRA CASTRO 01 July 2021 (has links)
[en] This work discusses the relationship that exists between Brazilian literature aesthetics, here understood as the one produced from the end of the 1950s to the current days and the psychoanalytic perspective of the fall of the Lacanian name of the father. This theoretical point of view sees significant changes in the behaviors and artistic creation of the one individual that s called contemporary and has emerged after the end of World War I, all changes went through the establishment of a psychic economy founded in the imperative of rejoicing, to the detriment of that founded on repression. From this thought on, it is discussed here what is present or not of this new psychic economy in literary productions understood as contemporary in Brazil, taking into account the huge variety of present aesthetics in this period, and how each of these characteristics behave in each production that is observed. If it s right to think that the contemporary individual, as the ones from other times, has its specificities, it is also to take it into account that such traces come from social and psychoanalytic places, as well as they interfere in their artistic productions and, therefore, literaries. It s under the observation of how it has occurred in contemporary Brazilian literature that this text focuses on.

Åtgärder för att förebygga fall och fallskador

Malm, Charlotte, Rogova, Agnesa January 2009 (has links)
Malm, C & Rogova, A. To find interventions for preventing falls and fallinjuries. A literature review. Degree Project in nursing, 15 Credit Points. Nursing Programme, Malmö University: Health and society, Department of Nursing, 2009Falls and fallinjuries are a very serious problem especially for older inhospital patients. The older a person is the greater the risk of falling. The aim of this study was to investigate if the nurse can prevent and decrease the incidence of inpatient falls. This study was concentrated on falls and fall injuries on inpatients. The study was based on ten scientific articles that were assessed from their method, reliability, loss, ethical line of argument and the quality of the article. The articles show that there are measures to take to be able to decrease falls and fallinjuries. It is also shown that there are tools available that the nurse can use for help to identify riscfactors if any. The studies show that the riscfactors pointed out are individual as well as environmental and earlier falls is the highest rated riscfactor for having a fall. Multi prevention programs that contains different individual measures has shown to help decrease the number of falls. This study shows how the nurse with proper measures can help preventing falls and fall injuries on inpatients.

A Modelling Study to Examine Threat Assessment Algorithms Performance in Predicting Cyclist Fall Risk in Safety Critical Bicycle-Automatic Vehicle lnteractions

Reijne, Marco M., Dehkordi, Sepehr G., Glaser, Sebastien, Twisk, Divera, Schwab, A. L. 19 December 2022 (has links)
Falls are responsible for a large proportion of serious injuries and deaths among cyclists [1-4]. A common fall scenario is loss of balance during an emergency braking maneuver to avoid another vehicle [5-7]. Automated Vehicles (AV) have the potential to prevent these critical scenarios between bicycle and cars. However, current Threat Assessment Algorithms (TAA) used by AVs only consider collision avoidance to decide upon safe gaps and decelerations when interacting wih cyclists and do not consider bicycle specific balance-related constraints. To date, no studies have addressed this risk of falls in safety critical scenarios. Yet, given the bicycle dynamics, we hypothesized that the existing TAA may be inaccurate in predicting the threat of cyclist falls and misclassify unsafe interactions. To test this hypothesis, this study developed a simple Newtonian mechanics-based model that calculates the performance of two existing TAAs in four critical scenarios with two road conditions. Tue four scenarios are: (1) a crossing scenario and a bicycle following lead car scenario in which the car either (2) suddenly braked, (3) halted or (4) accelerated from standstill. These scenarios have been identified by bicycle-car conflict studies as common scenarios where the car driver elicits an emergency braking response of the cyclist [8-11] and are illustrated in Figure 1. The two TAAs are Time-to-Collision (TTC) and Headway (H). These TAAs are commonly used by AVs in the four critical scenarios that will be modelled. The two road conditions are a flat dry road and also a downhill wet road, which serves as a worst-case condition for loss of balance during emergency braking [12].

Diouf, Mbaye 16 April 2018 (has links)
