O estudo e desenvolvimento do protótipo de uma ferramenta de apoio a formulação de consultas a bases de dados na área da saúde / The study and development of the prototype of a tool for supporting query formulation to databases in the health area

Webber, Carine Geltrudes January 1997 (has links)
The goal of this work is, through the study of many technologies, to develop the prototype of a tool able to offer support to the user in query formulation to the MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System On Line). The MEDLINE is a bibliographical information retrieval system in the biomedicine area developed by National Library of Medicine. It is a tool whose usefulness has been amplifyed in this area by the increase of literature utilization, eletronically available, by health care profissionals. People, in general, look for information and are interested in finding it exactly like their expectations, in an agile way and using every single information source available. With this purpouse the first Information Retrieval System (IRS ) emerged, where in a simplifyed way, a user defines a query, that expresses an information necessity and, one step ahead, the system processes it and returns to the user answers from the query. Most of the users think is difficult to represent their information necessity in order to be succesful in searching an IRS. The terms that the user selects to compose the query are not always the same that the system recognizes. In order to be successfull in the definition of the terms that will compose his/her query is advisable that the user know the terminology that was employed in the indexing process of the wanted items or that he/she can have an intermediary person who knows about it. In many situations where no one of these possibilities can be true, resources that make a successfull query possible will be needed. This work, firstly, presents a general study on IRS focusing all the process involved and related to the storage, organization and retrieval. Lately, aspects related to the medical classifications and vocabulary are emphasized, which will be usefull for a largest comprehension of the difficulties found by users during interaction with a system like this. And, finally, the prototype of the Query Formulation System to MEDLINE is presented, as well as its components and funcionalities. The Query Formulation System to MEDLINE was developed with the intention of allowing the user to use any term in the formulation of a query to the MEDLINE. It allows the integration of different medical terminologies originated from classifications and vocabulary available in Portuguese language and in use today. This approach permits the creation of a more complete biomedical terminology in which each term maintains relationships that describe its semantic.

Rozšiřování dotazů pro vyhledávání medicínských informací / Query expansion for medical information retrieval

Bibyna, Feraena January 2015 (has links)
One of the challenges in medical information retrieval is the terminology gap between the documents (commonly written by medical professional, using medical jargons), and the queries (commonly composed by non professional, using layman terms). In this thesis, we investigate the effect of query expansion, using domain-specific knowledge resource, to deal with this challenge. We use the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), a repository of biomedical vocabularies, and utilize two of its resources: the Metathesaurus and the Semantic Network. We use the query set and document set provided by CLEF eHealth organizer. The query sets, provided for the medical information retrieval shared task, represent two different use cases of medical information retrieval. We experiment with query expansion using synonymous terms and non-synonymous concepts, blind relevance feedback, field weighting, and linear interpolation of different systems.

Kinzler, Daniel 26 October 2017 (has links)

Моделирование двуязычного тезауруса инвестиционных терминов (на материале англоязычных и русскоязычных текстов тематики «Инвестиционная деятельность») : магистерская диссертация / Modelling of Bilingual Thesaurus of Investment Terms (A Study of English and Russian Texts in the Field of Investment Activity)

Г., Solodkina, V. G. January 2022 (has links)
The topic of the present graduation thesis is “Modelling of Bilingual Thesaurus of Investment Terms (A Study of English and Russian Texts in the field of Investment Activity)”. The purpose of the study is to develop a model of a bilingual dictionary of investment terms. The subject of the research is investment terms in the English and Russian languages. The scope of the research includes developing the principles of compiling a bilingual dictionary of investment terms, including an appropriate methodological base. We used a set of scientific methods common for different scientific fields: descriptive method, classification of units, continuous sampling methods; as well as specific linguistic methods such as definition analysis, context analysis, semantic analysis. The work is novel in that it develops an English-Russian bilingual thesaurus of investment terms which can be used not only by specialists in linguistics, translation, and terminography, but also any person who deals with investment activities. The results of the research may be used in translation and interpreting practice, as teaching materials for students majoring in translation.

Kerkouba, Dalila 22 November 1984 (has links) (PDF)

Cluster-based Query Expansion Technique

Huang, Chun-Neng 14 August 2003 (has links)
As advances in information and networking technologies, huge amount of information typically in the form of text documents are available online. To facilitate efficient and effective access to documents relevant to users¡¦ information needs, information retrieval systems have been imposed a more significant role than ever. One challenging issue in information retrieval is word mismatch that refers to the phenomenon that concepts may be described by different words in user queries and/or documents. The word mismatch problem, if not appropriately addressed, would degrade retrieval effectiveness critically of an information retrieval system. In this thesis, we develop a cluster-based query expansion technique to solve the word mismatch problem. Using the traditional query expansion techniques (i.e., global analysis and local feedback) as performance benchmarks, the empirical results suggest that when a user query only consists of one query term, the global analysis technique is more effective. However, if a user query consists of two or more query terms, the cluster-based query expansion technique can provide a more accurate query result, especially within the first few top-ranked documents retrieved.

Caicedo-Castro, Isaac 12 May 2015 (has links)
In this research, we address the problem of retrieving services which fulfil users' need expressed in query in free text. Our goal is to cope the term mismatch problems which affect the effectiveness of service retrieval models applied in prior re- search on text descriptions-based service retrieval models. These problems are caused due to service descriptions are brief. Service providers use few terms to describe desired services, thereby, when these descriptions are different to the sentences in queries, term mismatch problems decrease the effectiveness in classical models which depend on the observable text features instead of the latent semantic features of the text. We have applied a family of Information Retrieval (IR) models for the purpose of contributing to increase the effectiveness acquired with the models applied in prior research on service retrieval. Besides, we have conducted systematic experiments to compare our family of IR models with those used in the state-of-the-art in service discovery. From the outcomes of the experiments, we conclude that our model based on query expansion via a co-occurrence thesaurus outperforms the effectiveness of all the models studied in this research. Therefore, we have implemented this model in S3niffer, which is a text description-based service search engine.
