Assessing the Relationship between SafeCare Fidelity and Competence Measures

Palmer, Rebecca 07 August 2012 (has links)
As more evidence-based programs are implemented in community settings, there is a strong need to ensure those models are implemented with integrity. Implementation of programs should be evaluated for fidelity, the degree of adherence to treatment protocols, and competence, the level of skill in implementation (Schoenwald et al., 2011). The purpose of this study was to review audio recordings of SafeCare home visiting sessions to discover the relationship between the measures of fidelity and competence. Six coders were assigned 209 SafeCare home visiting audiotapes to be coded for fidelity and competence. A sample of audios were double coded to evaluate fidelity and competence scores for inter-rater reliability. Fidelity and competence items were classified into process and content categories, forming the six main variables of process fidelity, content fidelity, total fidelity, process competence, content competence, and total competence. Total fidelity correlated with total competence at a level of .615, with process fidelity and process competence correlating at a much lower level than content items. The total correlation level can be interpreted as that fidelity and competence are strongly related measures, but are not identical constructs. The goal for SafeCare coders would be to continue refining competence definitions and attempting to remove the subjective nature from the competence coding process. With these two efforts, competence reliability should increase to an acceptable level. Given the main fidelity and competence correlation level, it is advisable for SafeCare coders to continue to code both fidelity and competence to avoid missing valuable components of the session. Additional research may be needed once the competence scale becomes better established.

Saskatchewan's aboriginal people and their participation in the northern mining industry : a case study

Hadersbeck, Sandra Andrea 03 July 2007 (has links)
The presence of aboriginal people in Saskatchewan has led to several government and private sector initiatives aimed at facilitating the participation of aboriginal people in modern industrial society. A case study was performed on Cameco Corporation, the largest mining company in Northern Saskatchewan, to find out if and how government and private sector initiatives to increase the participation of aboriginal people in the northern mining industry are working. Emphasis was put on defining the status of aboriginal employees within Cameco's mining workforce with respect to job training, promotion, job position, wage rate, and job satisfaction. A simple quantitative evaluation of survey responses was used to establish the position of Cameco's aboriginal/northern employees among their non-aboriginal co-workers and among the typical population residing in the northern part of the province.<p>In 1994, 42.3% of Cameco's employees at the mine sites were of aboriginal ancestry. Based on Cameco's 1994 employee survey, it was found that relative to the typical person residing in the North, Cameco northern/aboriginal employees had a higher level of schooling, more full time work activity, and a higher employment income. Relative to their colleagues, aboriginal Cameco workers were younger, less educated, fewer years employed and more representative in low skill level/low paying jobs. Aboriginal people were provided with more job training, received more promotions, and had a slightly lower overall job satisfaction.<p>Based on these findings, OLS and Logit multiple regression analyses were performed to identify how much of the difference between aboriginal and non-aboriginal Cameco workers, regarding employment related issues, could actually be explained by aboriginal ethnicity. Results showed that, when compared to their colleagues, aboriginal people were more likely to be promoted and to receive job training. However, aboriginal people were less likely to be employed in high level job positions and to earn a high wage rate. Many results are positive indicators of successful government and private sector initiatives to improve aboriginal peoples' employability by extensive human resource development programs in accordance with recent Surface Lease Agreements. Nevertheless, as shown by this example from the mining industry, the achievement of equal opportunities and of a fully equalized job distribution between aboriginal and non-aboriginal employees will be a long-term process.

HSU, Hui-chen 05 September 2011 (has links)
This study was to explore the effects of the social skill training programs integrating with picture books for the 2nd grade students¡¦ social skills of immediate and sustainable impact. Specific recommendations for the findings were provided for future research and implementation of social skills training. The study used the nonequivalent quasi-experimental designs and took two different classes of 2nd grade in a medium-sized elementary school in Pingtung County. There were 25 subjects in experimental group, and 26 subjects in control group; theformer were practiced for eight weeks with eight units of social skill training programs integrating with picture books and the latter were practiced with general a general integrated curriculum. Using the scale of Children Social Skills to collect data during the pretest, posttest and follow-up posttest, and then, all data were dealt with by the analysis of one-way ANCOVA. Furthermore, the qualitative data of Session Feedback Form, worksheet, teachers¡¦ observation were also anlayzed. The study found social skill training programs integrating with picture books has both immediate and incessant guidance effect on promoting experimental group children¡¦ whole social skills, and subscales of cooperative, positive assertive as well as negative assertive skills. While, promoting the subscales of empathy and self-control skills only found immediate guidance effect with no incessant guidance effect. The qualitative anlaysis found the experimental group has positive attitude on social skill training programs integrating with picture books.

Guidelines and Criteria to Assess Singing and Music Training in Baccalaureate Music Theater Programs

Fleming-DeBerger, Rachelle 01 December 2011 (has links)
Within the last twenty years there have been a growing number of prospective students interested in pursuing musical theater (MT) training in colleges and universities throughout the United States. To meet this demand, the number of schools offering baccalaureate MT degrees has also grown. However, information on how to assess the music and singing training of undergraduate MT programs is not easily accessible to prospective undergraduate students. This is likely due to the fact that colleges and universities have only begun offering degrees in MT since 1970. Research-based information in this area is primarily found in peer-reviewed journals or by attending workshops presented by a few pedagogues specializing in MT vocal methods and techniques. The purpose of this essay is to develop criteria for assessing the singing and music training in MT baccalaureate degree programs that would be useful for prospective MT students, based on the current literature.

Work Improvement and Specificity of Training Using Stepping, Running, and Bicycling as Modes of Training and Testing

Hook, Paul G. 05 1900 (has links)
This problem was designed to evaluate the work performance change effected by each of three training programs; stepping, running, and bicycle ergometer riding. The study determined the specific work improvement of each training program by using a stress test designed from each of the training modes. Two of the purposes of the study were to determine the work performance effects and the specificity of training effect of each of the training procedures. The effect of body weight and leg strength were also measured in relation to performance, and the relative value of each of the three training procedures was evaluated. An analysis of the data showed that no training method was statistically superior to the others, but in order of improvement they ranked (1) bicycle ergometer riding, (2) stepping, and (3) running. Training by each method did appear to be specific to the type of work involved. In each method of training, the most significant improvement was in the work performance test related to that particular training procedure.

It analyzes how the process of training and practicing of PROINFANTIL influenced the teachers in the County of Manaquiri, Amazonas, aiming, for that matter, at answering the following questions: What is the profile of teachers, who work in kindergarten in the Amazonas, taking into account the data of the 2005-2012 Educational Census? What are the guidelines of PROINFANTIL and how they were implemented in Manaquiri, Amazonas? How has PROINFANTIL been reflected in training and practicing processes of teachers considered unprepared in the County of Manaquiri, Amazonas, from the teachers own perception? The location of the research was Manaquiri, Amazonas, a community about 54 km from Manaus. Five (5) graduate teachers from PROINFANTIL II participated in the survey, teachers who had worked in childhood education classes in the County and also in surrounding communities. The data were collected through field surveys, with semistructured interviews and documentary research, analyzing reports and other documents related to the program under scrutiny. The results obtained enable us to state that the Program Guidelines were designed to provide the participating teachers the knowledge considered relevant for the practice of teaching in early childhood education, but its operation did not occur smoothly. Several obstacles were encountered and affected the organization and development of the program. The survey on the teachers profile indicated that Amazonas tracks along the national data, with some nuances in relation to other states. As to the impact on the program, it rested evident that the expected impact of the program on the personal and professional lives of those teachers cannot be denied but it seems that the effect was more subjective.

Joice Garcia Lima 11 August 2011 (has links)

ANALÝZA ÚČINNOSTI AKTIVNÍ POLITIKY ZAMĚSTNANOSTI PŘI ŘEŠENÍ STRUKTURÁLNÍ NEZAMĚSTNANOSTI V MORAVSKOSLEZSKÉM KRAJI / The analysis of effectiveness of active labour policy when dealing with structural unemployment in the Moravian-Silesian Region

Šimečková, Tereza January 2013 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze effectiveness of training programs in the Moravian-Silesian Region during the years 2007-2011. Targeting analysis showed that targeting at disadvantaged groups was unsatisfactory. The only exceptions among disadvantaged groups were groups of graduates and job seekers registered for 12-24 months. The values of total gross effects are only slightly lower than values reported for the Czech Republic and are around 62 %. Lower gross effects were found for disadvantaged groups. Inversely proportional relationship between the length of previous evidence and the value of the gross effect was proved. The worst results were found in the group of job seekers registered more than 24 months which approached 30 % at the end of the period. The thesis concludes that training programs seem to be efficient labor policy measure but recommends improving targeting at disadvantaged groups. It further recommends to monitoring the length of employment after training course, the connection between the job and training course and the return to the evidence that would help to optimize the supply of courses and also using the net effect analysis which overcomes limits of analysis chosen in the thesis.
