A Tese de doutorado de Sulivan Bressan situa-se está na categoria de Escrita Criativa, dentro da ênfase de Literatura Comparada, do PPG-Let-UFRGS. Procurou-se, nesta tese, elucidar o longo caminho traçado pelo autor, desde a gênesis de sua obra até o resultado final: o romance histórico Imagens invisíveis do passado. Antes do romance propriamente dito, o autor faz a justificativa de seu trabalho, nela narrando como concebeu e desenvolveu seu trabalho ao longo dos últimos oito anos. Após o romance, o autor faz a análise teórica da obra, com base na obra de Julia Kristeva, Jean Bessière, Paul Ricoeur, Gerard Genette e Fronçois Jullien. Os conceitos-chave utilizados nesta análise são “narratividade”, “temporalidade”, “transformação silenciosa”, “transtextualidade” e “transindividualidade”. A quarta parte constitui as conclusões preliminares, nas quais o autor explana a relação do romance com um projeto cultural maior, que inclui a exposição de maquetes das Sete Maravilhas do Mundo Antigo e a realização de palestras sobre este tema. Como anexo, o autor disponibiliza a versão impressa de seu blog, no qual o autor redigiu sobre passatempo que o inspirou a escrever seu romance. / This doctoral thesis, by Sulivan Bressan, is in the Creative Writing category, in the Comparative Literature emphasis, at PPG-Let-UFRGS (Post Graduation Program – Languages Institute – Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul). [pt] Na presente tese, procuramos abordar uma política do acontecimento e da transindividualidade com o objetivo de pensar a política contemporânea e os processos de subjetivação e individuação nela implicados. Para tal objetivo, procedemos a uma reconstituição das ontologias da individuação em Gilbert Simondon e do acontecimento em Gilles Deleuze que realizaram contribuições inaugurais a essa questão. Orbitando em torno desse núcleo, valemo-nos da ontologia da afetividade em Espinosa, por meio da leitura de Étienne Balibar, e das ontologias da cooperação intercerebral em Tarde e da imagem em Bergson, na abordagem de Maurizio Lazzarato. Balibar e Lazzarato cumprem, nesse projeto, a função de intercessores entre essas ontologias e a conjuntura política atual. Por meio dessa constelação de autores, buscamos delinear as condições de uma nova prática da resistência e da ação política que fizesse frente à individualidade dominante do sujeito liberal, buscando suas fontes não na ação consciente de um agente racional, mas na dimensão afetiva do indivíduo tomado como uma operação de produção. Na primeira parte da tese, debruçamo-nos sobre a ontologia da transindividualidade de Simondon e a sua mediação contemporânea, realizada por Balibar. Na segunda, procedemos, de forma análoga, a apresentação da ontologia do acontecimento, por meio da teoria das multiplicidades em Deleuze, e sua atualização em uma política do acontecimento na obra de Lazzarato. / [en] In this thesis, we aim to explore the politics of the event and transindividuality to reflect on contemporary politics and the processes of subjectification and individuation involved therein. To achieve this, we reconstruct Gilbert Simondon s ontologies of individuation and Gilles Deleuze s concept of the event, both of which provide foundational contributions to this discussion. Centered around these core ideas, we draw on Spinoza s ontology of affect, as interpreted by Étienne Balibar, along with the ontologies of inter-cerebral cooperation in Gabriel Tarde and the image in Henri Bergson, analyzed by Maurizio Lazzarato. Balibar and Lazzarato serve, in this project, as mediators between these ontologies and the current political context. Through this constellation of authors, we seek to outline the conditions for a new practice of resistance and political action that counters the dominant liberal subject, rooted not in the conscious action of a rational agent, but rather in the affective dimension of the individual viewed as a production operation. In the first part of the thesis, we delve into Simondon’s ontology of transindividuality and its contemporary interpretation by Balibar. In the second part, we proceed similarly, presenting Deleuze s ontology of the event through his theory of multiplicities and its adaptation into the politics of the event in Lazzarato s work.

[pt] O presente trabalho busca analisar o conceito de multidão e a possibilidade de pensá-la como um sujeito político na pós-modernidade, tendo como referência a concepção espinosana do termo e as interpretações contemporâneas daí decorrentes. O ponto de partida é o pensamento de Antonio Negri, que, ao observar as formas de poder e de organização política após a década de 1990, propõe o conceito de Império para explicar a política na contemporaneidade e o conceito de Multidão como um sujeito político capaz de agir no interior do Império e construir uma democracia em escala global. Em seguida serão analisadas as referências ao termo multidão na obra do próprio Spinoza, dando especial atenção à expressão quae una veluti mente, contida no Tratado Político. A partir desta expressão será apresentada a discussão existente entre pensadores como Alexandre Matheron que a tomam como referência para sustentar que a multidão seria um sujeito natural, possuindo uma existência singular; e pensadores como Lee Rice e Den Uyl que a criticam e apontam que a existência do termo quae na expressão foi utilizada exatamente para diferenciar a multidão de um sujeito natural. Por fim, tomando como referência os escritos de Gilbert Simondon, Etienne Balibar e Paolo Virno, serão articulados os conceitos de multidão, transindividualidade e individuação coletiva para responder criticamente à proposta de Antonio Negri e apontar as dificuldades em considerar a multidão um sujeito político. / [en] The present work intends to analyze the concept of multitude and the possibility of thinking it as a political subject in postmodernity, having as reference Spinoza s conception of the term and the contemporaneous interpretations that follows it. The starting point is Antonio Negri s arguments, who observing the forms of power and political organization after 1990s proposes the concept of Empire to explain the politics in contemporaneity and the concept of Multitude as a political subject capable to act in Empire s interior and to construct a democracy in global scale. Next, will be analyzed the references to the term multitudo in Spinoza s own work, paying special attention to the expression quae una veluti mente, contained in Political Treaty. From this expression will be presented the discussion that exists between thinkers like Alexandre Matheron that takes it as reference to sustain that the multitude would be a natural subject, possessing a singular existence; and thinkers like Lee Rice and Den Uyl that criticizes it and defend that the existence of the term quae in the expression was used exactly to differentiate the multitude of a natural subject. Finally, taking as reference the writings of Gilbert Simondon, Etienne Balibar and Paolo Virno, will be articulated the concepts of multitude, trans-individuality and collective individuation to respond critically Antonio Negri proposal and to point out the difficulties in considering the multitude a policital subject.

[pt] Esta tese dedica-se à reflexão teórica em torno do problema do indivíduo na modernidade desde a perspectiva da conjunção entre política e filosofia. Em particular, toma-se como ponto de partida o diagnóstico apresentado pela teoria do individualismo possessivo, de C. B. Macpherson, especialmente quando explicita que as sociedades políticas modernas se estruturaram a partir de uma concepção de indivíduo marcada por características possessivas. A tese objetiva demonstrar como historicamente esteve posta uma disputa teórico-política em torno dessa noção. Assim, na primeira parte, propõe-se que a leitura de Étienne Balibar em relação à filosofia de John Locke, a qual se constitui como uma das bases da teoria do individualismo possessivo, apresenta uma renovação crítica de tal teoria, pois explicita que a conjunção entre indivíduo e propriedade não se limita à teoria política e à teoria da propriedade, mas está inscrita na teoria metafísica, estruturando a própria concepção de consciência individual. Já na segunda parte da tese é analisado em que sentido as teorias contemporâneas sobre o transindividual – hipótese primeiramente formulada por Gilbert Simondon – representam uma contraposição atual a essa perspectiva sobre a individualidade, que, ao mesmo tempo, diferencia-se das críticas tradicionais do individualismo. Essa problemática também é analisada através da leitura de Balibar, a qual oferece às teorias do transindividual um necessário complemento político que não estava inteiramente presente nas versões mais estritamente ontológicas. Além disso, ao partir da filosofia de Spinoza, a interpretação balibardiana permite identificar a formulação de uma concepção alternativa sobre a individualidade contemporânea a Locke. Propõe-se que tal concepção não se baseia em características possessivas e institui um horizonte para a imaginação política frente aos desafios políticos contemporâneos. / [en] This dissertation focuses on the theoretical debate around the problem of the individual in modernity from the perspective of the conjunction between politics and philosophy. It departs from the diagnosis presented by C. B. Macpherson s theory of possessive individualism, especially when it states that modern political societies have been structured by a conception of the individual characterized by possessive qualities. The dissertation aims to demonstrate how historically a theoretical-political struggle around this notion has taken place. Thus, in the first part, it is proposed that Étienne Balibar s reading of John Locke s philosophy, which is one of the foundations of the theory of possessive individualism, presents a critical renewal of such theory, since it clarifies that the conjunction between individual and property is not limited to political theory and property theory, but is embedded in metaphysical theory, structuring the very conception of individual consciousness. The second part of the thesis analyzes how contemporary theories of the transindividual - hypothesis first formulated by Gilbert Simondon - represent a contemporary counterpoint to this perspective on individuality, which, at the same time, differs from traditional critiques of individualism. This problematic is also analyzed through Balibar s reading, which offers to the theories of the transindividual a necessary political supplement that was not entirely present in the more strictly ontological versions. Moreover, by starting from Spinoza s philosophy, the Balibardian interpretation allows the identification of the formulation of an alternative conception on individuality contemporary to Locke. It is proposed that such conception is not based on possessive characteristics and establishes a horizon for the political imagination in light of contemporary political challenges.
