Avaliação cardiovascular por ressonância magnética cardíaca e torácica em pacientes com Síndrome de Turner

Pereira, Betina Feijó January 2009 (has links)
Objective: To evaluate the incidence of cardiovascular malformations in 33 patients with Turner's syndrome followed up in the Hospital de Clinicas of Porto Alegre. Methodology: A transversal study in which a Cardiac and Thoracic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI ) with focus on the evaluation of the aorta was performed in 33 patients. Results: The patients had average age of 20 years and 10 months and height of 138,7 cm. Approximately 42,42% of the patients presented karyotype 45,X and 33,33% webbed neck. Through MRI 54,54% of patients showed anomalies; the bicuspid aortic valve was the most frequent found present in 24,24% of patients. Through MRI, cardiovascular malformations were found in 42,42%, and elongation of the transverse arch was present in 27,27% of patients. Aortic dilatation was found in 66,66% of patients, and it was considered severe in 12,12%. The most frequent place of dilatation was in the aortic root and in the tubular portion of the ascending thoracic aorta. Conclusion: The results of present study corroborate with the literature that says cardiovascular anomalies are common in Turner's syndrome, especially diagnosed through magnetic resonance imaging. Aortic dilatation, most prominent in the ascending aorta, is very frequent in Turner's syndrome and that predicts high risk for acute aortic events such as dissection, potencially fatal.

Anthropology and literature: Humanistic themes in the ethnographic fiction of Hilda Kuper and Edith Turner

Shaik, Zuleika Bibi January 2021 (has links)
Magister Artium - MA / This mini-thesis makes an argument for the significance of a female-dominated hidden tradition of experimental ethnographic writing in British social anthropology. It argues that the women anthropologists who experimented with creative forms of ethnography were doubly marginalised: first as women in an androcentric male canon in British social anthropology and American cultural anthropology, and second as creative writers whose work has been consistently undervalued in sombre scholarly circles. The study proposes that Hilda Beemer Kuper (1911-1995) and Edith Turner (1921-2016) should be regarded as significant in a still unexcavated literary tradition or subgenre with Anglo-American anthropology. It showcases the narrative craft of Kuper through a detailed textual analysis of her two most accomplished experimental ethnographies A Witch in My Heart (written in 1954, performed in 1955, and published in siSwati in 1962 and English in London in 1970) and A Bite of Hunger (written in 1958 and published in America in 1965). I highlight Kuper‟s multiple literary techniques in evoking of the fraught position of young Swazi co-wives, modern women and women accused of witchcraft in a patriarchal culture with particular attention to her gifts in creating dramatic plots, complex characters and dialogue rich in vernacular metaphor and proverbs. It then celebrates the even more experimental creative writing of Edith Turner. While Turner has sometimes been acknowledged for her hidden contributions to the co-production of her deeply loved and more famous husband Victor, she has not been given her due as an experimental ethnographer, also placing the experiences of African women centre-stage. In what she overtly advertised as “female literary style”, Turner‟s belatedly published 1987 novel The Spirit and the Drum. A Memoir of Africa is analysed with meticulous attention to the literary techniques by which she seeks to explore an anthropology of experience and empathy. These accomplished but under-acknowledged women creative writers sought to explore what they both explicitly conceived of as gestures of humanist cross-cultural engagement.

Life History of Mayatrichia ponta Ross (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) in Honey Creek, Turner Falls Park, Oklahoma

Wang, Yi-Kuang 12 1900 (has links)
The life history and ontogenetic microhabitat change of Mayatrichia ponta Ross were investigated in Honey Creek, Turner Falls Park, Murray Co., Oklahoma, U.S.A. from August 1994 to August 1995. The shape of larval cases changed from a small cone to a cylinder. M. ponta had an asynchronous multivoltine life history with considerable cohort and generation overlap; five generations were estimated. The development rate was reduced in winter. The winter generations of M. ponta had wider head capsule widths (136-165 μm) than summer generations (121-145 μm). The sex ratio of adults was 1.43 ♂ : 1 ♀. Fecundity ranged from 46 to 150 eggs/female. Fifth instar larvae and pupae aggregated on the bottom side of substrates. Early instars were distributed evenly on all sides of substrates. General patterns of ontogenetic microhabitat shift in aquatic insects are categorized as flow mediated, flow independent, and population interactions and other resources mediated.

Využití periferního kvantitativního CT pro časnou detekci osteoporózy u dětí s chronickým onemocněním / The role of peripheral quantitative CT in early diagnostics of osteoporosis in chronically ill children

Souček, Ondřej January 2012 (has links)
Patients with Turner syndrome (TS) have increased fracture risk and decreased bone density, patients with severe hemophilia have low bone density. The etiology of these changes hasn't been completely elucidated in any of the two diseases. Our aimes were to assess bone density and geometry at the radius using a new method peripheral quantitative CT densitometry (pQCT) and to describe associations between densitometry parameters and estrogen treatment in TS and laboratory as well as clinical markers of disease severity in haemophilia. Sixty-seven girls with TS (median age 14.3 years, range 6.0-19.4) and 42 boys with haemophilia (median age 12.7 years, range 6.6-19.2) have been measured using peripheral quantitative CT at the radius. The results have been compared to published reference data. Girls with TS had decreased cortical bone density and thinner cortex. These parameters were positively correlated to the length of estrogen treatment. Trabecular bone density was normal in prepubertal girls but it was decreased after puberty. There was no association between trabecular bone density and the estrogen treatment. Boys with haemophilia had decreased trabecular density and low muscle area at the forearm. Densitometry parameters were influenced neither by the clotting factor VIII/IX level nor by the frequency of...

Belief And Christmas: Performing Belief And The Theory And Practice Of Christmas Performance

Nicely, Brenna 01 January 2013 (has links)
In the United States, Christmastime has become a time of tension between the holy ideals of family togetherness, childhood innocence, and goodwill towards men and commercial idolatry. Christ and Santa Claus are pitted against each other in the war on Christmas between religion and secularism instead of feasting together on ham and figgy pudding in the traditional fashion. While many would agree that the everyday realities of the Christmas season do not often live up to the ideals imposed upon the holiday, few are able to tell why this is so or even trace the roots of their discontent. In an exploration of the unique anomaly of the hierosecular American Christmas, I propose that the unique systems of Christmas belief extend beyond the usual boundaries of sacred and secular to create a complex web of different beliefs that are performed together to create the unique feeling of Christmas. From a performance theory perspective, I use performance as both traditionally theatrical and as a paradigm for understanding and expressing belief in an effort to explore the essential but elusively defined cultural signifiers of the American Christmas. Through a series of case studies focusing on various traditions of Christmas performance, I apply the performance theories of Diana Taylor, Patrice Pavis, Victor Turner and others to such Christmas staples as Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. In doing so, I propose different points for viewing Christmas and introducing new points of inquiry for questioning the meaning of Christmas, belief, and performance

In i bubblan : Kolloledares upplevelser av kollo som något utöver det vanliga och vardagliga / Inside a bubble

Gustafsson, Anna January 2023 (has links)
Uppsatsventilering ägde rum den 13-01-2023 på Stockholms universitet.
