網路式指導在我國大學圖書館利用教育的應用研究 / A study of web-based instruction in the academic library user education in Taiwan方立果, Fang, Li-Guo Unknown Date (has links)
In the information age, academic libraries have to find the most effective ways to cultivate users’ information literacy. The web-based instruction (WBI) is a hypermedia-based instructional program which utilizes the attributes and resources of the World Wide Web to create a meaningful learning environment where learning is fostered and supported. WBI in the academic libraries has become the trend of future. More and more academic libraries use WBI to teach research skills and information literacy.
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the application of WBI in the academic library user education in Taiwan. The research was conducted by literature review, web site content survey, web-based questionnaire and semi-structured interview. First of all, the analyses of the literature were reviewed. Second, the web sites of 143 academic libraries were investigated. Third, web-based questionnaire had been applied to determine the users’ experience of WBI. Fourth, semi-structured interview was conducted to understand the management experience of participants. Finally an experimental platform of WBI was constructed for the demonstration of WBI.
The findings of this thesis are as follows: (1) The present use of WBI is limited to text online, digitalized learning materials that fit the Internet characteristics were lacked; (2) There is few well-designed WBI in library user education; (3) The difficulties involved with WBI are more of long term maintenance than technical problem. (4) The content is more important than multimedia.
The suggestions include: (1) Rethinking the fundamental issue of library user education, choosing the most effective way to improve users’ information literacy; (2) The academic libraries must corporate with other technical, administrative, and academic departments on campus to promote information literacy education; (3) Research and improve the skills of designing and planning of WBI in library user education; (4) Adopt the international information literacy standards and projects, to strengthen the implementation of WBI in the library user education; (5) Academic libraries must make efforts on the development of WBI, (6) Cooperating with other academic libraries to develop WBI in library user education.

Influence of the availability of school libraries on the reading attitude and reading achievement of primary school learners in South AfricaKnoetze, Johanna Jacoba 11 1900 (has links)
Given the importance of the ability to read, learners must have access to books in schools. The lack of functional school libraries in South Africa, especially in primary schools, is to the detriment of learners’ reading achievement. In the 2011 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) study, Grades 4 and 5 children achieved the lowest scores in the reading comprehension tests of the 40 participating countries. The researcher proposes that one intervention that would help solve the low levels of reading literacy among learners would be for schools to have an official school library policy, and to have functional well-stocked school libraries. This study seeks to identify the self-reported reading attitudes of learners who took part in the PIRLS 2011 study using a secondary data analysis, and to investigate by means of a systematic literature review, materials published between 1994 and 2017 on the non-implementation of school library policies. This study recommends speeding up progress in meeting minimum norms for school infrastructure in order to create a space for functional school libraries in all schools. Secondly, it suggests that access to books for primary school learners should be improved, and lastly, that the national guidelines for school libraries on planning and reforming school libraries should be finalised and implemented.

遊戲互動式擴增實境支援國小圖書館利用教育之研究 / The Study of the Game-based Interactive Learning with Augmented Reality that Enhances Elementary School Library User Education蔡雁農, Tsai, Yen-Nung Unknown Date (has links)
Due to the limited budgets and human resources, most libraries in the elementary schools of Taiwan have been unable fully functioned and utilized as its role should be in school organization. Some schools do not plan and provide library utilization education for children. Although students can go to libraries enjoying readings, they are not well trained for search library collection and resources. As a result, they are usually unable to find the books they are interested and easily getting lost in enormous information environment. This study proposes the importance of library usage training as a significant program in elementary school; promoting students’ abilities of finding books they need both for school works and personal interests.
With the advance in computer technology, the learning materials and learning methods have become diversified in recent years. In particular, the instruction method of game-based learning has drawn much attention in education research. Many education researchers and scholars think the integration of teaching and games will promotes students’ performances while the learning activities are also functioned as entertaining process.
This study attempts to develop educational gaming system on the basis of situated learning theory, adopting the innovative augmented reality interactive technology on the library's learning environment. This study hopes students’ library knowledge of library usages could be promoted through the "Interactive Augmented Reality Games Library Education Learning System." Moreover, the study could develop innovative learning model for elementary schools in library usages as well as to support future implementation programs for elementary library usage education.
Experimental results show that students have significant improvement on learning performance after using "Interactive Augmented Reality Games Library Education Learning System." The assessment also showed improvement based on the exclusion of personal factors from teachers. In addition, this system promotes better learning performance and motivation for learners of high and Low graded groups as well as the field-dependent learners in the “application questions” tasks. Moreover, the education effectiveness of this system will not be affected by personal factors such as familiarity on computers skills. Therefore, there would be less consideration on students’ computer skills needed for future adoption on this system in library usage programs.

Evaluating an information literacy intervention for first year engineering students at the Cape Peninsula University of TechnologyMarion Davids January 2009 (has links)

The aim of the research project is to investigate the effectiveness of an information literacy intervention for first year engineering students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Information literacy has been identified as a necessary outcome of tertiary education. It refers to the life-long learning competencies of finding and using information in order to solve problems, to make decisions and to create new knowledge. Information literacy education has evolved from earlier forms of library user education, such as bibliographic instruction, and is central to the mission of academic libraries. However, librarians responsible for information literacy programmes seldom evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions. In today&rsquo / s climate of accountability and outcomes-based education, it is necessary to provide evidence of the benefits of the user education that libraries provide. The researcher uses the American College and Research Library (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, which are internationally recognized and widely used by South African academic librarians, as a benchmark to evaluate an intervention for a group of first year students enrolled for a mechanical engineering course. The intervention consists of two workshops which aim to teach the students to find information relevant to their essays via the university&rsquo / s OPAC, various engineering databases and to teach them how to reference and cite their sources in their essays. The research methodology assessed students&rsquo / information literacy before and after the two workshops with the use of a questionnaire consisting of a set of questions based on some of the ACRL standards. The questionnaire also gathered data on students&rsquo / prior experience of libraries, reading and computers, which might impact on their information literacy...

Dienslewering in die openbare biblioteek met spesiale verwysing na gebruikersleiding / Service rendering in the public library with special reference to user guidanceGericke, Elizabeth Martina 01 January 2002 (has links)
Sleutelelemente is:
'n Kategorisering is
Professionele riglyne,
beginsels en standaarde, is ontleed. Afleidings is gemaak oor 'n heersende
diensleweringsfunksies ontoereikend is.
toegang lot inligting; diensfunksies en uitreikaktiwiteite; die professionalis-klientverhouding;
wetgewing, organisatoriese strukture en omgewingsfaktore.
Die model is in 'n vraelysopname in die Suid-Afrikaanse openbare biblioteekpraktyk
getoets.
The purpose of the study was to develop a model for public library service rendering
in a developing and multicultural society. The core problem was to investigate the
theoretical foundation of service rendering and the application thereof in practice.
The first subproblem was to examine the characteristics of a profession and
professional service rendering. The characteristics of the professional/ librarian who
has to provide guidance to the user were identified. Key elements are: autonomy
(linked to expertise and training), an altruistic service orientation and functional
service (according to professional guidelines and standards) to all groups in the
community irrespective of social class.
The second subproblem was to analyse the aims and functions of the public library
and the role of user guidance in it It was found that service rendering functions are
not theoretically well grounded. A categorisation is proposed which distinguishes
between supporting, service rendering and management functions. User guidance
is identified as an umbrella concept and core element of all service rendering
functions which is directed at optima/isirtg the value of information to the benefit of
society.
The third subproblem was to describe the origins of a service concept in the public
library and to expose paradigm shifts. Professional guidelines, principles and
standards were analysed. Conclusions were drawn about a predominant service
concept and the role of the public library. It was found that guidelines for the
identification of user groups and their needs as well as service rendering functions
are inadequate.
A categorisation of potential user groups and their needs was compiled and a
model for public library service rendering was developed to bridge the gap in XXtheorisation.
The model distinguishes a paradigm of service to all Individuals and
groups in the community and a developmental mission; the primary aim of
education; service principles of community networking, needs assessment and
information access; service functions and outreach activities; the professionalclient-
relationship; legislation, organisational structures and environmental factors.
The model was tested in South African public library practice by means of a
questionnaire survey. It was found that aims are pursued and service functions are
applied. The greatest problems are experienced In organisational structures and
financing. These issues must be urgently addressed to realise the public library's
declared mission, namely to play a substantial role in the development of the South
African society as a whole. / Information Science / D. Litt. et Phil. (Information Science)

The role of public libraries in enhancing information literacy skills (ILS) of senior secondary school students in the Central District in BotswanaDube, Sibongakonke 01 1900 (has links)
Modern day society is characterised by the availability of technology and the abundance of information in all formats that require all individuals using it to poses information literacy skills (ILS).ILS enable people the ability to locate, analyse, evaluate access and retrieve the desired information to satisfy a need. Research on IL in academic and school libraries has gained momentum in the field of Information Science where as little has been documented concerning public libraries and IL. This therefore calls for more research on IL in public libraries. Public libraries serve a wide and diverse community of which students are a part. In instances where school libraries are either non-existent or not developed, students seek assistance from the public library within their community. This study sought to investigate the role of public libraries in enhancing the ILS of senior secondary school students in the Central District in Botswana. The fact that school libraries in Botswana are underdeveloped to produce competent and confident students equipped with ILS that could be used in the work environment and continuous lifelong learning, motivated the study. A concern that there exists a gap in research concerning public libraries and IL within the Botswana context necessitated this study.
The study used a survey research design where both quantitative and qualitative research approaches were adopted. This involved the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. The purpose of a mixed methods approach was based on the idea that qualitative results could assist in explaining and interpreting the findings of a quantitative study. Data collection involved three sets of closed ended questionnaires and observations in all schools and public libraries. The population of the study consisted of public librarians, teacher librarians and students. Quantitative data were analysed using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) to generate statistics.
The findings of the study revealed that the public libraries in the Central District in Botswana are above average in terms of materials and use. It brought to light that senior secondary school students use the public libraries for school purposes and get assistance when they seek for it. Public librarians do not have special classes aimed at enhancing the ILS of students. The public libraries offer IL in the form of computer training, they do this as, and when students register, just like the other members of the community. The library’s contribution to enhancement of the students’ ILS, (study skills, reading skills and use of reference works) is somewhat limited. Limited resources, lack of reading culture, low budgets, and lack of support from government negatively challenge the full potential impact of IL enhancement. / Information Science / M. Inf. Sc.
