Undervisning i Källhantering : En studie om historielärares resonemang kring arbetet med källor, källkritik och källhantering / Teaching Sourcing : A study of how history teachers’ reasoning about sources, source criticism and handling of sources

Schöld, Jack January 2021 (has links)
The use of historical source material and teaching in how to do historical analysis of sources is specific subject goal and knowledge requirements in all the upper secondary school's history courses. Previous research has shown that when historical sources and how the handling of these are the content of teaching, social science source criticism is practiced. Which means that the focus is not on historical disciplinary skills, which means that Swedish upper secondary school students' skills in managing sources in a disciplinary way are relatively low. The purpose of this study is to find new knowledge about which understandings history teachers have of analysis historical sources and which underlying reasoning form the basis for teachers' design of history teaching where sources and handling of them is the lesson content. The idea is that a study like this should be able to contribute with new knowledge about the problems with source handling in schools. The study uses interviews, four history teachers were interviewed, all active in upper secondary school. The results from the study partly confirm the previous research but also contribute with new knowledge. When history teachers talk and describe the teaching of source handling is based on an absolute source concept, it is likely that the teaching is conducted in an absolute and reconstructivist approach. In the process of handling historical sources, the teachers in this study describe that great emphasis is placed on source-critical criteria, arranged and simplified source exercises as well as conveying certain predetermined perspectives on history. This provides a knowledge contribution where insight and understanding are given on how history teachers perceive historical sources, how these should be handled and how they describe the implementation of their practical teaching. Previous research has been action-based or at an overall level examined source management. Through this study, new knowledge is provided that deepens and variegate the previous research knowledge of history teachers' handling of sources.

On the predictibility of Central European stock returns: Do Neural Networks outperform modern economic techniques?

Baruník, Jozef January 2006 (has links)
In this thesis we apply neural networks as nonparametric and nonlinear methods to the Central European stock markets returns (Czech, Polish, Hungarian and German) modelling. In the first two chapters we define prediction task and link the classical econometric analysis to neural networks. We also present optimization methods which will be used in the tests, conjugate gradient, Levenberg-Marquardt, and evolutionary search method. Further on, we present statistical methods for comparing the predictive accuracy of the non-nested models, as well as economic significance measures. In the empirical tests we first show the power of neural networks on Mackey-Glass chaotic time series followed by real-world data of the daily and weekly returns of mentioned stock exchanges for the 2000:2006 period. We find neural networks to have significantly lower prediction error than classical models for daily DAX series, weekly PX50 and BUX series. The lags of time-series were used, and also cross-country predictability has been tested, but the results were not significantly different. We also achieved economic significance of predictions with both daily and weekly PX-50, BUX and DAX with 60% accuracy of prediction. Finally we use neural network to learn Black-Scholes model and compared the pricing errors of...

Posouzení připojitelnosti nového zdroje do sítě 110 kV / Assessment of connectivity of the new source to the 110 kV network

Kopečný, David January 2019 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the connectivity problems of the new sources to the electrical network. The first part of the thesis deals with the description of the new source and the method of its connection to the electrical network. Furthermore, in work, there are elaborated the blocking conditions for substation TR Neratovice expanded distribution point. A distribution network operator must receive an attachment application for connecting before the actual connection. The attachments consist of study cases of conjunction that values the inverse influence on the distributional network and informs the operator about the required measures for the reliable service with the new source. PSS Sincal computer software was used to survey the inverse influences on the distributional network. Based on processed data, the evaluation of conjunction of the synchronous generator to the grid at TR Neratovice substation was reconsidered.

Tsunamigenic potential of crustal faults in the southern Strait of Georgia and Boundary Bay

Caston, Megan 31 August 2021 (has links)
In this thesis, I constrain rupture scenarios of active crustal faults in the southern Strait of Georgia and Boundary Bay in order to assess their tsunamigenic potential. The NW-SE-trending Drayton Harbor, Birch Bay, and Sandy Point faults had been previously identified on the southern side of Boundary Bay from aeromagnetic, LiDAR, and paleoseismic data; all show evidence of abrupt vertical Holocene displacements. South of Boundary Bay, the E-W-trending Skipjack Island fault zone was recently mapped on the basis of multibeam sonar imagery and seismic reflection data, with evidence for Holocene offsets of the seafloor and subsurface sediments. In addition, the Fraser River Delta fault had been hypothesized on the basis of a line of pockmarks and fluid seeps. Since these faults have only been recently mapped and identified as active, there is little information available on their structure, rupture style, and past large earthquakes. This makes it difficult to constrain rupture models to predict how fault slip could displace the seafloor during a large earthquake, for input to tsunami models. I analyzed relocated earthquake hypocentres, earthquake mechanisms, bathymetry, topography, and aeromagnetic, seismic reflection, and magnetotelluric data, to constrain the location, strike, dip, and rupture width of each fault. Correlations between datasets enabled mapping of northwestward extensions of the Sandy Point and Birch Bay faults, as well as delineating the previously unmapped Fraser River Delta fault. These offshore faults appear to be associated with infilled basement valleys in the subsurface, perhaps due to differential glacial erosion of weakened fault zone material. The Drayton Harbor fault could not be definitively mapped across Boundary Bay, so was excluded from the rupture modelling. Rupture styles were constrained using a combination of earthquake mechanisms, stress orientations, other evidence of regional compression, and vertical paleoseismic offsets. Where possible, paleoseismic displacements in past earthquakes were used to constrain the amount of fault slip for scenario earthquakes; empirical relations between fault slip and fault length or area were used to estimate displacements for the Skipjack Island and Fraser River Delta faults. The Birch Bay, Sandy Point, Skipjack Island, and Fraser River Delta faults all pose a significant tsunami risk to communities surrounding the southern Strait of Georgia and Boundary Bay. Considering both the originally mapped and extended lengths, the Birch Bay and Sandy Point faults could rupture in reverse-faulting earthquakes up to Mw 6.7-7.4 and 6.8-7.5, respectively, with seafloor uplift up to 2-2.5 m triggering damaging tsunami waves (up to at least 2.5 m) that could arrive onshore with little to no warning after the shaking begins. Similarly, the Fraser River Delta fault could host reverse or dextral-reverse slip earthquakes up to Mw 7.0-7.6, with seafloor uplift of 0.6-3.5 m. Ruptures on the Skipjack Island fault would likely have a larger strike-slip component; earthquakes of Mw 6.9-7.3 produce modelled seafloor uplift of 0.5-1.9 m. These results suggest that large tsunamigenic earthquakes on crustal faults in the southern Strait of Georgia should be included in future seismic and tsunami hazard assessments on both sides of the international border. / Graduate

Automatické vyhodnocování spektra slunečního záření / Automatic evaluation of the solar spectrum

Vlček, Josef January 2015 (has links)
This master’s thesis deals with properties of a solar radiation, measurement of a solar spectrum and standard IEC 60904-9, which defines the requirements for a solar simulator. Solar simulators are classified as A, B or C for each of the three categories based on criteria of spectral distribution match, irradiance non-uniformity on the test plane and temporal instability. The goal of this thesis was creation software for automatic evaluation of a solar spectrum. Software was created in Matlab application and its function is to determine class of solar spectral match with spectrum AM1.5. The last part contains a measurement of various solar sources and using the created software was determined its spectral match with spectrum AM1.5.
