O trabalho tem como objeto de pesquisa a cadeia produtiva da habitação de interesse social em madeira de floresta plantada. O objetivo é verificar a viabilidade da implantação de sistemas construtivos econômicos em Pinus spp no Estado do Paraná - Brasil, considerando a disponibilidade de matéria-prima, o parque tecnológico instalado e as políticas públicas vigentes. O método de pesquisa identifica as variáveis envolvidas com o fenômeno e emprega dados qualitativos e quantitativos para descrever o objeto. A hipótese é que existe um ambiente favorável para o emprego destes sistemas construtivos na região estudada, contribuindo para o aumento do repertório de soluções aplicáveis no combate ao déficit habitacional. A investigação confirma a vocação florestal e o desenvolvimento da indústria madeireira do Paraná. No entanto, verifica problemas estruturais para o desenvolvimento da cadeia produtiva, como o atraso tecnológico e a baixa capacitação da mão-de-obra envolvida no processamento da madeira nas serrarias. Para superar estes obstáculos é necessária a implantação de políticas públicas direcionadas e a aproximação dos agentes dos setores florestal, madeireiro e da construção civil. / The thesis subject matter is the commodity chain of social housing made from planted forests wood. The thesis aim is to verify the production feasibility of economic construction methods using Pinus spp in Parana State - Brazil, considering the raw material availability, the research park facilities, and the current public policies. The research methodology identifies the variables involved in the phenomenon, and it employs qualitative and quantitative data in order to describe the object. The hypothesis is that there is a favorable environment for the use of these building construction methods in the studied region, contributing for the solution increase to reduce the housing shortage. This research confirms the vocation for forestry and for the development of the timber industry in Parana State. However, it finds structural problems in the commodity chain development, such as the technological backwardness and the low-skilled workforce involved in the wood processing at sawmills. To overcome these obstacles, it is necessary to implement target public policies and approaching forestry, timber and building construction industry representatives.

Análise e projeto de um motor de relutância chaveado com o auxílio do método dos elementos finitos. / Analysis and design of a switched reluctance motor using the finite-element method.

Este trabalho se insere num contexto de desenvolvimento da capacitação para aplicações de motores de relutância chaveados, com ênfase aos aspectos eletromagnéticos do acionamento. Inicialmente, são apresentados os principais aspectos construtivos do motor e de funcionamento do seu conversor. São discutidos os fluxos de energia do acionamento e sao apresentadas as suas características operacionais, bem como as possibilidades para o seu controle. Foi desenvolvida uma metodologia de projeto embasada numa formulação empírica e no método dos elementos finitos, implementado através do programa flux2d. Desta forma, foi projetado um protótipo para desenvolver meio newton-metro a três mil rotações por minuto. A formulação empírica baseia-se na adoção de diversas hipóteses simplificadoras do circuito ferromagnético. O método dos elementos finitos foi empregado com a finalidade da obtenção de um refinamento do dimensionamento do motor. O protótipo projetado foi fabricado e testado. Os objetivos dos ensaios foram a confrontação com os diversos valores calculados no projeto e a verificação do seu desempenho em diversas condições de carga. Finalizando o trabalho, os resultados obtidos são analisados, ressaltando-se os aspectos relevantes ocorridos durante o seu desenvolvimento. São também apresentadas, as atividades subsequêntes previstas. / This work is related to the development activities of switched reluctance motors, mainly on their electromagnetic characteristics. The motor\'s basic construction features and the converter\'s operation characteristics are showed, as well as, the energy flows, performance aspects and the effects of the control parameters. The principal elements of motor desigm are discussed. A method of design is developed based on empirical formulas and on finite elements method (using the software FLUX2D). Thus, a prototype was designed with ratings of 0,5 Nm at 3000 rpm. The empirical formulas are developed on a simplified model of the motor and taking into account the referred author\'s experience. The finite elements method was used with the aim of getting a design refinement, as well as, the static torque characteristics, inductances and flux as a function of rotor position and current. The prototype was built and tested. The tests were conducted to compare the actual with the designed parameters and to evaluate the performance characteristics. Finally, the results are analysed and the main facts observed during the development of the work are reported. The next planned activities are also showed.

O presente trabalho pretende entender a dinâmica do gerenciamento de projetos no IPEN. Para tal, decidiu-se pela pesquisa junto a literatura acadêmica de modelos que pudessem servir de base e que após modificações e ajustes pudessem refletir a realidade dos projetos de Institutos Públicos Pesquisa & Desenvolvimento. Após tratamento estatístico dos dados algumas hipóteses foram validadas e demonstraram sua influência positiva no desempenho do gerenciamento do projeto, tais como a influência das pessoas que compõem as equipes, o efeito da liderança, dentre outras. O modelo, inclusive mostrou-se válido para explicar quais fatores são relevantes para o sucesso dos projetos. Um das principais objetivos, foi exatamente o uso de modelo de avaliação de gestão projetos, que fossem passíveis de validação estatística, e não utilizar um dos disponíveis no mercado, tais como P3M3 e OPM3, para que houvesse um controle e confirmação estatística dos resultados. Outro objetivo foi utilizar um modelo cujas assertivas refletissem a natureza dos projetos de Pesquisa & Desenvolvimento gerenciados pelos pesquisadores do IPEN. Aliás, as referidas assertivas foram formuladas, e enviadas via pesquisa web, e respondidas por praticamente uma centena de profissionais do IPEN, envolvidos com projetos de P&D. A presente dissertação, acrescida das recomendações, ao final, tem como proposta servir de contribuição para os trabalhos desenvolvidos pelo Escritório de Projetos do IPEN. O modelo de avaliação, contido neste trabalho, pode ser aplicado em outras Instituições de P&D brasileiras, para que avaliem a forma e a maneira como gerenciam os seus respectivos projetos. / This paper aims to understand the dynamics involved in the project management at IPEN. To reach this goal, the method chosen was research along with academic literature of models that could serve as a base that after modifications and adjustments could reflect the reality of projects from the Public Institute of Research & Development. After undergoing statistical treatment of the data, some hypotheses were validated and showed positive influence on the project management performance, such as the influence of people who make up the teams, the leadership effect, among others. In fact, the model was found to be valid in explaining which factors are relevant for the success of the projects. One of the main goals was exactly the use of the project management evaluation model, submitted to statistical validation and not to use one available on the market, such as the P3M3 and OPM3, in order to assure the statistical control and confirmation of the results. Another goal was to use a model whose statements reflected the nature of the Research & Development project managed by researchers at IPEN. In fact, the aforementioned statements were formulated and sent via a web survey and answered by almost one hundred IPEN professionals who work on R&D projects. The following dissertation, along with the recommendations at the end, was included to serve as contribution to work developed by the IPEN Project Offices. The evaluation model included in this paper can be applied in other R&D organizations in Brazil, to evaluate the way their projects are managed.

Vennovy diagramy - výuka na střední škole metodou CLIL / Venn diagrams - Teaching Mathematics using the CLIL method for upper secondary pupils

This thesis focuses on the teaching of mathematics using the CLIL method. The topic is Venn diagrams and learning how to solve problems using these diagrams. The language chosen for the CLIL method is English. First, the CLIL method is described, and later I introduce sets and Venn diagrams. The aim of the thesis is to prepare and implement two lessons using the CLIL method in English, and two lessons in Czech, followed by preparing a test in both languages for a third lesson. The thesis was realized by conducting a teaching experiment, which took place in two classes of multi- year grammar school (in the Quintas - the first year of secondary school). I have compiled and tested four worksheets - two with Czech tasks, two with English tasks, a presentation for the lesson using the CLIL method, and tests for both language versions. Both the tasks and solutions are part of the thesis. Before the preparation of the thesis, the following two research questions were identified: 1. What needs to be taken into consideration when preparing for the Venn diagrams lesson using the CLIL method, and what needs to be added to this lesson compared to the Czech lesson? 2. Interactive multimedia problem-based learning for enhancing pre-service teachers' self-efficacy beliefs about teaching with computers: design, development and evaluation

[Abstract]: Research has suggested that, despite support through policy and resource provision,information and communications technologies (ICTs) have made little impact on the practiceof education and that limited teacher preparation for the use of ICTs represents a partialexplanation. The purpose of this study was to investigate what form of professionaleducation might be effective in preparing pre-service teachers to integrate ICTs into theirteaching. Self-efficacy beliefs about teaching with computers were identified as a potentiallysignificant source of influence on teachers' use of ICTs for teaching. It was proposed thatinteractive multimedia using a problem-based learning design (IMM-PBL) should be aneffective tool for increasing self-efficacy. Principles for the design of IMM-PBL were derivedfrom the relevant literature.An IMM-PBL package was designed and developed for delivery in a web browser formatusing content relevant to the integration of ICTs into teaching. Interviews with and sampleresponses prepared by computer-using teachers provided the basis for ensuring therelevance of content.The completed materials were evaluated in use with a group of 24 final year pre-serviceteachers in a Queensland university. Participants in the trials reported that the materialswere engaging and assisted their learning about integrating computers in their teaching. Astatistically significant increase in self-efficacy for teaching with computers was found forusers who had initially low self-efficacy for teaching with computers.The principles proposed for IMM-PBL design were found to offer a practical basis for thedevelopment of effective learning materials. With further development, IMM-PBL promisesto be a powerful and flexible approach to supporting learning for teachers and otherprofessionals.

A Unified Framework for e-Commerce Systems Development : Business Process Pattern Perspective

In electronic commerce, systems development is based on two fundamental types of models, business models and process models. A business model is concerned with value exchanges among business partners, while a process model focuses on operational and procedural aspects of business communication. Thus, a business model defines the what in an e-commerce system, while a process model defines the how. Business process design can be facilitated and improved by a method for systematically moving from a business model to a process model. Such a method would provide support for traceability, evaluation of design alternatives, and seamless transition from analysis to realization. This work proposes a unified framework that can be used as a basis to analyze, to interpret and to understand different concepts associated at different stages in e-Commerce system development. In this thesis, we illustrate how UN/CEFACT’s recommended metamodels for business and process design can be analyzed, extended and then integrated for the final solutions based on the proposed unified framework. Also, as an application of the framework, we demonstrate how process-modeling tasks can be facilitated in e-Commerce system design. The proposed methodology, called BP3 stands for Business Process Patterns Perspective. The BP3 methodology uses a question-answer interface to capture different business requirements from the designers. It is based on pre-defined process patterns, and the final solution is generated by applying the captured business requirements by means of a set of production rules to complete the inter-process communication among these patterns.

La toma de apuntes, su uso y enfoque de aprendizaje en estudiantes universitarios

Esta tesis tiene como finalidad entender cómo determinados instrumentos y procedimientos de aprendizaje, que implican el uso de la lectura y la escritura, son usados como herramientas de aprendizaje en los contextos educativos formales. Concretamente, nos centramos en el estudio de la toma de apuntes, dado que se trata de uno de los instrumentos y procedimientos de aprendizaje más frecuentemente utilizado por los estudiantes en educación superior. Se analizan algunos de los elementos que configuran el uso de este instrumento y procedimiento de aprendizaje y se identifican las posibles relaciones entre determinadas variables implicadas en las condiciones de dicho uso como, por ejemplo, la representación de los estudiantes, el enfoque de aprendizaje, los procesos de anotación que realizan, los usos que hacen de dichas anotaciones y los resultados de aprendizaje que obtienen al abordar una tarea académica concreta. El abordaje metodológico adoptado es de carácter naturalista, observacional, descriptivo y contextual. El análisis detallado tanto de las representaciones que manejan los estudiantes como de los procedimientos de anotación y uso efectivo que llevan a cabo con sus anotaciones en el momento de realizar una tarea académica concreta, junto con el análisis del contexto de enseñanza y aprendizaje en el que se enmarcan dichos aspectos, constituyen la base empírica de nuestro trabajo. Los resultados obtenidos permiten observar algunas tendencias respecto de las relaciones entre el enfoque de aprendizaje de los estudiantes y los procedimientos de anotación y uso de los apuntes que realizan. Concretamente, se observa que en general los estudiantes con enfoque profundo anotan la información preferentemente de forma incompleta, literal y fundamentalmente a partir de la información visual presentada por el docente, mientras que sus compañeros con enfoque superficial utilizan diferentes procedimientos de anotación. Asimismo, los estudiantes con enfoque profundo tienden a parafrasear, en mayor medida que sus compañeros con enfoque superficial, la información contenida en sus apuntes antes de incorporarla en el producto escrito que deben realizar en la situación analizada, y a realizar acciones vinculadas con el control de conformidad, es decir, se aseguran de que el contenido de sus apuntes es coherente con el producto elaborado. Finalmente, se pone de manifiesto que algunos estudiantes, bajo determinadas condiciones y según las características del contexto de enseñanza y aprendizaje, modifican su enfoque de aprendizaje y adoptan conductas más propias de un enfoque diferente al identificado inicialmente. / This thesis sets out to understand how certain learning instruments and procedures involving the use of reading and writing are employed as learning tools in formal educational contexts. In particular, it focuses on the study of note-taking, as this is one of the learning instruments and procedures most frequently used by students in higher education. It examines some of the elements shaping the use of this learning instrument and procedure and identifies the possible relations between certain variables of the conditions under which it is used, such as the students’ representation, learning approach and note-taking processes, the uses the students make of their notes and the learning outcome they achieve in performing a particular academic task. The theoretical approach adopted is naturalistic, observational, descriptive and contextual. The empirical basis for the work is provided by a detailed analysis of the representations held and the note-taking procedures employed by the students, and the actual use they make of their note-taking in carrying out a specific academic task, together with an examination of the teaching and learning context in which all this occurs. The results obtained revealed certain trends regarding the relationship between the students’ learning approach, their note-taking procedures and the use they made of their notes. In particular, it was found that, in general, students with a deep approach tended to note the information literally but incompletely, mostly on the basis of the visual information presented by the teacher, whereas students with a superficial approach employed different note-taking procedures. In addition, students with a deep approach tended to paraphrase the information in their notes before including it in the written product required of them in the situation under study to a greater extent than those with a superficial approach, and performed compliance-checks to ensure that their written products were consistent with the contents of their notes. Lastly, it was found that certain students, in certain conditions depending on the characteristics of the teaching and learning context, modified their learning approach and engaged in behaviours more in keeping with a different approach from the one initially identified.

Information Theoretic Approach To Extractive Text Summarization

Automatic text summarization techniques, which can reduce a source text to a summary text by content generalization or selection have assumed signifi- cance in recent times due to the ever expanding information explosion created by the World Wide Web. Summaries generated by generalization of information are called abstracts and those generated by selection of portions of text (sentences, phrases etc.) are called extracts. Further, summaries could for each document separately or multiple documents could be summarized together to produce a single summary. The challenges in making machines generate extracts or abstracts are primarily due to the lack of understanding of human cognitive processes. Summary generated by humans seems to be influenced by their moral, emotional and ethical stance on the subject and their background knowledge of the content being summarized.These characteristics are hardly understood and difficult to model mathematically. Further automatic summarization is very much handicapped by limitations of existing computing resources and lack of good mathematical models of cognition. In view of these, the role of rigorous mathematical theory in summarization has been limited hitherto. The research reported in this thesis is a contribution towards bringing in the awesome power of well-established concepts information theory to the field of summarization. Contributions of the Thesis The specific focus of this thesis is on extractive summarization. Its domain spans multi-document summarization as well as single document summarization. In the whole thesis the word "summarization" and "summary", imply extract generation and sentence extracts respectively. In this thesis, two new and novel summarizers referred to as ESCI (Extractive Summarization using Collocation Information) and De-ESCI (Dictionary enhanced ESCI) have been proposed. In addition, an automatic summary evaluation technique called DeFuSE (Dictionary enhanced Fuzzy Summary Evaluator) has also been introduced.The mathematical basis for the evolution of the scoring scheme proposed in this thesis and its relationship with other well-known summarization algorithms such as latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is also derived. The work detailed in this thesis is specific to the domain of extractive summarization of unstructured text without taking into account the data set characteristics such as the positional importance of sentences. This is to ensure that the summarizer works well for a broad class of documents, and to keep the proposed models as generic as possible. Central to the proposed work is the concept of "Collocation Information of a word", its quantification and application to summarization. "Collocation Information" (CI) is the amount of information (Shannon’s measure) that a word and its collocations together contribute to the total information in the document(s) being summarized.The CI of a word has been computed using Shannon’s measure for information using a joint probability distribution. Further, a base value of CI called "Discrimination Threshold" (DT) has also been derived. To determine DT, sentences from a large collection of documents covering various topics including the topic covered by the document(s) being summarized were broken down into sequences of word collocations.The number of possible neighbors for a word within a specified collocation window was determined. This number has been called the "cardinality of the collocating set" and is represented as |ℵ (w)|. It is proved that if |ℵ (w)| determined from this large document collection for any word w is fixed, then the maximum value of the CI for a word w is proportional to |ℵ (w)|. This constrained maximum is the "Discrimination Threshold" and is used as the base value of CI. Experimental evidence detailed in this thesis shows that sentences containing words with CI greater than DT are most likely to be useful in an extract. Words in every sentence of the document(s) being summarized have been assigned scores based on the difference between their current value of CI and their respective DT. Individual word scores have been summed to derive a score for every sentence. Sentences are ranked according to their scores and the first few sentences in the rank order have been selected as the extract summary. Redundant and semantically similar sentences have been excluded from the selection process using a simple similarity detection algorithm. This novel method for extraction has been called ESCI in this thesis. In the second part of the thesis, the advantages of tagging words as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs without the use of sense disambiguation has been explored. A hierarchical model for abstraction of knowledge has been proposed, and those cases where such a model can improve summarization accuracy have been explained. Knowledge abstraction has been achieved by converting collocations into their hypernymous versions. In the second part of the thesis, the advantages of tagging words as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs without the use of sense disambiguation has been explored. A hierarchical model for abstraction of knowledge has been proposed, and those cases where such a model can improve summarization accuracy have been explained. Knowledge abstraction has been achieved by converting collocations into their hypernymous versions. The number of levels of abstraction varies based on the sense tag given to each word in the collocation being abstracted. Once abstractions have been determined, Expectation- Maximization algorithm is used to determine the probability value of each collocation at every level of abstraction. A combination of abstracted collocations from various levels is then chosen and sentences are assigned scores based on collocation information of these abstractions.This summarization scheme has been referred to as De-ESCI (Dictionary enhanced ESCI). It had been observed in many human summary data sets that the factual attribute of the human determines the choice of noun and verb pairs. Similarly, the emotional attribute of the human determines the choice of the number of noun and adjective pairs. In order to bring these attributes into the machine generated summaries, two variants of DeESCI have been proposed. The summarizer with the factual attribute has been called as De-ESCI-F, while the summarizer with the emotional attribute has been called De-ESCI-E in this thesis. Both create summaries having two parts. First part of the summary created by De-ESCI-F is obtained by scoring and selecting only those sentences where a fixed number of nouns and verbs occur.The second part of De-ESCI-F is obtained by ranking and selecting those sentences which do not qualify for the selection process in the first part. Assigning sentence scores and selecting sentences for the second part of the summary is exactly like in ESCI. Similarly, the first part of De-ESCI-E is generated by scoring and selecting only those sentences where fixed number of nouns and adjectives occur. The second part of the summary produced by De-ESCI-E is exactly like the second part in De-ESCI-F. As the model summary generated by human summarizers may or may not contain sentences with preference given to qualifiers (adjectives), the automatic summarizer does not know apriori whether to choose sentences with qualifiers over those without qualifiers. As there are two versions of the summary produced by De-ESCI-F and De-ESCIE, one of them should be closer to the human summarizer’s point of view (in terms of giving importance to qualifiers). This technique of choosing the best candidate summary has been referred to as De-ESCI-F/E. Performance Metrics The focus of this thesis is to propose new models and sentence ranking techniques aimed at improving the accuracy of the extract in terms of sentences selected, rather than on the readability of the summary. As a result, the order of sentences in the summary is not given importance during evaluation. Automatic evaluation metrics have been used and the performance of the automatic summarizer has been evaluated in terms of precision, recall and f-scores obtained by comparing its output with model human generated extract summaries. A novel summary evaluator called DeFuSE has been proposed in this thesis, and its scores are used along with the scores given by a standard evaluator called ROUGE. DeFuSE evaluates an extract in terms of precision, recall and f-score relying on The use of WordNet hypernymy structure to identify semantically similar sentences in a document. It also uses fuzzy set theory to compute the extent to which a sentence from the machine generated extract belongs to the model summary. Performance of candidate summarizers has been discussed in terms of percentage improvement in fscore relative to the baselines. Average of ROUGE and DeFuSE f-score for every summary is computed, and the mean value of these scores is used to compare performance improvement. Performance For illustrative purposes, DUC 2002 and DUC 2003 multi-document data sets have been used. From these data sets only the 400 word summaries of DUC 2002 and track-4 (novelty track) summaries of DUC 2003 are useful for evaluation of sentence extracts and hence only these have been used. f-score has been chosen as a measure of performance. Standard baselines such as coverage, size and lead and also probabilistic baselines have been used to measure percentage improvement in f-score of candidate summarizers relative to these baselines. Further, summaries generated by MEAD using centroid and length as features for ranking (MEAD-CL), MEAD using positional, centroid and length as features for ranking (MEAD-CLP), Microsoft Word automatic summarizer (MS-Word) and Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) based summarizer were used to compare the performance of the proposed summarization schemes.
