Adolescents' Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviour Regarding HIV/AIDS in Valhalla Park: An Exploratory Study.

Isaacs, Conrad Henry. January 2008 (has links)
<p>In South Africa there is still a substantial amount of prejudice towards people living with Aids (PLA). Initially, Aids was seen as a &lsquo / gay&rsquo / disease, then a &lsquo / black&rsquo / disease. People thus tended to avoid high-risk groups rather than high-risk behaviour, and denied their own vulnerability by displacing the disease to an &lsquo / other&rsquo / who did not belong to &lsquo / their&rsquo / group. This study focuses on factors that influence and motivate adolescents&rsquo / behavior towards HIV/AIDS at Beauvallon High School in Valhalla Park / an impoverished, peri-urban and previously coloured only community.</p>

Energy efficiency measures for a culturally valuable building : An energy investigation and related suggestions for a q1,2-marked building

Åkerfeldt, Martin, Pettersson, Markus January 2022 (has links)
Valhalla is an old school building constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. Originally designed to be used as a school for girls, the building is now being used for cultural purposes and decaying. The municipality of Falun, who owns the building, wishes to restore it to the point where it meets todays modern standards and amenities, regarding indoor climate and comfort. The idea is to convert Valhalla into an office building for the employees of the municipality. Whilst doing this, a refurbishment goal set by the municipality of Falun applies where the annual amount of bought energy for the building shall be reduced by half when the refurbishment is complete. This report will evaluate the optimal solutions for Valhalla to meet the municipality’s goal. Due to the cultural protection of the building a package of appropriate suggestions will also be displayed. These suggestions are applied with the preservation of Valhalla in focus. A replica of Valhalla will be constructed in IDA ICE which is a simulation software where different energy measures can be investigated and evaluated. This is done to decide which kind of measures is profitable. By only focusing on improving the insulation to Valhalla a total energy reduction of 37.5% is achieved, which is not enough. This report will find out if the goal of reducing the annual amount of bought energy by half is achievable if geothermal heat pumps are introduced. Modern heating and ventilation systems will be installed to ensure that the indoor climate and comfort of Valhalla meets the regulations. Investigating the impact from insulation of the façade, external walls, roof, and windows and how it will improve the building. As well as applying smart controlling of the appliances and lighting, how the occupants can affect the annual electricity usage. By changing the primary heating source to a geothermal heat pump instead of the district heating already installed at Valhalla, to see the total impact in terms of both bought- and primary energy.

En prestandajämförelse mellan objektorienterad design och dataorienterad design i C++, Java och Java Project Valhalla / A performance comparison between object-oriented design and data-oriented design in C++, Java, and Java Project Valhalla

Isacsson, Andreas, Renström, Christopher January 2023 (has links)
Computer games need to utilize hardware efficiently in order to be available on as many systems as possible with varying capabilities. An important part of this is to optimize the use of the CPU’s cache. A programmer can follow a data-oriented design to implement cache-efficient code. This requires the programmer to have control over how data is stored in memory, which is difficult to achieve in Java. Project Valhalla may offer features to address this issue. In this thesis, object-oriented design was compared with data-oriented design in the languages C++, Java, and the ongoing development of Project Valhalla. A prototype was developed and implemented using different combinations of these languages and designs. For each implementation, performance and cache efficiency were measured. The result showed that Java with Project Valhalla can achieve similar performance to C++ in data-oriented implementations. Due to some limitations in Valhalla's features, it is unlikely that it will become a suitable alternative to low-level languages anytime soon.

"A Christian Viking and a Pagan Whore" : En socialpsykologisk studie om stereotyper och grupptillhörighet i tv-serien Vikings Valhalla med hjälp av social identitetsteori.

Perman, Linnea January 2023 (has links)
This study applies social identity theory to analyze social identification, social categorization, social comparison, and stereotypes in the first season of Vikings Valhalla. The analysis focuses on the portrayal of different stereotypes associated with the selected ethnic groups: Christians, pagans, and Christian Vikings, through clothing, behavior, language, and beliefs. These stereotypes serve as tools to establish character identities and differentiate between the groups. Despite the limited application of social identity theory in popular culture studies, this study demonstrates its usefulness in understanding group membership and social relationships in a fictional context. By applying social identity theory, the study provides insights into the social relationships among the chosen ethnic groups in the first season. It is observed that individuals strive for a positive social identity through group membership, identifying with and supporting their group members while also establishing boundaries against other groups. This can lead to the emergence of stereotypes, prejudices, and conflicts between the groups, which also shape perceptions and behaviors towards other groups. The study employs a qualitative content analysis method with a focus on visual aspects. It addresses three research questions related to religious and cultural stereotypes, social categorization, and social relationships. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the religious and social dynamics portrayed in the first season of the TV series Vikings Valhalla. By analyzing the behaviors and interactions of the characters, it provides insights into how group membership, boundaries, and conflicts shape individuals' identities and influence their relationships with other groups in the series. This research emphasizes the complexity and fluidity of social identities and raises new avenues for future research in the field.
