Muthige, Azwifarwi Gladys January 2014 (has links)
Thesis (MA. (African Languages)) -- University of Limpopo, 2014 / This research focuses on the use of derogative language in Tshivenḓa discourse. Derogative language is the language used in a society in showing critical or disrespectful attitude. In each and every society, people use derogative language or words in addressing different unacceptable behaviours. Derogative language is used in schools, churches, homes, to mention but a few places. There are factors compelling Vhavenḓa people to use derogative language. In this regard, one may mention social, political, and economic factors. For instance, hardworking people who have amassed wealth through their efforts are sometimes labelled scornful names such as madyavhathu (cannibals) and keepers of maḓuxwane (zombies). Ultimately, the use of derogatory language affects people socially and psychologically.

The lemmatization of Tshivenda lexical items

Mantsha, Avhavhudzani Virginia January 2012 (has links)
Thesis (M.A. (African Languages)) -- University of Limpopo, 2013 / The study focuses on the lemmatization of lexical items in Tshivenḓa. It was conducted by reviewing selected Tshivenḓa dictionaries and the lexical items investigated were nouns, locatives, verbs and adjectives. The analysis looked at the approaches used in the macro- and micro-structural treatment of these important lexical items in dictionaries. The study also covered the treatment of the morphological, syntactical and semantic aspects of these lexical items in Tshivenḓa. This research ended with recommendations that will help dictionary compilers to overcome challenges they experience when lemmatizing nouns, locatives, verbs and adjectives.

Fleis, Alain 21 March 2013 (has links)

Pinto, Marcelo Machado Barbosa January 1996 (has links)
This paper results from an exploratory research that describes the practice of selling activity performed by a distribution channel of building paints. The practice of selling activity was depicted by the way it works and by the identification of some attributes that accounts for generation, support and changing of the selling activity. Data were collected from investigating the interaction among the distribution channel agents, represented by a manufacturer ( Killing paints ), and some resellers ( paint stores and building material stores ). The analysis and interpretation of information/data were obtained by comparing the speeches of several distribution channel agents, such as industrial sellers, technicians of paint production and application, managers of stores, retail sellers and painters. Thus, the activities of each type of agents of this distribution channel were identified separately and each agent expressed what had determined his/her selling activity. This account allowed to join both selling activities and attributes which had been repeated by different agents, clearing up how and why the selling activity was played by distribution channel of buildind paints.

Percepção ao risco e efeito disposição

Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Tecnológico. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Produção. / Made available in DSpace on 2013-07-16T02:28:55Z (GMT).

I explore the concept of market liquidity of Lippman and McCall (1986) and show that the theory of optimal search is useful to address the following issues: What governs the time required to make a transaction on these markets? What is the relationship between the price of goods and the time required to make transactions? Why is optimal to wait to make a transaction in markets where individuals discount future utility? What is the socially optima search level? Two specifications are used, the traditional model of job search and a version of Krainer and LeRoy (2001) model.

Venda choral music: compositional styles

Mugovhani, Ndwamato George 28 February 2007 (has links)
Black choral music composers in South Africa, inspired by the few opportunities available to them until recent times, have nonetheless attempted to establish, perhaps subconsciously, some choral tradition and, in doing so, incorporate African musical elements in their works. My research traces the foundations and historical development of choral music as an art amongst Vhavenda, and the contributions made thereto by a number of past and present Venda composers that this researcher could manage to identify and trace, to the music of the people. The selected composers are Stephen Maimela Dzivhani, Matthew Ramboho Nemakhavhani, Derrick Victor Nephawe, Joseph Khorommbi Nonge, Israel Thinawanga Ramabannda and Fhatuwani Hamilton Sumbana. Through the application of multiple methodological lenses, the study sets out to analyse, describe, and interpret Venda choral music. Of particular interest is the exploration of the extent to which the ”formal” education that was brought by the Berlin Missionaries influenced Venda choral musicians, particularly the selected Venda choral music composers. Also crucial to this research is the exploration and identification of elements peculiar to indigenous Venda traditional music in the works of these composers. The question is whether it was possible for these composers to realize and utilize their potentials fully in their attempt to evoke traditional Venda music with their works, given the very limiting Western tonic sol-fa notational system they were solely working with. The project also briefly traces the place of Venda choral music within the South African music context and its role within the search for cultural identity. The research has found that the majority of Venda choral music written so far has generally not been capable of evoking indigenous Venda traditional music. Whilst these composers choose themes that are akin to their culture, social settings, legend and general communal life, the majority of the music they set to these themes does not sound African (Venda in particular) in terms of the rhythms and melodies. The majority of the compositions under scrutiny have inappropriate settings of Venda words into the melodies employed. This can be attributed to the limitations imposed by the tonic sol-fa notational system, which was the only system they were taught in the missionary schools established around Venda and which, itself, was flawed as well as the general lack of adequate music education on the part of the composers themselves. Despite these limitations and the very few opportunities available to them, Venda choral music composers nonetheless managed to lay a foundation for choral music as an art amongst their people (Vhavenda). / Art history, Visual Ars and Musicology / D. Problems related to the learning situation of schoolgirl mothers in Venda secondary schools

Ramalebana, Masilo Euclid 11 1900 (has links)
It is not an uncommon feature anymore to find young mothers in Venda secondary schools busy with their studies. These young mothers, referred to as schoolgirl mothers in this investigation, do however, battle in general with their studies and experience problems different from those of ordinary schoolgirls. It was, therefore, decided to launch an investigation into the problems related to the learning situation of such schoolgirl mothers. The formation of relationships by the adolescent has been used as a point of departure for this study. Contrary to expectations, the empirical investigation has revealed that schoolgirl mothers maintain basically good relationships with themselves, their studies and others. On the other hand, their academic achievements are significantly lower than those of ordinary schoolgirls. Further research is necessary to shed more light on the situatedness of schoolgirl mothers in general and in Venda secondary schools in particular. / Psychology of Education / M. Ed.
