The Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality (CTMM) is currently in the process of establishing a heritage route and tour through Mamelodi. The route includes a number of sites considered to important in terms of cultural or historical significance. These sites form part or a journey through Pretoria where visitors are to experience accounts and sites of the freedom struggle. Tshwane is branding itself as a city of learning, freedom and trying to give weight to the fact that it is the administrative capital of South Africa. Moretele Park is the current venue for jazz festivals in Mamelodi and forms a part of the heritage route. Festivals are organised by the park authorities in conjunction with a private organising body and various sponsors. The stage is always a temporary structure comprising of scaffolding and cladding. It is usually positioned on an embankment between the Moretele and Pienaars Rivers, facing the park with the mountain as backdrop. The festival remains popular, drawing crowds from all over the country. For the rest of the year, the park is used as a recreational facility or as a destination for school trips. Its facilities include a water slide and swimming pool, braai areas, an unused hall, various ablutions around the park and a for the jazz festivals. There is clearly a need to upgrade some of these facilities, particularly the hall and an opportunity also exists to formalise the facilities for the jazz festivals. Syftet med denna C-uppsats var att skapa en inblick i den svenska mötesindustrin genom att undersöka tre större mötesanläggningar i Sverige. Detta har gjorts med hjälp av de anställda på de undersökta mötesanläggningarna. Utgångspunkten i denna uppsats var att de mest grundläggande delarna på en mötesanläggning innefattar dess fysiska struktur och organisationsstruktur. Syftet har även varit att lyfta fram de anställdas perspektiv då respondenterna pekat på de delar inom dessa områden som uppfattats som mest betydande för bedrivandet av respektive mötesverksamhet. Uppsatsen är huvudsakligen en kvalitativstudie med semistrukturerade intervjuer, vilka har genomförts för att få en djupare förståelse för de anställdas syn på verksamhetsdriften på respektive mötesanläggning. Intervjuerna har genomförts med sammanlagt nio anställda, varav tre genomfördes på plats på anläggningen,tre per telefon och tre per mail. Uppsatsen bygger på svaren från våra respondenter, tidigare forskning samt den presenterade referensram som har arbetats fram utifrån respondenternas svar. Resultatet av denna studie visar att de delar inom fysisk struktur och organisation som de anställda lyfter fram som mest betydande för bedrivandet av den egna verksamheten tar sig i uttryck genom lokalisering, flexibilitet, hållbarhet och samarbeten. / The purpose of this essay is to create a greater insight into the Swedish meetings industry by examining three major meeting facilities in Sweden, and to create this insight through the employees at the surveyed facilities. Our starting point was that the most basic elements of a meeting facility include the physical structure and the organizational structure. The aim has thus been to highlight the employees' perspective within these parts of the operations that is perceived as most significant for the conduct of each meeting operation. This study is primarily a qualitative one using semi-structured interviews conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the employees' vision of the operations at each meeting facility. The interviews were conducted with a total of nine employees, three of which were carried out on the spot, three by phone and three via e-mail. The essay is based on the responses of the respondents and previous research. The results of this study shows that the parts within physical structure and the organizational structure that the employees highlights as the most important for the conduct of the operations are presented as location, flexibility, sustainability and co-operations.

This report discusses my internship with the Lakefront Arena at the University of New Orleans. Included in this report is a breakdown of the Arena’s management and facilities, internship overview, organization analysis based upon my observations, best practices comparing similar venues, and recommendations to the Lakefront Arena. The internship concluded with a job offer as the interim Campus Booking Coordinator, to which I accepted.

The purpose of this research was to gain the perspectives of venue managers and meeting planners on their roles in the meetings industry, their relationship with each other and attributes needed to host a successful meeting. An online survey was conducted involving these two stakeholders to define their roles, assess the strength of their relationship and identify attributes based on their experience with working together and hosting meetings. Results showed that venue managers and meeting planners are essential to the hosting of successful meetings. It also indicated that venue managers are willing to build and maintain stronger relationships with meeting planners and brought to light some attributes such as communication skills, responsiveness and self-competence, which when improved upon, could help achieve this. The study also presents a theoretical model of how stakeholder co-creation activities can drive more successful meetings.

abstract: Exertional heat stroke continues to be one of the leading causes of illness and death in sport in the United States, with an athlete’s experienced microclimate varying by venue design and location. A limited number of studies have attempted to determine the relationship between observed wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) and WBGT derived from regional weather station data. Moreover, only one study has quantified the relationship between regionally modeled and on-site measured WBGT over different athletic surfaces (natural grass, rubber track, and concrete tennis court). The current research expands on previous studies to examine how different athletic surfaces influence the thermal environment in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area using a combination of fieldwork, modeling, and statistical analysis. Meteorological data were collected from 0700–1900hr across 6 days in June and 5 days in August 2019 in Tempe, Arizona at various Sun Devil Athletics facilities. This research also explored the influence of surface temperatures on WBGT and the changes projected under a future warmer climate. Results indicate that based on American College of Sports Medicine guidelines practice would not be cancelled in June (WBGT≥32.3°C); however, in August, ~33% of practice time was lost across multiple surfaces. The second-tier recommendations (WBGT≥30.1°C) to limit intense exercise were reached an average of 7 hours each day for all surfaces in August. Further, WBGT was calculated using data from four Arizona Meteorological Network (AZMET) weather stations to provide regional WBGT values for comparison. The on-site (field/court) WBGT values were consistently higher than regional values and significantly different (p<0.05). Thus, using regionally-modeled WBGT data to guide activity or clothing modification for heat safety may lead to misclassification and unsafe conditions. Surface temperature measurements indicate a maximum temperature (170°F) occurring around solar noon, yet WBGT reached its highest level mid-afternoon and on the artificial turf surface (2–5PM). Climate projections show that WBGT values are expected to rise, further restricting the amount of practice and games than can take place outdoors during the afternoon. This project proposes a new building for a concert venue on Södermalm in Stockholm. An area especially affected by the current trend that venues for experiencing contemporary music live are being shut down and driven away from the inner city, due to everything from complaining neighbours to making room for more profitable businesses. The idea for the project sprung out of the sudden closing of the venue Debaser Medis, whose facilities was removed when the building it was situated in was to undergo major renovations. The purpose with Varvet was to create a new venue in a freestanding building, independent from other businesses, and giving contemporary music a more articulated place in the city. The project also includes the re-purposing of an adjacent existing building to facilitate a cafe and bar as well as functions supporting the daily business of the venue such as offices, practice rooms and a small workshop.

The aim of the current study was to reconstruct the sport venue quality dimensionsas an autonomous quality with a utilitarian perspective and examine the impact on spectators’ perceived risk, price perception, and sustained consumption intentions. Venues for National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MLB) games that mostly represent indoor and outdoor sporting facilities were chosen, and subjects were spectators who have experience of attending professional team sport events in sport venues. The study employed an online survey for data collection, and a total of 595 samples were utilized for data analyses. The data set was randomly split into two halves for a principal component analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis, respectively. Results of the PCA generated 11 factors for venue quality including seating comfort, facility aesthetics, layout accessibility, safety, cleanliness, seating view, space allocation, facility system, electronic device, parking, and signage. The reliability and validity of the measurement model were also confirmed. In the structural model analyses, venue quality was found to be significantly associated with perceived value, perceived risk, and sustained consumption intentions. The relationships among perceived value, perceived risk, and sustained consumption intentions were also positively significant. The mediating effects of perceived value and perceived risk were found in the relationship between venue quality and sustained consumption intentions. The findings of the current research will contribute to the sport management literature by providing meaningful insights on capturing the essence of sport venue quality, based on an autonomous quality, and how it affects spectators’ price perception, alleviates perceived risk, and leads to sustained consumption intentions.
