A ship to Namuh : mise à l'épreuve scénique d'une réflexion sur la question de l'altérité dans l'esthétique d'Adorno et sa résonance dans certaines pratiques théâtrales contemporaines

Verville, Mélanie January 2006 (has links) (PDF)

Enkvist, Hampus, Samuelsson, Emelie January 2011 (has links)

Database server workload characterization in an e-commerce environment

Liu, Fujian 19 December 2005 (has links)
A typical E-commerce system that is deployed on the Internet has multiple layers that include Web users, Web servers, application servers, and a database server. As the system use and user request frequency increase, Web/application servers can be scaled up by replication. A load balancing proxy can be used to route user requests to individual machines that perform the same functionality.

To address the increasing workload while avoiding replicating the database server, various dynamic caching policies have been proposed to reduce the database workload in E-commerce systems. However, the nature of the changes seen by the database server as a result of dynamic caching remains unknown. A good understanding of this change is fundamental for tuning a database server to get better performance.

In this study, the TPC-W (a transactional Web E-commerce benchmark) workloads on a database server are characterized under two different dynamic caching mechanisms, which are generalized and implemented as query-result cache and table cache. The characterization focuses on response time, CPU computation, buffer pool references, disk I/O references, and workload classification.

This thesis combines a variety of analysis techniques: simulation, real time measurement and data mining. The experimental results in this thesis reveal some interesting effects that the dynamic caching has on the database server workload characteristics. The main observations include: (a) dynamic cache can considerably reduce the CPU usage of the database server and the number of database page references when it is heavily loaded; (b) dynamic cache can also reduce the database reference locality, but to a smaller degree than that reported in file servers. The data classification results in this thesis show that with dynamic cache, the database server sees TPC-W profiles more like on-line transaction processing workloads.

Sonochemical and impregnated Co-W/γ-Al2O3 catalysts : performances and kinetic studies on hydrotreatment of light gas oil

Vishwakarma, Santosh Kumar 30 January 2007 (has links)
γ-Al2O3 supported Co-W based catalysts with varying Co (1 - 3 wt %) and W (7 - 13 wt %) loadings were prepared using impregnation and sonochemical methods. All prepared catalysts were characterized with elemental analysis, BET analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), NH3 temperature programmed desorption (TPD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA).
The performances of all the synthesized catalysts were tested at a pressure of 8.9 MPa, LHSV of 2 h-1 and temperatures of 340, 350 and 360 °C in a laboratory trickle bed microreactor for hydrodesulphurization (HDS) and hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) of light gas oil (LGO) derived from Athabasca bitumen. The performance tests with impregnated catalysts indicated a maximum in activity for HDS and HDN reactions (sulfur and nitrogen conversions at 93.0 and 57.1 % at 360 °C) for Co(3 wt %)-W(10 wt %)/γ-Al2O3 whereas the performance tests with sonochemically prepared catalysts showed a maximum in activity (sulfur and nitrogen conversions at 87.9 and 42.5 % at 360 °C) for Co(3 wt %)-W(11.5 wt %)/ γ-Al2O3. These two catalysts were selected for detail performance, optimization and kinetic studies. The effects of reaction temperature (340 - 380 °C), pressure (7.6 - 10.3 MPa), liquid hourly space velocity (1.5 - 2.0 h-1) and hydrogen gas/gas oil ratio (400 - 800 mL/mL) were examined on HDS and HDN of LGO with these catalysts. The reaction kinetics for HDS was best fitted with a Power Law model whereas same for HDN was found to be best represented by a Langmuir-Hinshelwood model with a reasonable accuracy (0.90 <R2 <0.95). The activation energy for HDS of LGO were 14 and 12 kJ/mol for selected impregnated and sonochemically prepared catalysts whereas the same for HDN were 9 and 14 kJ/mol for these catalysts, respectively. Calculation showed that the fitted HDS rate expressions were apparent and HDN rate expressions were intrinsic under existing reaction conditions. It also showed that the pore diffusion resistances for both HDS and HDN increased with an increase in reaction temperature from 340 to 380 °C.

Zeng, Yu January 2012 (has links)

The mass of the $W$ boson is one of the most important parameters in the

Standard Model. Current-induced phenomenon on Fe/W(111) and the improvement of signal to noise ratio

Hsiang, Chih 08 September 2011 (has links)
In our earlier research, we found the MOKE signal incident from 45 degree would cause perpendicular signal to couple with the longitudinal one. To distinguish the signal from one to another, we arranged 45 degree and 0 degree optical setup for the measurement of longitudinal and perpendicular respectively. However, hysteresis loops are only observed in the longitudinal direction. To measure smaller signal in our experiment, we reduced the noise level by one order and thus improved the signal to noise ratio. It¡¦s ten times better then previous result. Under smaller signal or worse S/N ratio condition, we still measured the MOKE signal. In order to quantitatively analyze the current-induced field, we made a metal coil and try to measure the bias produced by the field. And we injected the reverse current-induced field, , try to counteract the bias of hysteresis loop which is induced by sample current. Besides, we also dosed oxygen on the sample and measured the MOKE signal. There was no change comparing with which is measured in gas-free condition. But we found the coercivity became larger after annealing to 300K, and the current-induced bias in oxygen become smaller.

The Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide on W(111) surface and Wn (n=10¡V15) nanoparticles

Weng, Meng-Hsiung 24 July 2012 (has links)
This dissertation employs the density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO) on the W(111) surface and on the surface of Wn (n=10¡V15) nanoparticles. Since the properties of materials are significantly dependent on material size, we look into the influence of both the size and surface structure of tungsten catalysts on the CO oxidation process. The work contains two parts. Part 1: The adsorption and dissociation of O2 and CO on W(111) surface and Wn (n=10¡V15) nanoparticles. The chemical adsorption of O2 and CO on solid catalysts plays a very important role in heterogeneous catalysis for the CO oxidation reaction. The configurations, adsorption energies, vibration frequencies and electronic structures of adsorbates on W(111) and Wn (n=10¡V15) nanoparticles have been calculated to investigate their surface activity. The results indicate that adsorption of O2 and CO on Wn (n=10¡V15) nanoparticles are more stable compared to on the W(111) surface. The minimum energy pathways and transition states of chemical reaction processes on metal surfaces were also studied by the nudged elastic band (NEB) method. The dissociation barriers of O2 chemisorbed on Wn (n=10¡V15) nanoparticles are smaller those for the W(111) surface. Our results demonstrate that both the surface structure and size of metal significantly influence the adsorption and dissociation properties of adsorbates. Density functional theory-molecular dynamics (DFT-MD) simulation was also adapted to clarify the mechanism of O2 deposition on the W(111) surface. Observations of the variations of energy and bond lengths as a function of time show that the interaction between O2 and W atoms weakens the O¡VO bond, giving rise to the dissociation process. We conclude that the dissociation probability of an O2 molecule is affected by chemisorbed O2 coverage in the vicinity. Part 2: The mechanism of CO oxidation on W(111) and Wn nanoparticles. The oxidation of the CO molecule on transition metals usually follows two reaction pathways, either the Eley-Rideal (ER) mechanism or the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (LH) mechanism. In the ER mechanism, the CO molecule in the gas phase reacts directly with activated O2. The LH mechanism generally involves a few elementary steps, namely the co-adsorption of the O2 and CO molecules, O2 dissociation to form atomic oxygen, diffusion of atomic oxygen, and desorption of CO2. The oxidation of CO on a W10 nanoparticle surface and the W(111) surface are investigated by DFT calculations. Three pathways were studied in this dissertation: (i) CO + O2¡÷CO2 + O, (ii) CO + O2¡÷CO + O + O¡÷CO2 + O and (iii) CO + O¡÷CO2 via both LH and ER mechanisms. The calculated results show that CO oxidation on both the W10 nanoparticle and W(111) surfaces follow the ER rather than the LH mechanism. The CO oxidation on the W10 nanoparticle and W(111) surfaces occurs most easily via pathway (i) as compared to other two.

El Sueno Americano, Es Para Todos: An Analysis of the Rhetoric toward Latinos in the Presidential Campaigns of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, 1992-2000

Campos, Kristina M. 14 January 2010 (has links)
This dissertation examined the presidential elections of 1992, 1996 and 2000 for the narrative tools used to persuade Latino voters. Using Walt Fisher's narrative theory, I evaluated the various parts of the American Dream myth, looking specifically at the characters and settings used in the candidate's narrative. Then, I evaluated the values in those narratives through the lens of the Plan of Delano, specifically looking for ways these candidates actually reinforced important Latino values. The new tellings of the American Dream myth valued specific characters- characters that had been blessed by the American Dream. Clinton's 1992 character had to work to gain success, but he was also blessed. George P. Bush (George W. Bush's nephew) was another character blessed by the American Dream. As a first-generation American, he represented the hope that brings many to America; the idea that their children could have opportunities the parents could not. The settings of the American Dream story were also important. These settings varied greatly-from the decrepit and desolate to the fanciful and idyllic-but they represented all the different places where the American Dream is possible. Hope, Arkansas is not a place where much hope seems to exist. But even a community as impoverished as Hope can be the birthplace of a President, because of the amazing ability of the Dream to permeate even the darkest corners of America. The barrios of the Southwest appear to be hopeless, but as Clinton's telling of the myth reminded Latinos, even people growing up in the barrios should have hope-because the American Dream can exist anywhere. These values, these characters, these settings have added to the rich rhetorical history of the American Dream myth. These presidential candidates expanded the places where that hope could reach, and the people who could be blessed by the Dream. All of this culminated in a story that Latinos could relate to, that they shared in and that rhetorically persuaded them to believe in these candidates.
