Celeri, Eloisa Helena Rubello Valler, 1959- 19 December 1989 (has links)
Orientador : Rachel Vilela Favero / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-14T03:57:55Z (GMT). / Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to organize the contributions of D.W.WINNICOTT, paediatrician, child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst to the theory of emotional developmeni of the infant and the child during the first years of life. Following two parallel and frequently crossing paths, WINNICOTT'S theory studies on the one hand the emotiona] growth of the infant, and on the other, the mother's qualities, the changes in these qualities and the maternal care which satisfies the specific needs of the infant. This dissertation is divided as follows: introduction, four chapters and an epilogue. The author used the complete works of W1NNICOTT as the primary source of research. but did not attempt an epistemological analysis of thc aforesaid. In the introduction the author presents a brief overall view of D. W. W1NNICOTT the man and the clinician. who arrived at psychoanalysis through his work as a paediatrician. In this way, by means of a constant dialogue between these two principaJ infll1ences. he made his theoretical contributions to a great variety of subjects alI of which contained the study of the emotional growth of the infant in its earliest stages and the role played by maternal care during this period. Chapter one describes the infant's journey from the period of absolute dependence. followed by a period of relative dependence, arriving finally at independence or alltonomy, which is never absolute. For WINNICOTT this journey is only made possible by the mother's knowledge of theinfant's dependence during the initial stages of development. This allows the mother to correspond to the ego-needs and instinctual needs of the infant, adapting almost perfectly to them and creating a setting which WINNICOTT termed environment provision, thus permitting the maturational processes of the baby to be revealed through an impulse for integration and for the development of a personal and real self. In chapter II the author describes the beginnings of primitive emotional development during the total independence period when the infant is in a state of being merged in with the mother. Concentrating on the study of ego development where a continuity of being is experienced, due to good-enough maternal care, there are three main realizations shown in the chapter a) integration, that is, the infant acquires the status of being a unit b) personalization or psychosomatic insertion which allows the baby to feel himself living inside his own body and which makes it possible to equate the skin as a membrane which delimits an interior and an exterior c) initiation of object-relating ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations. / Mestrado / Mestre em Ciências Médicas

The historical system of W.B. Yeats's A vision

Dampier, Graham Anthony 04 June 2012 (has links)
D.Litt. et Phil. / While the historical theory of W. B. Yeats’s A Vision (1925) has received proportionately more scholarly attention than other aspects of the system, the deeper theoretical principles that inform it have not been discussed or analysed sufficiently. Many prominent scholars of the Yeats’s corpus have rejected the need to study the system all together, while others have provided simplified accounts of the historical theory elucidated in Book IV “The Great Year of the Ancients” and Book V “Dove or Swan”. A detailed study of A Vision’s historical theory is sorely needed, as we know little of how it operates at a deeper theoretical level. This thesis approached this lack by elucidating the theoretical foundation that Yeats’s discussion of history in “Dove or Swan” is based on. This required an analysis of Yeats’s idiosyncratic use of the ancient Greek concept of the “Great Year”. Yeats’s elucidation of the “Great Year” derives its distinction from the Automatic Script, which the system of A Vision is based on. In the process, Yeats’s treatment of the evolution of the “Great Year” from Plato through Ptolemy to modern astrologers was discussed. This required a lengthy and thorough examination of the geometry that informs A Vision’s historical system. This geometric scheme is complex and requires careful consideration, for it is easy to confuse the movement represented in each figure. This study provides illustrations that are derived from Yeats’s descriptions of diagrams and from his instructions of how to interpret the movement that occurs within them. This results in diagrammatic representations that have never been utilised and analysed to such a comprehensive extent. A by-product of providing an extensive and comprehensive account of the geometry that informs the historical theory of A Vision is the emergence of a barely discussed, but very crucial, geometric and theoretical component of the historical system, the line of interacting periods. The line of interacting periods represents each historical period and event as being constituted by the Four Faculties; Will, Creative Mind, Mask and Body of Fate. In effect, this line allows for an analysis of the historical system that incorporates not only the Faculties but other theoretical components of the system of A Vision as well, which includes the twenty-eight phases of the Great Wheel and the strife between the primary and antithetical tinctures. When “Dove or Swan” is viewed from this theoretical perspective Yeats’s discussion of history reveals itself to be an application of the system’s fundamental tenets to four thousand years of European history. It tries, in this way, to maintain the internal cohesion of the system as a whole. Every historical event, period and figure signifies the fluctuating dominance of one tincture over the other. Yeats’s emphasis on the development of European aesthetics results in a discussion of movements that seeks to reveal the primary and antithetical components at work during any given period of European art. Yeats’s selective interest in European history and art suggests that “Dove or Swan” is not a complete discussion of the people and events that shaped modern Europe. From one point of view, it represents an amateur historian’s quest to find empirical justification for a theory that he claims to have gleaned from a supernatural source. Seen from another angle “Dove or Swan” represents poet’s effort to apply metaphors, meant for poetry, to empirical historical data.

Riquelme Muñoz, Sebastián January 2013 (has links)

US Federal Budget as an instrument to enforce ideological principles at the beginning of the 21st century.

Joukl, Petr January 2017 (has links)
In my diploma thesis, I deal with the federal budget of the US as an instrument designed to promote partisan policies on the example of the administrations of George W. Bush and Barack Obama in order to find out whether there are ideological differences in the budgetary policy of Democrats and Republicans at the beginning of the 21st century. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the revenue side and spending side of the budgets of both presidents and the development of the balance they managed. The analysis suggests that, although the nature of the time, phase of the economic cycle and other external influences have a significant impact on budgets, the federal budget can still be considered as an effective tool for expressing partisan preferences.

Social and political concerns as addressed by three prominent Xhosa poets

Tshomela, Zibonele 06 December 2011 (has links)
M.A. / This study is a critical assessment and analysis of Xhosa poetry that addresses social and political concerns with particular reference to the poetry of Qangule (1970), Mtuze (1982, 1990) and Xozwa (1994 ). Chapter one introduces the study by presenting its aim, scope, method of research, theory, definition of concepts and significance of the study. Chapter 2 focuses on the theoretical framework of the study. It discusses the theory of Marxism, which is used as a basis of this study, by explaining the concept of Marxism, its historical background, assumptions, methodology and Marxism and poetry. Chapter 3 deals with social concerns that are addressed by Mtuze (1982 and 1990) and Xozwa (1994 ). These social concerns are divorce and alcohol usage. The discussion in this chapter focuses on how divorce affects members of the family concerned, especially children of divorced parents. It also looks at how alcohol is used in society. While the discussion in this chapter acknowledges moderate use of alcohol, it focuses more on how this substance may also be abused. It looks at how alcohol abuse affects individuals and society economically and how dangerous it is to the health and lives of people. Chapter 4 focuses on political concerns as addressed by Qangule (1970) and Mtuze (1982). It assesses and analyses poems that address the oppression of black people during the apartheid regime in South Africa. Concerns like citizenship and deprivation of freedom, labour conditions and language are discussed in this chapter. Chapter 5 is a concluding statement which gives a summary of the study, evaluation of Xhosa poetry with regard to addressing the concerns discussed in the study and recommendations regarding future research.

Contributions of W. A. Criswell to the Establishment and Development of The Criswell College

Cowan, Gloria 05 1900 (has links)
This study researched the role of W. A. Criswell as Chancellor of The Criswell College and his involvement in the areas of development, facilities acquisitions, personnel, and academics. This qualitative historical research was taken from Criswell's personal files from 1968 through 2001. W. A. Criswell gave written approval for this review and publication in November 2001. Included in Criswell's files were primary and secondary sources including copies of letters, board meeting minutes, personal notes, catalogs, newspaper articles, sermons, speeches, and other printed forms of communication. All documents pertaining to Criswell's involvement in these four categories were copied and the documents organized in chronological order, by the decade of the 1970s, the 1980s, and 1990s. Primary sources also included personal interviews and telephone interviews with eyewitnesses who were present at the events described, and board meeting minutes. Secondary sources included newspaper articles, magazine articles, national Christian magazines, and journals. Findings were summarized, evaluated and the following research questions answered (1) What was the purpose for establishing a Christian institution of higher education sponsored by First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas? (2) What was the rationale for establishing a Christian institution of higher education in an area where a high density of Christian colleges already existed? (3) What was Chancellor Criswell's vision for a Christian institution of higher education in its infancy? (4) Do alumni survey results in 1999 reflect the vision Criswell had for The Criswell College? (5) How did Chancellor Criswell develop endowment for The Criswell College? (6) What involvement did Chancellor Criswell have in the acquisition of physical facilities for The Criswell College? (7) What influence did Chancellor Criswell have over the curriculum development process in the history of The Criswell College? (8) Were there changes in the gender and diversity make-up of student enrollment at The Criswell College during Criswell's tenure as chancellor? Conclusions were that Criswell significantly influenced the education of the next generation of Christian leaders.

La souveraineté à l'ère du néolibéralisme / Sovereignty in the era of neoliberalism

Tourneux, Odile 12 December 2019 (has links)
The advent of so-called neoliberal theories and public policies seems to mean the decline of the notion of sovereignty, both as a legitimizing principle and as a mobilizing motive. Neoliberal theses, in their diversity, have been constructed as counterpoints to sovereignty. Against the absolute power of command of the monarch, liberal regimes owe their virtue only to the growth of individual liberties; against popular sovereignty, democracy finds its effectiveness only in the techniques of government. This theoretical opposition seems even stronger because the post-war geopolitical developments massively undermine the classic attributes of sovereign power. The globalization of the economy disrupts the territorial division of space. The globalization of trade brings out private economic powers which compete with the instituted States. The invention of the Internet makes transactions more complex, which prevent any possibility of controlling public life. Finally, the development of international law and the European community adventure undermine the power of representative governments. However, against the narrative announcing the withdrawal of the idea of sovereignty, against the idea of an incompatibility of sovereignty and neoliberalism, this thesis seeks to pay attention to the treatments that are reserved for the notion of sovereign power, in theoretical works as well as in contemporary European public policies.

Slotte, Olivia, Rajs Lundström, Tobias January 2020 (has links)
Background: A shift from physical trading to online shopping has taken place. Generation W trades online to a lesser extent compared to generations X and Y, even though they have strong purchasing power. Perceived risk is one of the reasons why consumers choose to refrain from shopping online. Previous research in the area of risk recommends future research to study more profound older adults' perceived risks with e-commerce. When consumers experience risks, they develop risk-reducing methods to reduce the risks. Riskreduction methods can range from consulting a friend to completely refraining from shopping. Research question: What is generation Ws view regarding risk and risk reduction methods? Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore what risks and risk reduction strategies are perceived among generation W when shopping online. Theory: Risk and risk reduction theories, buyer process models and decision making modelsare used in this study. Method: The essay is based on a qualitative descriptive study where primary data has been collected using semi structured interviews. Conclusion: Many previously known risks as well as some newly found risks like environmental risks and the risk of urban environment degradation are presented. Generation W uses risk-reducing methods or chooses to refrain from shopping online. Respondents explained the importance of their previous experience in e-commerce, which has laid the foundation for how they act in online trading today.
