O cantar da Germânia: política e cultura na Alemanha na passagem dos séculos XII e XIII / The chant of Germania: politics and culture in Germany in the transition from the 12th to the 13th century

Celso Péricles Fonseca Thompson 03 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis developed in the research line of Politics and Culture highlights the interest in the phenomena of transmission of intellectual knowledge. The thesis reconstructs the expression of medieval German political culture through the eyes of two poets, Walther von der Vogelweide and Wolfram von Eschenbach, members of the warrior aristocracy. The theoretical foundations guiding the work of Sprüche, sentences of Vogelweides political and the Parzifal by Eschenbach were key to the understanding of the political positioning facing German cultural transformations affecting Christianity during the late twelfth century to the early thirteenth century. This period was marked by the confrontation among Popes and Emperors for the right of authority in the Holy Roman Empire. The Crusader movement, the urban renaissance and the rise of new bourgeois social actors integrate the group of elements to be taken into account in preparing the thesis. The head topic of the work made necessary resorting into literary works to elucidate questions of historical nature, having clear that literature is not a counterpoint to history and that the resulting text will help reconsider the political production of medieval culture and a better understanding of the mechanisms of power in medieval Germany. In theoretical and methodological fields we resorted to the so called Cultural History providing an integrated view of the political, social and economic areas.

Barreiro González, María Soliña 23 May 2011 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the modern temporality through the 20’s European avant-garde cinema. This cinema picks up all the temporalities that have been rejected by the Illustrated idea of time as linear and progressive. As a consequence, this cinema systematically defies the Illustrated discursive construction and the historical comprehension that it elaborated during the Interwars period. Avant-garde cinema was a privileged means to study the modern time experience because it is a complex compendium of times and discontinuities. At the same time, the temporality is a key element to define and study the cinematographic avant-garde. This cinema is characterized by the exploration of movement, the experiments with the image, its lack of interest in narrativity and its interest on the real. It also proposes a subversion of the filmic field (and sometimes, also the social field). Avant-garde filmmakers did not construct an alternative temporal discourse but they organized a coherent uprising corpus based on the exploration of those diverse temporalities. They established the image as a method, the deconstruction of the instrumental rationalization of the visual dominion and they proposed that a new type of history and image emanates from the coexistence of the variety of temporal discourses.

The compositional nature and performance practice of the Grave of Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata in C, BWV 564

Ahlman, Christopher Stephen 01 August 2011 (has links)
The compositional peculiarities of the Grave of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Toccata in C, BWV 564 make authoritative performance practice of the same quite difficult. Often, disparate solutions concerning the performance practice thereof, primarily those that concern registration and interpretation of the work, result. Upon discussing the resemblance of BWV 564 in its entirety with that of the genre of the Italian concerto, I assess the precise nature of Italian concerto influence upon the work, assigning primary compositional influence to Tomaso Albinoni, specifically via Johann Gottfried Walther’s transcription of Concerto IV of Albinoni’s Concerto a cinque, Op. 2 of 1700, effectively placing such influence prior to Bach’s c. 1713-1714 encounter with the concerted works of Antonio Vivaldi and thus assigning Bach’s composition of the work to his initial years as court organist and chamber musician at the Weimar ducal chapel. I also assess the resemblance of the sectional character of BWV 564 with that of the early Baroque multisectional Praeludium, exemplified in Dieterich Buxtehude’s Praeludium in A, BuxWV 151, ultimately to assert the rhetorical orientation of BWV 564 and to raise the registration implications thereof. Given the numerous renovations to the Compenius organ in the Weimar ducal chapel that occurred before, during, and after Bach’s tenure as court organist and chamber musician, I set forth a likely specification set for the Compenius organ of the Weimar ducal chapel during the initial years of Bach’s first appointment at Weimar. With the compositional timeframe and physical conditions reasonably established, and on account of both the accompanimental textures and musical idiomatic allusions present in the movement, I advance not only a one-manual performance practice of the Adagio of BWV 564 in its entirety but also a single general registration scheme resonant with continuo performance practices that were contemporaneous with the composition of the work. / text

Catalogue raisonné de l’oeuvre de Franz Erhard Walther de ses premiers travaux en 1954 à ce jour / A study and catalogue raisonné of the works of Franz Erhard Walther from 1954 to present

Huguet, Charlotte 30 September 2015 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to propose an exhaustive study of the work of the german contemporary artist Franz Erhard Walther (1939, Fulda - ), as well as the catalogue raisonné of his work. There is indeed since many years an imperative need for such a comprehensive catalogue, given the colossal production of Walther. Although his work plays a prominent role in the Art History of the second half of the XXth century, it remains little-known and is still subject of some confusion. This body of work, mainly characterized by the use of sewing as technique and tissue as material, and whose enormity wouldn't have been possible without the collaboration of the artist's first wife, Johanna Frieß, finds its specificity in the concept of Handlung that Walther developed. This study includes thus the first actual catalogue raisonné of Franz Erhard Walter, from his first-ever works of 1954 until now, as well as a specific study of every group of works, putting it in the context of Art History.
