La différence des stratégies ou la différence de l'axiologie : une exploration de la pensée de François Jullien / The difference of strategies or the difference of axiology : an exploration of the thoughts of François JullienZhao, Ming 28 September 2012 (has links)
This thesis aims to study the thoughts of François Jullien in sinology. Our research focused on his theory of detour in the application of two main areas, moral and temporal domains (including the notions of efficiency, creation and transformation, morality) and the poetic field (including the aesthetics area and linguistic area). What we intend to present, through the thought of François Jullien, is that our chosen strategies are inevitably influenced by an important concept, the axiology as a presupposition. This idea is not sufficiently developed by François Jullien in his works. In order to elucidate the relationship between cultural phenomena and values, we used lots of examples, either historical, literary or social, to complete the thoughts of François Jullien; secondly, despite the praise that François Jullien has given to Chinese way of thinking, we can change a point of vue and reconsider its advantages and shortcomings ; thirdly, based on the ancient times of China, the thoughts of François Jullien in Chinese way of thinking may not help the Westerners to understand China’s new develeppment.

The Utilization of Teleconferencing by Community Colleges in Faculty and Staff Development PresentationsMaples, Alan (Alan Royce) 08 1900 (has links)
Members of the Instructional Teleconference Consortium (ITC) were mailed a survey instrument. A total list of 375 teleconference coordinators generated 137 usable responses. The purposes of this study of faculty and staff development presentations by teleconferencing were to determine the amount of usage; which subject areas are utilized; what delivery methods (live, interactive, prerecorded, multimedia, etc.) are utilized; barriers (size or location of college, size of teleconference or travel budget, etc.) to implementing teleconferences; and the sources of presentations utilized in teleconferences. Larger community colleges are the greater users of teleconferencing and even produce some for distribution to other community colleges, whereas smaller community colleges have just begun to receive equipment that enables them to receive telecasts for this purpose. No clear subject area has yet been defined that dominates these teleconferences, and the trend is toward two-way audio and one-way video as the delivery media as communication costs decline. Barriers of money for staff, equipment, and programming appear to be the principal objections to the use of teleconferencing for faculty and staff development presentations. There appear to be few sources of presentations except for the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

Equitable Early Childhood Education for Young Bilingual Learners in North Texas: Examining Kindergarten Entry Assessments for Bilingual ChildrenMcEntire, Celina Angelica 05 1900 (has links)
A considerable amount of research has been done surrounding education in classrooms from kindergarten to Grade 12, but little research has been done surrounding early childhood education (ECE) beginning with birth to age 4. As a result, research is needed that examines interventions aimed to improve the quality of early childhood education for young bilingual learners at the earliest stages of schooling. The present study examines current efforts to serve the specific population of young bilingual children entering classrooms in an urban school district in North Texas. The focus of this study includes the access and examination of quality ECE programs (defined by the extent to which bilingual children have access to bilingual education programming). The present study also observes the visibility of young bilingual children who receive services that are responsive to their characteristics, experiences, and specific needs. Lastly, this study used a multiple regression analysis to examine the Kindergarten Early Assessment test that has been put in place to measure the school readiness performance of bilingual children in this urban district. Specifically, the analysis included program type, language of assessment, socio-economic status and gender variables.

The way-finding journey within a large public building : a user centred study of the holistic way-finding experience across a range of visual abilityMcIntyre, Lesley January 2011 (has links)
This PhD Thesis has been immersed in investigating the holistic experience of way-finding in buildings by people who have a range of visual ability. Previous research studies, spanning across a broad spectrum of disciplines, have focused on various characteristics of human way-finding (Arthur and Passini, 1992;Lynch, 1960;Downs and Stea, 1973). It is specifically recognised that the built environment is failing people with visual loss (Barker et al., 1995) and the strategic task and skill of way-finding within a building is a particular problem (Arthur and Passini, 1992). Under the social model of disability (Oliver, 1990) this is recognised as a form of architectural disablement (Goldsmith, 1997). There are few evidence-based studies of way-finding in a building. Furthermore, there are no studies of real-life experiences of way-finding undertaken by real-life participants who have a range of visual ability within the context of a real-life building. This leads to a research question: What are the design issues revealed by participants who have a range of visual ability as they way-find in a large public building? This doctoral research, based within the discipline of architecture, focuses on the holistic experiential components of a Journey (Myerson, 2001;Harper and Green, 2000). It coins and defines the term Way-finding Hot-spot as it explores the events [positive and negative] which are experienced and therefore impact on a Way-finding Journey around a building. To fill an important gap in the current knowledge a research enquiry, based on a user-centred design approach, was implemented. Exploratory in nature, the methodology was inductive and it evolved throughout the study. A series of Research Principles, borrowed from the established methodologies of Grounded Theory (Glaser, 1968) and Case Study (Yin, 2003a;Yin, 2003b), guided this study. Ten participants [with varying degrees of visual ability, different ages and other forms of disability] undertook a Way-finding Scenario designed to evaluate both existing memories of way-finding and present way-finding experience. This was composed of a Purposeful Conversation (Burgess, 1982) and a context specific Way-finding Task. The study has produced a large amount of data based on user experience in a real-world way-finding context – this has not been done before. Participant data contributed to a new Theory of Way-finding – The Experiential Charting of a Way-finding Journey – which derived from experiential data, was found to be composed of three elements: Journey Stages, Tasks Components and Communication Requirements. This thesis presents detailed findings which generate dialogue in the design of way-finding systems suitable for a diverse range of way-finders. It provides a research-based foundation to open the problem area and provide an insight into the issues people with different visual abilities encounter as they undertake a Way-finding Journey around a building. It generates a greater understanding of the problems and joys of way-finding in a building which will be of use in professional practice across disciplines of architecture and design as well as in areas of rehabilitation, policy-making and academia. This research is a start, but it is not the end. Future research questions have been revealed and these, combined with further reviews of literature and creative use of method, will further explore the phenomenon of way-finding within the context of buildings.

Previous issue date: 2017-03-13 / This thesis aims to understand the context and the articulations related to the consumption of
model images of a lifestyle pattern – named as American way of life –, through the
dissemination of mass communication, in particular, of North American cinema in the 1950‟s.
Such mediatization of images made sense to viewers and adhered to the common sense of
United States citizens. However, in parallel with the pedagogical action of the diffusion of
said model, contradictions and contextual factors that did not conform to pattern and which
continued to be presented in that society – as well as in the films – have dialogued with
diverse portions of the population and have generated verisimilitude to the referenced
displayed on the screen. In this way, after the film analysis of production launched in the
aforementioned decade, this project will have a responsibility to understand the process, the
elements, the strategies and the plural representations implemented by film industry in order
to include in the films features of the model and non-model – after all, making sense is a way
of working on the order to of customer loyalty. The research carried out through the
contemporaneousness of the theme is justified, since a significant part of the cultural and
media production of the United States in the 20th century crossed frontiers and reached the
world, taking with it the image of a country and of exemplary citizens whose form of living
should be a reference – as it still is in certain instances.

Cinema, ideologia e representação: (neo) conservadorismo, resistências, e belicismo nos Estados Unidos (1980-1990) / Cinema, ideology and representation: (neo) conservatism, resistances and warmongering in the United States (1980-1990)Michel Gomes da Rocha 09 September 2015 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the US political context and the representation of the citizenship between the 1980s and 1990s. Kreditní riziko protistrany a oceňování úrokových derivátů / Counterparty Credit Risk and Interest Rate Derivatives PricingČerný, Jakub January 2015 (has links)
Counterparty Credit Risk and Interest Rate Derivatives Pricing Jakub Černý Abstract: This thesis deals with the pricing of OTC financial derivatives including the coun- terparty credit risk (CCR). It focuses on the interest rate derivatives for which the interest rate must be modeled as random. This is where they differ from the pricing of other derivatives. The credit valuation adjustment (CVA) concept is used to calculate CCR which is in line with current banking regulation Basel III. When we assume the independence of the underlying asset and the credit quality of the counterparty, we obtain an analytical expression of CVA. However, if the independence is violated, the CVA calculation becomes quite complicated. Specifically, the CVA of the inter- est rate swap (IRS) is calculated mainly using the simulation approach which is time and computationally consuming. Therefore, we bring two new methods for IRS CVA calculation where the CVA is expressed in a semi-analytical form. These methods use copula functions, particularly the Gaussian copula and the upper Fréchet bound, and we compare them numerically with a complex simulation study. Furthermore, we pro- pose a method of calibration of the correlation coefficient and we determine the impact of changes in the intensity of default on the final CVA with four...
