Flexible Work Schedules, Virtual Work Programs, and Employee Productivity

Campbell, Kelley Marie 01 January 2015 (has links)
In a workplace marked by increasing change and competing commitments, business leaders require an increased understanding of alternative work programs. Utilizing spillover theory, motivator-hygiene theory, and adaptive structuration theory, this single case study was an exploration of the strategies that business leaders use for flexible work schedules and virtual work programs. The population consisted of 3 managerial business executives and 6 employees within a midwestern United States division of a global blood management solutions firm. The data collection process included a series of semistructured interviews, a focus group, and the assessment of company documentation. Methodological triangulation identified 5 emerging themes: program assessment and monitoring, standard set of virtual working hours, remote office setup, increased virtual communication, and promotion of quality of life. The transferability of this single case study remains with the reader and future researchers to determine. Future researchers may discover that the findings contribute to social change by better preparing organizations for success while simultaneously positioning individuals to attain optimum balance across life and work responsibilities.

The detached Work Program of the Boys Club of Vancouver : an analysis of the detached work program, its initiation and progress from May 1964 - September 1967

Mclean, Alan January 1967 (has links)
The purpose of the study was: 1) To describe the similarities and differences in aims of detached work approaches between Vancouver and other major North American centres. 2) To analyze the attempted fulfillment of the goals of the detached work program of the Boys Clubs of Vancouver. 3) To suggest the formulation of data gathering tools that would provide the Boys Clubs of Vancouver with more accurate and researchable information for future inquiries. Questionnaires were formulated for: 1) The organization administrators in the areas where detached work was initiated 2) The youths with whom the detached worker made contact. 3) Data was provided by the Boys Club describing the pre- and post-orientation program which they offered to their line detached workers. A third set of data regarding line worker perceptions of their training and role was obtained by us in February 1967 using the same tool as the. Boys Club for their documentation. We used the above data tools to attempt to determine the following: 1) The influence of the detached worker on delinquency rates, family situations educational factors, peer group and.authority relationships and leisure time activities. 2) The amount of neighbourhood organization involvement in the detached work program. 3) The workers perception of their role and any discrepancies from the prescribed role formulated by the sponsoring agency. Provisional findings are as follows: 1) More youths increased their delinquent activities than decreased their delin- quent activities while associating with the detached worker. 2) No work was done with the families of the involved teens. 3) Patterns of leisure-time activities were significantly influenced by the detached worker's presence. 4) The number of referrals that agencies stated they wanted from the detached work program was significantly higher (50% yes 25% no) than actually handled (6% yes 75% no). There was a similar trend in the number of referrals wanted and handled by the detached work program (36% wanted referrals 19% actual referrals). 5) 50% of the organizations contacted stated they could take a more active role in the detached work program largely in the area of use of facilities. 6) Observations and conclusions in the area of the workers' perception of his role (#3 page 2) were totally subjective and largely without statistical reliability. / Arts, Faculty of / Social Work, School of / Graduate

Efectos de un programa que utiliza la música como herramienta para reducir el estrés laboral / Effects of a program that uses music as a tool to reduce work stress

Chávez Rosas, María Fe Yolanda, Manco Arias , Lady Dennise 05 July 2020 (has links)
The objective of the present investigation is to be able to determine the effects of an intervention program through music as a tool to reduce stress within an organization. This is inevitable but also positive, when one considers the urgency imposed upon us by society (through the laws of supply, demand and service), and competition (survival of the fittest, i.e., those who constantly renew their competitive edges). Professionals, who work in this area, end up spending more time in their work than any other areas of their lives. Many corporations, in an effort to counteract the negative impact of this unbalance, have developed programs to improve the Quality of Life at Work (QLW). However it is still clear there is a deficiency in both its disbursement amongst employees as well as in the implementation of its actions (concentrating on the geographic location that affects the closest population). This thesis concentrates its focus on the worker s perspective as it relates to the real impact of these programs in the promotion of QLW. This research was accomplished studying several branches of the same banking institution that were outside of the main operation area of the QLW program in the organization (the capital of São Paulo). The findings obtained by this sample group reinforce the fact already known regarding the low performance of the program in this venue due to the problems previously mentioned. Distance and misinformation compromised the credibility of the program, leaving the employees themselves to bear the majority of the responsibility for promoting QLW.

Part Four describes voluntary activities as a social phenomenon. Subparts are focused on the attitude of society towards voluntary work, the myths associated with it, as well as the volunteer work motivation. In part Five, I was trying to grasp volunteering as a tool of leisure time pedagogy. The subparts combine my findings acquired from books and my own practical experience. Part Six is an analysis of a specific case of ?Pět P? programme practice. Part Seven - the final one - includes a small scale empirical research.

HOW CAN A SYSTEM WITH NO PUBLIC EXAMS BE FAIR?

Thomas, Kerry J 11 May 2012 (has links) (PDF)
For 25 years, I have worked in a high school education system, where for the final 2 years of schooling, teachers at each school write their own programs of work and write their own assessment items. They then mark and report on this assessment. There are no final public statewide exams, and as an outcome students right throughout the State are ranked for University entry. What follows is an exploration into the procedures that are put in place to ensure that each and every student is treated fairly and equitably. I will discuss the various levels of moderation that take place between schools, the processes that aid in keeping a level playing field for all concerned.
