Papi-Mariátegui, Rafaella January 2017 (has links)

Orientador: Nelson Filice de Barros / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-22T03:01:02Z (GMT). Desse modo, torna se evidente que, em futuros estudos, é importante considerar metodologias mais adequadas que explorem tal relação / Abstract: Chronic diseases have long-lasting, slow progression and are among the main causes of mortality. Therapies based exclusively on drugs for the treatment of these diseases have not been successful and, therefore, the World Health Organization proposed the introduction of innovations in care that go beyond the biomedical model. In Brazil, yoga and other body practices were introduced in the public health system through the 719 Ordinance of April 7, 2011, with the creation of the "academy of health program", by the ministry of health. The expansion of the use of yoga as therapeutic practice led to the growth of researches on the topic. The aim of this study was to systematically review the scientific literature on the application of yoga in the care of people with cancer and diabetes. The searches were conducted in the databases "PubMed", "Embase", "Web of Science" and "Ebsco Host" for the period of twenty years (1991 to 2011), using the keywords "yoga and cancer" and "yoga and diabetes ". Were analyzed 36 and 22 articles respectively regarding cancer and diabetes by country of research development, periodicals publishing, traditions and yoga techniques employed, objects of studies, results and conclusions obtained by them. Papers analyzed indicated that yoga is a therapeutic resource feasible and favorable to the care of people with cancer and diabetes. It is possible check advance of research in the area, although there are few studies that deepen the conceptual and philosophical form on the relationship of yoga in the cancer and diabetics patients care. Thus, it becomes apparent that, in future studies, it is important to consider the most appropriate methodologies that exploit this relationship / Mestrado / Ciências Sociais em Saúde / Mestra em Saúde Coletiva

Bueno, Lucimar Soares. January 2015 (has links)
A mobilidade foi avaliada pelo teste Timed and Up and Go (TUG). With the increasing elderly population in Brazil, we can also notice an increase in life expectancy and attention to assisting them more specifically to aging, which is characterized by reductions in body functions generating a postural imbalance and falls. From this there are studies showing that video games, specifically the Nintendo Wii due conduct a physical interaction between players performing body movements accompanying the image on the screen, can contribute to an improvement of the physical posture of older people and thus improve balance . Another way that aims to promote prevention of falls is the Yoga, an ancient technique that aims to provide its supporters physical balance, mental and spiritual, and can also interfere with postural balance. The aim of the study was to observe the results with the training games and Yoga in the balance of fallers. They evaluated 20 elderly patients with a history of falls, which carried out the training for four months divided into Group Yoga, consisting of 10 elderly, who carried out the practice by a professional 1 to week lasting 1 hour and Wii Group, made up of 10 elderly which relizou practice two times a week, lasting 30 minutes each session. Mobility was evaluated by the test and Timed Up and Go (TUG). Fear of falling was assessed by the FES-I. Appropriate statistical tests were adopted to compare inter- and intra-group before and after training, with p ≤0,05. After the data collection was observed that the Nintendo Wii has had a greater effect in relation to Yoga balance Question and fear of falling, but in the subjective sphere as improved sleep, greater willingness for daily activities, reducing depression, the two techniques have heightened positive effect / Mestre

EXPLORING CHILDREN’S PERSPECTIVES AND EXPERIENCES: THE INFLUENCE OF YOGA ON THEIR WELL-BEING AND EVERYDAY LIVES

Rahmayani, Hestu Wahyu January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to explore children’s experiences of yoga and its influence on their well-being and everyday lives. The study uses qualitative methods and thematic analysis is chosen as it provides flexibility to combine theoretical assumptions with qualitative data. Analysis is based on two focus group interviews that ask about children’s views of yoga, experience of doing yoga, feelings about yoga, any differences with other physical activities, and their experience before and after yoga. The children involved in the study appeared to experience yoga in different ways, but the majority of them agreed that yoga is a positive influence on their lives. The results of this study propose that according to children’s perspectives the practice of yoga supports physical fitness and is a calm, peaceful and relaxing activity and supports the children’s understanding of their capacity and competence and helped them to reduce unstable or negative emotions. Overall, children’s perspective of yoga shows the meaning of their view and experience both in the studio and in everyday life that will give some insights to yoga teachers and studio owners; and yoga practice might contribute to social support for children both physically and mentally.

Effectiveness of Yoga Therapy on Pain and Related Depression, Anxiety, Perceived Stress, and Quality of Life

Romani, Karen 01 January 2019 (has links)
Individuals are becoming more dependent on medication for conditions such as chronic-pain, anxiety, and depression. It is reported that patients are often overprescribed medication while health outcomes do not improve. The medicalization of society is distracting attention from the possibility of other therapies such as complementary or alternative medicine (CAMs) that can improve health outcomes if they were as supported as pharmacological research and better received by the medical community. Yoga and meditation, the components of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and yoga therapy, have been shown as effective CAMs for cases of anxiety and depression related to chronic illness or chronic pain. There is little agreement in research, among yoga practitioners, and in the medical community on how to prescribe the delivery of yoga therapy interventions to reduce pain, depression, or anxiety. The purpose of this quantitative study and, to address this gap in the literature, is to provide the medical community protocols for the delivery of yoga therapy and to discover a “dose response” for yoga therapy among 6 individuals suffering pain and related affective disorders such as anxiety and depression. The findings of this study showed no significant difference among individuals who practice yoga therapy at the rate of one or three times per week on reported levels of depression, anxiety, pain, perceived stress or quality of life depending on the rate of practice. This study could impact the over-prescription of medication and reduce the dependence on psychopharmacology for management of affective disorders

Švrčková, Karolína January 2019 (has links)
Author: Bc. Karolína Švrčková Title: Physiotherapy of children with lung disease Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to create a targeted therapeutic program for school- age children diagnosed with bronchial asthma and to evaluate the change of the examined parameters (FEV1, dyspnoea, muscle imbalance, resting breathing wave, diaphragm test, five-minute running test with a focus on post-exercise dyspnoea, viscerovertebral manifestations) after four weeks of movement in two groups (one focused on respiratory physiotherapy, the other on respiratory physiotherapy enriched with yoga exercise), both diagnosed with bronchial asthma. Methods: This work is a pilot experimental study. Two groups of probands (test and control, each with eight probands) were created. The test group underwent respiratory physiotherapy and yoga exercise specifically designed for diagnosis bronchial asthma. The control group underwent only respiratory physiotherapy. Both groups had an intervention of four weeks. In both groups, FEV1 and Investigation Protocol - focusing on viscerovertebral manifestations, muscle imbalance, resting respiratory wave, five- minute running test (focusing on any manifestation of dyspnoea that would end the test, or after the test dyspnoea) and manifestations of dyspnoea (dyspnea in two previous...

Efektivita vybraných nekonvenčních rehabilitačních postupů u pacientů s poruchou autistického spektra / The effectiveness of chosen unconventional rehabilitation methods in Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Ikonomi, Krist January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the science' state of unconventional physical therapies, such as yoga therapy (YT) and equine-assisted therapy (EAT), in the treatment of the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children and young adolescents. The aim of this systematic review is to highlight the effects of unconventional physiotherapy in autism. Data from 12 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were retrieved and analyzed to help with the making of this review. Physical, cognitive and social functions were measured in approximately 530 children and adolescents with autism, always partaking in either case or control group. Results indicate that the above mentioned therapies have an overall positive impact in the treatment of autism by reducing the stereotypical behaviors and increasing the cognitive and social functions. Participants vary from 4 to 16 years of age. There is still a gap of knowledge when it comes to all the direct effects and action mechanisms of such therapies in the lives of these children. Therefore a lot of space for further studies is present and also recommended. Future RCTs are needed to better refine treatment choices, in order to come up with new and better ways of dealing with such disorder. Keywords: physiotherapy; yoga therapy; horse riding therapy;...

Lágin - A writer’s retreat in the Icelandic countryside

Friðriksson, Þórbergur January 2022 (has links)
Lágin (pron. laoyin)  is an old Icelandic word I came across in my great grandfather’s writings. Lágin translates to a dip in the landscape but in regards to my project, Lágin is the name of a writers retreat I've designed by the farmstead Hali in Suðursveit, Iceland. The retreat partly builds on the legacy and philosophy of my great grandfather, Þórbergur Þórðarson. Born in 1888 and died in 1974, he is one of Iceland’s most beloved authors and poets. In addition to that source material, I reference the unique architectural heritage of Iceland for much of the project’s atmosphere, material pallette and architectural logic. Lágin allows for 10 guests while housing a staff of two. One staff member to organize the operation and lead the guests in their yoga, meditation and exercise rituals. The other staff member tends to the retreats’ vegetable garden, cooks meals and handles general daily functions. An established resident writer will periodically stay at Sléttaleiti, a nearby house owned by the Writers’ Union of Iceland. That writer will come by Lágin for organized meet ups with the guests to guide and progress on their work through private conversation.
