Previous issue date: 2015-03-18 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / This text aims to present a particular reading of Matter and Memory, one of the leading books of Henri Bergson's work. It follows the route of Bergson's answer to the problem of duality of soul and body, spirit and matter, seeking to define the key points of a bergsonian theory of the soul. Therefore, the reading that follows here is limited to give special attention to the psychological issues of the book, opening up gradually, and as necessary, to metaphysics involved in these issues. Three main points of Matter and Memory will be analyzed to reveal the Bergsonian psychology of levels of consciousness and the dynamic process of the soul: the theory of pure perception, the circuit of attention and the figure of cône mobile. As will be seen, these points represent a gradual movement searching to define the true nature of the body's relationship with the spirit, and reflect a redefinition of the roles of the body and also the memory. Defined, finally, the role of effort as the inherent process in the body's relationship with the psychic, this work is concluded at the exact point where the soul and the duration appear as inextricably linked, taking the same nature. At this point this text closes, just to open the doors for metaphysics. / O presente texto procura apresentar uma leitura particular de Matéria e memória, um dos principais livros da obra do filósofo Henri Bergson. Ele acompanha o percurso da resposta bergsoniana para o problema da dualidade da alma e do corpo, do espírito e da matéria, buscando definir os pontos-chave de uma teoria bergsoniana da alma. Para tanto, a leitura que aqui se segue limita-se a dar atenção especial para as questões psicológicas do livro, abrindo-se aos poucos e na medida do necessário à metafísica envolvida nessas questões. Três pontos principais de Matéria e memória serão devidamente analisados para revelarem a psicologia bergsoniana dos níveis de consciência e o processo dinâmico da alma: a teoria da percepção pura, o circuito da atenção e a figura do cône mobile. Como será visto, esses pontos representam um movimento gradual na busca pela definição da verdadeira natureza da relação do corpo com o espírito, e refletem uma redefinição, tanto do papel do corpo quanto da memória. Definido, por fim, o papel do esforço como processo inerente à relação do corpo com o psíquico, este trabalho se conclui no exato ponto em que a alma e a duração aparecem como intimamente ligadas, de modo a assumirem uma mesma natureza. Neste ponto este texto se fecha, exatamente ao abrir as portas para a metafísica.
