Framställning av innebandyspelande män och kvinnor i svensk media / The representation of male and female floorball players in Swedish media

Sports could be considered the biggest entertainment industry of our time. In regards to social structures, sports act as a mirror to our society. When society is unequal, and structural differences exist in the sport, the sector mimics that. The media is a big factor in how men and women are framed in society. This study aims to analyze how female and male floorball players are portrayed in the Swedish media, with the following research questions: How much space is given to women and men inthe media? What differences and similarities are there in the way women and men are framed? Are there any differences between the media forms? This was done by using content analysis to analyze 159 posts from Instagram and 83 articles from online-newspapers, Sportbladet and Expressen Sport, witha focus on their images, captions, and texts. When this was done, the study was meant to determine how the media is framing men and women in different situations, how the genders are described andwhat emotions they express. The outcome of this study was that in three out of five medias, the majority of reports were about men. Men and women can also be considered to have typical gender characteristics. Same of the differences can be attributed to the media not giving men and women equal space and in same cases, objectifying women.
