L'Architettura religiosa di Luis Moya Blanco. La costruzione come principio compositivo / The religious architecture by Luis Moya Blanco. Construction as a compositional principle

Fantini, Agnese <1982> 03 June 2013 (has links)
This research, entitled L’architettura religiosa di Luis Moya Blanco. La costruzione come principio compositivo, is about the building of places of Christian worship the Spanish architect has designed and built from 1945 to 1970. The dissertation aims at identifying those principles pervading all the architectural composition which seem to be constant throughout the architect’s activity. The research starts from analysing his education and writings, and focuses on the latest church projects, especially the ones the critics have not dealt with in depth so far. The objective of the research is thus to gie a new contribution to the compositional aspect of his architecture. Still, analysing composition in Moya means analysing the construction that, despite the succession of different languages, remains the most important aspect in his work. The study of the manufacture through the categories taken from his own writings – such as mathematics, number, geometry, planning schemes – allows to find connections and continuity between the first churches, strongly characterised by a baroque structure, and the most recent projects, which seem to meet marked modern shapes. Such reflections, contextualized in his considerable essay output, bring to the conclusion that construction becomes, in Moya’s view, a composition principle that cannot be set aside, the rule that puts number and geometry into substance. If construction means petrifaction of geometric and mathematical rules implying planning schemes, the use of the space of central origin does not answer the purpose of improving liturgy, but it is suggested by philosophical and idealistic issues: the supreme naturalness of divine perfection matches the supreme perfection of the circular shape – or, in some cases, of one of its offshoots, the ellipse.

Aspetti dell'architettura religiosa a Trento: il caso della basilica di S. Maria Maggiore / Architectural features of religious buildings in Trento: the S. Maria Maggiore case

Zanfini, Massimo <1975> 09 September 2013 (has links)
The excavation of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Trento allowed us to bring to light previous archaeological structures until the I B.C.. This thesis analized the structures that can be referred to the previous churches, the first built in the second half of the 5th century. The data has been studied in order to understand how the first monumental christian buildings were built in Trento, and the methods of the interaction between the christian community and the constituted authority.

What Intolerance of Uncertainty and Intolerance of Ambiguity Look like: A Construct Validation of Two Transdiagnostic Factors and Their Differential Relationship with Checking Symptoms

Unknown Date (has links)
A growing body of literature has begun to examine the transdiagnostic qualities of a variety of etiological and maintaining factors. Research suggests that intolerance of uncertainty (IU) is one such transdiagnostic factor that has been examined in various disorders including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder, as well as other internalizing pathology. A similar construct, intolerance of ambiguity (IA), has also been identified as a potential transdiagnostic factor. To date, IA has not been examined as extensively in clinical research, and while a theoretical distinction between the IA and IU has been made, it has yet to be examined in depth. Research suggests that uncertainty refers to future focused unknown elements while ambiguity relates to present oriented unknown. The present study sought to investigate this time-oriented distinction between IU and IA by examining the role of these constructs in checking behaviors. A student sample (N = 111) was recruited. Following completion of a questionnaire battery assessing OC symptoms, IU, and IA, participants completed a modified eye tracking task that had previously been associated with checking behaviors. This task included three periods; in the first period participants encoded the locations of letters in a grid, followed by the second period of a delay, culminating in a probe in which participants were asked whether or not a letter had appeared in the encoding grid (misleading vs. resolvable trials). This eye tracking task allowed for distinct blocks of trials, in which participants received the same amount of information in order to complete a trial. However, in the second block participants had the potential for future threat (a noise blast) if they responded to trials incorrectly. The difference in blocks provided a manipulation for the time-orientation of the unknown. Results indicated that in an unselected sample and when examined continuously, checking symptoms and intolerance of uncertainty were not significantly associated with most outcome measures from the eye tracking task. Higher intolerance of ambiguity was associated with more fixations and shorter duration of fixations during the encoding period. Limitations and future directions are discussed. / A Dissertation submitted to the Department of Psychology in partial fulfillment of the Doctor of Philosophy. / Summer Semester 2016. / June 13, 2016. / Intolerance of ambiguity, Intolerance of uncertainty, Obsessive-compulsive disorder / Includes bibliographical references. / Jesse R. Bazotesty a lymfocytární transformační testy s vazbou na lékové intolerance / Bazotests and lymphocyte transformation tests linked to drug intolerance

Honsárková, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biological and Medical Science Candidate: Bc. Tereza Honsárková Supervisor: prim. MUDr. Inrena Krčmová, CSc. Title of diploma thesis: Bazotests and lymphocyte transformation tests linked to drug intolerance Basophil activation tests and lymphocyte transformation tests are methods that allow drug allergy diagnosis. The right diagnosis is crucial for treatment. Drug allergy is often associated with β-lactam antibiotics hypersensitivity and especially with penicillins. The aim of this diploma thesis is to provide actual statistics based on selected patient medical reports. Those patients were completely clinically and laboratory examined. The main condition for data selection was the execution of skin tests for suspicion of drug allergy caused by penicillin-like antibiotics at the Institute of Clinical Immunology and Allergology of the Faculty Hospital Hradec Králové in 2017. Patients' anamnesis, skin tests and laboratory examination focused on basophil activation tests and lymphocyte transformation was composed. Statistics of 25 patients shows beneficial informations. Delayed manifestations are the most prevalent (63 %) in patients which is interesting. However the patients with positive skin test on major determinant had acute...

Tolerating on Faith: Locke, Williams, and the Origins of Political Toleration

Yeates, Owen Dennis 03 May 2007 (has links)
Toleration is a core liberal ideal, but it is not an ideal without limits. To tolerate the intolerant would be to violate the principles and purposes underlying liberal societies. This important exception to the liberal ideal of toleration is dangerous, however, in that we may make it too exclusionary in practice. That is, we may mistakenly apply it to peaceful, beneficial members of our communities as well as to the truly intolerant. In particular, some contemporary liberals see religion either as inherently intolerant and dangerous or as violating standards of public discourse that they feel are necessary to uphold liberalism's core ideals, including toleration. This work argues that we risk violating the liberal ideal of toleration in a hasty over-generalization about religious belief. Through an examination of the arguments of Roger Williams and John Locke, this work argues that religious belief can be compatible with toleration, and that the practice and popular value of liberal toleration has at least in part a religious origin. These authors, and believers like them, defended toleration, partially as a result of their own experiences of intolerance, but also because they saw toleration as a theological necessity. Thus, this work shows that we have misunderstood the relationship between religion and toleration. While some forms of religious belief may incite intolerance and violence, others provide a firm foundation for toleration. We must show care in distinguishing the two to avoid violating the fundamental liberal ideal of toleration. Moreover, it is important that we do so to foster civil comity and cooperation, as well as to sustain the other benefits that religious groups provide to liberal, democratic societies.

ECUMENISMO E DIÁLOGO INTER-RELIGIOSO / Ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue.

We cannot, however, attribute the fracturation among Christ believers to the historical circumstances, for Christianity had internal problems since the very beginning. We choose to approach the issue since the end of the first century, when all kinds of conflicts began to spread, that would eventually cause the scissions that fractured the unity of the Christian faith, and the consequences of that, to this day. We tried to observe the tread of the ecumenical walk, trough the light of the baptism sacrament, and therefore we investigate the meander that involves the baptismal sacrament starting on its theological-biblical principles; the distinction between baptism in other cultures and the religious meaning of water in paganism and Judaism; the sacrament of baptism and different baptismal events that happened throughout the Christian history. When analysing baptism s theological-biblical principles that per passed its historical walk, the progress that happened with the Second Vatican Council; the intense and arduous activity developed by protestant Churches that culminated in innumerous terms, agreements and other formalized instruments aiming a continuous approximation among the different religious confessions, paving the way for our current situation. Discussing the ecumenical dialogue that involves Christian churches and the inter-religious dialogue that happens between various religious traditions of varied faith, it s evident the need of effective actions to the building of global peace. The presence of attempts around a religious dialogue expresses the search of a relationship between Christians and believers of others religions, or religious confessions. However, such gestures were and are marked with negative actions, fraught with intolerance, which only aggravated the spirits, and leading, most of the time, to fratricidal conflicts.

The Structural Politics of Totem and Taboo

Lorne, David 07 1900 (has links)

Freud's Totem and Taboo was one of the more controversial additions to the literature of religious theory. The two major hypotheses of the work are the parallel between ontogenetic and phylogenetic evolution, and the primal horde parricide. The first hypothesis has rarely been taken seriously. The second, although never verified with anthropological evidence, has generated further hypotheses based upon its value as a symbolic representation rather than an actual occurrence. Paul Roazen has suggested that the primal horde parricide hypothesis possesses characteristics similar to those of most social contract theories. He posited, in light of this, that Totem and Taboo ought to be considered a kind of social contract, although it has never been thought of this way.

The major school of philosophical thought which has continued to maintain interest in Totem and Taboo, long after the main anthropological assertions have been dispelled, is the French structuralist movement and its successors. Through the work of Levi-Strauss, carried on with theorists such as Lacan, Bataille, and Derrida, Totem and Taboo has maintained value as important work. The French structuralists have sustained a tradition that began with Rousseau of combining mathematical reasoning and linguistic theory together with anthropological speculation raised in Totem and Taboo. Thus in light of Roazen's hypothesis and the structuralist treatment of Totem and Taboo, together with Bryan Skyrms' s recent work on Rousseau and the mathematics of social contract theory, I posit that Totem and Taboo is comparable to Rousseau's Social Contract, in which human nature, politics, myth and mathematics merge. Implicitly Totem and Taboo contains a novel theory of the political development of society.
/ Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Pharisees Pre-70

Gummer, Judy January 1976 (has links)

In 70 C.E. the Romans razed the Jerusalem Temple 2nd Judaism underwent a radical change. From that moment, normative Judaism was Pharisaic Judaism. As a result, our knowledge of the Pharisees after 70 C.E. is as extensive as our knowledge of the Pharisees before 70 C.E. is limited. When did the Pharisees first arise? What were their beliefs and practices? What role did they play in the growth of early Judaism? These questions have haunted scholars for decades and have given birth to a myriad of diverse theories. It is the purpose of this project to examine five of these hypotheses and then to offer some modest conclusions concerning the future of pre-70 Pharisaic scholarship.
/ Master of Arts (MA)
